Personal Finance Credit Card Link UPI: Link your credit card to UPI from home, know step-by-step guide By Shyamu Maurya December 30, 2024 0 25 Share Facebook Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp Telegram Credit Card Link UPI: Link your credit card to UPI from home, know step-by-step guide Credit Card Link UPI: Credit cards have lost some of the market share to UPI apps of late which have become ubiquitous, particularly among the young customers Credit Card Link UPI: In 1980, Central Bank of India launched the first credit card in India, while Andhra Bank rolled out a VISA-branded credit card a year later. So, credit cards have clearly been around us for a long time now. And why not? They enable users to buy merchandise on credit so that we can make the payment for it at a later date. Customers are usually given a 45-day interest free period following which they are charged an interest. However, credit cards have lost some of the market share to UPI apps lately which have become quite prevalent. Total credit card payments across platforms rose 12 percent in the past one year, while the UPI payments touched 2.34 lakh crore in Oct 2024, reflecting an increase of 37 percent in 1 year. Clearly, UPI payments are growing considerably faster than card payments. People tend to use UPI for every small and large purchase – be it at a small vendor or at a movie hall or a shopping mall. But what UPI apps typically lack is the credit period. Since UPI is linked to your debit card, you need to have money in your bank account to be able to use this digital payment system. However, what if you can get the best of both worlds. This means being able to use an UPI app such as a RuPay and get a credit line at the same time. Yes, this is exactly what happens when you have a credit card linked to UPI. What are RuPay credit cards linked to UPI? RuPay Credit Cards on UPI offer a digitally enabled credit card lifecycle experience for the customers who tend to benefit from the ease and the increased opportunity to use their credit cards. This is how you can link RuPay credit card on UPI First you need to open the BHIM UPI app and enter the passcode. Now you can click the bank account in which you have an account. Select the credit card option followed by the credit card issuer bank. Now you can select your credit card. After this, you can click to view accounts and select from available options. Now you can select UPI PIN. Using UPI credit card: Steps to follow One must first scan merchant UPI QR code. Now, you need to enter an amount or pay with an auto fetched amount and select a credit card. Finally, you have to select a RuPay credit account followed by UPI PIN. South Korea's Martial Law Controversy: President Faces ArrestNEW DELHI, Dec 30: With the rapid evolution of channels like quick-commerce and the emergence of ONDC, the Indian retail industry is ‘cautiously optimistic’ for 2025, in which new-age technologies such as AI and automation will play a crucial role, driving efficiency and personalisation. The New Year could be a period of transformation for the Indian retail industry, one of the fastest-growing globally, where the contemporary retail landscape is rapidly evolving, influenced by the preferences of digital-first generation Gen Z and retail tech. Helped by tailwinds such as rising disposable income, rapid urbanisation, the rise of non-metro tier II cities, and growing middle class along with a digitally-savvy consumer base, the organised retail sector is poised to grow expanding its play further with a customer-centric approach. “FY25 is likely to see continued focus on building supply chain efficiencies, along with upgrades to logistics hubs and tracking systems to meet fast delivery demands. Employment generation in quick commerce, logistics, and related sectors is also expected to continue,” said EY India Tax Leader for Retail Practice Paresh Parekh. Indian consumers, influenced by global exposure and digital technologies, are prioritising higher quality and value for money. This has resulted in a shift in spending from luxuries to essentials or more affordable options. “Despite these challenges, the outlook for 2025 remains positive, driven by demographic trends, urbanisation, digital growth, and the aspirations of a young, dynamic middle class,” he said. Parekh expects an increase in foreign investments in the retail sector and a continuance of consolidation led by PE firms and strategic acquisitions. According to the Retailers Association of India (RAI), the Indian retail sector in 2024 has witnessed a mix of challenges and opportunities. “Growth was subdued in the first half, with marginal consumption increases and cautious consumer spending. Many retailers struggled to achieve like-for-like growth, reflecting shifting consumer priorities,” said its CEO Kumar Rajagopalan adding “Despite this, the year also brought innovation and resilience.” Retailers have embraced technology to enhance operations and customer experience and initiatives like ONDC are creating exciting new opportunities, particularly in reaching untapped markets. “Looking ahead, the sector remains cautiously optimistic. The festive and wedding seasons have boosted momentum, and with strategic planning, retailers can sustain growth into 2025,” he said. The Indian retail sector contributes around 10 per cent to its GDP and according to the latest annual report of leading retailer, Reliance it is expected to cross USD 1.4 trillion by 2027. It is also poised to become the third-largest market by 2030. Over the emergence of quick commerce, Deloitte India partner, consumer products and retail sector Anand Ramanathan said it is a “viable business model” and it is here to stay. 2024 has been disruptive for the retail sector, which besides the emergence of quick commerce, also saw the revival of mass consumption and the value retail segment for the first time since the pandemic. “100 million middle-income households will be added this decade to the economy. 2025 will continue to see the impact of this growth in middle-income households with further momentum in mass consumption. This will have a positive impact across sectors including fashion, home and food services,” said Ramanathan. Puneet Mansukhani Sector Head – Retail KPMG said in 2024 retailers faced significant challenges due to inflation impacting profitability and supply chain disruptions. “These issues required strategic pricing adjustments and innovative solutions to maintain smooth operations. The festive season did see some uptake as compared to the previous year but overall the customer was cautious. “The ecommerce spend in the tier 2 and 3 cities was stronger than urban and the trend is likely to continue which makes the retailers feel bullish and optimistic in 2025,” he said. Over the outlook for 2025 for the retail industry, he said continued advancements in AI and automation are “expected to drive efficiency and personalisation” in retail, enhancing customer engagement and operational efficiency. Moreover “increased use of data analytics will enable more personalised shopping experiences, catering to individual consumer preferences,” he said. Retailers will likely focus more on sustainability and transparency in their supply chains, responding to consumer demand for ethical practices. However, Mansukhani also hinted towards economic uncertainty and said “Inflation and economic volatility may continue to pose challenges, affecting consumer spending patterns.” (PTI)FDA Grants Revascor® (Rexlemestrocel-L) Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) Designation in Children with Congenital Heart Disease

Australia Bans Social Media for People Under 16. Could This Work Elsewhere — or Even There?Australian artists are moving away from large record labels and forming unique relationships with fans through social media to gain huge followings. The new trend is seeing Australian emerging artists become social media experts, using TikTok videos and Instagram reels to win over audiences as international artists dominate Aussie charts. Bogan funk band from Melbourne, Playlunch, shot up on social media in 2023 following the release of their hit Soupe Opera, which sampled the classic French stop motion TV show from the 90s. Formed in Melbourne’s east, Playlunch weaves funk and disco influences with Australian culture references, from former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ infamous “get on the beers” comment to Corey Worthington’s “I’ll say sorry but I won’t take my glasses off” interview. Frontman Liam Bell plays guitar, produces music, co-manages the band and works a string of jobs on the side to pay the bills, all while running the band’s social media. The 26-year-old said needing emerging artists to be social media experts is “such a big ask” and can be a “hassle”, admitting he previously resented the expectation. “Being a good performer and just writing and playing music as well as you can is a hard enough endeavour, without having to add to it to be able to become a marketing expert — that’s such a big ask of artists these days,” Bell said. A crowd went wild in Frankston after local band Playlunch divided them into "house colours" in a throwback to Athletics Day at school. However he said the ability to control the band’s image is liberating and has been a great way to connect with their audience. Recalling a tour of the East Coast back in April, Bell said concert goers had dressed up after catching on to their house colour themed outfits (synonymous with athletics days in Aussie schools), referenced in their song Athletics Day and in videos posted to social media. “They were so excited to see us – they were lined up, they were wearing costumes ... they’re proper fans,” he said. The content Playlunch posts ranges from clips from their shows and music videos to candid chats, including one from November where Bell gave a shout out to a fan who handed out detention slips at one of their gigs. The slips were scrawled with “detention for outfits being too cool”, “unrealistically funky”, and “landlord gave an eviction” – the latter a reference to their song No Hat No Play. “We didn’t need a record label to help us get this ... this pure relationship between a fan and an artist,” Bell said. “It is truly liberating for artists, if you can make it work, to be in an age where you can do it all yourself and you can be as authentic as you are willing to dare to let yourself be without having any sort of idiot music industry executive saying they know any better, trying to cookie cut you and cut you off at the edges to fit you into some mould of what they think is going to succeed. “There’s just so much other stuff that is so much more real that people have found on social media.” Melbourne band Playlunch shot up on social media last year with their Australiana lyrics and influences, including their hit Soupe Opera, which sampled the classic French stop motion TV show from the 90s. Bell said he previously told himself using social media is “just what we have to do to build an audience, and eventually ... we (will) have that audience and we don’t need to have that same pressure anymore”. “But eventually you realise ‘Oh, the reason things are going well is because we’re putting this much work into social media’. You don’t get off the train,” he said. Q Music and Big Sound chief executive Kris Stewart said it’s “hard to deny” the need for new artists to use social media is “a pain in the a**”, but on the flip side a strong social media presence could give artists more agency over their image and help them get signed to a label. “For some artists it’s a positive, but obviously not for all artists because it expects you to be a lot better at more things than you probably expected to be to start your music career,” Mr Stewart said. “It’s sort of a move away from a tower of large labels, and certainly in Australia the ability for large labels to make a big investment in artists like they do.” He said it’s also a good way for people to “stumble upon” new artists, as algorithms on streaming services aren’t “there to surprise us”, but rather feed people with music and artists they already enjoy, making it difficult for emerging artists to break out. Indie-pop trio The Stamps have also made social media part of their regular routine, with band member Scarlett Graham admitting they spend “a lot of time” creating content to market themselves while having a bit of fun along the way. “I think that if you have control of your social media ... you’re able to attract an audience that is likely going to stick around if you are who you are,” Graham said. “If you’re able to control it yourself, then you’re able to capture the attention of people who absolutely like you for who you are, which I think is nice because then you get people who really do like you, listen and support you.” Having recently signed with the ABC, Bell urged other artists to put their best foot forward and learn how to use editing software. “It will be the best thing you ever do,” Bell said. “It will be a steep learning curve, and it will suck in the beginning, but once you’re good at this, it will just be completely invaluable to your success these days.” Playlunch are expected to drop new music in February 2025, while The Stamps recently dropped their new single Slow Burn.Trump picks Texan Brooke Rollins to lead agriculture department
