Login or signup to continue reading In 2023, 42 of the 96 children who died and who were known to authorities were Aboriginal, the Child Death 2023 Annual Report says. The colonisation of Aboriginal land has had a devastating and long-lasting impact on Aboriginal people, the report says. "Past policy and legislation leading to the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families and Country has resulted in profound, intergenerational trauma. "Ongoing, systemic disadvantage is reflected in the continuous over-representation of Aboriginal children in contact with child protection and out-of-home care system." It was imperative that DCJ look for ways to understand and address the disproportionate number of Aboriginal children in the system and engage in culturally reflective and responsive practice, the report says. In May 2024, the Minister for Families and Communities Kate Washington approved a DCJ plan to make interim changes to risk assessment to respond to concerns about a cultural bias within the previous 'structured decision making' risk assessment process. Since September, the department has started using the new 'family based assessment' process, the report says. "DCJ is redesigning the family preservation service system in NSW to improve outcomes, experience, suitability and accessibility for families who want to access and would benefit from working with a family preservation service," the report says. As part of ongoing reform, DCJ jas committed to growing the Aboriginal community controlled sector to ensure the child protection system has the capability and capacity to meet the needs of Aboriginal communities and families. Romance Scams As the holidays approach, the FBI says to be particularly careful not to fall for romance scams . Typically, a scammer will work to establish a relationship as quickly as possible, endear himself to the victim, and gain trust. Scammers will often seem genuine, caring, and believable, and may propose marriage, but will likely use any number of excuses to avoid actually meeting in person. At some point, the victim will be asked to give the scammer money, sometimes under the guise of needing cash or gift cards for a medical or personal emergency. Keep in mind that scammers can easily go through social media accounts and harvest lots of information about you, even on verified platforms like dating websites or apps, which may make the fake relationship seem that much more genuine. Rana Sana expects PTI to present demands by Jan 2Police operatives in Kogi State have arrested one Abdulmuqeet Musari, for injuring a 200-level undergraduate student of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Usman Tijani. The spokesman for the state police command, Williams Aya, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in Lokoja on Thursday. Aya said: “The suspect has been in our custody, and the investigation is ongoing. “He will be arraigned on completion of the investigation.” The Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Mr. Bashiru Okatenwu, also confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Lokoja by his media aide, Suleiman Acheneje. He said the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on December 23 near the Adavi Burial Ground in New Zango, Adavi. November 21 - Current No. 3 quarterback Daniel Jones lined up as a scout team safety in Thursday's practice in the surest sign to date that he's done with the New York Giants. Jones read a prepared statement, saying he wanted to make sure he clearly shared the words and sentiment he felt needed to be aired after losing the starting job to former undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito. In his first public comments on the decision made by head coach Brian Daboll after a team meeting on Monday, Jones spoke in the past tense about his time with the Giants (2-8), a strong signal that a professional divorce is imminent. "The opportunity to play for the New York Giants was truly a dream come true and I am extremely grateful ... for the chance to play here," Jones said Thursday. "The Giants are truly a first-class organization and I have nothing but genuine respect and appreciation for the people who built it and who help carry on the tradition. I've met so many special people and created relationships that will truly last a lifetime. Thank you to all my teammates, coaches and staff that have done so much for me these past six years. There have been some great times, but of course we all wish there had been more of those." Ranked 32nd among all qualified quarterbacks in passer rating this season, Jones has eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024. He also carries an injury guarantee worth $23 million for this season that the Giants likely don't want to risk paying only to cut ties with him in the offseason.
