Newcastle took an early lead in the 35th minute when Alexander Isak converted a pinpoint assist from Bruno Guimarães, setting the home crowd alight. The Magpies held their advantage going into halftime as Liverpool struggled to find their rhythm. The second half, however, saw the visitors roar back into the contest. Curtis Jones brought Liverpool level in the 50th minute, capitalising on a clever setup by Mohamed Salah. The joy for Liverpool was short-lived as Anthony Gordon restored Newcastle’s lead in the 62nd minute, assisted by Isak. the suspect in in New York City, apparently was living a charmed life: the grandson of a wealthy real estate developer, valedictorian of his elite Baltimore prep school and with degrees from one of the nation's top private universities. Friends at an exclusive co-living space at the edge of touristy Waikiki in Hawaii where the 26-year-old Mangione once lived widely considered him a “great guy,” and pictures on his social media accounts show a fit, smiling, handsome young man on beaches and at parties. Now, are working to piece together why Mangione may have diverged from this path to make the violent and radical decision to gun down in a brazen attack on a Manhattan street. sparked widespread discussions about unfairness in the medical insurance industry and even inspired folk-hero sentiment toward his killer. But Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro sharply refuted that perception after when a customer at a McDonald's restaurant in Pennsylvania spotted Mangione eating and noticed he resembled the shooting suspect in security-camera photos released by New York police. “In some dark corners, this killer is being hailed as a hero. Hear me on this, he is no hero,” Shapiro said. “The real hero in this story is the person who called 911 at McDonald’s this morning.” Mangione's family and upbringing Mangione comes from a prominent Maryland family. His grandfather, Nick Mangione, who died in 2008, was a successful real estate developer. One of his best-known projects was Turf Valley Resort, a sprawling luxury retreat and conference center outside Baltimore that he purchased in 1978. The Mangione family also purchased Hayfields Country Club north of Baltimore in 1986. On Monday, Baltimore County police officers blocked off an entrance to the property, which public records link to Luigi Mangione’s parents. Reporters and photographers gathered outside the entrance. The father of 10 children, Nick Mangione prepared his five sons — including Luigi Mangione’s father, Louis Mangione — to help manage the family business, according to a 2003 Washington Post report. Nick Mangione had 37 grandchildren, including Luigi, according to the grandfather's obituary. Luigi Mangione’s grandparents donated to charities through the Mangione Family Foundation, according to a statement from Loyola University commemorating Nick Mangione’s wife’s death in 2023. They donated to various causes, including Catholic organizations, colleges and the arts. One of Luigi Mangione’s cousins is Republican Maryland state legislator Nino Mangione, a spokesman for the lawmaker’s office confirmed. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” Mangione’s family said in a statement posted on social media by Nino Mangione. “We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved.” Mangione's education and work history Mangione, who was valedictorian of his elite Maryland prep school, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science in 2020 from the University of Pennsylvania, a university spokesman told The Associated Press. He learned to code in high school and helped start a club at Penn for people interested in gaming and game design, according to a 2018 story in Penn Today, a campus publication. His social media posts suggest he belonged to the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. They also show him taking part in a 2019 program at Stanford University, and in photos with family and friends at the Jersey Shore and in Hawaii, San Diego, Puerto Rico, and other destinations. The Gilman School, from which Mangione graduated in 2016, is one of Baltimore’s elite prep schools. The children of some of the city’s wealthiest and most prominent residents, including Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr., have attended the school. Its alumni include sportswriter Frank Deford and former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington. In his valedictory speech, Luigi Mangione described his classmates’ “incredible courage to explore the unknown and try new things.” Mangione took a software programming internship after high school at Maryland-based video game studio Firaxis, where he fixed bugs on the hit strategy game Civilization 6, according to a LinkedIn profile. Firaxis' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, said it would not comment on former employees. He more recently worked at the car-buying website TrueCar, but has not worked there since 2023, the head of the Santa Monica, California-based company confirmed to the AP. Time in Hawaii and reports of back pain From January to June 2022, Mangione lived at Surfbreak, a “co-living” space at the edge of touristy Waikiki in Honolulu. Like other residents of the shared penthouse catering to remote workers, Mangione underwent a background check, said Josiah Ryan, a spokesperson for owner and founder R.J. Martin. “Luigi was just widely considered to be a great guy. There were no complaints,” Ryan said. “There was no sign that might point to these alleged crimes they’re saying he committed.” At Surfbreak, Martin learned Mangione had severe back pain from childhood that interfered with many aspects of his life, including surfing, Ryan said. “He went surfing with R.J. once but it didn’t work out because of his back,” Ryan said, but noted that Mangione and Martin often went together to a rock-climbing gym. Mangione left Surfbreak to get surgery on the mainland, Ryan said, then later returned to Honolulu and rented an apartment. An image posted to a social media account linked to Mangione showed what appeared to be an X-ray of a metal rod and multiple screws inserted into someone's lower spine. Martin stopped hearing from Mangione six months to a year ago. An X account linked to Mangione includes recent posts about the negative impact of smartphones on children; healthy eating and exercise habits; psychological theories; and a quote from Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti about the dangers of becoming “well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” Police report a darker turn Mangione likely was motivated by his anger at what he called “parasitic” health insurance companies and a disdain for corporate greed, according to a law enforcement bulletin obtained by AP. He wrote that the U.S. has the most expensive healthcare system in the world and that the profits of major corporations continue to rise while “our life expectancy” does not, according to the bulletin, based on a review of the suspect’s handwritten notes and social media posts. He appeared to view the targeted killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO as a symbolic takedown, asserting in his note that he is the “first to face it with such brutal honesty,” the bulletin said. Mangione called “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski a “political revolutionary” and may have found inspiration from the man who carried out a series of bombings while railing against modern society and technology, the document said. ___ Associated Press reporters Lea Skene in Baltimore; Jennifer Sinco Kelleher in Honolulu; Maryclaire Dale in Philadelphia; John Seewer in Toledo, Ohio; and Michael Kunzelman in Washington, D.C., contributed to this report. CLEVELAND (AP) — Shortly after doing a face-down snow angel, firing a few celebratory snowballs and singing “Jingle Bells” on his way to the media room, Jameis Winston ended his postgame news conference with a simple question. “Am I a Brown yet?” he asked. He is now. And who knows? Maybe for a lot longer than expected. Winston entered Cleveland football folklore on Thursday night by leading the Browns to a 24-19 win over the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who had their five-game winning streak stopped. Winston's performance at Huntington Bank Field, which transformed into the world's largest snow globe, not only made him an instantaneous hero in the eyes of Browns fans but added another wrinkle to the team's ever-changing, never-ending quarterback conundrum. In his fourth start since Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles tendon injury, Winston made enough big plays to help the Browns (3-8) get a victory that should quiet conjecture about coach Kevin Stefanski's job. Some wins mean more than others. In Cleveland, beating the Steelers is as big as it gets. But beyond any instant gratification, Winston has given the Browns more to consider as they move forward. Watson's future with Cleveland is highly uncertain since it will still be months before the team has a grip on whether he's even an option in 2025, his fourth year since signing a $230 million, fully guaranteed contract that has proven calamitous. It's also possible the Browns will cut ties with Watson. They signed Winston to a one-year contract to be Watson's backup. But the unexpected events of 2024 have changed plans and led to the possibility that the 30-year-old Winston could become Cleveland's full-time QB or a bridge to their next young one. So much is unclear. What's not is that Winston, who leaped into the end zone on fourth-and-2 for a TD to put the Browns ahead 18-6 in the fourth quarter, is a difference maker. With his larger-than-life personality and the joy he shows whether practicing or throwing three touchdown passes, he has lifted the Browns. A man of faith, he's made his teammates believe. Winston has done what Watson couldn't: made the Browns better. “A very, very authentic person,” Stefanski said Friday on a Zoom call. “He’s the same guy every single day. He's the same guy at 5 a.m. as he at 5 p.m. He brings great energy to everything he does, and I think his teammates appreciate that about him.” Winston, who is 2-2 as a starter with wins over the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, has a knack for inspiring through fiery, preacher-like pregame speeches. But what has impressed the Browns is his ability to stay calm in the storm. “He doesn’t get rattled,” said Myles Garrett, who had three sacks against the Steelers . “He’s just tuned in and focused as anyone I’ve seen at that position. Turn the page. There was a turnover, came back to the sideline, ‘Love you. I’m sorry. We’re going to get it back.’ He was already on to the next one, ‘How can we complete the mission?’ “I have a lot of respect for him. First was from afar and now seeing it on the field in front of me, it’s a blessing to have someone who plays a game with such a passion and want-to. You can’t ask for a better teammate when they take those things to heart and they want to play for you like we’re actually brothers and that’s what we have to attain. That brotherhood.” Winston has done something else Watson couldn't: move the offense. The Browns scored more than 20 points for just the second time this season, and like Joe Flacco a year ago, Winston has shown that Stefanski's system works with a quarterback patient enough to let plays develop and unafraid to take shots downfield. The conditions certainly were a factor, but the Browns were a miserable 1 of 10 on third down, a season-long trend. However, Cleveland converted all four fourth-down tries, including a fourth-and-3 pass from Winston to Jerry Jeudy with 2:36 left that helped set up Nick Chubb's go-ahead TD run. RT Jack Conklin. Garrett outplayed Steelers star T.J. Watt in their rivalry within the rivalry partly because Conklin did a nice job containing Pittsburgh's edge rusher, who was held without a sack and had one tackle for loss. Conklin has made a remarkable comeback since undergoing reconstructive knee surgery last year. Owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam. Their desire to build a dome is well intended, but an indoor game could never come close to matching the surreal setting of Thursday night, when snow swirled throughout the stadium and covered nearly all the yard lines and hash marks. “It was beautiful,” Winston said. WR Cedric Tillman is in the concussion protocol. He had two catches before taking a big hit on the final play of the third quarter. 9 — Consecutive home wins for the Browns in Thursday night games. Tensions from China’s ongoing dispute with the United States over trade have continued to escalate this week, according to multiple reports. The U.S. and China have been engaged in an ongoing trade battle , with both countries vying for an upper hand. As President Joe Biden’s term comes to an end, his administration has recently rolled out new export restrictions on China. Chinese President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that there will be “no winners” in a U.S.-China trade war, according to Chinese broadcaster CCTV. The Chinese president criticized sanctions the U.S. has placed on Chinese companies in April, calling them an “endless stream of measures to suppress China’s economy, trade, science and technology.” China has recently escalated trade tensions, with some Chinese manufacturers beginning to limit sales to Europe and the U.S. of components vital to building unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones, which play a vital role in Ukraine’s defense against Russia, according to Bloomberg. Some Western officials expect China to implement broad-ranging export restrictions on drone parts in the coming year, Bloomberg reported. The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced on Dec. 2 new restrictions designed to curb the People’s Republic of China’s capacity to produce advanced semiconductors that can be used in advanced weapon systems, artificial intelligence and advanced computing. China’s Ministry of Commerce quickly responded to the move on Dec. 3 by announcing a ban on exports of materials which can be used in the production of semiconductors and ammunition. In November, China’s exports increased 6.7% from a year earlier, down from October’s 12.7% growth, The WSJ report noted. President-elect Donald Trump has proposed sweeping tariffs on imported goods when he returns to the White House in January 2025, including on goods imported from China . The U.S. implemented various tariffs against China under Trump’s first presidential administration. Despite many members of the media warning that a trade war with China would tank the U.S. economy, Trump previously spoke positively of the effects on the steel and auto industries from his placing tariffs on China. Trump also threatened to impose a 10% tariff on Chinese goods to pressure China into taking additional steps to prevent the trafficking of Chinese-made chemicals used in fentanyl — a synthetic opioid that has caused the deaths of thousands of Americans in recent years — according to Reuters. If enacted, the president-elect’s proposed tariffs on China could pose major growth risks for China’s economy. Trump’s proposal to sharply raise tariffs could also cause China to accelerate shifting to offshore factories, according to PBS News. Veteran catcher James McCann , who is coming off two solid seasons as a backup with the Baltimore Orioles, is hitting the free agent market. McCann, 34, began his career with the Detroit Tigers, where he looked to be a star in the making. From there, he went to Chicago, where he made an All-Star Game with the White Sox, before signing a big contract with the New York Mets before the 2021 season. However, McCann could never get it going in New York and eventually was traded to the Orioles prior to the 2023 season. Over the last two years in Baltimore, McCann was primarily a backup and excelled in that role. Additionally, he was a great veteran leader on a young team, which is not an easily found trait. Now, James McCann is looking for a home for 2025. Many teams should be interested in his services as both a catcher and a leader. James McCann Free Agent Profile McCann’s Time In Baltimore After the Orioles acquired McCann, it was clear he was going to play the backup role to Adley Rutschman . However, that did not stop McCann from becoming a key part of the team’s two consecutive postseason runs. During his two seasons in Baltimore, McCann played 69 and 65 games, respectively. He averaged a .228 batting average and a .656 OPS. Those numbers are not incredible, but they will do for a backup catcher. McCann’s Leadership Despite not playing every day or not being a top hitter, McCann was one of the loudest voices in the locker room. Orioles reporter Roch Kubatko noted that one veteran player the Orioles traded for at the deadline noticed that “this is McCann’s clubhouse.” His leadership was noticeable on the diamond as well, whether he was high-fiving guys or talking them up. Additionally, McCann adds a lot of toughness to the team. This was brought to light when McCann’s nose was broken on a hit by pitch, and he stayed in the game afterward. 2024 PitchingNinja Tough Guy Award. ? Winner: James McCann Somehow staying in this game. pic.twitter.com/CZR8Skbdoz — Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) November 27, 2024 This type of toughness and leadership was invaluable to all the Orioles’ young players. Besides his on-the-field leadership, McCann is an excellent person off the field. He was the Orioles’ 2024 Roberto Clemente Award nominee, and in his two years in Baltimore, McCann helped the community in countless ways. Potential Contract For McCann During his second go-around in free agency, McCann will not be commanding another four-year, $40 million contract. Spotrac projects that McCann will earn a one-year deal worth about $2.8 million. That is a fair price for McCann’s services, which extend on and off the field. Where Will James McCann Land? The Orioles should be working very hard to keep McCann in Baltimore. Rutschman is still a young catcher, and the leadership McCann provides for not only Rutschman but the whole clubhouse is invaluable. Also, top prospect Samuel Basallo , a catcher, is set to debut in 2025, and having McCann around him could help his growth. Besides the Orioles, it’s tough to tell where else McCann could land. There are plenty of playoff-caliber teams who could use McCann’s leadership and toughness. But a rebuilding team with a young catcher could also try to copy the Orioles’ plan. One rebuilding team that stands out is the Washington Nationals. They showed some spark in 2024, but could not get the offense going consistently. Adding McCann as a leader, helping out young catcher Keibert Ruiz in the process, could be an under-the-radar move that helps the Nationals make a playoff push. The winner of Valley Waters’ Ward 4 byelection said she is new to politics but has a mindset of “learning as I grow.” Fran Keirstead, of Norton, was the winner Monday as Valley Waters was one of 10 communities taking part in the New Brunswick municipal byelections. Keirstead received 73 votes, with former Norton councillor Theresa Ann Teakles receiving 53 votes and Chris Smith, co-owner of Green Meadows Special Care Home, receiving 13. The vacancy opened when former Norton mayor Ann-Marie Snyder resigned her council seat in September due to moving out of the village. Keirstead is to be sworn in at the Jan. 14 council meeting, according to a post by Valley Waters on Facebook. Keirstead, 32, an educational assistant at Sussex Regional High School, said she was “quite surprised, actually” by the results. “The part I’m excited about is having a voice for the younger generation that are raising the children right now,” she said. “I’m still like, ‘whoa.’” Teakles had been elected to Norton council in 2008, but lost in the 2012 municipal election and ran again unsuccessfully in 2016. Keirstead said deputy mayor Carey Beth Gillis had seen her posts about repairs to Norton Elementary School and suggested she put her name forward in the byelection. “It was something that would have never crossed my mind,” Keirstead said. “I have no background in this kind of stuff. She assured me that they would teach me everything I needed to know, and my mindset of learning as I grow was valid, so that’s what made me decide to give it a go.” Keirstead grew up in Norton and studied human services at NBCC Saint John in 2014, working in auto parts sales before moving to her goal of being an EA. She said that as a mother of young kids, she wants to make Valley Waters a place they can live when they grow up. “I hope that they’ll stay and want to raise their families here,” Keirstead said. Valley Waters council is made up of a mayor and six councillors representing four wards. The council was elected in 2022 as part of local government reform, which formed Valley Waters as an amalgamation of Norton, Springfield, Kars, Wickham and parts of two local service districts. A byelection in 2023 filled two spots on council after the number of representatives for each ward was changed as part of the reform process, with Beth Gillis winning with 66 votes in Ward 2 and Lindsey Ganong winning with 37 votes in Ward 3. Turnout this year was almost 14 per cent per cent with 141 ballots cast, up from 10 per cent in the 2023 byelection, when 183 votes were cast in two races, but down from about 28 per cent in the 2022 election.Invest in These 2 Unstoppable Canadian Stocks for the Next Decade

Moses wins Graham-Simon Plumbing/WV News Athlete of WeekLearn the Importance of Keeping Business Exteriors Clean With Fresh Power Wash 12-10-2024 09:48 PM CET | Politics, Law & Society Press release from: ABNewswire Sarasota, FL - There are many factors that contribute to the success of a business. For example, the prices of the products or services offered plays a large role, as does the location of the business and the friendliness of the staff. However, another factor worth considering is the overall appearance of the commercial property, and this is something that needs to be actively maintained over the course of time. Many business owners already put a lot of work into keeping their interiors clean; however, the property's exterior is just as important, if not more. That is because it is the first thing every potential customer will see. Learn more about keeping your property's exterior clean with Fresh Power Wash [ https://www.freshpowerwashllc.com/ ] below. The Inevitable Accumulation of Surface Debris Over time, any property's exterior will accumulate debris. It is no exception for commercial properties. Dirt will build up, and moss and mold will take root and grow. If this problem is left unattended to, the messes will only become more noticeable, potentially turning away customers. The situation is only exacerbated over time as this unwanted debris begins wearing down the exterior surfaces. Ultimately, the worst-case scenario is that dirty surfaces become damaged and ultimately require costly repairs. It is clear that the accumulation of debris cannot be prevented entirely. However, it can be reversed. Perhaps the most effective way of doing so is with a special surface cleaning technique known as pressure washing. [ https://www.freshpowerwashllc.com/Pressure-Washing-Company-in-Sarasota-FL/ ] Maintaining Customer Satisfaction With Pressure Washing By pressure washing a business's exterior surfaces, the property's owners can ensure that the building looks its best, boosting the business's curb appeal and drawing in more customers. People gravitate towards brighter, better-looking properties, and this is a subconscious factor just as much as it is a conscious one. Because of this, it is important for business owners to pressure clean whatever exterior surfaces they have. For example, parking lots, outside walls, driveways, and sidewalks should all be kept free from debris. The required equipment for this work includes a pressure washing pump, a hose, and safety equipment such as eyewear, ear plugs, and gloves. Fresh Power Wash Provides Commercial Pressure Washing in Manatee County, FL Not all business owners will have time to pressure wash their own property exteriors. Because of this, Fresh Power Wash provides full-service commercial pressure washing services, helping to improve local businesses' appearance and helping them appeal to the maximum number of customers.
