Autodesk earnings beat by $0.05, revenue topped estimatesThe National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chief Davidson Alaribe FCA, has advocated for ethical practice and professionalism among the practitioners. Alaribe stated this at the inauguration of Omokemi Oladipo as the pioneer Chairman of the Lagelu and District Society. He charged the leadership of the newly created district to prioritize mentorship as a key strategy to attract and retain new members. The ICAN national president also used the occasion to officially inaugurate the Lagelu District and Society as a new geographical district and 74th of the Institute with the aimed of enhancing ICAN’s outreach and expanding its influence in the southwestern part of Nigeria. The inauguration and investiture of Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo FCA, held on Saturday, November 23 in Ibadan, and attracted numerous prominent personalities from the accounting and business communities. Speaking at the event, the ICAN president who showered encomium on newly sworn in chairman of Lagelu District of the Institute, emphasized that mentorship plays a crucial role in guiding young accountants through their professional journeys and also helps them navigate the complexities of the accounting profession. While stressing the need for the Lagelu District leadership to uphold ethical conduct, practice, and high level professionalism in the discharge of their duties, Alaribe urged Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo to actively engage in mentorship programs and education that will not only support the career growth of aspiring accountants but also create a sustainable pipeline of qualified professionals for the future. He called on the pioneer executive members of Lagelu District and other members to cooperate and support Chief Mrs. Oladipo in her new designation, and to ensure that the ICAN brand in the district remains united and cohesive devoid of any form of divisive tendencies. “Mentorship is at the heart of our profession’s growth. As we continue to expand and strengthen our membership base, we must focus on nurturing the next generation of accountants. “By deepening a culture of mentorship, we can ensure that more young professionals, especially those who don’t even want to be stressed by the nitty gritty of accounting, are inspired and equipped to join ICAN and contribute to the growth of the profession.” Chief Alaribe said. Keynote speaker, Mr Patterson Ariemuduigho (FCA), also emphasized the importance of maintaining unity of purpose and cohesiveness, which he said remains the strength of the Institute. He equally expressed confidence in Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo led leadership of the Lagelu District in driving the vision of ICAN to an enviable height. The chairman of the day, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Oodua Investment Company Limited, Mr Abdulrahaman Yinusa (FCA), in his short address, congratulated the newly sworn in Lagelu District executive committee and assured that his company will continue to play its important role as a partner in progress to provide the needed support which also includes advisory role for both the national Institute and the new district. One of the leaders of the Institute, Dr Oyebade Oyedepo, in his paper presentation titled: “Breaking Barriers; Expanding Frontiers” highlighted various types of barriers accountants encounter in the discharge of their duties to include internal and external, as well as the impacts of such barriers, while equally providing key guides to preventing and mitigating such barriers. While highlighting some of the attributes required for breaking barriers in the profession to include courage, resilience, innovative thinking, strong determination and discipline, Dr Oyedepo expressed conviction that the Lagelu District of ICAN under the leadership of Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo would embrace the points raised in the paper to soar high beyond limit. “I believe they can do it, particularly with the pedigree of the convener, Mr Biodun Adedeji (FCA) and the pioneer chairman Chief (Mrs.) Omokemi Oladipo FCA, I can attest to their outstanding performance and forthrightness.” Dr Oyedepo said. In her acceptance speech, Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo, who was the immediate past chairman of Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Ibadan branch; the women wing of ICAN, thanked the national president of ICAN and other regional and zonal leaders for their physical presence at the event. She expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and promised to work diligently towards the growth of the district. She reiterated her commitment to promoting ICAN’s core values, fostering a collaborative environment for members, and ensuring that the Lagelu District becomes a model of excellence in the accounting community. She equally thanked the Institute and her colleagues for trusting her and expressing their confidence in her abilities with the new role of steering the affairs of the new ICAN district as a pioneer chairman, assuring that she would not let them down, while promising an inclusive governance to ensure all members have equal sense of belonging and participation. While noting that her swearing in and official inauguration of the Lagelu District marked a significant milestone for ICAN in its mission to expand its influence and enhance the professional lives of accountants in the state and nation, Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo reaffirmed her commitment to uphold and preserve the reputation of the Institute as a respected brand while driving her vision forward. Together, we will ensure that the Lagelu District becomes a beacon of professionalism, where ethical practices are not just encouraged but ingrained in every member’s approach to their work”, She said. Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo however, dedicated her career accomplishments to her husband; Chief Olabode Oladipo, the Bobadara of Osooro kingdom, Ikale, Ondo state, for believing in her dream and providing all the needed support and motivation to actualize her dream both in her professional career and at home as wife and mother. Earlier, the Lubokun IV, Rebuja of Osooro kingdom, and royal father of the day, HRM, Oba Gbadebo Bajowa, who was represented by a high-powered delegation, expressed delight in the career achievements of Chief (Mrs.) Oladipo, describing her as a brilliant and leading light even as a little child. The National Basketball Association (NBA) is taking a first step back into the huge Chinese market with two preseason games set to take place in Macao next October, five years after the league was effectively blocked from China. The Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns will play the preseason games on October 10 and 12 at the Venetian Arena next year, while an NBA Flagship Store will also open in Macao. "Bringing preseason games to Macao will showcase the excitement of the NBA to fans in one of the world's emerging hubs for sports," NBA Deputy Commissioner and COO Mark Tatum said in a press release. "The Nets and the Suns feature an exciting mix of established and rising stars, and we look forward to engaging fans, aspiring players and the local community in Macao through these games and a variety of interactive events, youth development programs and social impact initiatives." NBA teams command a huge following in China, where basketball is wildly popular. The league has not staged a game in the country since 2019, when a tweet in support of pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong from the Houston Rockets' then general manager Daryl Morey sparked a political firestorm. At the time, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver refused to punish or censor Morey – who is currently the Philadelphia 76ers' president of basketball operations – prompting ire from Beijing and leading the sports station of China's central broadcaster to stop showing the league's games for a year. Hong Kong was roiled by pro-democracy protests in 2019, which at times brought several hundreds of thousands of people onto the streets to push for democracy in the city. Like Macao, Hong Kong is considered a special administrative region of China, partly distinct from the mainland. Beijing repeatedly accused Western democratic forces of working to fuel the popular Hong Kong protests and lashed out at any support for the movement, which died out in 2020 when the capital imposed a sweeping national security law on the city. Silver said two years ago that the NBA had lost "hundreds of millions of dollars" in revenue following the fallout with China, with whom the league had shared a long-standing relationship. According to Reuters, 17 NBA teams played 28 games in China between 2004 and 2019. However, tensions between the league and the country now appear to have thawed, with a legends game featuring six former NBA stars set be held in Macao on Saturday. "We always love the opportunity to compete on the global stage and we are grateful to participate in the NBA China Games 2025," said Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks. "The Brooklyn Nets have an incredible fanbase around the globe and we can't wait to bring our love of the game directly to our fans while giving our players and coaches the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture." Phoenix Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein, meanwhile, added that playing in Macao is part of the team's vision to "bring the Suns to a global audience and impact fans across the world."Commentary: On health matters, Robert F. AP Sports SummaryBrief at 4:50 p.m. ESTWhat's the secret to finding mega-winner stocks like Amazon and Nvidia before they soar? It's not a secret. You just need to spot a company that's uniquely positioned to capitalize on a real opportunity before most other investors do the same. Problem? It's much easier said than done. For every Amazon and Nvidia out there, there are also a bunch of high-profile implosions like AOL (and then Yahoo!), BlackBerry , and Groupon . Not every well-touted ticker lives up to the hype. The company in question must truly offer a game-changing product or service, but it's not always clear if and when they do. When they do, however, then wow! With that as the backdrop, risk-tolerant investors on the hunt for a prospective mega-winner might want to put QuantumScape ( QS 2.38% ) on their radar if not in their portfolio. This company may be on the verge of getting electric vehicles over one of their tallest hurdles. Electric vehicles are struggling with major marketability problems Never heard of QuantumScape? Don't sweat it. The company's $2.5 billion market cap doesn't turn many heads. It's also a pre-revenue company, deterring even more investors. Nevertheless, there's enough potential here to merit a look. In simplest terms, QuantumScape designs and manufactures superior lithium batteries. It's not exactly a new science. Lithium-based batteries have been found in most common consumer electronics for years now. Tesla 's very first car -- the Roadster -- also used lithium-ion batteries when it first began production back in 2008. With automobile manufacturers recognizing this material's energy-storage capacity was necessary to make EVs viable, nearly every electric vehicle made since then has followed suit. And for most EV owners most of the time, these batteries are adequate. Anybody keeping their finger on the pulse of the electric vehicle movement, however, likely knows sales growth is slowing. Although the market itself is still expanding, J.D. Power's Autovista24 reports sales growth of battery-powered cars and plug-in hybrids slowed to a pace of 22% during the first half of this year, down from the year-earlier growth rate of 35%. The still-young industry was hoping for acceleration at this stage of the game. Causes for this headwind include high upfront costs, a lack of fast-charging infrastructure, and poor battery life. Perhaps more than anything, though, would-be EV owners worry about a limited driving range on a single charge without a convenient recharging option at their destination. QuantumScape's technology addresses all of these concerns. The world's ready for QuantumScape's superior tech It's called a solid-state battery. The term doesn't mean much to the average consumer, or even a prospective electric vehicle owner. But it should. QuantumScape says its solid-state lithium batteries not only store and then deliver more power, but can do so for longer than the typical lithium-ion battery used in electric vehicles does today. The numbers: Electric vehicles that can be driven 350 miles on a single charge of a common lithium-based battery pack can be driven between 400 and 500 miles using one of QuantumScape's solid-state batteries. They're also capable of faster charging without damage (up to 80% capacity in 15 minutes or less). Perhaps most important, testing of QuantumScape's batteries suggests they'll still be able to hold a 95% charge even after 1,000 charges. That's roughly 300,000 miles' worth of usage. As was noted, the company hasn't commercialized anything yet. It's close, though. Just last month it began deliveries of its latest prototype to EV manufacturers. Volkswagen has already committed to a partnership with QuantumScape, in fact, even before the commercial version of its battery design is finalized. It's also encouraging to QuantumScape shareholders that last month Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the EV maker would be using solid-state lithium batteries in some of its vehicles beginning next year, although he didn't indicate where the underlying technology would come from. Dodge parent Stellantis intends to begin tinkering with the tech in 2026. Connect the dots. This is the future. Indeed, as solid-state batteries benefit from the EV market's growth, they may also help reaccelerate its expansion. In this vein, Polaris Market Research suggests the global EV battery market is set to grow at an annualized pace of nearly 19% through 2030. Solid-state batteries should drive the bulk of this growth. Straits Research, in fact, predicts the worldwide solid-state lithium battery market is poised to grow by an average rate of more than 36% during this time frame. Is QuantumScape a millionaire-maker? But the question remains -- could a $10,000 investment in QuantumScape now grow to a million-dollar holding within a lifetime? Given the potential of its technology and the next likely chapter of the electric vehicle evolution, it's certainly possible. This company's market cap of $2.5 billion is nearly nothing compared to a solid-state lithium battery market that could eventually be worth more than $24 billion per year. Just keep the risk in perspective. There's a lot of it, beginning with the simple fact that the company isn't actually selling anything yet. It's only sitting on the prospect of selling its superior batteries. A close-second risk is the likelihood of lingering losses for long after QuantumScape officially begins commercialization of its tech. At the same time, while President-elect Donald Trump isn't likely to up-end the EV movement's growth, he can certainly rattle it. If you can stomach the risk and the rest of your portfolio is on a stronger footing, QuantumScape a compelling prospect.Austin Ekeler was concussed late in the Commanders' loss and taken to hospital for evaluation

Gwent police and crime commissioner Jane Mudd has welcomed UK Government’s plans to increase neighbourhood policing. Prime minister Keir Starmer made the commitment to recruit an additional 13,000 police officers, community support officers, and special constables in neighbourhood roles as one of the six milestones he wants the public to measure his government against at the next election. Jane Mudd said: “I welcome the commitment from the UK government to recruit more officers and enable police forces to direct more resources specifically towards neighbourhood policing. “The nature of crime, and the demands on police forces, have changed over the years and it is right that policing resources are directed according to the threat, risk and harm of the incident. However, a visible police presence in communities does provide reassurance to residents. “Ensuring that Gwent Police has the resources available to prioritise a visible policing presence is one of the commitments I made to the people of Gwent during my election campaign and will form a key part of my police and crime plan. I am pleased that the UK Government is listening to the people on this, and has committed to taking action.” A UK Government spokesperson said: "The Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee sets out what communities should expect from their neighbourhood policing team. Every neighbourhood will have a named, contactable officer, and residents and businesses will be given a voice to shape their local police priorities. In addition, every force will have a dedicated anti-social behaviour lead who will work with their communities to develop action plans that tackle the concerns seen on their streets every day. "To support this, the milestone over this Parliament is to have 13,000 additional neighbourhood policing officers, PCSOs and special constables in dedicated neighbourhood policing roles. These officers must demonstrably spend time on visible patrol and not be taken off the beat to plug shortages elsewhere. "The government is boosting the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee with £100 million, which will place a renewed focus on preventing the criminality plaguing the streets - particularly in town centres - with visible, accessible officers that will deter offending and reassure locals they will be kept safe."Baltimore (7-4) at Los Angeles Chargers (7-3) Monday, 8:15 p.m. EST, ESPN/ABC BetMGM NFL odds: Ravens by 3. Turnover differential: Ravens plus-2; Chargers plus-8. K Justin Tucker missed two field goals last week and is under pressure after spending most of his career beyond reproach. He’s missed six field goals on the season and is 4 for 12 from 50-plus yards since the start of last season. WR Ladd McConkey had a career-high 123 yards on six receptions against Cincinnati. The rookie came up with clutch catches of 28 and 27 yards to set up the game-winning touchdown. Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins vs. Ravens’ run defense. Dobbins showed promise during his time in Baltimore, but he never was able to live up to that potential because of injuries. Now in Los Angeles on a one-year “prove it” contract, Dobbins has nearly matched his most productive season as a professional with 726 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games. After seeing Pittsburgh run the ball 34 times last week, the Chargers will be glad to copy that bruising approach with Dobbins. The Ravens are allowing 77.5 rushing yards per game, but even the sturdiest defense can buckle against that volume of work, so getting off the field will be critical. Baltimore’s defense has a couple of significant injury concerns. LB Roquan Smith (hamstring) left last weekend’s game, and S Kyle Hamilton has been nursing an ankle problem, although he played against the Steelers. ... Chargers OLB Khalil Mack (groin) didn’t play against Cincinnati. If the veteran pass rusher remains out this week, it would be a big loss to the chances of containing the Ravens' multi-faceted offense. The Ravens have won four straight over the Chargers in the regular season, but Los Angeles did earn a 23-17 AFC wild-card round upset in January 2019. ... Baltimore cruised to a 34-6 win over the Chargers in its first visit to SoFi Stadium on Oct. 17, 2021. Ravens RB Derrick Henry leads the NFL with 1,185 yards rushing and 15 total TDs (13 rushing and two receiving). He’s also run for a league-high 52 first downs. ... Henry is one rushing TD shy of the Ravens’ single-season record, set by Jamal Lewis in 2003. ... Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson is 6-2 on “Monday Night Football” with 20 TD passes and no interceptions. ... Henry is one of four players in the Super Bowl era to score a TD in each of the first 11 games of a season. The others are O.J. Simpson (1975), John Riggins (1983) and Jerry Rice (1987). ... The Ravens have scored touchdowns on a league-best 77.8% of their red zone trips. ... Jackson needs 124 yards passing and 16 yards rushing for a second consecutive season with 3,000 passing and 600 rushing. Since the AFL-NFL merger, only Randall Cunningham (1988-1990), Cam Newton (2011-12), Josh Allen (2021-22) and Jalen Hurts (2021-23) have accomplished that feat. ... Dobbins ran for two touchdowns against Cincinnati, giving him multiple scores in two of his past three games. He did it twice in 24 games as a Raven. ... OLB Tuli Tuipulotu had 1 1/2 sacks of Bengals QB Joe Burrow, his third straight game with more than one. All seven of Tuipulotu’s sacks this season have come in the past four games, and six of his eight tackles for loss have come in that span. ... The Chargers allowed a season-worst 27 points to Cincinnati after holding each of their previous nine opponents to 20 points or fewer. ... QB Justin Herbert has thrown one interception in 277 attempts this season. That lone pick came in Week 2 at Carolina. ... The Chargers lost their fifth turnover of the season when Herbert fumbled to start the fourth quarter. It was their first turnover at home. ... Los Angeles does not have a takeaway in its past two games. Herbert has heated up after a slow start in terms of fantasy production, having thrown for multiple touchdowns in three of his past four games. He is likely to keep that success going this week. Baltimore has allowed 22 scores through the air, which is tied with Houston for second most in the league, and Herbert should have plenty of chances to add to that total in what could be another high-scoring matchup.
