This was a rough summer and fall for all who grew up loving their summer nights spent at Wonderland Pier in Ocean City. The pier was sold to Eustace Mita, CEO and developer of ICONA Resorts. Once summer 2024 came to an end, everyone grew worried about the future of Wonderland Pier and what it would look like going forward. People fear that their cherished memories, along with the sights and sounds of the park, will be gone for forever, never to return. The Ferris Wheel and the Carousel, I would say, are at the center of this heartbreak. These rides aren't just pieces of equipment. They represent decades of Ocean City history, offering breathtaking views of the beach and the bay. Residents are desperately trying to preserve them. There have been efforts to get these rides recognized as historic landmarks, and many hope they'll be saved in some form, even though most now accept the fact that Wonderland Pier itself will likely disappear. The new owner of the property, Eustace Mita, has made some promises about keeping the Ferris Wheel and Carousel, but many people are skeptical. Mita plans to build a new hotel on the site, and while he has said the rides would remain, there's growing concern that he may not actually follow through. Things got even more suspicious when a price sheet appeared online , listing the Ferris Wheel and Carousel for sale along with several other rides from Wonderland. If that price sheet is real, it would suggest that Mita is planning to sell off the rides, which would mean the end of two of the park's most iconic attractions. It's suspicious, though, because it lists certain rides I don't recall from the pier. Moby Dick, for example, is a ride that I know for a fact is on Morey's Piers in Wildwood. I don't recall there being one on Wonderland in Ocean City, but I could be wrong. My memory might be doing me a disservice, at the moment. Now, tensions are rising. Locals are furious, and social media is buzzing with debate over whether the price sheet is authentic or just a rumor. If it turns out to be true, Mita could face serious resistance in his efforts to tear down the park and build a hotel. The Ocean City community is united in its love for Wonderland Pier, and they aren't going to let go of it easily. If Mita does want to move forward with his plans, he will need to get the area re-zoned for a hotel, which could be a huge challenge if residents continue to push back. The fight to save the Ferris Wheel and Carousel is more than just about rides. It's about protecting the heart of a community and ensuring that the history and joy of Wonderland Pier live on for future generations. Reactions have continued to trail the expulsion of Honourable Ikenga Ugochinyere, member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State and spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as announced by the publicity secretary of the party in Imo State, Lancelot Obiak with the expulsion been described as a hoax. Reacting to the trending news, the National Coordinator of the PDP Coalition, Chief Emeka Kalu referred to Ugochinyere’s expulsion as a show of shame on the part of a party presently struggling for survival. Commenting on the development, Kalu declared: “I received with dismay the fraudulently tailored publications signed by the Imo State PDP Publicity Secretary expelling an ardent protagonist of unity and positive change in the party, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere. “At a time the party is gradually working towards rebuilding her broken walls , some persons who failed to see the realities of power tussles in political leadership took to fraudulently abuse processes by raising their ill fated pen to publish Ugochinyere’s expulsion from the party he has continued to give his best for. “Honourable Ugochinyere who has remained the most committed federal legislator elected under PDP in fighting the gross injustice, sabotage and political prebendalism hampering the unity of the party should rather be given accolades of honour than insulting his personality with an expulsion letter. What an irony of bias and political immaturity that guided the writers! “A party that has been captured by the enemies within with all readiness to destroy it should concentrate on fighting to retrieve its glory from the hands of traducers than resorting to fight a man who has never relented in working to ensure the party is robustly strengthened. Rookie Michael Penix Jr. showed what a young QB can do on Sunday against the Giants, who need to learn from it. The No. 8 overall pick in the draft, Penix played a nearly flawless game in his first career start to help the Falcons thrash the woeful Giants 34-7 in their best performance in weeks. The Giants gambled in 2019 that Daniel Jones would be their franchise QB and it really never panned out. The one exception was the 2022 season, when the No. 6 overall pick had a career year and led New York to a 9-7-1 record and a playoff berth in the first season after Joe Schoen was hired as general manager and Brian Daboll was named coach. The Giants even won a playoff game. With the release of Jones last month, the Giants (2-13) are now a team without a quarterback who can perform at the level required of an NFL starter. Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock have split the last four starts but neither has provided much of a spark for the league’s worst offense. Muasau had 11 tackles Sunday along with a quarterback hit and a tackle for a loss. He made the defensive calls after LB Micah McFadden left with a neck injury. Stock down Lock. In his starts, Lock has had three interceptions returned for touchdowns. He also lost a fumble on a strip-sack at Atlanta. Lock sustained a shoulder injury during the game and had an MRI on Monday. Injuries Besides Lock and McFadden, S Jason Pinnock (eye) also left the game. C John Michael Schmitz and RB Tyrone Tracy were evaluated for ankle injuries on Monday. Within the AAC, both teams beat Temple, UAB and East Carolina. Army beat Tulane and Rice and Navy lost to those two teams. Army and Navy also each won its nonconference game against Air Force. Those victories over Air Force mean this season's Commander-In-Chief's Trophy comes down to the Army-Navy game. It's the first time since 2017 that both teams enter this game with a shot at the trophy. It's also the first time since 2017 that both teams enter the game with bowl bids secured. Navy faces Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl and Army takes on Marshall in the Independence Bowl. This year's Army-Navy game is at the Washington Commanders' home stadium in Landover. It was also held there in 2011. This is the first time the game has been in Maryland since Baltimore hosted it in 2016. Baltimore is also up next in 2025. Army quarterback Bryson Daily has 29 rushing touchdowns this season, which is tied for the FBS lead with running back Ashton Jeanty, Boise State's Heisman finalist. Only one QB in FBS history has run for more TDs in a season than Daily. That was Navy's Keenan Reynolds, with 31 in 2013. "You come here to play in this game. The biggest stage possible, millions of people watching and a sold-out NFL stadium. It's awesome," Daily said. "None of the games that happened before this matter. Ohio State AD Ross Bjork appeared on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus on Thursday, where a radio host asked him whether Day would be the Buckeyes' coach at the start of next season regardless of how the playoffs shake out. "Absolutely," said Bjork, who came to Ohio State from the same role at Texas A&M in July. "Coach Day and I have just hit it off so well. I've been really, really impressed. Every single time I've talked to him, I've learned something. He's innovative. He recruits at the highest level. He's got a great staff. There's always tweaks.
