New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is planning to extensively improve its school infrastructure, starting with the transformation of Navyug School, Pandara Road into a model institution. Initially, there was a plan to carry out a detailed revamp of Navyug School at Vinay Marg and Sarojini Nagar separately. However, it was realised that repair works were pending in 13 other schools under the building maintenance department-II, and both proposals were merged. NDMC is now working on a revised proposal to enhance the infrastructure at 15 schools. The proposal for administrative approval and expenditure sanction of Rs 9.5 crore for the comprehensive improvement of the schools will be placed soon in a council meeting. "A proposal was presented in the last council meeting on Thursday. However, considering that the project for undertaking civil work was first proposed in 2021, the department was asked to specify reasons for the delay while tabling the budget again," said an NDMC official. The schools include Aadarsh Atal Bal Vidhyalaya at Mandir Marg, Moti Marg, Netaji Nagar, B Avenue, DG Block and Babu Market; Navyug School Northwest Moti Bagh; Aanchal School; Kautilya Marg School; and Kitchner Road School. The proposed works include flooring, painting, kota stone work, waterproofing treatment, and repairing walls and roofs. In July 2021, Navyug School, Sarojini Nagar was first inspected by the former NDMC chairman along with its secretary and the director (education), and the department was asked to carry out various civil works. "Accordingly, tenders were invited in June 2022, but the project could not be materialised as the validity of the tender expired. Later, a revised estimate of Rs 3.8 crore was prepared in Dec 2022, and a separate plan for 13 more schools was prepared. Later on, all projects were compiled, and 15 schools were proposed to be revamped for Rs 9.5 crore," the proposal stated. The process has also started to convert all primary classes from I to V into smart ones. "It includes learning through technological tools and the integration of technology and education, and involves the use of visual and audio modes," said an official. The project is in the tendering phase for setting up 346 smart classrooms across all 43 NDMC and Navyug schools, with the work expected to start in the fiscal year 2024-25. NDMC has also approved the procurement of over 6,000 tablets for the students of classes X to XII, said the official. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . The official 'Air Force One' plane, the mythical blue and white 747 that carries the US President, landed at 5:30 pm at February 4 International Airport. Joe Biden, who is in Angola at the invitation of his counterpart João Lourenço, was received at the Presidential Complex of the 04 de Fevereiro International Airport by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António. The reception committee included the Chargé d'Affaires and Acting Ambassador of the United States to Angola, James Story, the Angolan Ambassador to the United States, Agostinho Van-Dúnem, among other personalities from the Angolan Government and the American administration. The visit of the US President recognizes Angola's role as a regional leader and will reaffirm the true transformation of the relationship between both states. The two countries work together to address pressing and critical challenges, such as improving infrastructure in Africa and enhancing economic opportunities and sustainable development on the continent. The expansion of technologies and scientific cooperation, the strengthening of peace and security, and the strengthening of food security are also other priorities defined by the parties in their strategic relationship. With this visit, they will have the opportunity to assess the effectiveness of existing agreements and to project new areas of investment, involving the private sector in particular. During the three-day visit, the highlight will be a meeting with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, on Tuesday, to address the future strategy of bilateral cooperation relations. On the same day, Biden is going to visit the Museum of Slavery, where he will deliver a speech to highlight the enduring strength and relevance of U.S. relations with Angola and Africa, overall, in addressing a wide range of global challenges. Located in Morro da Cruz, in the city of Luanda, the National Museum of Slavery is an important cultural heritage of Angola that is dedicated to the preservation of the collective memory of the 500 years of slavery to which Angolans were subjected. Inaugurated in 1997, this important information system is filled with artifacts of high historical value that preserve and report the long history of slavery in Angolan territory. On Wednesday, Joe Biden will travel to the province of Benguela, where he will learn about the Grupo Cart factory, as well as visit the Port of Lobito, an important infrastructure of the Lobito Corridor. Founded on March 24, 1928, the Porto is one of the largest seaport compounds in the country. The Port is the head of the Benguela Railway, which brings cargo from the city of Tenque, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. President Joe Biden's agenda in Benguela also includes participation in the Angola/US Business Forum. The US President leaves the country on Wednesday, from Catumbela airport, in Benguela province. Angola and the US are strategic partners, with political-diplomatic and cooperation relations that have increased significantly for 30 years, leading to the signing of several legal instruments in the social, commercial and business fields. The rapprochement with the Americans has made Angola the third largest creditor of the US with a debt that has grown by 223 percent in the last seven years. The arrival of João Lourenço to the Government in 2017 led to a redefinition of the country's priorities in terms of relations with the main world powers, with a more open approach to the United States of America (USA). Therefore, Joe Biden's visit is a new window for attracting new American investors, who can take advantage of the improved business environment in Angola to diversify their investments. It is hoped that with this State mission, the two countries will find platforms of understanding adjusted to the reality of their respective peoples, capable of providing mutual advantages and diversifying existing cooperation. Currently, the cooperation relations between the two countries have their legal framework based on a General Agreement that operates in the most varied areas of the country's economic and social life, with a strong presence in the areas of infrastructure, trade, industry, agriculture, health, media, transport, food security, among others. President-elect Donald Trump’s self-professed affinity for revenge, vindictiveness and retribution might lead a cynic to presume that his plans for steep tariffs on Mexican, Chinese and Canadian imports are aimed at California. The state’s imports and exports exceeded $628 billion last year, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Exports created nearly 600,000 jobs in 2021 , according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. The freighters floating in and out of the Golden Gate carry roughly $10 billion worth of goods to the Port of San Francisco alone each year, according to estimates from the California Association of Port Authorities. Trump announced last week that on his first day in office he will impose a 25% tariff on all goods entering the U.S. from Mexico and Canada and add an additional 10% to existing tariffs on Chinese imports. China, Mexico and Canada were the state’s biggest, second-biggest and seventh-biggest source of imports in 2023, according to the federal commerce department. Many economists agree that all Americans could experience higher prices . Yet with the potential of retaliatory tariffs, port cities like San Francisco will pay a heavy price. Trump, who lost California by an average of more than 4 million votes in each of the past three elections, has repeatedly berated the state, lamenting when president that it was “going to hell.” It is hard to imagine that he is losing sleep over the price to be paid by those living in a state that has spurned him. Yet, like most assumptions about politics and economics, the reality is far more complicated. While California is home to the nation's busiest ports, the hardest-hit communities will be in the heart of MAGA country — small rural communities such as Fulton, Mississippi and Gibson County, Indiana, where residents voted overwhelmingly for Trump. Fulton, a town of less than 5,000 people in Itawamba County, is located on Mississippi-Alabama border. Trump received nearly 90% of the county’s vote in November. The city sits on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway which flows into the Gulf of Mexico 300 miles to its south and has been a trading center since the 1700s. Today, the region produces metal parts used globally in manufacturing refrigerators as well as piping and other products. More than half of Itawamba County’s economy was based on exports in 2017, according to a Pew Research Center analysis at the time. Only six counties in the nation relied more heavily on international trade at that time than Itawamba. A trade war would hurt San Francisco, which would need to rely even more heavily on economic contributions from tourists, conventioneers and high-tech entrepreneurs. Itawamba County doesn’t have as many options. A similar story could be told about Gibson County, Indiana, where Trump received about 75% of the vote. The county is home to a sprawling Toyota manufacturing plant, mostly for American consumption. However, it also ships thousands of vehicles to Mexico and Canada. Pew estimated in 2017 that more than 40% of its economy was based on foreign trade. None of this diminishes the threat Trump’s tariffs pose to California. From petroleum, automobiles and computer accessories flowing in, to the wine, nuts, rice and computer technology flowing out, trade has long been a pillar of the state’s economy. Some doubt that Trump is serious about imposing the tariffs, suggesting he put them out there only as a bargaining chip to sway countries to crack down on the flow of drugs and immigrants into the U.S. Yet it is hard to not take Trump’s pledge seriously when he repeatedly said on the campaign trail that “tariff’’ is his favorite word, as well as the most beautiful word , in the English language. Trump has shown no affection for California, whose immigration and environmental policies he vows to override, and whose governor he refers to as “Gavin Newscum.” However, as hard as California will feel the effects of his trade policies if enacted, his supporters in MAGA country will feel them even harder. Sean Dyche insists he doesn't need a set-piece coach and his old-school methods are the way forward - claiming he's 'got the wrong staff' at Everton if they can't work things out for themselves Everton have no set-piece coach, with likes of Arsenal reaping rewards with one The Toffees have the second best record from dead balls, behind the Gunners LISTEN NOW to It's All Kicking Off! : Why can't Chelsea win the league? They made seven changes and still scored five. Do you think Liverpool could do that? By LEWIS STEELE Published: 22:30 GMT, 5 December 2024 | Updated: 22:30 GMT, 5 December 2024 e-mail View comments For all the talk and eulogising of set-piece coaches in 2024, and Arsenal ’s Nicolas Jover in particular, Everton boss Sean Dyche believes his old-school plan of going without is still paying dividends. Since the boss took over at Goodison Park, Everton have scored more goals than all but the Gunners from dead-ball situations in the Premier League – and the Toffees do not have a set-piece specialist on the coaching staff. But Dyche – who joked he was a ‘dinosaur’ – is adamant his team are using set-pieces as a big asset even without one, with those duties delegated to his trusted lieutenants Steve Stone and Ian Woan, plus lead performance analyst Matthew Hawkes. Asked why his old-school approach has served him so well, Dyche said: ‘Because I’m a dinosaur! No, on a serious note... the way I look at it, my staff have got goodness knows how many games playing. I’m going to say around 1,000. ‘I’ve got 1,000 myself in playing, development coaching, youth team coaching, manager. So if we cannot design a set-piece with a group of analysts – who can see everything that happens on a set-piece of the opposition or us – then I’ve got the wrong staff. ‘So therefore, with that depth of knowledge, I’d use them. I am happy to pass it over to them. That’s not to say there is not a reason for set-piece coaches – that’s up to managers and staff and football directors. Sean Dyche has insisted he doesn't need a set-piece coach amid the rise of the idea Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have enjoyed heavy success from set-pieces in the last two season They scored two more from set-pieces on Wednesday, taking total to 22 since start of last season ‘Seven or eight years ago everyone was like, “Why are you worried about set-pieces? Get it down and play”. Now everyone has re-realised that set-pieces matter! For a long, long time a rough figure is that 25 per cent of goals are from set-pieces. So why wouldn’t you use them?’ Everton’s free-kicks and corners caused havoc on Wednesday in a thumping 4-0 win over Wolves – to end a run of five winless and four without even scoring – and Dyche believes this can be a big weapon in Saturday’s Merseyside Derby. Asked if they were back on point with set-pieces, he added: ‘Not just with delivery but the body language and intent to go and score is different when teams are on it. We looked back there. Read More Torrents of water seen leaking into stands at new Everton stadium AGAIN months before they move in Freedom is the wrong word but intent is better – attack the ball and only see the ball. ‘I told the players that. Just the intent. Jack Harrison smashed one over the bar but he was in the right place. Spot on. I commended him for that and said “fantastic, another day it flies in”. Be in the right place and go with the intent to score.’ Dyche is not fussed about the lack of credit he gets for this and said: ‘Oh, I’m not bothered. I’ve been doing it too long. Now I just get on with my business. I know how the game works, I know how to piece a team together. I get things wrong, I am a human being. ‘Everyone gets it right after the game, the hardest thing is getting it right before the game or during. TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Phil Murphy has asked the Biden administration to put more resources into an investigation of mysterious drone sightings that have been reported in New Jersey and nearby states. Murphy, a Democrat, made the request in a letter Thursday, noting that state and local law enforcement remain “hamstrung” by existing laws and policies in their efforts to successfully counteract any nefarious activity of unmanned aircraft. He posted a copy of the letter on the social media platform X . “This leaves action surrounding the (drones) squarely on the shoulders of the federal government,” Murphy said. “More federal resources are needed to understand what is behind this activity.” Murphy and other officials have repeatedly stressed that there is no evidence that the aircraft pose a national security or a public safety threat, or have a foreign nexus. The Pentagon also has said they are not U.S. military drones. The drones have drawn intense public concern and curiosity since residents first reported seeing them last month. Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia said from four to 180 aircraft have been reported to authorities since Nov. 18, appearing from dusk till 11 p.m. The flying objects have been spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, but the number of reported sightings has grown greatly since then. Drones were also spotted in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and other parts of the Mid-Atlantic region. The FBI, Federal Aviation Administration and other state and federal agencies involved in the investigation have not corroborated any of the reported sightings with electronic detection, and reviews of available images appear to show many of the reported drones are actually manned aircraft. They also say there have been no confirmed sightings in restricted air space. It’s also possible that a single drone has been seen and reported more than once, officials said. Some federal lawmakers have called on the military to “shoot down” the drones. The drones also appear to avoid detection by traditional methods such as helicopter and radio, according to a state lawmaker who was briefed by the Department of Homeland Security. In one case, a medevac helicopter was unable to pick up a seriously injured car accident victim in Branchburg Township in Somerset County late last month due to drones hovering near the planned landing zone, according to NJ.com. The FAA said Thursday that it does not have a report on this incident. Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use but are subject to local and FAA regulations and flight restrictions. Operators must be FAA certified. Witnesses say the drones they think they have seen in New Jersey appear to be larger than those typically used by hobbyists.
