Central Connecticut State defeats Binghamton 64-56Jammu, Dec 28: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakina Itoo Saturday did not mince words while censuring “pathetic state of affairs of patient care and hygiene in the main emergency of GMC, hospital Jammu.” While expressing her dissatisfaction, the Health Minister asserted that the robust infrastructure and facilities in premier government health institutions was the priority of the J&K government as they (institutions) catered to the needs of poor masses. She was speaking to the media after conducting a surprise visit to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, Jammu. “This is your main emergency. Situation is pathetic. See, you doctors are coming now in the ambulance and the patients are standing outside, suffering,” she told the GMC Principal and Dean Dr Ashutosh Gupta, as he tried to explain the situation vis-a-vis poor hygiene in the emergency and absence of few doctors. “As per roster, doctors were not there. Number was less. They are arriving now. Hygiene or sanitation standards are pathetic. Hospitals should be neat and clean so that patients can be treated well. But given the scenario, I feel their (patients) condition would not improve but deteriorate. Even a healthy person can turn sick. It is a pitiable state of affairs in the hospital,” she told media persons, in response to their queries. Itoo stated, “Patient were there in the emergency as paint exercise was underway. Smell of paint is not good for patients. It can add to their health woes. System is not up to the mark in this hospital. We will see what can be done to improve the situation. Doctors have been available here. But some were found absent. Action will be taken against absent doctors.” “See the government hospitals, whether they are in Kashmir, Jammu, Rajouri or elsewhere, are very important because they cater to the poor masses. Rich and affluent people can go anywhere to avail medical services in top notch private hospitals but poor cannot. So they should get the best of the treatment here. There is an army of doctors deployed here but still I’ve found several doctors, as per roster, absent from duty. This is not correct,” the Minister said. Later, the GMC Principal said, “Construction is going on in the Emergency wing. Due to Friday’s showers, there was some issue of hygiene. As far as the absence of doctors is concerned, I’ll check the roster. Many doctors were on duty in different wards. We will check and apprise the Minister of the exact status.”Access Bank Tackles VeryDarkMan, Says No N500m Missing From Customer’s Account
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A businessman with no experience in public office is taking over as mayor of Oregon’s biggest city as it embraces an entirely new system of government — one that’s so different, the City Council chambers had to be completely renovated. Portland voters last month elected Keith Wilson, a trucking company executive and founder of a nonprofit working to increase homeless shelter capacity. He ran on an ambitious pledge to end unsheltered homelessness within a year and will be sworn in Thursday alongside a council expanded from five seats to 12. Portland is contending with homelessness, public drug use and a rising cost of living. Wilson, a Portland native, plans to reach his goal of ending unsheltered homelessness by increasing the number of nighttime walk-in emergency shelters in facilities such as churches and community centers. His message appeared to have resonated in a city where surveys conducted over the past few years have shown that residents view homelessness as a top issue. He ran against three outgoing City Council members. The mayoral race , which featured 19 candidates, was thrown open when Mayor Ted Wheeler decided against seeking reelection after holding the city’s top post since 2017. Wheeler rose to national prominence in 2020 as nightly protests erupted on Portland streets and around the country in response to the police killing of George Floyd . The field of candidates in council races was crowded as well, with nearly 100 running for the new seats that were elected by voters in individual districts rather than citywide. The 130-year-old City Hall was renovated for $8.3 million to accommodate the increase in members. The new dais can now seat 12 people; floor layouts were changed to create more office space; and technology, seismic and accessibility updates were added throughout the building. “Remodeling council chambers is a once-in-a-generation activity,” Maty Sauter, director of Portland’s Bureau of Fleet and Facilities, told the outgoing City Council as it held its last meeting on Wednesday in the new chambers. “We’ve been able to reuse this 1895 facility and make it modern, contemporary and useful.” It’s going to take time for the new government to figure out which of the many changes are working, said Chris Shortell, associate professor of political science at Portland State University. In another first for City Hall, Wilson and the incoming Council members were elected under Portland’s new system of ranked-choice voting . A candidate would win if they were the first choice of more than 50% of voters in the first round. Otherwise, a second round would eliminate the candidate with the fewest votes and their supporters’ votes go to their next choice. The process would repeat until someone emerges with a majority of votes. Some 34% of voters ranked Wilson as their first choice, according to final results. The new City Council will hold its first meeting in January.Cuesz Highlighted in Feature Article: "The Precision Alliance: How Technology and Expertise Combine to Elevate Performance" 12-13-2024 11:50 PM CET | Sports Press release from: Getnews / PR Agency: Erase Technologies, LLC Image: https://www.globalnewslines.com/uploads/2024/12/1734127367.jpg Cuesz, Florida, USA Cuesz, a leader in the health and wellness industry, has been prominently showcased in the online article "The Precision Alliance: How Cuesz Combines Technology and Human Expertise to Elevate Performance." IPW says that it is making the clarification in response to a statement credited to Chika Edoziem, spokesman for the IPOB’s Directorate of State, DOS, which denounced and disclaimed IPW. There has been a cross fire of verbal attacks between IPW and its parent body, the IPOB. IPW claims to be a political Wing from the parent body seeking to be part of Nigeria’s political process. In IPW’s statement issued by Emereonye Nwachukwu the spokesman of the group, it noted that IPOB’s tactics for achieving a state of Biafra is obsolete. He made references to the civil war and the advent of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, which never saw fruition. Emereonye noted that it is unnecessary to stay and rant all year when getting involved in politics can bring the much touted freedom to the Igbo people in Nigeria. “Nnamdi Kanu agrees with IPOB Political Wing and has called for negotiation with the federal government on this. “He has successfully entered into a couple of political concessions, he knows there is no other way. ” He agreed to need for election to take place and more. “However, since Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and detained, none of this people have visited him. “You all are all in hiding like fearful rats in a hole. Only the politicians you attack were able to meet him, despite Nigerian politicians being evil an unpatriotic,” Emereonye said.
A woman has been called “ungrateful” for ditching her birthday party after her friend ignored her wishes and threw a “full-blown house party.” In a recent post shared to the popular “ Am I The A**hole?” Reddit forum, a woman shared how her roommate, who she referred to as Sara, recently planned the party in their shared condo. She said that when her friend initially offered to throw the event, it was just going to be “a small birthday party,” since the Reddit user wasn’t a fan of big parties. “I was on board with it because I don’t like huge gatherings and prefer intimate celebrations with close friends. I have slight social anxiety as well,” she explained. The woman shared that leading up to the event, Sara said that the plan was to only have a few mutual friends over, before having cake and maybe watching a movie. While this idea was “perfect” for the birthday girl, things took a turn the day off, when she discovered the party was not small at all. “Sara had invited a ton of people—at least 50. Some were mutual friends, but a lot were people I barely knew or hadn’t even met before,” she continued. “She had also set up a bunch of party decorations, hired a DJ, and there was even a huge table of food and drinks. It felt like a full-blown house party, not the chill gathering I was expecting.” Right when she got to the party, she “felt overwhelmed,” since there was more attention on her than she initially expected. So, she asked Sara why the party was so big. “I pulled Sara aside and asked her why she invited so many people when we had agreed on something small,” she added. “She shrugged it off and said, “Oh, come on, it’s your birthday! I wanted to make it special!” She emphasized that while she “appreciated the effort” her friend made, this wasn’t the kind of party she wanted, so she didn’t stay too long. “I felt completely uncomfortable and anxious. After trying to stick it out for a bit, I just couldn’t handle it and decided to leave. I ended up going to a nearby coffee shop to calm down and clear my head,” she explained. When Sara texted her asking where she was, she told her she “wasn’t comfortable with the party” and “needed some space.” However, both Sara and the Reddit user’s friends aren’t happy about the birthday girl leaving the event. “She was upset and said I was being ungrateful for everything she did for me. Now some of our friends are saying I overreacted and that Sara was just trying to be nice by throwing me a big party,” the woman concluded. The Reddit post has quickly gone viral, with more than 1,600 upvotes. In the comments, multiple people defended that woman’s decision to leave her own party, since it wasn’t the kind of event she wanted. Some also gave her advice on how to handle the situation with her roommate. “The party was more than expected and made you uncomfortable, you shouldn’t have to stay in a situation that makes you uncomfortable even if it is your birthday party,” one wrote. “I would suggest talking to Sara about how you get overwhelmed in big crowds, especially with people you don’t know too well but that you loved the effort of her wanting to make it a special birthday.” “It’s not ‘nice’ to throw someone who is very vocal about not liking large, loud parties... in your (shared) home. I wish some of your other friends would have left with you, knowing how much you don’t enjoy this kind of setting,” another wrote. “You set a boundary, Sara crossed that boundary, you removed yourself from the situation. Believe it or not, that is the adult thing to do. Sara did nothing for you to be grateful for. Sara threw herself a party and invited you,” a third responded.CROWN POINT — A 46-year-old Lansing man has been identified as the driver who died after crashing Wednesday night into a waterway in the 800 block of Flagstone Drive in Dyer, according to the Lake County Coroner's Officer. Macau is regarded by China as a shining example of its "One Country, Two Systems" model, and Xi praised the city as a "pearl in the nation's palm" at the start of his three-day visit. The Chinese casino hub has grown from a Portuguese trading outpost to the world's casino capital by gaming revenue and a popular destination for Chinese tourists. When Macau reverted to Chinese rule on December 20, 1999, Beijing promised that the city's "capitalist system and way of life shall remain unchanged for 50 years". Arriving in the city on Wednesday, Xi lauded Macau's "world-recognised success" in implementing the "One Country, Two Systems" framework and said the city had a bright future. "Macau is a pearl in the nation's palm, and I have always kept in my thoughts its development and the welfare of all its people," Xi said. The Chinese president added that he would use his trip for "extensive and in-depth exchanges with our friends from all places, and discuss plans for Macau's development". Friday's festivities will be centred around the inauguration of Sam Hou-fai, the former president of Macau's apex court, as the city's fourth post-handover leader, replacing Ho Iat-seng. Security was tight around the city on Thursday, with roadblocks set up around an event venue and authorities increasing checks on inbound visitors. Following the end of 442 years of Portuguese rule, Macau's fortunes have risen in lockstep with China's economic growth. It is the only place in China where casino gambling is permitted and has long surpassed Las Vegas as the world's top casino hub, fuelled by two decades of Chinese visitor spending. Macau, which has a resident population of 687,000, saw just over 29 million visitor arrivals in the first 10 months of the year. Its GDP has soared from $6.4 billion in 1999 to more than $47 billion last year, and its population is the richest in China on a per capita basis. Under orders from Beijing to diversify the economy, Macau leaders have proposed fields such as financial services, technology and Chinese medicine as new economic drivers. But as of November, gaming-related taxes still made up 81 percent of government revenue and experts say Macau is years away from weaning itself off casino wealth. Xi on Thursday visited the Macau University of Science and Technology and was "briefed on the development of two state-level key laboratories" that involved Chinese medicine and planetary science, according to state news agency Xinhua. He also visited the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone on Hengqin Island, speaking to residents and people there in charge of planning, construction, management and services, Xinhua reported. Hengqin Island, a landmass adjacent to Macau and three times its size, was partly leased by Beijing to Macau to boost its land supply for non-gaming development. hol/oho/sco
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash., Dec. 19, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), which is innovating new ways for energy providers and cities to manage energy and water, announced today a collaboration with Xcel Energy to manage the growing number of distributed energy resources (DERs) in Colorado, including residential battery energy storage, to support grid flexibility and customer choice. As part of this collaboration, Xcel Energy has contracted with Itron to deploy an Aggregator Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) from Itron’s Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio to help manage DERs. On average, 25% of all U.S. homes with solar PV also have battery energy storage. As consumer adoption of battery energy storage continues to grow, energy providers can use Aggregator DERMS to enlist consumer-owned residential battery storage at the edge of the grid as a resource to support the grid. Residential batteries, and other DERs, can help optimize grid operations, promoting greater system reliability, lower energy costs and increased customer choice to adopt solar generation and electric vehicles. Aggregator DERMS enables both aggregated management of DERs for tasks such as load balancing and demand response as well as localized management of DERs for managing solar panels, EV chargers and smart thermostats. Itron’s Aggregator DERMS allows Xcel Energy to use residential battery storage through its Renewable Battery Connect program to manage peak loads and to support reliable electric service to customers. “As we lead the clean energy transition, Xcel Energy continues to make strides to deliver energy to our customers when and where they need it. Using our Virtual Power Plant program - Renewable Battery Connect, we can manage distributed energy resources to help our energy grid meet unprecedented increases in demand from a more electrified economy,” said Emmett Romine, VP Customer Energy & Transportation Solutions at Xcel Energy. “We’re delivering clean, reliable and resilient electricity to customers while keeping bills low, and we’re always looking for opportunities to use new technologies to benefit our customers.” “Xcel Energy is an innovator in adopting and deploying systems that are ready for the increase in DERs. Our solution turns these customer-owned devices into grid assets, which is crucial for an electrified future,” said Don Reeves, senior vice president of Outcomes at Itron. “Itron’s Aggregator DERMS can lay the foundation for autonomous management of DERs, when used with distributed intelligence, to provide real-time visibility into the grid edge. This broader solution uses back-office analytics combined with DI edge computing that operates on a customer’s Itron electric meter directly. DI can connect to, and coordinate with the customer’s DER, such as battery storage, to continuously take advantage of stored energy in near real-time to protect customer and grid assets autonomously, which is an industry first.” “Itron’s Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio currently manages 3 million DER devices for 30 utilities across the U.S. and helps solve the challenges of tomorrow by leveraging the power of grid edge intelligence. I look forward to our continued collaboration with Xcel Energy and supporting a grid that’s ready for the future of DERs.” To learn more about Itron’s Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio, visit the solution page . Mysterious googly eyes go viral after appearing on public art in Oregon
What better subject for a new year! Moses is dead; Joshua carries on. Here’s the story. The promised land has been spied out and all systems are go! The Israelites have followed Joshua to the Jordan River. The long-awaited-for promised land is just ahead. A new exciting day is dawning. But then it happens — trouble — an obstacle. These obstacles may be economic, political, social or personal — but they always come. The obstacle facing the children of Israel was the flooding of the Jordan River. There were no boats or bridges, just gallons of rushing waters. They were so close to their destination, could even see it, but couldn’t reach it. They had to be disappointed as they waited three days to cross over into the promised land. Javascript is required for you to be able to read premium content. Where Are U.S. Property Taxes Highest and Lowest? A State, County, and City AnalysisMister Car Wash Announces Transfer of Stock Listing to NasdaqFormer has taken aim at Usman Khawaja's decision to allow rookie opener Nathan McSweeney to face the first ball in , calling on the veteran to "own the moment". McSweeney lasted just four balls before being trapped lbw by Jasprit Bumrah, precipitating a collapse that saw Australia lose 3-12 in pursuit of an unachievable 534 at Perth Stadium. India should wrap up the first Test on Monday, completing a humiliating rout of a listless, tardy and severely deflated Australia side. The home side simply ran out of ideas on day and fight on day three as and a back-to-form Virat Kohli piled on the misery with centuries before a late declaration. Many fans saw the move to allow debutant McSweeney to face the first ball of the second innings as symptomatic of Australia's lack of planning and general cricket smarts. Clarke was astounded by the decision. "A lot of people don't like taking first ball, so the opening batters rotate," he told Sky Sports' Big Sports Breakfast. "Khawaja took the first ball in the first innings and now they're saying it's McSweeney (for the second innings). "But I think Uzzie should have said, 'youngster, get down the other end, even though we're going to rotate, even though I don't like taking it, it's my time'. (He should have said) 'I'm a senior player. I'm 38 years of age in a week's time. Listen here, youngster, I know you want to do it (but) get down there. It's my turn'. I think Uzzie should have owned that moment." Clarke was also critical over the lack of fight when India batted a second time, accusing Australia of going through the motions. He said: "It was like we just expected to knock India over again for not many – there was no intent. They were right in our faces but I didn't see any of our bowlers give it to any (India) batsmen. Our intent, our energy...it all looked a bit flat for the first Test of the summer." Things went from bad to embarrassing in the final half hour of play as the Aussies lost McSweeney (0), Pat Cummins (2) and Marnus Labuschagne (3). McSweeney fell victim to Bumrah for the second innings in a row, completing a nightmare Test debut for the 25-year-old. But many were left questioning why veteran teammate Khawaja didn't show more leadership by facing the first ball of the innings. Khawaja faced the first ball in the first innings, but in the second dig the Aussie openers switched it around (which is customary for openers). But given McSweeney was on debut and the incredible Bumrah was bowling in fading light, many felt Khawaja should have shown some leadership and fronted up himself. The 37-year-old Khawaja has played 73 Tests, and many fans and commentators felt it was 'poor' for him to allow McSweeney to expose himself to Bumrah straight away. Others countered by saying McSweeney would have had to face Bumrah at some stage anyway, and openers shouldn't need protecting. But the sight of Khawaja standing at the non-striker's end while Bumrah cannoned a ball into McSweeney's front pad left a sour taste in many people's mouths. And Khawaja lets the debutant face Bumrah. Pathetic. 👎 — The Cricket Camera (@CricketCamera) Surely as the senior opener Khawaja has to take the first ball... harsh on McSweeney — Johnny Amos (@JohnnyA988) Really poor from Khawaja and the Aussie brains trust. Should’ve shown leadership and seniority and taken the first over. Instead he’s left McSweeney to face the music. Gets a low one and is gone. — Phil Schultz (@philschultz11) Usman ‘The People’s Champ’ Khawaja making debutant McSweeney face up first ball in a massively tricky period before close is a joke — Alasdair 🇳🇦🇳🇿 (@Alasdair333) Khawaja literally sent debutant McSweeney to face the first ball from Bumrah. Disgraceful 😭😭 — Nash (@NashvSant) Shame on Usman Khawaja, being the senior partner, to let the debutant take the first ball. Absolutely mind-boggling cricket by cover this topic. Cracks appearing in the Australian team more than the Perth pitch. — Dragon K (@kevinriemers23) Cummins then showed some brilliant leadership by coming out to bat at No.3, protecting Labuschagne and Steve Smith from having to bat in the tricky conditions. But once he departed, Labuschagne decided to come out at No.4 anyway. And it immediately backfired as the struggling batter lasted just five balls. Many were left wondering why the Aussies would send Labuschagne out at No.4 if they didn't send him out at 3, with some suggesting a second nightwatchman in Nathan Lyon should have batted instead. If the Aussies were going to be three down at stumps, surely you'd rather they be Cummins and Lyon in the shed rather than McSweeney and Labuschagne. And to make matters worse for Labuschagne, he burned a review on his way back to the pavilion. The Aussie batter got it horribly wrong when he shouldered arms and watched the ball from Bumrah thud into his pads. After a discussion with Khawaja he opted to use DRS, and replays showed the ball was thundering into his off stump. Labuschagne's decision to use a review when he didn't even play a shot was labelled 'selfish' by many cricket pundits on social media. What an absolutely disgraceful challenge from Marnus. Utterly selfish and egotistical. Needs to be dropped — Ronny Lerner (@RonnyLerner) Marnus needs a spell from top level. He looks all at sea. Has not made a ton in 18 months. One score over 10 in last 10 innings. — Croz🔟 (@croz_10) What about the selfish referral by Marnus? — Peter Chivers (@PeterChivers41) The Aussies are no chance of chasing 534, but you'd like to have all your reviews in hand in case the umpire makes a howler. Labuschagne's dismissal continued his horror run of form, in which he hasn't made a Test century in the last 18 months. There's renewed questions about how much longer the Aussies can afford to keep Labuschagne in the team, although there doesn't appear to be many options to replace him. With scores of 2 and 3 in Perth, he hasn't reach double figures in his last 10 innings. And selectors might have to bite the bullet and make a call before it's too late.
