Can the Tories learn from Trump?BOSTON — More suspected drone sightings in the eastern U.S. led to a temporary airspace shutdown at an Air Force base in Ohio and arrests near Boston’s Logan International Airport, as elected officials increased their push for action to identify and stop the unmanned flights. Drones flying around Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, forced base officials to close the airspace for about four hours late Friday into early Saturday, said Robert Purtiman, a base spokesperson. It is the first time drones have been spotted at the base, one of the largest in the world, and no sightings were reported since early Saturday, Purtiman said Monday. He would not say how many drones were flying in the area, adding that they ranged in size and that they did not impact any base facilities. In Boston, city police arrested two men accused of operating a drone “dangerously close” to Logan Airport on Saturday night. Authorities said an officer using drone monitoring technology detected the aircraft and the location of the operators. A third man who fled police remains at large. Authorities said the two men face trespassing charges. Get local news delivered to your inbox!

Being a successful investor requires just a few skills: knowing when to buy and knowing when to sell. Although it sounds simple, you'll have incredible returns if you're the best at both. There's one popular artificial intelligence (AI) stock that was a buy at the beginning of the year that has now moved into the sell category. That's Palantir ( PLTR 6.22% ) . Palantir has been an incredible success in 2024, with the stock price more than quadrupling. However, the stock has become disconnected from the business, and I think there's a high likelihood that it could come falling back down to earth in 2025. As a result, it's best that investors take their profits and run. Palantir's business is capitalizing on the AI arms race The unfortunate thing about Palantir's business and stock becoming disconnected is that it is doing incredibly well and will likely maintain that status quo throughout 2025 and beyond. Palantir's application-specific AI models aid their clients in decision-making and have found heavy usage in the commercial and government sectors. One of its newer products that has quickly emerged as one of its most popular is its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP). AIP allows its clients to build AI applications into their workflows rather than using it as a tool on the side. This allows businesses to control the data that gets plugged into these AI models rather than having it go to a third-party AI platform, which could present an issue when sensitive information that the government deals with is used. Since the AI arms race kicked off, Palantir's AI products have seen a surge in demand, which has translated into strong performance for the company. In Q3, Palantir's revenue rose 30% year over year to $726 million. U.S. clients spent more than their international counterparts, with U.S. commercial revenue rising 54% year over year to $179 million and U.S. government revenue rising 40% year over year to $320 million. Palantir is also solidly profitable, posting a profit margin of around 20% for the second straight quarter. PLTR Profit Margin (Quarterly) data by YCharts With just this information, it's understandable why Palantir has received a lot of investment interest. It's growing rapidly in an area that investors are focused on right now. Palantir is doing incredibly well as a business, and I predict strong results for 2025. The problem is that its stock has disconnected from these fundamental results. The stock and the business are disconnected As mentioned earlier, Palantir's stock is up by over 300%, yet its revenue growth is a tenth of that. As a result, the stock has become highly valued, trading at an unbelievable valuation. PLTR PS Ratio data by YCharts At 64.5 times sales , Palantir has eclipsed the highest level Nvidia traded at over the past three years (45 times sales). Despite significantly lower profit margins and far slower growth, it has done this. When Nvidia achieved that valuation, it tripled its revenue the following quarter. At Palantir's current growth rate (30%), it would take over four years to triple its revenue. No part of Palantir's valuation makes sense, which is unfortunate because the company is doing so well. Let's take a second to assess the absolute best-case scenario for Palantir. It would include these factors: Revenue growth accelerates to 40%. Profit margin rises from 20% to 30% to match software leader Adobe . It trades for 50 times trailing earnings. Effects of stock-based compensation are ignored (this is a terrible assumption, as Palantir's share count rose 3.5% this past year thanks to hefty stock-based compensation). If Palantir achieved these four items, the stock price would have to stay at its current level for over four years to achieve the 50 times trailing earnings valuation. All of these are extremely aggressive assumptions that likely won't come true, further illustrating how expensive Palantir's stock has become. As a result, I think there's a very high likelihood that Palantir's stock will crash sometime in 2025. There is just too much growth baked into the stock for its current growth levels, and investors will eventually decide to take profits en masse, which will cause the stock to struggle even if the business is doing well .

LOZANO, Associated Press HOUSTON (AP) — An elaborate parody appears to be behind an effort to resurrect Enron, the Houston-based energy company that exemplified the worst in American corporate fraud and greed after it went bankrupt in 2001. If its return is comedic, some former employees who lost everything in Enron’s collapse aren’t laughing. “It’s a pretty sick joke and it disparages the people that did work there. And why would you want to even bring it back up again?” said former Enron employee Diana Peters, who represented workers in the company’s bankruptcy proceedings. Here’s what to know about the history of Enron and the purported effort to bring it back. What happened at Enron? Once the nation’s seventh-largest company, Enron filed for bankruptcy protection on Dec. 2, 2001, after years of accounting tricks could no longer hide billions of dollars in debt or make failing ventures appear profitable. The energy company’s collapse put more than 5,000 people out of work, wiped out more than $2 billion in employee pensions and rendered $60 billion in Enron stock worthless. Its aftershocks were felt throughout the energy sector. Twenty-four Enron executives , including former CEO Jeffrey Skilling , were eventually convicted for their roles in the fraud. Enron founder Ken Lay’s convictions were vacated after he died of heart disease following his 2006 trial. Is Enron coming back? On Monday — the 23rd anniversary of the bankruptcy filing — a company representing itself as Enron announced in a news release that it was relaunching as a “company dedicated to solving the global energy crisis.” It also posted a video on social media, advertised on at least one Houston billboard and a took out a full-page ad in the Houston Chronicle In the minute-long video that was full of generic corporate jargon, the company talks about “growth” and “rebirth.” It ends with the words, “We’re back. Can we talk?” Enron’s new website features a company store, where various items featuring the brand’s tilted “E” logo are for sale, including a $118 hoodie. In an email, company spokesperson Will Chabot said the new Enron was not doing any interviews yet, but that “We’ll have more to share soon.” Signs point to the comeback being a joke. In the “terms of use and conditions of sale” on the company’s website, it says “the information on the website about Enron is First Amendment protected parody, represents performance art, and is for entertainment purposes only.” Documents filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office show that College Company, an Arkansas-based LLC, owns the Enron trademark. The co-founder of College Company is Connor Gaydos, who helped create a joke conspiracy theory that claims all birds are actually surveillance drones for the government. What do former Enron employees think of the company’s return? Peters said that since learning about the “relaunch” of Enron, she has spoken with several other former employees and they are also upset by it. She said the apparent stunt was “in poor taste.” “If it’s a joke, it’s rude, extremely rude. And I hope that they realize it and apologize to all of the Enron employees,” Peters said. Peters, who is 74 years old, said she is still working in information technology because “I lost everything in Enron, and so my Social Security doesn’t always take care of things I need done.” “Enron’s downfall taught us critical lessons about corporate ethics, accountability, and the consequences of unchecked ambition. Enron’s legacy was the employees in the trenches. Leave Enron buried,” she said. Follow Juan A. Members of the Larkin family came together to present the club with a set of three hurls, representing the unique achievement of three generations of the same family in winning senior All-Ireland hurling titles. Lining out in the famed black and amber, Paddy Larkin won four All-Irelands in 1932, 1933, 1935 and 1939. His son Phil ‘Fan’ won titles in 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1979. Fan’s son Philip won three - capturing the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2000, 2002 and 2003. Introduced by club chairman, Aodán Ó Ruairc, Michael Moore outlined the significance of this achievement by the Larkin family and acknowledged the contribution of the Larkin family to Kilkenny and James Stephens hurling over that 71 year timespan. In Hollywood, a land known for marquees and famous signs, there's probably no sign that's more on the nose than the store Just Food For Dogs. There, four-legged customers sample today's offerings, while their owners stock up on the food. Sarah Rector and her French bulldog, Lulu, are buying her regular order, including beef with russet potato, and venison with squash. Rector says she feels better buying the store's food for Lulu rather than commercial dog food: "I just know that she's getting the best possible, like, ingredients and health and overall wellness." She and her husband don't have children, yet, but they have another French bulldog, "so I feel like we have kids." It's tempting to write this off as a trendy L.A. fad, but Just Food For Dogs president Carey Tischler says this store is here because of a permanent shift in the roughly $50 billion U.S. pet food industry. "The last year of research shows that 82% of families think of pets as family, or as children, and that's up significantly," he said. Joe Ovalle is Just Food's guest experience manager. He says all of their pet food is approved by the USDA for human consumption. "It is human-grade food, something you and I could eat," he said. He sampled one of their recipes, for fish and sweet potato. "Oh my God, it's like ceviche," he smiled. It may seem a bit indulgent, and can cost double the price of Kibbles, but some say that feeding our dogs natural food is what we should have been doing all along – and making it yourself can cost the same as buying food from the store. "It's about going back to what is biologically appropriate, that they ate for tens of thousands of years," said pet nutritionist Christine Filardi. "They ate prey animals and table scraps. So, I'm just educating people on how to go back to what they ate for tens of thousands of years prior to commercial pet food." Filardi is author of "Home Cooking For Your Dog," a cookbook offering recipes with what she says are the three necessities: animal protein, a carb, and a veggie, as well as a few extravagant treats, like her bacon and cream cheese muffins. Filardi says whether it's store-bought or home-cooked fresh food, the results are the same: well-fed animals live longer, have cheaper vet bills, and are happier ... which makes the owners happy, too. "They take such good care of us," she said. "We should take good care of them." LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Austin Seibert choked back tears taking responsibility for missing the extra point that would have tied the score in the final minute. Jeremy Reaves choked back tears blaming himself for a missed assignment that led to a kickoff return touchdown. And John Bates choked back tears talking about moving forward from his costly fumble. All of those late mistakes contributed to the Washington Commanders' third consecutive loss , 34-26 to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in a game that was wholly unremarkable until fourth quarter chaos. The teams combined to score 31 points in the final four minutes, the most in an NFL game in more than a decade, and the Commanders (7-5) came out on the wrong end of it in a defeat that further endangers their playoff chances. “Any time you lose a game or you lose a game in that type of fashion, it’s very difficult and it’s tough, but it never comes down to one play,” rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels said. “There’s plays throughout the game where little things add up to big things.” There were a lot of little things. After Bates fumbled, the Cowboys (4-7) took an 11-point lead and the Commanders made a 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to three, Dallas' KaVonte Turpin returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. “I didn’t make the play when it was there to make, and it cost us,” said Reaves, one of the league’s top special teams players and the All-Pro pick for that two seasons ago. “No excuse, man. I’ve made that play 100 times, and I didn’t make it today and it cost us the game. It’s unacceptable. It’s solely on me. It’s going to sting for a while. It’s going to hurt.” After Seibert made a 51-yard field goal, Daniels connected with Terry McLaurin on an 86-yard TD that made it 27-26 with 21 seconds left. Coach Dan Quinn said no thought was given to going for 2 in that situation. Seibert, who missed the past two games with a right hip injury, was wide left on the point-after attempt. “I just wasn’t striking it well,” said Seibert, who added he felt fine and did not blame a low snap for his miss. "It didn’t make a difference at all. It was on me.” Juanyeh Thomas returned the onside kick immediately after 43 yards for a touchdown to put Dallas up eight with 14 seconds left. The 31 combined points are the second most in a game since at least 2000, behind only Minnesota and Baltimore's 36 in their game Dec. 8, 2013. Cowboys-Commanders was the first game in the Super Bowl era to have two missed extra points, two kickoff return touchdowns and a blocked punt. “We got down to the end there and it was a game-situational extravaganza,” Dallas coach Mike McCarthy said. “It was like Yahtzee. Everything was in there." Story continues below video While Washington's skid continued, the Cowboys ended their losing streak at five thanks to strong play from QB Cooper Rush, a defense that forced two turnovers and, of course, special teams success. Rush was 24 of 32 for 247 yards and TD passes to Jalen Tolbert and Luke Schoonmaker. “Lot of games left,” Rush said. “We’re sitting at 4-7. This is why you play them.” The Commanders have some soul-searching to do after losing as a 10 1/2-point favorite in the meeting of NFC East rivals and doing so in a way that left players so emotional. “The crazy games, I know they feel a little bit better whenever you win them,” punter and holder Tress Way said. “But that’s a tough pill to swallow.” Cowboys: LG Tyler Smith was inactive with ankle and knee injuries. ... RG Zack Martin (ankle), CB Trevon Diggs (groin/knee) and TE Jake Ferguson (concussion) were ruled out prior to game day and did not travel for the game. Commanders: RB Austin Ekeler was concussed on a kickoff return in the final seconds and taken to a hospital for further evaluation. ... RB Brian Robinson Jr. left with an ankle injury in the first half, returned and then left again. ... RT Andrew Wylie was concussed in the third quarter and did not return. ... C Tyler Biadasz was evaluated for a concussion in the fourth. ... CB Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) missed a third consecutive game since being acquired at the trade deadline from New Orleans. Cowboys: Host the New York Giants on Thursday in the traditional Thanksgiving Day game in Dallas. Commanders: Host the Tennessee Titans next Sunday in Washington’s final game before its late bye week. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nflBANGKOK — China announced Tuesday it is banning exports to the United States of gallium, germanium, antimony and other key high-tech materials with potential military applications, as a general principle, lashing back at U.S. limits on semiconductor-related exports. The Chinese Commerce Ministry announced the move after the Washington expanded its list of Chinese companies subject to export controls on computer chip-making equipment, software and high-bandwidth memory chips. Such chips are needed for advanced applications. The ratcheting up of trade restrictions comes as President-elect Donald Trump has been threatening to sharply raise tariffs on imports from China and other countries, potentially intensifying simmering tensions over trade and technology. China’s Foreign Ministry also issued a vehement reproof. “China has lodged stern protests with the U.S. for its update of the semiconductor export control measures, sanctions against Chinese companies, and malicious suppression of China’s technological progress,” Lin Jian, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said in a routine briefing Tuesday. “I want to reiterate that China firmly opposes the U.S. overstretching the concept of national security, abuse of export control measures, and illegal unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction against Chinese companies,” Lin said. China said in July 2023 it would require exporters to apply for licenses to send to the U.S. the strategically important materials such as gallium and germanium. In August, the Chinese Commerce Ministry said it would restrict exports of antimony , which is used in a wide range of products from batteries to weapons, and impose tighter controls on exports of graphite. Such minerals are considered critical for national security. China is a major producer of antimony, which is used in flame retardants, batteries, night-vision goggles and nuclear weapon production, according to a 2021 U.S. International Trade Commission report. The limits announced by Beijing on Tuesday also include exports of super-hard materials, such as diamonds and other synthetic materials that are not compressible and extremely dense. They are used in many industrial areas such as cutting tools, disc brakes and protective coatings. The licensing requirements that China announced in August also covered smelting and separation technology and machinery and other items related to such super-hard materials. China is the biggest global source of gallium and germanium, which are produced in small amounts but are needed to make computer chips for mobile phones, cars and other products, as well as solar panels and military technology. After the U.S. side announced it was adding 140 companies to a so-called “entity list” subject to strict export controls, China’s Commerce Ministry protested and said it would act to protect China’s “rights and interests.” Nearly all of the companies affected by Washington’s latest trade restrictions are based in China, though some are Chinese-owned businesses in Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Both governments say their respective export controls are needed for national security. China’s government has been frustrated by U.S. curbs on access to advanced processor chips and other technology on security grounds but had been cautious in retaliating, possibly to avoid disrupting China’s fledgling developers of chips, artificial intelligence and other technology. Various Chinese industry associations issued statements protesting the U.S. move to limit access to advanced chip-making technology. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said it opposed using national security as a grounds for export controls, “abuse of export control measures, and the malicious blockade and suppression of China.” “Such behavior seriously violates the laws of the market economy and the principle of fair competition, undermines the international economic and trade order, disrupts the stability of the global industrial chain, and ultimately harms the interests of all countries,” it said in a statement. The China Semiconductor Industry Association issued a similar statement, adding that such restrictions were disrupting supply chains and inflating costs for American companies. “U.S. chip products are no longer safe and reliable. China’s related industries will have to be cautious in purchasing U.S. chips,” it said. The U.S. gets about half its supply of both gallium and germanium metals directly from China, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. China exported about 23 metric tons (25 tons) of gallium in 2022 and produces about 600 metric tons (660 tons) of germanium per year. The U.S. has deposits of such minerals but has not been mining them, though some projects underway are exploring ways to tap those resources. The export restrictions have had a mixed impact on prices for those critical minerals, with the price of antimony more than doubling this year to over $25,000 per ton. Prices for gallium, germanium and graphite also have mostly risen. We invite you to add your comments. We encourage a thoughtful exchange of ideas and information on this website. Tips for Beginners on How to Win at the Game There are some tips for beginners that increase the chances of winning at Aviator game: Do not forget that only adult users can play this online crash game. Aviator Strategies There are a few strategies that won’t guarantee a hundred per cent win, but will help increase your chances of success: Remember that Aviator is a random game that never guarantees high winnings. The player’s probability of success here depends largely on luck, as the mechanism is based on the random number generator HSC. However, you can properly prepare for the game by learning the above mentioned tricks. Aviator game is available only at legal online casinos. If you want to test the best gaming strategies, choose a reliable platform. When it comes to safety and randomness, Aviator utilises Provability Fair technology. This is a patented algorithm based on technology that ensures 100% randomness of winnings. It takes advantage of the blockchain to achieve completely random results. Conclusion Success in Aviator is a balance between strategy, a sense of intuition, and sometimes just the mood of fate. Strategies in this online crash game are no guarantee of victory. The multiplier is influenced by provably fair game technology, which ensures that each round is fair, but also unpredictable. Consequently, strategies help in decision making but cannot be a guarantee of an exact result. The value of the multiplier in each round is random, so it is difficult to predict what the winnings will be in the next round. In their latest motion to dismiss Donald Trump ‘s hush money conviction, his attorneys are citing President Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter. “President Biden argued that ‘raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice,'” Trump’s legal team wrote in a filing today. “These comments amounted to an extraordinary condemnation of Biden’s own DOJ. This is the same DOJ that coordinated and oversaw the politically motivated election interference witch hunts targeting President Trump by disgraced Special Counsel Jack Smith, the other biased prosecutors in Smith’s special counsel’s office, and others. This is the same DOJ that sent Matthew Colangelo to DA Bragg to help unfairly target President Trump in this empty and lawless case.” Read the Trump motion to dismiss . Trump was convicted earlier year of 34 New York state felony counts related to hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels. Judge Juan Merchan has postponed Trump’s sentencing hearing indefinitely. Last week, Smith, the special counsel who brought federal charges against Trump over the handling of classified documents and his attempts to remain in power after the 2020 election, asked for a dismissal of the cases given the former president’s pending return to the White House. Both motions for dismissal were granted. Biden pardoned his son Hunter Biden on Sunday, just as he was to be sentenced later this month on gun and tax charges, stemming from conduct when the younger Biden was in the throes of addiction. In a statement he issued after issuing the pardon, Biden said that his son was “singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong.” Critics of Biden’s pardon, including some Democrats, predicted that it would embolden Trump to abuse the president’s pardoning authority, including for defendants involved in the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Trump has claimed that the Justice Department under Biden has been weaponized against him, even though the DOJ has also pursued cases against a number of Democrats including Hunter Biden. In their latest motion, Trump’s attorneys argue that Biden’s argument about his son — that his conviction was politically motivated — mirror the president-elect’s claims about his own prosecution. In the motion to dismiss, Trump’s attorneys argued that presidential immunity was an “unavoidable ‘legal impediment’ to further proceedings in” the case. “Therefore, the indictment must be dismissed, and the jury’s verdicts must be vacated,” they wrote.
