GRAND FORKS — Ryan Adams has been named interim dean for UND's College of Engineering and Mines. Adams, a professor and associate dean of national security, has worked for the college for six years, a release says. “I’m grateful to Dr. Adams for his willingness to serve as interim dean for the College of Engineering & Mines,” said UND Provost Eric Link in a statement. “He brings experience, vision and a desire to serve the students, staff and faculty of the College during this time of transition. ADVERTISEMENT “The College of Engineering & Mines has seen tremendous growth in the past few years. Dr. Adams will provide great leadership as the College conducts a national search for its next dean.” Adams will assume his new role on Jan. 2, and will continue until a permanent dean is in place. The position was left vacant in November, when former Dean Brian Tande was selected as the new president of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The College of Engineering and Mines search committee is being chaired by Brad Rundquist, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and will be assisted by Academic Search, an executive search firm. The next permanent dean is expected to be named by or around July 1, the release says. In the meantime, “I am so excited to step into this role at such a dynamic time,” Adams said in a statement. “The college is expanding its collaborations with more of our stakeholders on a variety of initiatives such as the new STEM building, the National Security Initiative, and statewide use of artificial intelligence. “The college’s new research centers continue to expand their activities with increasing numbers of students and partners, and our academic programs are showing strong growth with increased impact. This is a great time for the College of Engineering and Mines.” Adams as served as the associate dean for national security since 2022. In coordination with UND's Division of Research and Economic Development, Adams has helped bolster funding and research in areas related to national security, including funding from the Department of Defense and the Test Resource Management Center, according to the release. He received his Ph.D in electrical engineering at the University of Idaho, and held academic appointments at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte prior to coming to UND as a professor of electrical engineering in 2019. He also served as a program manager and development engineer for the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center. As an active-duty member of the Air Force, he was a program manager with the Space and Missile Systems Center and an aircraft maintenance technician. ADVERTISEMENT

Robinson scores 25 in Mercer's 90-89 OT win against JacksonvilleIn a Nov. 22 decision, the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal ruled that a complaint of discrimination lodged against the Central Okanagan Board of Education will proceed to a hearing. A former student of George Elliot Secondary School in Lake Country, Faith Bigam, , alleging that she had been subject to discrimination by the School District No. 23 Board of Education, her school principal and a teacher. Bigam, who was in Grade 11 at the time of the incident, alleges that she was discriminated against "based on mental and physical disability." Bigam was diagnosed with , at 12 years old. According to the complaint, after years of building confidence, she voiced her desire to speak to the student body at George Elliot about her rare, degenerative condition in order to educate her peers. The complaint alleges that in 2019, a teacher, the school principal and the school district prevented Bigam from speaking at an assembly and then mishandled the aftermath of the situation. Bigam says that as a direct result of the incident, she was not able to return to George Elliot Secondary School. The presentation was scheduled for an upcoming school assembly and Bigam prepared a speech. There is contrasting evidence from Bigam, her mother and the teacher who was named in the complaint, about the incident that took place on the morning of the scheduled speech. According to tribunal documents, on the morning of the assembly, an interaction took place between Bigam, her mother and the teacher in charge of the assembly, that became heated. After a disagreement, it was decided that Bigam would not be present at the assembly. Bigam alleges that "everyone was raising their voices," and she felt embarrassed, panicked and began to cry. In a response to the complaint, the teacher alleges that she was not trying to prevent Bigam from speaking and says she did not raise her voice. She alleges that she was instead trying to work with Bigam to ensure the presentation fit with the theme of the assembly before the emotions escalated. After the incident, Bigam's parents spoke with and sent an email to the principal and the SD23, complaining about the interaction with the teacher regarding their daughter's now cancelled presentation at the assembly. The principal assured the family the matter was being taken "very seriously." Bigam stopped attending school after the incident. The school's vice-principal spoke with the BC Human Rights Tribunal and stated Bigam's mother was "adamant" that the teacher be fired and did not seem interested in an apology or “anything else”. Bigam never returned to George Elliot School, claiming she experienced stress, anxiety and emotional distress as a result of the altercation and graduated from an alternative learning program. Additionally, Bigam suffered a relapse of Multiple Sclerosis in June 2019, which her family alleges was spurred by the stress of the incident. Bigam says she missed out on important social and educational opportunities by not returning to the school. The BC Human Rights Tribunal has dismissed the complaint against both the teacher and principal but allowed the remainder of the complaint against the SD23. We have seen it for four years: President Joe Biden’s administration exists for the sole purpose of hurting ordinary Americans. On Monday, the Biden White House commutations for 37 of the 40 criminals who faced the death penalty following federal convictions, including Brandon Council, a career criminal who murdered two bank tellers, 59-year-old Donna Major and 36-year-old Kathryn Skeen, during a 2017 robbery in South Carolina. Tuesday on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends,” Danny Jenkins, Major’s husband, characterized Biden’s decision as “absolutely disgusting.” Jenkins appeared via video conferencing, along with Major’s daughters, Heather Turner and Katie Jenkins. With a Christmas tree in the background, Major’s three grieving family members spoke with host Todd Piro. “I am upset that this is even happening,” Turner said, “that one man can make this decision without even talking to the victims, without any regard for what we’ve been through, what we’re going through.” “I’m completely hurt, frustrated and angry,” she added. Danny Jenkins noted that his late wife did not receive the same consideration gave to her killer. “She was shown no mercy at all,” the grieving husband said. “This man [Council] walked into the bank, never said two words to her, shot her three times in total, went and shot her co-worker, Katie Skeen, as well, who was totally defenseless and unaware that anything was happening.” “It’s just beyond me that, that, it’s — I can’t even believe that this is actually happening,” he added. Danny Jenkins then rightly accused Biden of carrying out a “political scheme.” Donna Major was gunned down along with Kathryn Skeen in 2017 by Brandon Council during a bank robbery. Joe Biden just commuted Council’s sentence for political reasons. Council’s victims never got mercy. And Biden never discussed his pardon with the families of the victims. — Paul A. Szypula 🇺🇸 (@Bubblebathgirl) In fact, the president made no secret of the commutations’ political aspect. On Tuesday, Democratic Rep. of Massachusetts congratulated Biden for taking a principled stand against capital punishment. As Danny Jenkins noted, however, Biden chose not to commute death sentences for three of the 40 convicted criminals. Those three had all engaged in either terrorism or what the White House statement called “hate-motivated mass murder.” By “hate-motivated mass murder,” the White House meant murderers who target victims based on skin color or another group characteristic. In other words, Biden unilaterally decided which murderers deserved mercy and which did not, and he did so by using the only criterion that matters to race-obsessed leftists. Moreover, every reasonable person must conclude that the president lacks the capacity to make such decisions. “Joe Biden certainly has no convictions,” Danny Jenkins said. “He’s a senile old man. He can’t tie his shoes, I wouldn’t think, if you could see him in person.” Biden, of course, has done this sort of thing in the past. For instance, he insulted the families of the 13 service members killed during his administration’s botched 2021 withdrawal. He also showed far more concern for the who murder American women and girls than he did for the families of those victims. No one should think of these things as accidents. In fact, Biden only occupies the presidency because his toward ordinary Americans reflects that of the broader ruling class. Thus, no one should be surprised that Biden — or more likely, those who have made decisions in Biden’s name for the last four years — would pour salt in grieving family members’ wounds. As he invoked the name of Kobe Bryant, Tatum explained that his hunger for success was not even close to being satisfied. Forbes: "All-NBA, champion, gold medal... specifically on the court, what else do you want to accomplish?" Jayson Tatum: "I want to continue to keep getting better. As a kid, I was very motivated. I set a bunch of goals for myself and I've been blessed in real-time to slowly check off certain boxes that I wanted to accomplish. I want to win MVP one day, I want to win more championships. I want to be the Finals MVP. Those are at the top of the list of things I still want to accomplish." Forbes: "When you consider those and obviously in the past you've spoken about being the face of the NBA. Is that the blueprint to getting there? How do you see yourself achieving that?" Jayson Tatum: "That's an opinion thing because if you ask 10 different people you might get 10 different answers. You put yourself in that conversation and people might see you in that light. How you carry yourself, how you represent yourself in certain situations. And obviously in your style of play. How you connect with the fans, how you dominate the game. Winning championships for sure helps." Forbes: "Speaking of the face of the NBA, you have spoken at length about your relationship with another face: Kobe Bryant. I'm curious, as you go forward, what do you model after him?" Jayson Tatum: "Being relentless. Kobe didn't stop at being satisfied with one championship or two or three, he ended up winning five. And he didn't have any regrets when he left. That's what I admire about him the most, he gave everything he had to the game of basketball." Tatum and the Celtics are only a few months removed from their Finals win over the Mavericks. Tatum was a beast in the series with averages of 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 5 games. While he didn't win Finals MVP ( the honor went to Jaylen Brown ), the Celtics are in a good position to make another Finals trip in this campaign. With Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzinis, the Celtics are the favorites to come out of the East, and they are already 2nd in the standings at 17-4. As a hardcore Kobe Bryant fan , Tatum has always incorporated elements of Kobe's game into his arsenal and that includes his insatiable drive to win. In 20 years in the NBA, Kobe maximized his career as a 5x champion, former MVP, and 18x All-Star. Just like Kobe , Tatum wants to be more than a one-hit wonder. He wants to win multiple titles and win as many awards as he can before his skills start to fade. With one title in the books at 26 years old, he's off to a pretty good start so far but the job is not yet finished. The next game for the Celtics is tomorrow, December 4th, at TD Garen against the Pistons at 7:30 PM EST. They play the Bucks on Friday, December 6th before a matchup against the Grizzlies on December 7th at 8:00 PM EST. This article first appeared on Fadeaway World and was syndicated with permission.
Which kids’ ski boots are best? Your child’s ski boots can impact their overall skiing experience and may even undermine their love for the sport if they find the boots awkward fitting and uncomfortable. In addition to comfort, the ability to retain warmth and be breathable are important qualities your kid’s ski boot should have. If your child is ready to hit the slopes and you’re looking for the ideal pair of boots, ensure you choose one that provides comfort and inspires confidence, such as our top pick, Fischer Junior/Kids RC4 60 Thermoshape Alpine On/Off-Piste Ski Boots . What to know before you buy kids’ ski boots Type There are several types of ski boots for kids, such as rear-entry and front-entry designs as well as performance and adjustable boot options. Rear-entry boots allow your child to slip in their feet from the back, while front entry includes a tongue that opens forward and allows the child to slide in their foot from the top. Another type is performance boots, which are made for older kids who want a better performance from their footwear. The adjustable ski boot is another option, and it is a great choice for kids who grow out of their footwear quickly. Size It’s easy to think your child’s boots are too small because they feel stiff and tight, but some boots are designed to be stiff. To avoid making a mistake with the sizing, take your child with you to the ski shop to get them sized. You can speak to a ski technician to learn more about the fit process. Let your child try on the boot with the liner while wearing socks. If the liner is tight, then the boots may be too small. Level of experience If your child is just starting with skiing and is only confident skiing on green runs, they are considered a beginner. Their category is intermediate if they can ski confidently on the blue square terrains. However, they are advanced if they can ski anything on the mountain. Kids’ ski boots usually come with ratings depending on their experience level. The boots with a lower flex rating are designed for beginners and are comfortable to wear but deliver less on performance. Those with a higher rating are usually less comfortable but provide better performance. What to look for in a quality kids’ ski boot Ease of use Some children may end up abandoning skiing because they’d rather be doing something else other than constantly taking their boots on and off. Front-entry and rear-entry ski boots are easy to wear, so choose either of these options for a fussy child. Slip resistance Your child’s boots should grip the floor properly to minimize their chance of falling when skiing. This feature is known as slip resistance and is often determined by the type of material used to fabricate the outsole of the boots. Generally, slip-resistant soles are textured and made of rubber. Waterproofing Waterproof ski boots are made of nonporous materials and can keep your child’s feet dry even when submerged in water. There are water-resistant boots designed to repel water, but these won’t prevent your child’s feet from getting wet in heavy rain or snow. How much you can expect to spend on kids’ ski boots Most kids’ ski boots cost $25-$40. Some expensive options are made with high-quality waterproof material, costing up to $60. Kids’ ski boot FAQ How do you know if your child’s ski boots are the right size? A. Ski boots have a different sizing for shoes, called Mondo sizing, which measures the inside of the foot. The blue blur returns — and explores. Few video game characters are as well-known as Sonic, the notoriously smart-mouthed chili dog-eating hedgehog. Sonic has been around for decades, and in that time his games have been a lot of things — side-scrollers, pinball games, kart racers, fighting games, and more. You’d think the blue blur had done everything by this point, but in 2022 the series managed to break new ground yet again, by going entirely open world. Sonic Frontiers is a fascinating Sonic experience, one with some clear flaws that still manages to set itself apart from the flood of open world games out there. Its sense of speed and almost zen-like exploration is more than worth the price of entry for any fan, and luckily if you’re a PlayStation Plus member , that price is now zero. If you need some Sonic to scratch the itch after watching Sonic the Hedgehog 3 , you can’t go wrong with Frontiers . Frontiers is essentially a self-contained game, one separated from almost all of the other story lines and settings. The exception, of course, is that the game assumes you have some familiarity with characters like Tails, Robotnik, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. There are some references to past games and events, but you’ll be mostly fine going in blind. An open world that manages to set itself apart from the flood of open world games out there is a feat in itself. At the beginning of Frontiers , Doctor Eggman travels to the mysterious Starfall Islands to steal ancient technology, once again trying to hatch one of his ludicrous plots. He uploads an artificial intelligence named Sage into a portal on the island, and inadvertently wakes up its defense system and gets drawn into another dimension called Cyber Space. As Sonic and his friends investigate they start to see visions about the Ancients, an extraterrestrial race that lives on the island and was destroyed by an entity simply known as “The End.” The storytelling in Sonic games isn’t usually incredibly complex, but Frontiers opts for a different approach by looping its narrative into exploration and leaving a lot of things cryptic and up for interpretation. Playing as Sonic, you essentially explore a sequence of islands, with each one growing more complex in the way its puzzles and open areas work. The islands are littered with ancient ruins and structures that act as both platforming challenges and puzzles, along with plenty of enemies to fight. An upgrade system even lets you pump up Sonic’s speed, attack, defense, ring capacity, and boost. Little wrinkles and gimmicks in later islands keep things interesting, as well as new skills Sonic unlocks. Frontiers has so many little puzzles and places to explore, that it’s easy to get “into the zone.” Frontier’s open world is, bizarrely, most comparable to Breath of the Wild — in the way that it hyper-focuses on exploration and discovery. This isn’t an experience that guides you by hand but rather wants you to poke around the islands on your own, find little puzzles to solve, creatures to save, and a boatload of secrets. The world isn’t as well put-together as Breath of the Wild , and the gameplay itself, particularly Sonic’s movement, can feel janky, imprecise, and rough around the edges. But what’s remarkable about Frontiers is the kind of calming effect playing it has. The world almost reminds you of one of those weird ‘90s animation concepts meant to showcase the power of CG — a dreamlike place that doesn’t obey the laws of reality. There’s no pressure to do anything in a timely manner in Frontiers , and simply running around the world spin-dashing and grinding on rails is delightful. It just feels good to exist in this world. Frontier’s bombastic boss battles are a sight to behold. The extra wrinkle here, however, is how that quiet reverie is occasionally, intentionally, broken by the game’s over-the-top boss battles. Each boss has you transforming into Super Sonic and engaging in what is essentially a Dragon Ball Z fight, filled with explosive moves and crazy combos. Sonic Frontiers is a fascinating game, with contemplative quiet spoiled abruptly with in-your-face action. It’s experimental and drastically different from anything Sonic has seen before, but that’s another part of its charm. While we wait to see what Sonic’s future looks like, Frontiers might just give you a little glimpse. Video Games PlayStation Xbox

Real Madrid 's Intercontinental Cup triumph marked a remarkable milestone for Carlo Ancelotti on Wednesday as the Italian became the manager with the most titles in the club's history with a total of 15 trophies. After his side breezed past Pachuca 3-0 in a largely one-sided contest at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, Ancelotti surpassed the late Miguel Munoz , whom he equalled in August by winning the European Super Cup against Atalanta. "There are so many of them (titles)! I'm delighted, really happy... it's a success story," a smiley Ancelotti told Spanish television channel Telecinco. "Today I really liked the attitude from the players. Up front, they made the difference, Vinicius Jr had a great game. Offensively we did well. "We have a lot of quality. Kylian (Mbappe) had a good game, Rodrygo scored the second... We are very happy because we won a title far from home and in the middle of a busy season." When he was lured back to Madrid for a second spell three years ago, following the departure of club great Zinedine Zidane, he knew that his only mission was to increase Real's trophy haul and he has not disappointed. He became the first manager to capture titles in each of Europe's top five leagues - England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France - and has guided Real Madrid to two Champions League and LaLiga doubles in three seasons. Ancelotti's Real Madrid silverware includes three Champions League titles, two Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, two Spanish League titles, two Spanish Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and, now, one Intercontinental Cup title. Almost five decades on from the “gruesome” and “brutal” alleged murder of two women in their home, a suspect in the investigation into the frenzied stabbings has touched down in Australia. Perry Kouroumblis landed in Melbourne late on Tuesday night after being extradited from Italy, marking the first time in about eight years he has stepped foot on Australian soil. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Suspected Easey Street killer lands in Melbourne following extradition Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Police said they expected to interview him on Wednesday. He was arrested at Rome’s Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in September in connection to the alleged slaying of Suzanne Armstrong, 28, and Susan Bartlett, 27, in January 1977. Dubbed the “Easey Street murders,” the friends were found dead with more than two dozen stab wounds in their home on Easey Street in Collingwood in Melbourne’s inner north. Bartlett’s 16-month-old son Gregory was found unharmed in his cot. The 65-year-old Kouroumblis was filmed sporting a white beard and wavy grey hair by 7NEWS as he flew back to Melbourne on a Qatar Airways flight flanked by Victoria Police officers on Tuesday . During the flight he was served food, had a drink and watched a film. Victoria Police had issued an INTERPOL red notice alert for Kouroumblis on two charges of murder and one of rape. But the Greek-Australian dual national was not able to be arrested in Greece due to a 20-year statute of limitation on the initiation of murder charges. Following his arrest, he told Italian authorities he was “happy” to be extradited and his lawyer said he was prepared to face trial but that a judge will have final sign off. Kouroumblis maintains his innocence. Police were set to interview Kouroumblis on Wednesday and he was expected to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later in the day. The suspect will be charged with two counts of murder and one count of rape during his court appearance. Armstrong and Bartlett were last seen alive on January 10, 1977, and their bodies were found three days later. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton has described the murders as “an absolutely gruesome, horrific, frenzied homicide”. He said advances in technology, investigative techniques and retracing statements had contributed to the breakthrough in Victoria’s “most serious cold case and longest cold case” ever solved. “There is simply no expiry date on crimes that are as brutal as this,” he said. The force offered a $1 million reward in 2017 to catch those responsible. The women went to school together at Benalla in Victoria’s north and their families said their deaths changed many lives “irrevocably”.Daphnila Vis: From Mrs. Grand Queen Universe 2022 to Prominent Beauty Advocate in DubaiRobinson scores 25 in Mercer's 90-89 OT win against JacksonvilleNone
NoneLOS ANGELES (AP) — Two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell says it was a really easy decision to sign with the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the presence of three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani played a part, too. Snell was introduced Tuesday at Dodger Stadium accompanied by his agent Scott Boras. The left-hander finalized a $182 million, five-year contract last Saturday. “It was really easy just cause me and Haeley wanted to live here, it’s something we’ve been talking about for a while,” Snell said, referring to his girlfriend. “Then you look at the team. You look at what they’ve built, what they’re doing. It’s just something you want to be a part of.” Last month, Snell opted out of his deal with San Francisco to become a free agent for the second consecutive offseason after he was slowed by injuries during his lone year with the San Francisco Giants. Snell gets a $52 million signing bonus, payable on Jan. 25, and annual salaries of $26 million, of which $13.2 million each year will be deferred . Because Snell is a Washington state resident, the signing bonus will not be subject to California income tax. “It just played out the way that people around me felt comfortable with, I felt comfortable with, they felt comfortable with,” Snell said. “We talked and found something that could work for both of us. You want your worth, you want your respect, and you want enough time to where you can really make a name for yourself. I've made a name for myself outside of LA, but I'm going to be invested.” Two-way star Ohtani, who signed a record $700 million, 10-year deal a year ago, had a historic first season with the Dodgers. He helped them win the franchise's eighth World Series while playing only as designated hitter and became MVP in the National League for the first time after twice winning the award while in the American League. “It helps with him in the lineup for sure. That’s big motivation,” Snell said. “You want to be around players like that when you’re trying to be one of the best in the game. Yeah, it played a big part.” Snell joins Ohtani and fellow Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto atop Los Angeles’ rotation. All-Star Tyler Glasnow will be back after having his first season in LA derailed by a sprained elbow. Ohtani didn’t pitch this year while recovering from right elbow surgery but is expected back on the mound in 2025. The rest of the rotation includes Tony Gonsolin, Landon Knack, Dustin May, Bobby Miller and Emmet Sheehan. “I pitched on six-man, five-man, four-man rotations,” Snell said. “I'm good with it all as long as we have a plan, we'll execute it.” Snell, who turns 32 on Wednesday, went 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 20 starts this year, throwing a no-hitter at Cincinnati on Aug. 2 for one of only 16 individual shutouts in the major leagues this season. He struck out 145 and walked 44 in 104 innings. He was sidelined between April 19 and May 22 by a strained left adductor and between June 2 and July 9 by a strained left groin. Snell won Cy Young Awards in 2018 with Tampa Bay and 2023 with San Diego. He is 76-58 with a 3.19 ERA in nine seasons with the Rays (2016-20), Padres (2021-23) and Giants. He has known Andrew Friedman, Dodgers president of baseball operations, since he was 18. In the aftermath of winning the World Series and discussing how the Dodgers could repeat next year, Friedman said, “All conversations kept coming back to Blake.” “Usually in major league free agency, you're buying the backside of a guy's career, the accomplishments that they have had,” he said. “With Blake, one thing that's really exciting for us is, as much success as he's had, we feel like there's more in there." Snell was 2-2 against the Dodgers in his career. “We couldn’t beat him, so we’re going to have him join us,” Friedman said. .___ AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB
