8k8 demo By LINDSEY BAHR Do you have a someone in your life who plays Vulture’s Cinematrix game every morning? Or maybe they have the kitchen television turned to Turner Classic Movies all day and make a point of organizing Oscar polls at work? Hate to break it to you: They might be a hard-to-please cinephile. But while you might not want to get into a winless debate over the “Juror No. 2” release or the merits of “Megalopolis” with said person, they don’t have to be hard to buy gifts for. The Associated Press has gathered up some of the best items out there to keep any movie lover stylish and informed. “Interstellar” 4K UHD While Christopher Nolan dreams up his next film, fans can tide themselves over by revisiting his modern classic “Interstellar,” which will be back in IMAX theaters on the weekend of Dec. 6, followed by the home release of a new collector’s edition on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray ($59.95). A third disc in the set, available Dec. 10, contains more than two hours of bonus content, like a never-before-seen storyboard sequence, and new interviews with Nolan, producer Emma Thomas and famous fans Peter Jackson and Denis Villeneuve . A biography of Elaine May Elaine May does not give interviews anymore. But thankfully that didn’t deter writer Carrie Courogen, who did a remarkable job stitching together the life of one of our culture’s most fascinating, and prickly, talents. “Miss May Does Not Exist” is full of delightful anecdotes about the sharp and satirical comedian who gained fame as one half of Nichols and May and went on to direct films like “The Heartbreak Kid” and “Mikey and Nicky.” Courogen writes about May’s successes, flops and her legendary scuffles with the Hollywood establishment. It’s a vital companion to Mark Harris’ biography of Mike Nichols . Macmillan. $30. A “Matrix” hoodie The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has an exclusive new “Matrix” sweatshirt for sale in conjunction with its Cyberpunk exhibition. Brain Dead Studios designed and created several items, including the black hoodie ($140), a white rabbit tee ($54) and a pint glass ($18). An Academy Museum exhibition catalog If you can’t make it to Los Angeles to check out the “Color in Motion” exhibit for yourself, the Academy Museum also has a beautiful new companion book for sale ($55) charting the development of color technology in film and its impact. It includes photos from films like “The Red Shoes,” “Vertigo,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” and images of rare prints from the silent era. The Academy Museum Store is having a sale (20% off everything) from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2. The Metrograph magazine Film magazines may be an endangered species, but print is not dead at The Metrograph . Manhattan’s coolest movie theater is starting a biannual print publication “for cinephiles and cultural connoisseurs alike.” The first issue’s cover art is by cinematographer Ed Lachman (“Carol”), and contributors include the likes of Daniel Clowes, Ari Aster, Steve Martin and Simon Rex. There’s also a conversation with Clint Eastwood. It’s currently available for pre-order and will be in bookstores Dec. 10 for $25 ($15 for Metrograph members). Director style This is not a book about filmmaking styles, camera angles and leadership choices. It’s literally about what directors wear. “How Directors Dress: On Set, in the Edit, and Down the Red Carpet” ($40) has over 200 archival photos of filmmakers in action: Spike Lee in his basketball caps, Sofia Coppola in her Charvet button-ups, Steven Spielberg’s denim on denim and many more. With a forward by the always elegant Joanna Hogg and writing from some of the top fashion journalists, it’s a beautiful look at how filmmakers really dress for work — and might even be a source of inspiration.Singh won’t support Conservative non-confidence motion that uses his own words

Meta on Tuesday said fears that artificial intelligence would unleash a torrent of misinformation to deceive voters around the world did not come true as elections played out around the world this year. Defenses against deceptive influence campaigns at the networking giant's platform held firm, with no evidence that such coordinated efforts got much attention online, Meta president of global affairs Nick Clegg told reporters. "I don't think the use of generative AI was a particularly effective tool for them to evade our trip wires," Clegg said of those behind coordinated disinformation campaigns. "The delta between what was expected and what appeared is quite significant." Meta says that most of the cover influence operations it has disrupted in recent years were carried out by actors from Russia, Iran and China. Meta has no intent of lowering its guard, however, since generative AI tools are expected to become more sophisticated and more prevalent. Clegg referred to 2024 as the biggest election year ever, with some 2 billion people estimated to have gone to the polls in scores of countries around the world. "People were understandably concerned about the potential impact that generative AI would have on elections during the course of this year," Clegg said during a briefing with journalists. "There were all sorts of warnings about the potential risks of things like widespread deep fakes and AI enabled disinformation campaigns." Preventing the malicious use of generative AI in elections became an industry-wide effort, according to Clegg. Clegg said he was not privy to whether Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg and president-elect Donald Trump discussed the tech platform's content moderation policies, when Zuckerberg was invited to Trump's Florida resort last week. Trump has been critical of Meta, accusing the platform of censoring politically conservative viewpoints. "Mark is very keen to play an active role in the debates that any administration needs to have about maintaining America's leadership in the technological sphere...and particularly the pivotal role that AI will play in that area," Clegg said. Clegg added that hindsight has led Meta to conclude that it "overdid" content moderation during the Covid-19 pandemic and that the tech company is "redoubling" efforts to improve the precision with which it targets content for removal based on its policies. "Our content rules evolve and change all the time," Clegg said. "We will definitely continue to work on all of that, mindful of the fact that we're never going to get it perfectly right and to everybody's satisfaction."Buford High School faces Lowndes High School in the second round of the GHSA playoffs on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. ET in Buford, Georgia. LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Tyrese Hunter scored 17 of his 26 points after halftime to lead Memphis to a 99-97 overtime win against two-time defending national champion and second-ranked UConn on Monday in the first round of the Maui Invitational . Hunter shot 7 of 10 from 3-point range for the Tigers (5-0), who were 12 of 22 from beyond at the arc as a team. PJ Haggerty had 22 points and five assists, Colby Rogers had 19 points and Dain Dainja scored 14. Tarris Reed Jr. had 22 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the Huskies (4-1). Alex Karaban had 19 points and six assists, and Jaylin Stewart scored 16. Memphis led by as many as 13 with about four minutes left in regulation, but UConn chipped away and eventually tied it on Solo Ball’s 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining. Memphis: The Tigers ranked second nationally in field goal percentage going into the game and shot it at a 54.7% clip. UConn: The Huskies saw their string of 17 consecutive wins dating back to February come to an end. The teams were tied at 92 with less than a minute remaining in overtime when UConn coach Dan Hurley was assessed a technical foul for his displeasure with an over-the-back call against Liam McNeeley. PJ Carter hit four straight free throws — two for the tech and the other pair for the personal foul — to give Memphis a 96-92 lead with 40.3 seconds to play. UConn had three players foul out. Memphis attempted 40 free throws and made 29 of them. Memphis will play the winner of Colorado-Michigan State on Tuesday in the second round of the invitational. UConn will play the loser of that game in the consolation bracket. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . According to ground tests, this novel technology boosts the efficiency of afterburning to 99 per cent, matching the fuel efficiency of long-distance cruising conditions. It also reduces engine vibration by 80 per cent under maximum operational loads, thereby minimising the risk of aircraft damage. To address these challenges, the team of researchers led by engineer Wang Shiqi invented an innovative fuel nozzle. Pulsed fuel travels along a Z-shaped path within the nozzle and is ejected at different angles. This design ensures that fuel droplets form a fan shape, enabling better mixing with air.

President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers formally asked a judge Monday to throw out his hush money criminal conviction, arguing continuing the case would present unconstitutional “disruptions to the institution of the Presidency.“ File video above: Former President Donald Trump found guilty in hush money trial In a filing made public Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers told Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan that dismissal is warranted because of the “overwhelming national mandate granted to him by the American people on November 5, 2024.” “Wrongly continuing proceedings in this failed lawfare case disrupts President Trump’s transition efforts,” the attorneys continued, before citing the “overwhelming national mandate granted to him by the American people on November 5, 2024.” They also cited President Joe Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of tax and gun charges. “President Biden asserted that his son was ‘selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,’ and ‘treated differently,’" Trump’s legal team wrote. The Manhattan district attorney, they claimed, had engaged in the type of political theater "that President Biden condemned.” Prosecutors will have until Dec. 9 to respond. They have said they will fight any efforts to dismiss the case but have indicated a willingness to delay the sentencing until after Trump’s second term ends in 2029. In their filing Monday, Trump's attorneys dismissed the idea of holding off sentencing until Trump is out of office as a “ridiculous suggestion.” Following Trump’s election victory last month, Merchan halted proceedings and indefinitely postponed his sentencing , previously scheduled for late November, to allow the defense and prosecution to weigh in on the future of the case. He also delayed a decision on Trump’s prior bid to dismiss the case on immunity grounds. Trump has been fighting for months to reverse his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels to suppress her claim that they had sex a decade earlier. He says they did not and denies any wrongdoing. Taking a swipe at Bragg and New York City, as Trump often did throughout the trial, the filing argues that dismissal would also benefit the public by giving him and “the numerous prosecutors assigned to this case a renewed opportunity to put an end to deteriorating conditions in the City and to protect its residents from violent crime.” Clearing Trump, the lawyers added, would also allow him to “to devote all of his energy to protecting the Nation.” The defense filing was signed by Trump lawyers Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who represented Trump during the trial and have since been selected by the president-elect to fill senior roles at the Justice Department. A dismissal would erase Trump’s historic conviction, sparing him the cloud of a criminal record and possible prison sentence. Trump is the first former president to be convicted of a crime and the first convicted criminal to be elected to the office. Trump takes office Jan. 20 . Merchan hasn’t set a timetable for a decision. A dismissal would erase Trump’s historic conviction, sparing him the cloud of a criminal record and possible prison sentence. Trump is the first former president to be convicted of a crime and the first convicted criminal to be elected to the office. Merchan could also decide to uphold the verdict and proceed to sentencing, delay the case until Trump leaves office, wait until a federal appeals court rules on Trump’s parallel effort to get the case moved out of state court or choose some other option. Prosecutors had cast the payout as part of a Trump-driven effort to keep voters from hearing salacious stories about him. Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen paid Daniels. Trump later reimbursed him, and Trump’s company logged the reimbursements as legal expenses — concealing what they really were, prosecutors alleged. Trump has pledged to appeal the verdict if the case is not dismissed. He and his lawyers said the payments to Cohen were properly categorized as legal expenses for legal work. A month after the verdict, the Supreme Court ruled that ex-presidents can’t be prosecuted for official acts — things they did in the course of running the country — and that prosecutors can’t cite those actions to bolster a case centered on purely personal, unofficial conduct. Trump’s lawyers cited the ruling to argue that the hush money jury got some improper evidence, such as Trump’s presidential financial disclosure form, testimony from some White House aides and social media posts made during his first term. Prosecutors disagreed and said the evidence in question was only “a sliver” of their case. If the verdict stands and the case proceeds to sentencing, Trump’s punishments would range from a fine to probation to up to four years in prison — but it’s unlikely he’d spend any time behind bars for a first-time conviction involving charges in the lowest tier of felonies. Because it is a state case, Trump would not be able to pardon himself once he returns to office. Presidential pardons apply only to federal crimes.Imagion Biosystems to use funds from $3m capital raise to advance MagSense platform technology Through MagSense, Imagion aims to revolutionise cancer diagnosis by introducing molecular imaging to MRI The company is pursuing initial indication in HER2+ breast cancer staging, with pipeline candidates for prostate and ovarian cancers Special Report: Imagion Biosystems will use funds from its recent $3m capital raising to advance its revolutionary cancer-diagnosis MagSense platform towards commercialisation. Imagion Biosystems’ (ASX:IBX) chief business officer Ward Detwiler said IBX’s proceeds from the capital raise would help achieve key milestones in 2025, including prioritising phase II clinical studies of MagSense in its first indication of HER2+ breast cancer and advancing two additional pipeline products in prostate and ovarian cancers. It’s a well-known fact, backed up by the World Health Organization , that cancer is a leading cause of death globally. However, cancer mortality is reduced when cases are detected and treated early including through early diagnosis and screening programs. Detwiler said MagSense improved on current techniques for cancer diagnosis such as X-Rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasounds and positron emission tomography (PET) by providing a more specific and personalised approach. The MagSense imaging platform involves the use of iron oxide nanoparticles labelled with cancer-specific targeting antibodies, which can then be imaged with the widely available MRI. Imagion’s lead imaging agent is targeting diagnosis of metastatic HER2+ breast cancer, a form cancer known to be highly aggressive. “This study not only advances us one step closer to bringing MagSense to a large patient population in need, but also acts as a proof of concept which allows us to address a range of other cancers.” Positive phase I study The company has completed a phase I study (IBI010103), involving 13 HER2+ breast cancer patients at four Australian sites. The results of that study were released in December 2023, which included: The molecularly targeted MRI contrast agent MSH2IA (MagSense HER2 Imaging agent) was safe and well tolerated, with no adverse or serious adverse events An independent panel of radiologists confirmed the detectable magnetic signature The MagSense imaging agent could potentially reduce the need for lymph node biopsies With funding secured, Imagion will progress with an investigational new drug application to the US FDA for a multi-site phase II study for HER2+ breast cancer in mid-2025. “We are bringing something that is so much more powerful than the current standard of care allowing more accurate and timely patient diagnosis leading to personalised and appropriate treatments,” Ward said. Could replace need for biopsy Imagion’s newly appointed medical advisor Dr Susan Harvey, a breast imaging radiologist by training, said breast cancer was typically diagnosed using ultrasound, mammography and biopsy. Harvey recently retired as vice president of medical affairs at Hologic, a world-leader in mammography and women’s health. She previously served as director of breast imaging at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is co-founder of the non-profit organisation Cure Women’s Cancer . Harvey said these tools are effective, yet not specific, so false positives and false negatives occur. “MagSense brings precision and specificity to breast cancer imaging,” she said. “The technology has the promise of fewer false alarms and fewer overlooked cancers. “Like a pregnancy test that is pink or blue, the MagSense technology could provide an accurate yes or no answer to MRI as to whether cancer is present, and thereby enable a more personalised treatment the woman will receive. “This innovative tool will transform cancer detection and care, starting with HER2+ breast cancer.” Potential to target other cancers Following the capital raise, the company will be ready to recommence the MagSense platform for clinical development in HER2+ breast cancer, and advance other pipeline programs for prostate and ovarian cancers. “The underlying technology is extendable to any type of cancer for which we have a targeting ligand,” said Detwiler. “We already have products in the pipeline for HER2+ breast, prostate and ovarian cancers, representing over 7 million patients per year in the US market alone. Detwiler said expanding to other types of cancer, such as pancreatic, lung, or any other cancer with a known biomarker could follow the same clinical development pathway. “This will fundamentally change how MRI is used in cancer detection, expanding access and improving outcomes for millions of patients globally,” he said. OTTAWA - NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he won’t play Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s games by voting to bring down the government on an upcoming non-confidence motion. The Conservatives plan to introduce a motion that quotes Singh’s own criticism of the Liberals, and asks the House of Commons to declare that it agrees with Singh and has no confidence in the government. The motion is expected to be introduced on Thursday and the debate and vote are set for Monday. Singh says he is not going to vote non-confidence and trigger an election when he believes Poilievre would cut programs the NDP fought for, like dental care and pharmacare. The non-confidence vote was scheduled after Speaker Greg Fergus intervened to pause a filibuster on a privilege debate about a green technology fund. The Conservatives have said they would only end that debate if the NDP agree to topple the government or if the Liberals turn over unredacted documents at the centre of the parliamentary gridlock. This result extends Pep Guardiola’s winless run to six matches, the worst streak of his managerial career. City appeared to be in full control when Erling Haaland struck twice, either side of Ilkay Gundogan’s deflected volley. The home side dominated for most of the match, with Feyenoord offering little resistance until the final 15 minutes. Guardiola even introduced Kevin De Bruyne and youngsters James McAtee and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, seemingly confident the game was sealed. But Feyenoord fought back. Anis Hadj Moussa punished a Josko Gvardiol error to pull one back. Substitute Santiago Gimenez then made it 3-2 with a close-range finish, before David Hancko stunned the Etihad with a late equaliser. Defensive lapses and Ederson’s poor showing left City reeling. The draw halts a five-game losing streak but feels like a defeat. City now sit 15th in the Champions League table, with their form raising serious concerns. A trip to Anfield looms on Sunday, where defeat could widen the gap to the league leaders. Guardiola and his side are now staring at a genuine crisis. The victory solidified their place in the top eight and eased concerns after a recent dip in form. Though it took 65 minutes to settle into a comfortable lead, Hansi Flick’s side showcased their dominance and controlled the match throughout. The game started brightly for Barça, who took the lead after just ten minutes. Robert Lewandowski calmly converted from the penalty spot following a foul by Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot, marking his 100th Champions League goal. The hosts dictated the tempo, pressing high and recovering possession quickly, but struggled with their decision-making in the final third. Despite creating several chances, they couldn’t add to their lead before the break, with Brest’s defence and Bizot making crucial interventions. In the second half, Barcelona continued to dominate possession and create opportunities but found Brest difficult to break down. Dani Olmo came close, only to see his effort cleared off the line. Persistence paid off on 65 minutes when Gerard Martín’s pinpoint pass found Olmo, who evaded defenders and slotted home to double the advantage. Barça remained in control and sealed the win in stoppage time. Alejandro Balde delivered a perfect assist for Lewandowski, who finished with style to complete his brace. While the scoreline could have been more emphatic given their dominance, this comprehensive performance takes Barcelona a step closer to the Champions League Round of 16. Vincent Kompany’s side earned a vital three points thanks to Kim Min-jae’s first-half header, moving them closer to a top-eight finish while delivering a blow to PSG’s chances. Kompany fielded a strong XI featuring Manuel Neuer, Raphael Guerreiro, Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, and Alphonso Davies in defence; Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in midfield; and Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, and Harry Kane in attack. The opening minutes saw Bayern miss a golden chance as Musiala’s close-range effort was saved, while PSG immediately countered but failed to capitalise through Ousmane Dembele. Both sides exchanged half-chances, with Coman narrowly missing after a brilliant solo run and PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery firing wide from a promising position. The breakthrough came just after the half-hour mark when Kim Min-jae rose highest to head home following a scrambled PSG clearance from a corner. Bayern nearly doubled their lead moments later, but Coman’s audacious lob bounced onto the roof of the net. As the half concluded, Leroy Sane forced a save from Gianluigi Donnarumma, with Bayern heading into the break one goal up. The second half started with drama as PSG’s Dembele received a second yellow card for a foul on Davies, reducing the French champions to 10 men. Despite the numerical advantage, Bayern found PSG difficult to break down and missed opportunities to extend their lead. Musiala struck the post after a superb solo effort, while substitute Michael Olise came close immediately after his introduction but couldn’t find the finish. In the dying moments, Serge Gnabry stretched for a Thomas Muller cross but failed to convert, though it mattered little as Bayern secured the win. The result puts them in 11th place, just a point off the top eight, with a favourable schedule remaining. This defeat ends PSG’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages. Inter Milan 1-0 RB Leipzig ANOTHER BIG WIN 🖤💙 #ForzaInter #InterRBL #UCL pic.twitter.com/4ttb7pWpNQ — Inter ⭐⭐ (@Inter_en) November 26, 2024 Inter Milan edged past RB Leipzig 1-0 in their Champions League clash on Tuesday, thanks to an own goal by Castello Lukeba. The narrow victory at the San Siro sees the Italian champions move to the top of the standings, remaining unbeaten in the league phase. The decisive moment came in the 27th minute when Federico Dimarco’s dangerous free kick caused havoc in Leipzig’s defence, forcing Lukeba to turn the ball into his net inadvertently. Inter maintained control for most of the match, creating a few chances to double their lead, but failed to capitalise. Leipzig’s struggles were evident as they offered little going forward, extending their winless run to five matches in the competition. The German side remains rooted at the bottom of the table with no points, facing an early exit. Inter’s win takes them to 13 points, one ahead of Barcelona, who defeated Brest 3-0. Liverpool and Real Madrid, set to face off on Wednesday, will look to challenge the top positions. With one match remaining, Inter are firmly in control of their destiny and edging closer to securing a top-eight finish. Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 RB Salzburg Was. Für. Ein. Florian Wirtz starred with a brace, and Xabi Alonso’s side made light work of their Austrian opponents at the BayArena. The home side stormed into an early lead. Wirtz opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the eighth minute after Samson Baidoo’s handball, and Alejandro Grimaldo doubled the advantage three minutes later with a superb free kick. Wirtz added his second just before the half-hour mark, weaving through Salzburg’s defence to slot home. After the break, Leverkusen maintained their intensity. Patrik Schick made it 4-0 midway through the second half, and Aleix Garcia completed the rout with a well-taken goal in the 72nd minute. Salzburg’s goalkeeper Alexander Schlager made several crucial saves to prevent an even heavier defeat. The win lifts Leverkusen to 10 points in the standings, putting them back on track for a top-eight finish. Meanwhile, Salzburg remain stuck on three points, having suffered their fourth loss in five games. Leverkusen’s attacking fluidity and defensive solidity will provide a massive boost as they prepare for their final league-phase fixtures. Sporting 1-5 Arsenal Putting on a show at Sporting 🌟 pic.twitter.com/Yi9MgRZEkl — Arsenal (@Arsenal) November 26, 2024 Arsenal delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over Sporting CP at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, making a bold statement in their Champions League campaign. The win propels the Gunners into the top eight of the league phase, signalling a return to their dominant form. From the outset, Arsenal overwhelmed the Portuguese champions. Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 7th minute, capitalising on a superb cross from Jurrien Timber, who was excellent throughout. Kai Havertz doubled the lead with a simple finish after Bukayo Saka’s clever assist. Gabriel Magalhaes made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time, converting a well-rehearsed corner that left Sporting stunned. Despite a strong response from Sporting early in the second half, including Gonçalo Inacio’s goal from a corner, Arsenal regained control. Martin Odegaard’s relentless pressing earned a penalty, coolly converted by Saka, restoring Arsenal’s dominance. Leandro Trossard added a fifth with a header late on, capping off a comprehensive performance. Defensively, Arsenal were superb, nullifying Victor Gyokeres, Sporting’s in-form striker. The win showcases Arsenal’s growing confidence and momentum. With their fluid attack and solid defence back to their best, the Gunners are emerging as serious contenders in Europe once again. De Ketelaere restored Atalanta’s lead with a well-taken goal in the 28th minute and turned provider again three minutes later, delivering an assist to Sead Kolasinac for a third. The first-half onslaught continued as Retegui netted his second in the 39th minute, once again assisted by De Ketelaere, as the Italian striker made the most of a perfectly weighted pass. Atalanta carried a commanding 4-1 lead into the break. The dominance resumed after halftime, with De Ketelaere adding a fifth goal in the 56th minute. His low shot from the edge of the box took a deflection, leaving the Young Boys keeper helpless. Substituted in the 75th minute to a standing ovation, De Ketelaere had already sealed his status as the man of the match.
