Two Oregon men were found dead in a Washington state forest after they failed to return from a trip to look for Sasquatch, authorities said Saturday. The 59-year-old and 37-year-old appear to have died from exposure, the Skamania County Sheriff's Office said via Facebook. The weather and the men's lack of preparedness led the office to draw that conclusion, it said. Sasquatch is a folkloric beast thought by some to roam the forests, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. The two men were found in a heavily wooded area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, which is about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northeast of Portland. A family member reported them missing at around 1 a.m. on Christmas Day after they failed to return from a Christmas Eve outing. Sixty volunteer search-and-rescue personnel helped in the three-day search, including canine, drone and ground teams. The Coast Guard used infrared technology to search from the air. Authorities used camera recordings to locate the vehicle used by the pair off Oklahoma Road near Willard, which is on the southern border of the national forest.

The iconic ITV show made a triumphant return last weekend, with a selection of famous faces uniting in the Australian jungle in the name of reality TV. But fans have noticed that a fan-favourite part of the show is missing and has been since the show began on Sunday. On Reddit, fans have spotted how the celebrities in this year's series are yet to do a proper eating trial. "We’ve now had 4 trails and none of them have been an eating trail, just seems kinda strange as there is usually one in the first 4 or so," said one person. Another agreed, "Yeah all they have had is confined space trials this year." Read More about I'm A Celeb "They're probably so desperate for a bit of animal protein thanks to Dean they'd probably wolf down whatever was put in front of them without thinking too much," said a third. A fourth then penned, "Has it only been like 4 days, and it started with a gross milkshake," referring to the disgusting shake the celebrities were given when they arrived. While a fifth said, "Eating trials seem to be quite popular. They maybe waiting for the right time. I'm guessing Saturday to help gain the viewers maybe?" And a sixth added, "I'm glad. I think they are the most boring." Now 66, he was unrecognizable when he was seen at LAX on Friday, with a large festive white beard obscuring his memorable features just before Christmas . He first became a movie star in the late 1980s, featuring in a classic sports drama whose leading lady became his real-life girlfriend. They were frequently cited as a rare example of a long-lasting Hollywood relationship, only for their romance to fall apart after 21 years . Tim cut a stylish figure during his latest sighting, wearing a moss green checked coat over a black t-shirt and a set of fashionably dark jeans. His best- remembered work role is the wrongly convicted prisoner Andy Dufresne in the 1994 drama The Shawshank Redemption. The picture, based on a novel by Stephen King, saw Tim cast alongside Morgan Freeman and is often listed as one of the best films ever made. Born in Los Angeles and raised partly in New York, Tim came from an artistic family - his father was the 1960s folk musician Gil Robbins of The Highwaymen fame. Early in his acting career, Tim appeared on such beloved TV shows as the hospital drama St. Elsewhere and Bruce Willis' star-making detective comedy Moonlighting. In 1981, Tim founded a Los Angeles theater troupe called the Actors' Gang, whose early membership included the young John Cusack. The leader of Kurdish separatist group PKK said he’s ready to cooperate with the Turkish government in a bid to end a long-running conflict that’s claimed thousands of lives, according to a statement by the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party, or DEM, on Sunday. “Re-strengthening the Turkish-Kurdish fellowship has not only become a historical responsibility, but also of fateful importance and urgency for all peoples,” Abdullah Ocalan was cited as saying. “I am ready to take the necessary positive step and make the necessary call,” he said when a party delegation met him on Saturday at Imrali Island, where he’s been imprisoned since his capture in 1999. “I have the competence and determination to contribute positively to the new paradigm that Mr. Bahceli and Mr. Erdogan are empowering,” Ocalan said in the statement, referring to the leader of the ultra-nationalist MHP party Devlet Bahceli and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In October, Bahceli had called for Ocalan’s solitary confinement to be lifted and for him to be allowed to speak in parliament and urge the PKK to lay down arms. Erdogan supported his ally’s call. Bahceli’s remarks were seen as an unexpected shift, given his party’s historically hard-line stance against the Kurdish movement. One day after Bahceli’s call, PKK attacked Turkish state defense firm Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc., killing five people. PKK said at the time that the attack had been planned “a long time ago” and wasn’t connected to the recent “political agenda.” Although Ocalan no longer directs the PKK’s day-to-day operations, he’s still revered by the movement’s commanders. At the same time, any peace deal negotiated by him would mean little if the PKK refused to sign onto it. The Kurdish-backed militant group, which has been waging a war for autonomy in Turkey’s southeast since 1984, is designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., Turkey and the European Union. Turkey regards the armed wing of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party of Syria, known as the People’s Protection Units or YPG, as an affiliate of PKK. YPG, which seeks autonomy for Syria’s Kurds, has shown a willingness to work with any power capable of advancing that goal. Syrian Kurds control a zone in Syria’s northeast. On Sunday, Turkey’s Industry and Technology Minister Fatih Kacir announced a new initiative aimed at revitalizing the country’s southeast, an area long affected by clashes with the PKK. The plan, to include $14 billion in investments over the next three years, focuses on agriculture in the region where the population is mostly Kurdish. The southeastern provinces, once a center of intense fighting between PKK and Turkish military, have struggled with underdevelopment and economic instability. ©2024 Bloomberg L.P.
