The onset of winter brings about unique challenges for transportation infrastructure in Gansu, a region known for its diverse terrain and extreme weather conditions. Snowstorms and icy roads can significantly impact the safety and accessibility of highways, leading to potential traffic accidents and disruptions in the flow of goods and services. Understanding the critical importance of early intervention and preparedness, the Gansu Transportation Department has implemented a comprehensive low-temperature defense plan to mitigate the impacts of severe weather conditions.
New Delhi: With Delhi assembly polls drawing near, AAP govt has started focusing on schemes that directly benefit the public. With a large number of senior citizens waiting in queue, social welfare department has started accepting applications to enrol them under the ‘old age pension' scheme. Nearly 80,000 people aged above 60 years, with an annual family income of less than Rs 1 lakh, will be enrolled for the senior citizen pension. Delhi govt provides monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,000 to elderly citizens in the age group of 60-69 years, with an additional amount for those belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and minority communities, and Rs 2,500 for those aged 70 and above. Nearly 4.5 lakh senior citizens benefit from the scheme. Since no new additions were made to the list of beneficiaries in the last few years, the actual number have gone down, but the govt and public representatives were receiving frequent queries from eligible persons about the scheme and eligibility for it. Officials said eligible people can apply for the pension by filling up a form on the e-district portal of Delhi govt. While the application system will go live on Nov 24, it will remain functional only until 80,000 applications are received or for a maximum period of three weeks. The annual family income of the applicant from all sources combined should not be more than Rs 1 lakh per month, and he or she must have their own singly-operated bank account," said an official, adding that the applicant must not be receiving any other pension or financial assistance from central or any other state govt. Old age pension has always been a huge political issue. BJP earlier this year alleged that despite having the scope to add nearly one lakh eligible persons to the scheme, Delhi govt had not made any effort in this direction since 2018. While alleging that central govt withheld its contribution to the monthly pension of over a lakh beneficiaries since March this year, AAP govt in Aug claimed that it managed to get it restored after pursuing it with the Centre relentlessly. The social welfare department later decided to make a separate provision in its own budget to arresting Arvind Kejriwal. "Now that he is out of jail, the work has resumed and the employees will soon receive their pending salaries," AAP said in a statement.

VERMILLION — It was a regular season to remember for South Dakota football. With a 9-2 record, capped off by one of the most miraculous victories in the program’s history against North Dakota State, the Coyotes claimed their first Missouri Valley Football Conference title and the No. 4 seed in the FCS Playoffs. ADVERTISEMENT There were plenty of memorable moments throughout the season, but there were a few that really defined the Coyotes' season. Here are three of those season-defining moments ... So technically this play didn’t start the season. The USD defense actually got caught off guard against Northern State in the opening series of the season back on Aug. 29. The Wolves stormed down the field and scored a field goal to go up 3-0 in the first quarter. However, Keyondray Jones-Logan was about to make the first big play of the season. As Northern State kicked it off, Jones-Logan fielded the kick at the three-yard line and proceeded to turn on the afterburners. After evading a few defenders, he was free and took it 97 yards for the return touchdown. It put the Coyotes up 7-3 as they went on to claim victory over the Wolves in the season-opener 45-3. It was the first of two kickoff return touchdowns from Jones-Logan in the regular season and sent a message to the rest of the country of the deadly weapon USD possessed. The message mostly got through too as he didn’t get many more opportunities during the season to field kickoffs as teams either went away from him or kicked it out of the back of the end zone. Regardless, it was a tone-setter, not only in the season-opener but for the rest of the season that the Coyotes were ready to put the country on notice. The Coyotes needed a play and needed a play in the worst way in Brookings. In the most recent edition of the Interstate Series, things had just gone about as wrong as they could have for the Coyotes. Trailing 14-7 with 4:57 left in the game, USD was driving. On the Jacks’ 10-yard line, Aidan Bouman handed off to Travis Theis, who looked back to Bouman as he began a route out to the right side. However, Theis threw an interception on the play as SDSU took all the momentum USD had built over the offensive series. ADVERTISEMENT Suddenly, the Jacks had the chance to run the clock and claim victory if the Coyotes couldn’t come up with some type of game-altering play. Enter Dennis Shorter. Mark Gronowski handed off to Angel Johnson on a fairly simple halfback draw. Shorter charged out of the secondary and put his helmet right on the ball. It launched backward out of Johnson’s arms and was up for grabs as it rolled. Mi’Quise Grace picked it up and ran it in for the game-tying touchdown. No, USD did not go on to beat SDSU as the Coyotes fell in heartbreaking fashion 20-17 in overtime. However, this was the game that truly put the FCS on notice. USD walked into Brookings and was only a play or two away from winning. It cemented the Coyotes as legitimate contenders for a National Championship and Shorter’s forced fumble was the highlight of the night. Was there ever any doubt that this would be the ultimate defining moment of the season? Just a few minutes early, the Coyotes were all but dead in the water. North Dakota State just finished off a back-breaking 20-play, 99-yard touchdown drive that took almost 11 minutes off the clock. The Bison went up 28-17 with just under five minutes to go and hope of a victory seemed all but lost. But there was some magic in the air. USD went on a quick touchdown drive to make it a one-possession game with the Bison leading 28-23. After the defense forced a punt deep in NDSU’s own territory, the stage was set for what would be one of the most memorable drives in USD history. The first big play from Phelps came a few plays before the game-winning catch. Phelps made a miraculous 23-yard catch along the sideline that was originally ruled incomplete. After further review though, Phelps somehow tapped a toe despite actively being pushed out-of-bounds. The catch set the Coyotes up at the Bison 25-yard line. ADVERTISEMENT But Bouman took a sack two plays later and the clock was ticking. However, the hurry from USD to the line caused the NDSU defense a bit of confusion. And, well, Phelps explained what he saw on the very next play. “It was a scramble to get back to the line of scrimmage,” he said. “If you’ve seen the play, it was kind of a busted coverage because whenever you watch the tape, the corner overlapped that the slot receiver. And I was just open from there. I couldn’t believe [I was that open].” Phelps found himself with no defender near him as Bouman delivered a pass at the four-yard line. Phelps all but walked it in as USD went up 29-28. NDSU couldn’t deliver a miracle lateral play with just a few seconds left as the Coyotes clinched their first conference title in school history. It was the defining moment of the season. However, if you ask those around the program, they hope it’s not the ultimate defining moment as the Coyotes aim to accomplish even more in the playoffs on the road to Frisco.Who are the Border Patrol chaplains? And why does the agency need more of them now?The chase to catch Wayne Gretzky's total goals will have to wait. The Washington Capitals have revealed that captain and star Alexander Ovechkin will miss multiple weeks due to a fractured fibula. The #caps say Alex Ovechkin has a fracture to his left fibula and will miss four to six weeks. That likely means it'll be the longest injury-relayed layoff of his NHL career. Ovechkin injured his leg when he collided with 24-year-old forward Jack McBain from the Utah Hockey Club when the teams faced off on Monday. Ovechkin was in the middle of the ice and was set to pass when McBain skated right into his left leg, presumably at a very high rate of speed. The result of the injury saw Ovechkin fall to his knees, and the cameras caught him audibly screaming out in pain. Time appeared to stop as everyone awaited if the stalwart captain would climb to his feet and skate off to return to the ice. That was not the case, and it was revealed following the game that the Capitals star would be "week-to-week." Now, it appears the injury Ovechkin sustained is going to sideline him for at least four to six weeks. This will also be the longest time that Ovechkin will sit in the entirety of his career. Apart from being the lifeblood of the Capitals, everyone has been cheering Ovechkin on this season, simply due to his closing in on the most goals in the NHL . The record stands at 894, which is held by Wayne "The Great One" Gretzky. The record has stood since Gretzky played for the final time on April 18, 1999, as part of the New York Rangers. It has been 25 years, and no one has surpassed that record. However, that was until the Russian-born Ovechkin arrived on the scene. Ovechkin emerged as a star in the early 2000s, playing for the Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Super League. At age 16, he was already showcasing elite skills. Following the end of the holdout in 2005, Ovechkin started for the Capitals in the 2005-2006 season. Fast forward to 19 seasons later, the star winger is averaging around 50 goals a season. Ovechkin has especially been on a tear this season, securing a league-leading 15 goals in 18 games. He secured two goals against Utah and would have likely had a third if the leg collision had not occurred. Though there is no guarantee that Ovechkin will catch Gretzky in 2024, the way that he has been scoring all but signals he will snag the record this season. Now, everyone will have to wait to see if the Capitals captain will secure the record. For more on the NHL, head to Newsweek Sports .
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Celta Vigo gave 10-man Barcelona a shock by scoring two late goals and snatching a 2-2 draw at home in the Spanish league on Saturday. Barcelona was minutes away from a win to pad its league lead after Raphinha and Lewandowski had put Barcelona in control. But the game dramatically swung after Barcelona defensive midfielder Marc Casadó was sent off with a second booking in the 81st. Moments later Jules Koundé’s poor control of a ball in his area allowed Alfon González to pick his pocket and give the hosts hope in the 84th minute. Celta poured forward at Balaidos Stadium and Hugo Álvarez rifled in the 86th-minute equalizer with Barcelona unable to mark the extra man. ___ AP soccer:
Another day, another barking lie from Dutton and his brazen band of disinformation dealers, now regularly guest-starring on the public broadcaster. There is no stopping the runaway train of invention that is the Murdoch media, at least not without government intervention — and there appears to be no appetite within the Labor Party to go down that road again . But the ABC also continues to embrace Dutton’s outright racism, the ongoing deliberate lies about energy and the existence of a Coalition nuclear "plan”, plain old angry rants about the CSIRO and accusations of fueling antisemitism levelled against the Prime Minister. Anyone would think these things were perfectly reasonable — and therein lies the problem. Opposition leaders should be given the opportunity to offer alternative policies and critique the government of the day, of course. But when an opposition leader seeks only to divide, when their alternate policies are complete fabrications designed to create chaos, they should be called out, not platformed, presented as fact and promoted further. RAISING FALSE FLAGS This week, Peter Dutton declared that if elected PM he would not stand in front of the Aboriginal flag. This alone should have him denounced as the racist individual that he is and unfit to be PM. Earlier evidence of his outright racist deeds should have been presented alongside his latest diversionary tactic. Defaming Dutton and Co or calling a racist a racist? Managing editor Michelle Pini discusses defamatory statements versus inarguable facts in relation to Peter Dutton's hurt feelings over being called out as racist, among other high-profile litigation. Instead of stepping up, however, the national broadcaster emulated the Murdoch media frenzy, featuring Dutton on repeat declaring: "I'm very strongly of the belief that we are a country united under one flag, and if we're asking people to identify with different flags, no other country does that, and we are dividing our country unnecessarily. We should have respect for the Indigenous flag and the Torres Strait Islander flag, but they are not our national flags." Of course, the Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag were proclaimed flags of Australia in 1995 under section 5 of the Flags Act 1953 . And Australia is not the only country that displays more than one flag — several other countries do so, including members of the European Union, which display the EU flag alongside their national flags. Australia, however, is the only Western democracy that doesn’t have a Treaty with its Indigenous peoples. Was this pointed out in the ABC rolling coverage of Dutton's flag falsehoods? Was there any mention of the Flags Act ? Did any ABC presenter call out any aspect of Dutton’s bullshit or point out his history of racist deeds? As far as we know, only Laura Tinglehad the temerity to call it out. Increasingly, Tingle is the lone voice of reason in the chorus of underwhelming Murdoch-lite news presenters now favoured by the public broadcaster. 'ANTISEMITIC' UN RESOLUTIONS It is not antisemitic to vote with 157 other UN member states – including all but two of our allies – in favour of an end to the genocide in Palestine. Calling for an end to this is not "abandoning Israel", as Dutton claimed . Indeed, the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his crimes against humanity in Gaza. Synagogue fire fuels Dutton's appetite for political point-scoring Peter Dutton's comments after a recent fire ravaged a Melbourne synagogue imply Labor's stance on Gaza has left Australia 'less safe'. According to Dutton and co, however, this somehow makes Albanese an "enabler" of antisemitic hate crimes, such as the terrible Melbourne synagogueattack on 6 December. Yet his bizarre accusations are constantly aired on the ABC, often even led by Aunty’s journos . Interestingly, Muslim hate crimes, such as the recent arson attack on an Islamic school bus in Adelaide, barely rate a mention . NUCLEAR GASLIGHTING Dutton’s flag frenzy and antisemitic accusations are of course designed to take the pressure off the fact that he remains unable to provide any solid evidence in favour of or costings for his fabled nuclear policy. The Coalition’s nuclear energy policy – or lack of it – is, as we have discussed at length, not sustainable. This is why there are no detailed costings. And this is why Dutton repeatedly attacks the truthtellers such as the chief scientific authority in the land, the CSIRO, which has exposed his nuclear plans as not cheap, clean or fast . Dutton’s nuclear lights are out and no one’s home Dutton's alternative facts on nuclear energy demonstrate that the Coalition is no longer fit for purpose as a credible opposition, let alone a serious government contender. Michelle Pini reports. His party’s nuclear policy is simply a diversion, created with the sole purpose of sabotaging renewables so that we can keep on digging up coal ad infinitum , as decreed by the likes of Dutton’s number one fan, mining magnate Gina Rinehart and magnified on a daily basis by Murdoch media and co . Yet, hardly a day goes by when this outright disinformation isn’t echoed on the ABC. It’s no surprise, then, given the successful publicity created to date by all these falsehoods masquerading as facts, even from the national broadcaster, that the Liberal Party has again engaged Morrison’s gun disinformation team, creative agency Topham Guerin, to help win the next election using the same falsehoods and " deepfake technology ". As I A 's Alan Austin pointed out , analysis of its reportage demonstrates the ABC has, for some time, systematically pushed Dutton's Liberal Party agenda. Sadly, change has not yet appeared on the horizon. The ABC subtly and systematically pushes a Liberal Party agenda Typified by a recent article on Gladys Berejiklian's corrupt conduct, the ABC newsroom uses deceptive and nuanced tricks to advance the Liberal Party.
