Reform UK says it has gained 20,000 grassroots supporters in the four days since accused of faking its membership numbers. The party surged past 150,000 paid-up backers on Sunday, with insiders saying the row with the had contributed to a spike in sign-ups. Mr Farage told The Telegraph that many Conservatives were privately “deeply embarrassed” by her actions and renewed his call for her to apologise. Reform’s on Sunday showed that the party had more than 152,000 signed-up grassroots supporters. That was up by more than 20,000 on Boxing Day, when the party said it by exceeding their tally of 131,680. It means that Reform now has the second biggest membership of any political party in the UK, behind only which has 367,000 supporters. Reform sources said the row sparked by Mrs Badenoch had “helped” propel the surge in new membership sign-ups over the past few days. In posts on X, earlier this week Mrs Badenoch accused Mr Farage of “fakery” and of bombarding the public with “endless lies, smoke and mirrors”. Reform then invited several media outlets, including The Telegraph, to examine the system. That demonstration provided strong evidence that the ticker was based on verified membership data logged in real time through a third-party website. Zia Yusuf, the party chairman, has since openly mocked her over the spike in support following her claims, telling her: “Thank you for your service.” Mr Farage has demanded that she apologise for the claims and has threatened to take legal action against her if she refuses to do so. He told The Telegraph: “Many of my friends who are still in the are deeply embarrassed by her behaviour. I await my apology.” The party had 40,000 members in June, when Mr Farage returned to lead it into the , at which it won over four million votes. Since then it has gained a further 110,000 supporters in less than seven months, adding backers at a rate of 15,700 every four weeks. If it were to keep up that pace of sign-ups, Reform and become the UK’s biggest political party in February 2026. The party only hit the 100,000-member mark at the end of November, meaning that it has added 50,000 new supporters in the space of a month. , a former Tory minister who defected to Reform earlier this year, said that Mrs Badenoch’s claim the figures were faked was “immature”. She said: “They’re worried because they realise that the more activists you get, the more leaflets get delivered, the more your messaging gets out there. “Now it’s gone too far and what Kemi did in virtually accusing Nigel of fraud, I think that’s trampled on any potential relationship.” It comes after a major poll released on Sunday showed that Reform is on course for a major parliamentary breakthrough at the next election, winning 71 MPs. Six Labour Cabinet ministers including Ed Miliband, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. Separate claims emerged on Sunday that Mrs Badenoch has privately complained to the boss of over the coverage it gives Mr Farage. He has a primetime show on the channel which also features other presenters from Reform including Lee Anderson, one of the party’s MPs. According to , the Tory leader has urged Angelos Frangopoulos, the channel’s chief executive, to cut their airtime. The paper said she told him at a meeting before Christmas that GB News shouldn’t be “a haven for my critics” and raised the spectre of regulatory action. Allies of Mrs Badenoch strongly denied the reports, insisting they were “nonsense”. A spokesman for GB News said that “the meeting took place without any acrimony and was very constructive”. In response, Mr Farage said: “Kemi talks about competition being a good thing but now we see that she wants me taken off air. “Maybe her first priority should be to go on GB News today and apologise for calling me dishonest. Her two days of silence is deafening.” Mr Anderson said the story showed that the Tories were “rattled” by Reform’s success.Fantasy Baseball: Kyle Tucker goes to Cubs in trade that clears Matt Shaw's path, raises Isaac Paredes' value

How a NASA Senior Database Administrator Manifested her Dream JobThe Eagle Valley girls volleyball team had four players named to the Western Slope all-league team for the 2024 season. Aspen Misch and Taylor Hooper earned first-team recognition and Zakia Shreeve and Riley Weatherred were named to the second team. Misch was also invited to play in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State game on Nov. 24. The Devils placed second in the league with an 8-4 record, finishing behind only Battle Mountain (12-0) in the Western Slope standings. They were ousted in the regional tournament on Nov. 11 after falling to Palmer Ridge 3-1 and Green Mountain 3-0. The Huskies later faced Palmer Ridge in the state tournament, but were swept by the defending state champions. “We challenged ourselves to be our best at regionals and I believe we did that,” head coach Mike Garvey stated. “We came out ready to play and stole the first set 25-14. “We competed all night, but just were not the better team.” Coming off an undefeated league record in 2022 and a 2023 season which saw a senior-heavy squad take the Devils to their first state tournament since 2016 , Garvey said before this year began that his current team would need to believe in themselves and embrace the opportunities at hand. In addition to the competitiveness displayed at regionals, the coach said he witnessed growth throughout the season. “We learned many things,” he stated. “The team always responded well when we made mistakes and had to go to the next level in both practice and matches.” Misch had the most blocks on the team (66) and finished tops in hitting percentage (0.264). Hooper — who also was an all-league honorable mention athlete as a sophomore in 2022 — was second in kills (151). Shreeve led the team in kills (163) and aces (61) while Weatherred was tops in assists (289) and second in digs (184) and aces (37). The Devils graduate seven seniors — including all of the above mentioned players except Weatherred, who will be a junior next year — but Garvey is optimistically looking ahead to next fall. “We return four players and our rising senior class is a positive and energetic group,” he said.
Dec. 23, 2024 (HealthDay News) -- Poison experts see it every winter holiday season: Parents rush kids to the emergency room or call hotlines, panicking that their child has ingested something dangerous. Between holiday breaks, visiting relatives' homes, attending festivities, and opening gifts galore, kids face extra risks for accidental exposure to poison. In addition to heart felt season’s greetings, the Nebraska Poison Center sends out reminders that changes in routine may increase risks for kids. Poison experts urge parents and party hosts to remember safety best practices. • Pretty holiday plants aren't edible. Keep small children and animals away from mistletoe, holly berries, yew plants and poinsettias. • Be mindful of small batteries. Toys, games, watches, remotes, and musical greeting cards may contain button or disc batteries. If swallowed, they can become stuck and cause serious injury or death if not removed. • Watch out for water beads and magnets in toys . Expanding water beads and rare earth magnets are inappropriate for those who may ingest them. Strong magnets can stick together in the intestines and trigger a medical emergency. If water beads are swallowed, they may swell and cause a blockage in the intestines. • Be on the lookout for nicotine-containing products, including vape liquid and chewing tobacco, as well as CBD and THC products . These are often in brightly colored packaging that can easily be mistaken for candy or other food items for children. If swallowed by youngsters, nicotine may cause shakiness, vomiting or seizures. Keep these items away from common areas, locked and out of reach. • Lock up cleaning cabinets. Cleansers, laundry pods, and other cleaning products should also be stored out of sight. Do not mix chemicals together when cleaning and follow all label directions for using these products. • Remind relatives without small children about the importance of child-proofing prescription drugs . Encourage friends and family to store medications up, out of sight and locked up tight, not out on a nightstand or counter. Keep all purses and travel bags secured. • Be vigilant about the bar and alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are more readily accessible during gatherings. Clean immediately after gatherings and remove all items that may contain alcohol. Sadly, the holiday season can bring joy and grief simultaneously. As seasonal calls to the Poison Center concerning children increase, so do calls about intentional harm. If you or a loved one are having thoughts of self-harm or are in a crisis, remember that you are not alone. Call 988 to reach the 24/7 National Suicide and Crisis Line for help. Prevention is the best way to avoid and minimize poisonings. The Poison Center’s specially trained registered nurses and pharmacists are available 24/7/365. If you have questions or suspect poisoning exposure, call 1-800-222-1222. Your call will be routed to a local poison control center. Poison Center services are free and confidential. President Biden announced he would commute the sentences of 37 out of 40 federal death row inmates, including child murderers and rapists. The 'Fox & Friends' co-hosts react to the 'shocking' news. The inmates on federal death row whose lives were spared by President Biden after he commuted their sentences have killed victims across all facets of American society, ranging from a sailor to children as young as 8 years old. Biden announced Monday that he commuted the sentences of 37 of the 40 inmates on federal death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole because he is "more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level." "Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss," Biden added. "In good conscience, I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that I halted." Among those who have been spared are Jorge Avila-Torrez, a Marine veteran found guilty of killing Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Amanda Snell inside of her barracks in Arlington, Virginia, in July 2009. ‘SQUAD’ DEMOCRAT APPLAUDS BIDEN FOR SPARING MURDERERS FROM ‘RACIST’ DEATH PENALTY Federal prosecutors said Avila-Torrez confessed to an inmate that he "entered Snell’s room through her unlocked door, jumped on her as she slept in her bed, bound her wrists with the power cord from her laptop computer and strangled her with the rest of the cord." Then years later, Avila-Torrez pleaded guilty to stabbing 8-year-old Laura Hobbs and 9-year-old Krystal Tobias to death on Mother’s Day 2005 in Zion, Illinois, and was told by a judge that he was a "serial killer," according to The Associated Press. Marine veteran Jorge Avila-Torrez, who pleaded guilty to killing Tobias and Hobbs, reportedly was a friend of Tobias' older brother at the time of their deaths. (Zion Police Department/Getty Images) Another inmate spared by Biden is Daryl Lawrence, who was convicted of killing Columbus Police Officer Bryan Hurst in 2005. The Justice Department, which posthumously awarded Hurst the Medal of Valor, said he was working uniformed special duty at a bank when a masked gunman entered and the two exchanged fire. "In spite of receiving a mortal wound, Hurst maneuvered around the counter and fired at the suspect before he collapsed. Authorities apprehended the gunman several days later when he sought medical attention at a hospital in Washington, D.C.," it added. "Officer Hurst's quick action, exceptional courage, and persistence protected the lives of the many people at the bank." BIDEN COMMUTES 1,500 JAIL SENTENCES, GRANTS PARDONS FOR 39 OTHERS: ‘LARGEST SINGLE-DAY GRANT OF CLEMENCY’ Thomas Sanders also will no longer face the federal death penalty despite being found guilty for the "brutal kidnapping and murder" of 12-year-old Lexis Roberts in 2010. In that case, prosecutors said Sanders was dating Roberts’ mother Suellen Roberts, whom he fatally shot in the head near Interstate 40 in Arizona during a trip to a wildlife park near the Grand Canyon over Labor Day weekend. He then forced Lexis into a vehicle and held her captive as he traveled east. Thomas Sanders and Suellen Roberts, 31, the mother of 12-year-old Lexis Roberts, in undated photos provided by the FBI. Sanders was found guilty of killing Roberts in Arizona in 2010 and then kidnapping and murdering Lexis days later. (FBI) "Sanders drove several days across the country before he murdered Lexis Roberts in a wooded area in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana," the Justice Department said . "Evidence at trial established that Sanders shot Lexis Roberts four times, cut her throat, and left her body in the woods where a hunter found her body on October 8, 2010." Other inmates who were once on federal death row include Alejandro Umana, an MS-13 gang member who fatally shot brothers Ruben and Manuel Garcia Salinas at a restaurant in Greensboro, North Carolina, in December 2007 "after they ‘disrespected’ his gang signs by calling them ‘fake,’" according to federal prosecutors. Anthony Battle, who killed prison guard D’Antonio Andrew Washington with a ball-peen hammer inside a maximum-security unit at an Atlanta facility in 1994, has been spared as well. Correctional Officer D'Antonio Andrew Washington was killed by inmate Anthony Battle at USP Atlanta in 1994. (Federal Bureau of Prisons/U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General) Amnesty International USA, a supporter of Biden’s decision, said Monday that the "death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment" and Biden’s move is "a big moment for human rights."
