j juliano Two suspects in separate homicides in Ottawa are on Canada’s most wanted list issued by The Bolo Program. The list, which has the top 25 wanted fugitives in Canada, was issued Wednesday. Gibriil Bakal, 30, of Edmonton is wanted in connection with the death of an Ottawa man early this year. Jama Roble was shot to death on Jan. 29 at around 1:20 p.m. at a building on Champagne Avenue South in Ottawa remains at large. It was the city's first homicide of the year. Bakal is described as a Black man, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds. He occupies the eighth spot on Canada’s most wanted fugitive list, according to the Bolo Program. Meanwhile, Mohamed Shire, 34, of Toronto , took the 11th spot on the list. The Bolo Program has also announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Shire is facing two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of brothers Abdulaziz Abdullah and Mohamed Abdullah in May 2021 and one charge of attempted murder. The two men were killed in a shooting at the Alta Vista Shopping Centre. Ottawa police have already arrested two people on charges of first-degree murder in connection to the May 2021 shootings - Abdullahi Osman, 29, of Ottawa and Ahmed Siyad of Toronto. According to the Bolo Program website, Shire has multiple connections in the Greater Toronto Area. "Investigators stress that he could be evading arrest anywhere in Canada,” Ottawa police said in April. Ontario Provincial Police say at least one person has been taken to hospital following a serious crash north of Kingston, Ont. Wednesday afternoon. It happened on Sydenham Road, between Eddy Lane and Horning Road in South Frontenac at around 2:30 p.m. Two vehicles were involved. A photo from the scene shows cars in a ditch. "One person had to be extricated from a vehicle. Thankfully no life-threatening injuries, but at least one person was taken to hospital for treatment," OPP said. Sydenham Road is closed between Horning Road and Eddy Lane until the scene is cleared up and the road is deemed safe for driving. The area is under a snow squall warning, with Environment Canada warning of accumulation of up to 15 centimetres and snowfall rates of three to six cm per hour at times, causing poor driving conditions and reduced visibility. OPP are warning drivers to be cautious. "If driving this afternoon, PLEASE slow down. Even if you have snow tires, they can only do so much. It's your job as a driver to adjust to the conditions. Get home safely," police said. Earlier, OPP had reported no serious collisions in eastern Ontario. Most roads were "bare and wet" but snow was starting to accumulate. "If you end up behind a plow or salter, stay there. Road crews are working to make it safe for you. If getting ready to head out, check your washer fluid and top up if needed - because you will need it," OPP said. Washington: US President Joe Biden on Sunday said deposed Syrian leader Bashar Al Assad should be "held accountable" but called the nation's political upheaval a "historic opportunity" for Syrians to rebuild their country. In the first full US reaction to Assad's overthrow by an Islamist-led coalition of rebel factions, Biden expressed optimism. However, he also warned that Washington would "remain vigilant" against the emergence of terrorist groups. "The fall of the regime is a fundamental act of justice," Biden said, speaking from the White House. "It's a moment of historic opportunity for the long-suffering people of Syria." Asked by reporters what should happen to the deposed president, who reportedly has fled to Moscow, Biden said that "Assad should be held accountable." Biden, who is set to step down in January and make way for Republican Donald Trump's return to power, said Washington will assist Syrians in rebuilding. Baltimore born and raised, Hall went on to become the Nazis’ most wanted Allied spy and a decorated World War II operative with medals from the U.S., the UK, and France. “One of my favorite photos of her is her jumping off a barn as a little girl,” says Hannah Saloio , curator of the new Virginia Hall exhibit at the International Spy Museum. “I think that kind of tells her entire story.” The small but detailed exhibit, found in the museum’s Spies and Spymasters gallery on the fifth floor, aims to tell Hall’s story in greater detail. The woman who became known as “the lady who limps” by the Gestapo—due to her prosthetic leg, which she nicknamed “ Cuthbert ”—was working as a clerk for the State Department in Estonia when Germany invaded Poland and launched WWII. From driving an ambulance on the front lines in France to being recruited by the British Special Operations Executive, Hall proved that women could play an equally important role in the war’s reconnaissance, sabotage, and espionage efforts. Indeed, some of her biggest confidants in France, where she was stationed, were nuns, sex workers, and a brothel owner. Now, about all that grumbling ... . Yes, Philly sports fans, media and social media doomsayers are usually the ones with a complaint even in the best of times for the pro teams. Perhaps it’s a bit unsettling around Philadelphia, then, that the grousing after a win over Carolina this weekend came from inside the locker room. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, and even Jalen Hurts, made public their complaints about the state of the (diminishing) passing game, putting the coaching staff on notice that enough was enough and it was time to rev up the engine on a pair of 1,000-yard receivers and get the offense humming headed into the postseason. Even Sirianni conceded that yes, it was fair to raise questions about an offense that allowed Smith and Brown to combine for only eight catches and 80 yards. The problem this week? “Being on the same page,” Smith said. Smith is coming off consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons and has yet to break 100 in a game this season. Brown has four 100-yard games, well off last season’s run when he topped 100 yards in six straight games and seven times overall. Hurts threw for just 108 yards with two TDs passing and one rushing score. Should an offense getting on the same page develop into this much of a concern for the Eagles (11-2) after 13 games? “No. I just say no,” Hurts said. There are reasons the numbers are down. The easy one, of course, is that the traditionally pass-happy Eagles have leaned on Barkley and his team-record 1,623 yards to steer the offense in his first season. Hurts also shoulders his share of the blame given his propensity for holding on to the ball. He was sacked four times and missed Smith and Brown the few times he did chuck the ball deep to open receivers on long routes. Hurts didn’t throw Brown the ball a couple of times when he was open, including on a TD pass to Smith. “Have to find a way to come together and come and sync as a unit and play complementary ball,” Hurts said. Hurts has topped 300 yards passing only once this season and his last three games are at 179-118-108. He does have only five interceptions and has thrown just one during the winning streak. What needs help The offensive woes start at the beginning. The Eagles have yet to score a touchdown on their opening possession through the first 13 games and average only 10.7 points in the first half. They had only 46 total yards in the first quarter. The slow starts are one reason why teams with losing records such as Carolina, Jacksonville and Cleveland are able to keep games close at the Linc and make last-gasp drives at an upset victory. What’s working The running game. That really only means one name: Barkley. Barkley rushed for 124 yards to break the Eagles’ season record, and Eric Dickerson’s NFL mark is in his sights. Barkley needed just 13 games to pass McCoy, who rushed for 1,607 yards in 2013. Barkley also maintained his pace to break Dickerson’s NFL single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards, set in 1984 with the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley is averaging 124.8 yards per game. At that pace and with one more game to play than Dickerson, he would become the top single-season rusher in NFL history. He needs 483 yards over the final four games to top Dickerson’s 40-year-old record. Barkley is one pace for 2,122 yards, just 17 yards beyond Dickerson’s 2,105 total. SNP Finance Secretary Shona Robison last week said there was ‘no reason’ for big tax rises after she raised council funding by £1billion to £15billion in her 2025-26 budget. But Cllr Hagmann said the real terms increase was barely half what councils asked for, as authorities needed to make up for years and years of cuts. In comments that raise the prospect of costly increases, she told BBC Scotland’s Sunday Show that more money than councils got in the Budget was required. She said: ‘It’s fair to say that there’s still going to be difficult decisions that some councils are going to have to make. ‘We asked for an increase of 5 per cent and we have had a real terms increase. However, it’s only 2.6 per cent. So while this is really welcome news, we’re not out of the woods yet.’ The SNP has frozen or capped council tax in all but two of its 17 years in office. When councils had free rein in 2022-23 and 2023-24, the average rises were 3 and 5 per cent. Finance minister Shona Robison delivering the Scottish budget on Wednesday Former first minister Humza Yousaf froze it again this year, but next year councils can set what they like again. Last week, Perth and Kinross Council approved provisional plans for a rise of 10 per cent on bills next year - then 10 per cent and 6 per cent in the years after that. Shetlands Islands Council is also consulting on a hike of up to 10 per cent next year, while Aberdeenshire has asked residents about a possible 20 per cent rise. LONDON, Dec 4 (Reuters) - The French government collapsed on Wednesday after losing a no-confidence vote, thrusting the euro zone's second-largest economy further into political crisis, and threatening its capacity to legislate and repair its precarious finances. This is the first French government to be forced out by a no-confidence vote since 1962. The euro showed little immediate reaction, trading around $1.0517 against the dollar, but dipping against other European currencies, such as the Swiss franc and the pound . French stock and bond futures nudged up modestly. The country's bonds and stocks have come under selling pressure from the escalating crisis in recent days, with the closely-watched gap, or spread, between 10-year French and German bond yields rising to as much as 90 basis points, its widest since the height of the euro zone debt crisis in 2012. Yet, over the months since his loss, I have come to realise the importance of navigating life - especially around holidays - with permission to feel joy. Sitting here with my thoughts, I acknowledge that I am not alone in experiencing this different sort of "First Christmas" - the first as a widow. Grief is not linear, and the holidays can trigger a wide range of feelings, from sadness and anger to longing and even guilt. If you share this story with me, let me tell you that it is important to give yourself permission to feel these emotions without self-judgment. I have contemplated creating new traditions that celebrate my husband's life - and this may be something that helps you, if you are also in this situation. Lighting a candle in his honor appeals to me, sharing stories about him with family is a given, and perhaps setting aside a special time to reflect on the happy moments you shared will no doubt feature. These new rituals will provide a sense of continuity and keep his spirit alive during the holidays, I hope. It is also essential to practice self-care during this season. Grieving takes a toll on both the mind and body, and it is important to be gentle with yourself. Make sure to get enough rest, eat nourishing foods, and engage in activities that bring you comfort. This might mean taking a walk in nature, reading a favourite book, or listening to music that soothes the soul. Self-care is not indulgent; it is a necessary part of healing. I think the hardest part of Christmas will be navigating the different ways that our children are experiencing the journey. Our 16 year-old son will talk about him, laugh about his stories and want to invoke his memory in everything - no need for walking on eggshells. However, our nine-year-old daughter is the opposite. She doesn't want to talk about him because it brings too much sadness, and anything other than an incidental story is likely to be accompanied by a meltdown. Honouring each of our children's grief is challenging to say the least. I think the most important thing to acknowledge is that while it is important to honour your grief, it is equally important to allow yourself moments of joy. This may seem impossible in the face of your loss, but finding pockets of joy can help to lift some of the darkness. It could be as simple as watching a , baking cookies, or listening to a song that brings back happy memories. Give yourself permission to smile, to laugh, and to feel happiness, whether it is fleeting or all-encompassing. Ever organised, with his colour-coded spreadsheets and hyperlinked ideas (be still my beating heart!) my husband will be a part of our Christmas this year in a bittersweet farewell, come what may. He had chosen Christmas gifts for both of our children and shared the ideas with me before he died, so I have purchased the gifts for him for the children as one last gift from their Dad to treasure. I have no idea how to manage it with our little girl - I'm hoping inspiration will strike on the day! I take solace in remembering that healing is not about forgetting your loved one, but about finding a way to move forward while carrying their memory with us - a sentiment I am trying to instil in our daughter. This Christmas, as we navigate this uncharted territory, I will strive to honour my husband's but I will also be seeking moments of joy. To anyone else facing their first Christmas without a loved one, I offer this: Be gentle with yourself, honour your emotions, and know that it is OK to find joy amidst the sorrow.
