Beyoncé‘s Mom Hits Back at Halftime Show HatersThe Seattle Seahawks placed leading rusher Kenneth Walker III on injured reserve due to an ankle injury and signed George Holani off the practice squad on Thursday afternoon. Walker had been ruled out earlier in the day ahead of Thursday's game against the host Chicago Bears. He returned from a two-game absence due to an ailing calf on Sunday before injuring his ankle in the Seahawks' 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Zach Charbonnet is set to shoulder the load in the backfield for the Seahawks (8-7), who have lost two in a row heading into Thursday's game against the Bears (4-11). Seattle is in a must-win situation. Even if the Seahawks can top Chicago and beat the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18, they still might miss out on the postseason because of the strength-of-victory tiebreaker. Walker, 24, leads Seattle in carries (153) and rushing yards (573) to go along with seven rushing touchdowns. Charbonnet, 23, has a team-best eight rushing touchdowns to go along with 106 carries for 453 yards. Holani, who turned 25 on Dec. 16, has three carries for 10 yards in three games this season. He is an undrafted rookie out of Boise State. The Seahawks also ruled out tight end Brady Russell (foot) and safety K'Von Wallace (ankle) for Thursday's game. Cornerback Artie Burns was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for the contest. The Bears will be without defensive backs Elijah Hicks (ankle/foot) and Tarvarius Moore (knee), running back Travis Homer (hamstring) and offensive lineman Teven Jenkins (calf). --Field Level Media

The Miami Hurricanes, who once appeared to be a near-lock for the College Football Playoff, are not playing for a national title. Instead, they will play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando. That bowl berth against Iowa State is a let-down for fans with dreams of a sixth national title in their minds, as well as players hoping to compete for a championship. However, Miami’s trip to Orlando and the lead-up to it are still crucial periods for the Hurricanes for multiple reasons. First, it’s a chance for the program to achieve something it has not done in more than two decades: win 11 games. Although the 11th win won’t get them closer to a championship, it is a good sign of the program’s progress over Mario Cristobal’s tenure. It would also end UM’s five-game losing streak in bowls. “We’re not satisfied,” Cristobal said. “We want to win every single game. We won 10. We were close on the other two, but close isn’t good enough. We want progress. We’re hungry and driven to get better, and so that’s what our focus is on: to improving as a football program, to getting better, to moving into the postseason with an opportunity against a great football team like this and putting our best on the field.” There are signs the Hurricanes will show up at close to full strength for the bowl game. Running back Damien Martinez announced he was going to play, and star quarterback Cam Ward said in a video call posted on social media that he intends to play, as well. “We’re trying to win our first bowl game in 20 years,” Ward said in the video, mistaking the length of UM’s long bowl losing streak. “We’re going hard.” Playing in the bowl game also provides the opportunity for the Hurricanes to get in several practices between now and the game. That means Miami can develop its young players and prepare them for next season during both the practices and the bowl game itself. “It’s extremely valuable,” Cristobal said. “You really don’t have many opportunities throughout the course of the year — time is limited more and more each season with your student-athletes. I want to state this and be very clear: it’s very important, it’s ultra-important for the University of Miami to continue to develop and grow and progress by stressing the importance of offseason opportunities ... You learn a lot about your team and learn a lot about your people and your program when you head to the postseason.” Of course, there are potential negatives. Players can get hurt; Mark Fletcher Jr. suffered a foot injury in the Pinstripe Bowl last year that cost him all of spring practice. A poor performance can also potentially set the tone for next season, like how Florida State, fresh off a playoff snub last year, suffered a devastating loss against Georgia in the Orange Bowl and went on to a dismal 2-10 season this year. “This is the ending of ’24 and the beginning of ’25,” Cristobal said. “This is the last opportunity to be on the field and carry some momentum into the offseason. So it is, in essence, it is the most important game because it’s the next game. “There’s a lot of excitement in the form of opportunity for our guys. Our guys love to play football. The chance to play one more time with this special group — this is a special group of guys now. They’ve worked hard to really change the trajectory of the University of Miami, and they want to continue to elevate the status and the culture at the University of Miami. So certainly a ton to play for.” ____ Get local news delivered to your inbox!

Bryce Thompson scored 17 points and achieved a milestone as Oklahoma State defeated Miami 80-74 on Friday afternoon in a Charleston Classic consolation game in Charleston, S.C. Thompson made 6-of-14 shots from the floor, surpassing 1,000 points for his career at Oklahoma State (4-1), which also got 15 points from Marchelus Avery. The Cowboys won in large part thanks to their impressive 3-point shooting (10-for-22, 45.5 percent). Oklahoma State backup guard Arturo Dean, a Miami native, posted eight points and one steal. He led the nation in steals last season while playing for Florida International. Miami (3-2) has lost two straight games in Charleston, failing to take a lead at any point. They will play on Sunday against either Nevada or VCU. The Hurricanes on Friday were led by Nijel Pack, who had a game-high 20 points. Brandon Johnson had a double-double for Miami with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Matthew Cleveland scored 11 points and Lynn Kidd and Paul Djobet added 10 points apiece for Miami. Miami, which fell behind 7-0 in Thursday's loss to Drake, got behind 9-0 on Friday as Abou Ousmane scored six of his eight points. Oklahoma State stretched its lead to 18 before settling for a 43-27 advantage at the break. Pack led all first-half scorers with 10 points, but Miami shot just 29.6 percent from the floor, including 3-of-13 on 3-pointers (23.1). Oklahoma State shot 48.4 percent, including 8-for-15 on 3-pointers (53.3 percent) before intermission. The Cowboys also had a 14-8 edge in paint points. In the second half, Miami closed its 20-point deficit to 55-42 with 12:12 left. Miami got a bit closer as two straight short jumpers by Kidd, trimming the deficit to 73-62 with 3:25 to play. The Hurricanes cut it to 77-70 on Pack's 3-pointer with 34 seconds remaining, but the Cowboys hit their free throws to close out the win. --Field Level MediaFormer world champion Rob Cross is back in action at the PDC World Darts Championship tonight as he faces Scott Williams. Cross won the tournament back in 2018 but crashed out of last year's tournament at the semi-final stage, losing to teenage sensation Luke Littler. He comes into this year's championships as the fifth-highest-ranked player and is expected to reach the latter stages, but his opponent tonight will be eyeing an upset. Williams is no stranger to causing a stir either, having made headlines during his stint at Alexandra Palace a year ago due to some controversial comments. Following his 4-3 win over Germany's Martin Schindler in last year's third round, Williams told Sky Sports: "I've never had the crowd on my side like that. I know we won two World Wars and one World Cup but that was... the German fans in here were huge." The broadcaster was then forced to apologise for the Englishman's 'offensive language', with Williams - nicknamed 'Shaggy' - later issuing an apology of his own. Expressing his regret, he wrote: "I was advised to come off social media, just X, what I said in the last interview on stage was stupid, genuinely stupid. The guys from Germany know I love Germany. "My deepest apologies to anyone who took offence, I have had a lot of messages from people who haven't taken offence, but that has gone now and I am looking forward to Monday," he added. Williams continued to play up to crowds in his first round win over Niko Springer at this year's championships, as he pulled off a 'no look' 180 on his way to a 3-1 victory.Oklahoma State's 3-point accuracy sends Miami to defeat

Hehe culture's message of ecological harmony: living in symbiosis with nature: Global Times article 12-26-2024 08:08 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance Press release from: Getnews / PR Agency: SHENZHEN HMEDIUM INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CO.,LTD The Global Times is proud to present the second installment in its series exploring the global significance of "Hehe" culture. This timeless Chinese concept, deeply rooted in harmony, peace, and unity, provides profound insights into addressing contemporary global challenges. A Rich Cultural Legacy The concept of "Hehe" draws from thousands of years of Chinese philosophy and cultural tradition. The term, with the first "He" embodying harmony, peace, and balance, and the second "He" representing convergence, unity, and cooperation, serves as a guiding principle for personal and collective well-being. The Global Times series investigates how this ancient ideal has sustained China's unity over centuries and its potential relevance for the modern world. This latest feature highlights the intellectual and philosophical origins of "Hehe" culture, tracing its synthesis of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. It examines how these principles promote harmony within societies, between nations, and with the natural world. The article delves into the lives of legendary figures like Hanshan and Shide, the "Two Immortals of Harmony" from the Tang dynasty (618-907), who embodied "Hehe" values through their poetry, acts of kindness, and coexistence with nature. Relevance to Modern Challenges The feature also explores how "Hehe" culture offers timeless guidance for addressing today's challenges, including climate change, international conflicts, and ecological degradation. By emphasizing the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, the philosophy advocates for sustainable living and global cooperation. China's modern initiatives, such as its ecological civilization campaigns, are framed as reflections of this enduring wisdom. The article further draws parallels between "Hehe" culture and other global philosophies. For instance, it compares the ecological harmony of "Hehe" with Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess's concept of "deep ecology," which calls for humanity to transcend narrow anthropocentrism. Similarly, the article connects the harmony emphasized in "Hehe" with principles of Ubuntu from Southern Africa and the Indian ideals of Satya (truth) and Ahimsa (non-violence), highlighting the universal aspiration for peace and coexistence. A Framework for Unity and Collaboration In today's fractured global landscape, the message of "Hehe" culture is more pertinent than ever. The article emphasizes the importance of fostering understanding, mutual respect, and cooperation across cultures and ideologies. Drawing on examples such as recent diplomatic breakthroughs between China and India, the feature illustrates how "Hehe" values can inspire solutions to conflicts and promote a more peaceful, rules-based multilateral system. Readers are invited to access the full article on the Global Times website to delve deeper into these transformative ideas and their implications for modern governance, international relations, and environmental stewardship. Walker capitalized on a poor rim by Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov that was picked off by Radek Faksa, and centered to Walker at the net-front. Faksa started the play by winning the game’s opening faceoff, part of a perfect 6 for 6 first period in the circle for the veteran center. “I think if you can just have a good shift in itself, let alone get a goal on the first shift, it kind of sets the tone for the game,” Walker said. “Faks made a great heads up play for me there. ... Just stayed in front of the net, and got a nice little deflection on it.” Walker’s goal was the fastest by a Blues player since Zack Bolduc scored 11 seconds into the game on April 7 in Anaheim. It was tied for the sixth-fastest goal in franchise history, as Alexander Steen (March 16, 2010) and Greg Paslawski (Oct. 29, 1985) share the record at eight seconds. Walker’s goal was seven seconds faster than the previous quickest tally, which was Michael Kesselring’s goal 18 seconds into Utah’s game in St. Louis on Nov. 7. The line of Walker, Faksa and Toropchenko is one of just 28 around the NHL that have played at least two hours together at 5 on 5. During that time, the Blues are even (6-6) in goals. “We’ve got a Russian, a Czech and an Aussie, so the communication is a little tough sometimes,” Walker said. “It’s good. We chat a lot. We’re good friends on and off the ice, so it definitely makes for a good mix.” Welcome back Blues defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph was the only St. Louis player on the ice for both goals scored on Thursday night, as he helped get the puck deep before Walker’s goal in the first period, and then Joseph picked up the primary assist on Jordan Kyrou’s second-period goal. Joseph was playing his first game in a week following a lower-body injury in Buffalo that forced him to miss three games. In total, he logged 15:53 of ice time with two shot attempts and one blocked shot. “I thought P.O played very well,” Blues coach Drew Bannister said. “I thought he stepped in and played well. I was happy for him, I was happy for the team.” With Joseph on the ice at 5 on 5, the Blues outshot the Sharks, 13-5. That 72.2% share of shots on goal was the second-highest of the season for Joseph in 14 games played. Stuck out there Leading up to Alexander Wennberg’s game-tying goal with 8.8 seconds remaining in the third period on Thursday, a quartet of Blues were trudging through shifts that nearly reached three minutes. Robert Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich, Colton Parayko and Ryan Suter were all on the ice for the 2:39 preceding Wennberg’s goal with the extra attacker. It was by far each player’s longest shift of the evening. Jake Neighbours, Brayden Schenn and Radek Faksa rotated in as the fifth Blues skater on the ice. The shift spanned four faceoffs (three lost by Thomas to Macklin Celebrini, one won by Faksa vs. Celebirni) and San Jose’s timeout about a minute into the shift. The Blues iced the puck with 1:23 left in the third period, so they were not allowed to change, but a stoppage with 45 seconds could have allowed St. Louis to get fresh bodies on the ice. Parayko and Suter lead all Blues skaters in total time on ice at 5 on 5, while Thomas averages more than a minute more of ice time than the next closest Blues forward at 5 on 5.

Shares of Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. (FET) rose nearly 10% on Monday after the company announced a share repurchase program and the completion of sale-leaseback transactions. Forum Energy services the oil, natural gas, industrial, and renewable energy industries, providing value-added solutions that increase the safety and efficiency of energy exploration and production. The company said its board of directors has authorized a program to repurchase up to $75 million worth outstanding shares of its common stock. The firm said that under the terms of the company’s outstanding senior secured bonds, share repurchases are subject to a leverage ratio of 1.5x. “Until such time as FET’s Leverage Ratio is less than 1.5x, the company will not repurchase its common stock,” it clarified. Meanwhile, the firm also said that in the fourth quarter, it completed selling two manufacturing facilities in Texas. Net proceeds from the sale totaled approximately $20 million, it added. Forum Energy said the properties remain an integral part of its operations, and long-term lease agreements were executed in connection with the transaction. CEO Neal Lux noted that the firm is committed to maintaining conservative net leverage by using a meaningful portion of its free cash flow to reduce debt further. "In addition, FET is focused on returning cash to its shareholders. The size of our share repurchase program reflects our confidence to generate consistent free cash flow in 2025 and beyond,” he said. Retail chatter on Stocktwits indicated optimism on the stock. Despite the rally on Monday, Forum Energy shares have lost over 30% since the beginning of the year. For updates and corrections, email newsroom[at]stocktwits[dot]com.
