ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Maddie Zimmer and Ilse Tromp both had two goals and an assist in the first half and Northwestern beat Saint Joseph’s 5-0 in the championship match of the NCAA Division-I women’s field hockey tournament at Phyllis Ocker Field on Sunday. It was the second championship for the second-seeded Wildcats (23-1-0), who have played for the title in four straight seasons. Northwestern beat Liberty 2-0 in 2021 before losing to North Carolina the past two seasons. No. 4 seed Saint Joseph’s (20-4-0) was in uncharted waters with its first trip to the final. The Hawks eliminated top-seeded North Carolina in the semifinals to advance. The Tar Heels have won the championship in half of their 22 trips to the final. Northwestern grabbed the lead 6:25 into the first quarter when Zimmer used an assist from Tromp to score. Zimmer had an assist on Olivia Bent-Cole’s eighth goal of the season for a 2-0 advantage, and Tromp found the net with 25 seconds left with assists from Lauren Hunter and Ashley Sessa for a 3-0 lead. Hunter and Sessa again had the helpers on Zimmer’s 10th goal of the campaign, and Hunter and Regan Cornelius assisted on Tromp’s 11th goal of the season 2:42 later for a 5-0 lead at halftime and that was that. Annabel Skubisz finished with her school-record 14th shutout of the season for Northwestern. Zimmer and Tromp are the second duo to score multiple goals for their school in a championship match. Zimmer was named the tournament MVP. It was the second championship for Wildcats coach Tracey Fuchs. Northwestern joins North Carolina and Old Dominion as the only schools to reach the championship match in four straight seasons. Six schools have won multiple titles. By Jody Godoy NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump tapped Federal Trade Commissioner Andrew Ferguson to lead the consumer protection and antitrust agency, Trump said on social media on Tuesday. Ferguson, one of two Senate-confirmed Republican FTC commissioners appointed by President Joe Biden, will be "the most America First, and pro-innovation FTC Chair in our Country’s History," Trump said. "Andrew has a proven record of standing up to Big Tech censorship, and protecting Freedom of Speech in our Great Country," Trump said on his social media platform. Ferguson has said the agency should tackle perceived censorship of conservative viewpoints online. If social media platforms collaborate to suppress such views or advertisers coordinate pulling business from platforms such as Elon Musk's X, they should be charged with violating U.S. antitrust law, Ferguson has said. "We must vigorously enforce the antitrust laws against any platforms found to be unlawfully limiting Americans' ability to exchange ideas freely and openly," Ferguson said in a recent statement. The agency became a political flashpoint under FTC Chair Lina Khan, who promoted antitrust enforcement as a check on corporate power. Her efforts won fans among some Republicans, including incoming Vice President JD Vance, but drew criticism as overly aggressive from some antitrust lawyers and business groups. Her successor will inherit a full slate of cases against Big Tech companies, a lawsuit against the three largest pharmacy benefit managers, and at least a half-dozen lawsuits by companies arguing it has outstripped its authority. It is unclear whether the incoming chair would continue with unfinished probes, including into practices at Microsoft that competitors have complained keep customers from switching to other cloud service providers, and potential privacy concerns involving OpenAI. New leadership could also shift course in two major FTC cases against Amazon.com. One takes aim at practices the agency says keep sellers bound to its platform and help Amazon unlawfully dominate the landscape for online marketplaces, and another over practices allegedly meant to trick Prime subscribers out of cancelling service. The new FTC chair would also oversee a case brought against Meta Platforms, then known as Facebook, in 2020, during Trump's first term. The agency is seeking to unwind the tech company's acquisition of Instagram and Whatsapp. But the judge overseeing the case has cast doubt on whether the agency can prevail at trial in April. The Latest: Matt Gaetz withdraws his name from consideration as Trump’s attorney generalINGLEWOOD, Calif. — When Saquon Barkley glanced up at a SoFi Stadium replay of his latest huge run for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, he happened to see a graphic indicating he had 173 yards rushing — only 16 shy of what he knew to be his career high. “I said, ‘Aw, I wish I never saw that,'" Barkley said with a grin. “That's just the devil talking, that's how I look at it. ... I'm a big believer that if it happens, it happens. Just let it come to you.” Barkley decided to continue to run for his teammates, not for records. A few carries later, both his personal best and several additional superlatives fell right to him with his second massive touchdown run on a historic night. Barkley ran for scores of 70 and 72 yards in the second half and finished with an Eagles-record 255 yards rushing in Philadelphia’s seventh consecutive victory, 37-20 over the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley racked up the ninth-most yards rushing in a game in NFL history largely thanks to his huge TD runs bookending the second half. He sprinted for a 70-yard score on the opening snap of the third quarter, and he added another huge run up the middle with 2:44 to play. “Saquon has that ability to hit home runs, and so sometimes that’s how it goes,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. "You get some short gain, short gain, short gain — boom, home run. Saquon is that type of player, and our offensive line did a good job of handling the variations of the front.” Barkley had 302 total yards — becoming the 12th player in NFL history to top 300, and the first Eagles player — while also becoming the first NFL player with two 70-yard TD runs in a game since Maurice Jones-Drew in 2009. Credit: AP/Ryan Sun Barkley leads the league with a career-best 1,392 yards rushing, including a league-best seven 100-yard rushing games in his seismic first season with Philadelphia after six frustrating years with the Giants. “To be honest, I’m not surprised,” said Barkley, a two-time Pro Bowl selection. “I didn’t know I would have this much success, (but) I’m thankful to be here. I’m thankful for the fresh start. A big reason why I wanted to come here (is) I felt like this is a spot where I could rewrite my story and show everyone the type of player that I feel like I can be and was meant to be, and it’s working out right now.” While averaging 9.8 yards per carry, Barkley obliterated the Eagles franchise records of 217 yards rushing by LeSean McCoy in 2013 and 296 total yards by Duce Staley in 2000. He also had the biggest rushing performance ever against the Rams, exceeding DeMarco Murray's 253 yards for Dallas in 2011. A.J. Brown caught six passes for 109 yards and a TD from Jalen Hurts, who threw for 179 yards while NFC East-leading Philadelphia (9-2) surged in a 24-point second half. Credit: AP/Ryan Sun Kyren Williams rushed for a score and Demarcus Robinson caught a TD pass for the Rams (5-6), who lost their second straight home game. Matthew Stafford passed for 243 yards while getting sacked five times by Philadelphia's top-ranked defense, and Los Angeles couldn't keep up with a Super Bowl contender in the second half of only its second loss in six games. Puka Nacua had nine catches for 117 yards, and Cooper Kupp caught a 27-yard touchdown pass with 1:07 to play. The Los Angeles defense gave up 480 yards, undoing several weeks of progress for a unit that also looked overmatched early in the season. “(Barkley) is getting tough, hard-earned yards, and then you give him a vertical seam like he got a couple of times,” McVay said. “He has the explosiveness and long speed and the ability to finish. That is what opened and blew the game up for him. He was outstanding.” The Eagles improved to 4-0 against the Rams in the Los Angeles area since the franchise returned home, but they led just 13-7 at halftime despite dominating both sides of the ball in the second quarter. Barkley had a mere 73 yards rushing in the first half for Philadelphia, but he broke open the game and the Rams’ defense with his deft run up the middle to start the third quarter. “He makes a cut that I didn’t think anybody else could make,” Sirianni said. “Like, he just stopped on a dime.” Los Angeles answered with Robinson's short TD catch, but Kenneth Gainwell rushed for a 13-yard TD moments later, one play after Barkley's 31-yard catch-and-run on third and long. In the final minutes, Barkley found another gaping hole in the middle of Los Angeles' defense. “One of our guys got out of the gap backside,” Rams nose tackle Kobie Turner said. "Once you give that guy space to run and now he’s up on the second level, he can make guys miss and has the speed to break away.” Injuries Eagles: CB Darius Slay (concussion) left in the second half. ... WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring) sat out for only the third time in his four-year career. ... Afterward, 15-year veteran DE Brandon Graham said he is out for the season with a torn triceps. Rams: Starting RT Rob Havenstein (ankle) missed his third straight game, and backup Warren McClendon struggled in pass protection. Up next Eagles: At Baltimore next Sunday. Rams: At New Orleans next Sunday.
Israel cracks down on Palestinian citizens who speak out against the war in Gaza UMM AL-FAHM, Israel (AP) — In the year since the war in Gaza broke out, Israel's government has been cracking down on dissent among its Palestinian citizens. Authorities have charged Palestinians with “supporting terrorism” because of posts online or for demonstrating against the war. Activists and rights watchdogs say Palestinians have also lost jobs, been suspended from schools and faced police interrogations. Palestinians make up about 20% of Israel's population. Many feel forced to self-censor out of fear of being jailed and further marginalized in society. Others still find ways to dissent, but carefully. Israel's National Security Ministry counters that, “Freedom of speech is not the freedom to incite.” Israel says rabbi who went missing in the UAE was killed TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel says the body of of an Israeli-Moldovan rabbi who went missing in the United Arab Emirates has been found, citing Emirati authorities. The statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Sunday said Zvi Kogan was murdered, calling it a “heinous antisemitic terror incident.” It said: “The state of Israel will act with all means to seek justice with the criminals responsible for his death." Kogan went missing on Thursday, and there were suspicions he had been kidnapped. His disappearance comes as Iran has been threatening to retaliate against Israel after the two countries traded fire in October. Israeli strikes in central Beirut kill at least 20 as diplomats push for a cease-fire BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) — Lebanese officials say Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 20 people and injured dozens in central Beirut, as the once-rare attacks on the heart of Lebanon’s capital continue without warning. Diplomats are scrambling to broker a cease-fire but say obstacles still remain. The current proposal calls for a two-month cease-fire during which Israeli forces would withdraw from Lebanon and Hezbollah would end its armed presence along the southern border south of the Litani River. Lebanon’s Health Ministry says Israeli attacks have killed more than 3,500 people in Lebanon in the months of fighting that have turned into all-out war. After Trump's Project 2025 denials, he is tapping its authors and influencers for key roles WASHINGTON (AP) — During the campaign, President-elect Donald Trump had hailed what would become Project 2025 as a conservative roadmap for “exactly what our movement will do." Trump pulled an about-face when Project 2025 became a political liability. He denied knowing anything about the “ridiculous and abysmal” plans, even though some were written by his former aides and many allies. Now, after winning the 2024 election, Trump is stocking his second administration with key players in the effort he temporarily shunned. Trump has tapped Russell Vought for an encore as director of the Office of Management and Budget; Tom Homan, his former immigration chief, as “border czar;” and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as deputy chief of policy. Trump's Republican Party is increasingly winning union voters. It's a shift seen in his labor pick WASHINGTON (AP) — Working-class voters helped Republicans make steady election gains this year and expanded a coalition that increasingly includes rank-and-file union members. It's a political shift spotlighting one of President-elect Donald Trump’s latest Cabinet picks: a GOP congresswoman, who has drawn labor support, to be his labor secretary. Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer narrowly lost her bid for a second term this month, despite strong backing from union members. They're a key part of the Democratic base but are gravitating in the Trump era toward a Republican Party traditionally allied with business interests. Will a winter storm hit the US over Thanksgiving week? Here's what forecasts show so far WINDSOR, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. is reeling from snow and rain while preparing for another bout of bad weather ahead of Thanksgiving that could disrupt holiday travel. California is bracing for more snow and rain this weekend while still grappling with some flooding and small landslides from a previous storm. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for California's Sierra Nevada through Tuesday, with heavy snow expected at high elevations. Parts of the Northeast and Appalachia also started the weekend with heavy precipitation. Meanwhile, thousands remained without power in the Seattle area on Saturday afternoon after a “bomb cyclone” storm system roared ashore the West Coast earlier in the week, killing two people. Pakistan partially stops mobile and internet services ahead of pro-Imran Khan protest ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan says it is suspending mobile and internet services “in areas with security concerns” as supporters of imprisoned former premier Imran Khan gear up for a protest in the capital. The government and Interior Ministry made the announcement on X, which is banned in Pakistan. Sunday's protest is to demand Khan's release. He has been in prison for more than a year but remains popular. His supporters rely heavily on social media and messaging apps to coordinate with each other. Pakistan has already sealed off Islamabad and shut down major roads and highways connecting the city with Khan's power bases. Here's what to know about the new funding deal that countries agreed to at UN climate talks BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — In the wee hours Sunday at the United Nations climate talks, countries from around the world reached an agreement on how rich countries can cough up the funds to support poor countries in the face of climate change. But it’s a far-from-perfect arrangement, with many parties still unsatisfied but hopeful that the deal will be a step in the right direction. Japan holds Sado mines memorial despite South Korean boycott amid lingering historical tensions SADO, Japan (AP) — Japan held a memorial ceremony on Sunday near the Sado Island Gold Mines despite a last-minute boycott of the event by South Korea that highlighted tensions between the neighbors over the issue of Korean forced laborers at the site before and during World War II. South Korea’s absence at Sunday’s memorial, to which Seoul government officials and Korean victims’ families were invited, is a major setback in the rapidly improving ties between the two countries, which since last year have set aside their historical disputes to prioritize U.S.-led security cooperation. Chuck Woolery, smooth-talking game show host of 'Love Connection' and 'Scrabble,' dies at 83 NEW YORK (AP) — Chuck Woolery, the affable, smooth-talking game show host of “Wheel of Fortune,” “Love Connection” and “Scrabble” who later became a right-wing podcaster, skewering liberals and accusing the government of lying about COVID-19, has died. He was 83. Mark Young, Woolery’s podcast co-host and friend, said in an email early Sunday that Woolery died at his home in Texas with his wife, Kristen, present. Woolery, with his matinee idol looks, coiffed hair and ease with witty banter, was inducted into the American TV Game Show Hall of Fame in 2007 and earned a daytime Emmy nomination in 1978. He teamed up with Young for the podcast “Blunt Force Truth” and became a full supporter Donald Trump. As Oswego keeps booming, village officials are looking at the results of a new housing study that offers recommendations to meet the needs of Oswego’s growing population. “It is definitely an unusual time in Oswego because we are growing so fast,” Oswego Village President Ryan Kauffman said. Usually when supply increases demand falls back in line. However, that is not happening in the village, he said. “We seem to be in this almost semi-permanent disequilibrium where we cannot build fast enough. Supply is expanding very fast and yet demand is ramping up right along with it,” Kauffman said. The demand for housing speaks volumes about Oswego, he said. “Everybody wants to live in Oswego,” he said, adding becoming an Oswegoan has become a coveted title residents point to with pride. “It’s a great attribute for our community to have.” Oswego has been in a growth mode for years. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the village’s population was 30,355 in 2010. It grew to a population of 34,602 in 2020, according to the bureau’s figures, and increased by more than 2,400 residents to an estimated 37,074 in 2023. Kauffman said the new housing study “helps to inform and guide our decisions with what we do with housing going forward.” The study was conducted by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and Evanston-based BRicK Partners and included data and feedback from various focus groups. The Illinois Housing Development Authority provided the funding for the project at no cost to the village, Oswego officials said. Overall, the goal in Oswego is to create a “balanced and healthy housing stock,” consultants said. Ben Schnelle, manager of housing initiatives for the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, presented a summary of the analysis to Village Board members recently, as well as recommendations offered by the study, called “Homes for a Changing Region.” The first housing need identified in the study focused on senior citizens in Oswego, Schnelle said. “Between 2012 and 2022, the number of seniors in Oswego more than doubled,” the consultant said. While this is a trend happening in other communities, the growth in the number of seniors is happening at a “faster pace” in Oswego than in Kendall County and the Chicago region, Schnelle said. Feedback from focus groups was an essential component of the study, he said. “There are many in the community who are or will be looking for downsizing options,” Schnelle said. In the community survey, one in four respondents said they do not believe their current home would meet their housing needs in the future, citing the need to possibly downsize or reduce homeownership costs, he said. “For some, it is a matter of preference and for others it is driven by financial aspects or considerations,” Schnelle said. Housing needs change as people go through life, the consultant said. Based on the feedback, one in three homeowners in Oswego are spending more than 30% of their monthly income on housing, Schnelle said. Another need identified in the study focused on the homeownership market, specifically opportunities for first-time homebuyers in Oswego. “It’s no surprise to anyone in the room that the housing market has been red hot over the past few years,” Schnelle said. In 2012, the median home sale price in Oswego was about $170,000, he said. “In 2022, the median home sale price in Oswego was about $345,000, more than three times the typical household income in Oswego and more than four times the typical income throughout the Chicago region,” he said. Other areas of the study focused on the rental market and need to diversify the housing stock in Oswego. The rental vacancy rate in Oswego, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, has decreased dramatically since 2012 and has been next to zero since about 2015, according to the study. “In a healthy or typical rental market, the vacancy rate is about 5% to 8%. When it is much lower than that, it becomes extremely competitive for renters and it can contribute to price increases,” Schnell said. “We do acknowledge in the report this is not something that exists only in Oswego but in Kendall County.” Having a wider choice of housing options is seen as being important in Oswego, according to the study. “When it comes to diversifying the housing market, we noted it is not only responding to demand. It is also an opportunity to help people who work in Oswego find more options at their price point,” Schnelle said. Linda Girardi is a freelance reporter for The Beacon-News.

NoneNebraska offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has no shortage of memories of the Iowa football program. An Iowa native born in Davenport, Holgorsen’s days as a Hawkeye fan are long in the past — but he remembers what it’s like to coach against them. An experience that Holgorsen first underwent as a young Texas Tech assistant in 2001 will be reprised again this weekend. “Twenty-some years later, it’s the same scheme, the same coach, the same everything; this is crazy,” Holgorsen said of Iowa. “It’s going to take another good effort and more improvement to be able to go to Iowa and play in that atmosphere against a good football team.” Nebraska’s recent surge on offense will have the Huskers feeling confident about their upcoming matchup. While Nebraska may not have equaled its recent 44-point outburst against Wisconsin during a loss to USC two weeks prior, foundational improvements were there from the start in Holgorsen’s eyes. Despite scoring 13 points on offense against the Trojans, the Husker offense “just felt better” in that game, Holgorsen said, leading to a “very motivated team” during the week’s practice efforts. And when NU hit the field on Saturday, improvements were there. After struggling to finish drives against USC, Nebraska scored five touchdowns in its seven red zone attempts against Wisconsin. Nebraska threw the ball well, protected its quarterback and found a “difference-maker” in running back Emmett Johnson. “We ran the ball better; that’s the second week in a row I thought the O-line has played well,” Holgorsen said. “Dylan (Raiola) hasn’t been hit a whole lot, he feels good, he’s getting better and processing things well. We’re throwing it and catching it better and our receivers are in the right spots.” It’s been no easy task to drive those improvements in a short amount of time. Holgorsen has only been in Lincoln for a little over three weeks, having first been summoned by head coach Matt Rhule to evaluate the team’s offense before taking over control of it. Midseason coordinator changes may not be rare, but hiring a new face from outside the program is, and Holgorsen admits it made for a “rough” first week on the job. After all, none of the Husker coaches Holgorsen was joining and players he was beginning to coach knew exactly how the situation would play out. Instead, they had to go through it together. “I started getting into the offensive room and those coaches were looking at me crazy like, ‘What are you doing here?’ It’s just true, so we had to sit down and talk and start feeling things out and start working together,” Holgorsen said. “Give those assistant coaches a lot of credit because they didn’t bat an eye. I thought we were smart with how we handled it — I could’ve came in here and changed specific things and that wouldn’t have been the right thing to do for the coaches and the players. I was the one that had to learn.” A desire to challenge himself was one reason Holgorsen said he took the Nebraska job, something which showed up in the new offensive language he needed to familiarize himself with. Having come up as a young coach in the Air Raid offense, Holgorsen exclusively learned, mastered and taught those principles in the years since. It had been 35 years since he last had to learn a new offensive language, Holgorsen estimated. Flash cards with terminology from the Nebraska offense and help from other assistants have helped smooth over that process. Holgorsen may not have been able to stamp his identity all over the offense yet, but he has been able to tweak things, including the very playbook Nebraska operates from. Rhule’s original concepts of a pro-style offense have been added to, transformed and adjusted over the years, with current coaches Marcus Satterfield, Glenn Thomas and Donovan Raiola all bringing different principles and focuses to the playbook. “There’s just all kinds of ideas, so that playbook got pretty big,” Holgorsen said. “I was just like, ‘Look, there’s only one sheet and whatever’s on the sheet is what’s going to get called.’” Trimming down the number of plays Nebraska practices is one such adjustment Holgorsen has made, a process that is collaborative among the Husker coaching staff. Holgorsen also said Nebraska was “probably playing people in too many different spots,” something he’s looked to change so players can focus on their individual roles with more accuracy. “We’ve done a good job of coming together and coming up with a plan of what makes sense to our players,” Holgorsen said. “If it don’t make sense to me, it ain’t gonna make sense to them.” Those changes, and the potential Nebraska showed on offense last week, have excited Husker fans about what the future of a Holgorsen-led offense will look like. However, nothing is guaranteed yet. Holgorsen said that when taking the job he told Rhule he’d get the team ready for USC, Wisconsin and Iowa before figuring out what the future holds. “I don’t want to talk about it, and I don’t want to know what’s next,” Holgorsen. What Holgorsen does know is that he’s enjoying the opportunity in front of him. In part because of the responsibilities he had as a head coach compared to being an offensive coordinator, Holgorsen said he had “more fun on Saturday than I’ve had in a long time” overseeing the Husker offense. As Holgorsen continues furthering improvements within the Nebraska offense, the only guarantee Husker fans have is that he’ll be on the sidelines Friday. It’s currently “the plan” that he will continue as Nebraska’s playcaller during its bowl game, Holgorsen said. “My plan’s to focus on Iowa, try to beat Iowa and see what happens after that.”Generative Artificial Intelligence AI In Data Labeling Solution And Services Global Market 2024: Market Size Forecast

For the first time since October 6th, the headlines will read “Cowboys win.” In one of the craziest games you will ever see, Dallas pulled off a 34-26 upset over the Washington Commanders. With this wild win, the Cowboys have snapped a 5-game losing streak. That was seriously the weirdest NFL game I have seen. From the start to the finish, that was truly insane. We saw a slew of bizarre plays, turnovers, blocked kicks, a seemingly game-icing kickoff return touchdown, before a miracle touchdown and a missed extra point. At times, it felt like both teams were competing to lose this one, but you can’t knock Dallas ‘ effort today. They played incredibly hard, especially on the defensive side. Mike Zimmer’s guys stood out today, and they needed to. There were no excuses this time around . This game was a circus. I have no idea what we just witnessed, but let’s dive into it. How Did That Happen? If you’re trying to piece together exactly how that Cowboys win happened, you have to start with the incredibly sloppy play by Washington. The Commanders’ offense, until the final three minutes, was brutal today; they turned it over, missed opportunities, and overall looked like a lackluster unit. For a team that has been nothing but fireworks on that side of the ball, this was a dud for 98% of the game. Washington turned it over twice, including a Jayden Daniels’ bizarre interception by Defensive End, Chauncey Golston. Kicker Austin Seibert, who was returning from injury, missed two extra points and a 51-yard field goal early in the first quarter. One of those extra points, of course, came after an absolute miracle touchdown from Daniels to Terry McLaurin. On one play, in 12 seconds, the Commanders’ offense scored an 86-yard touchdown. The Dallas defense’s mistakes on this play will be overlooked by the mayhem of the moment, but boy, did they screw that up. JAYDEN DANIELS TO TERRY MCLAURIN NO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! 86 YARDS! pic.twitter.com/T3ITuxRk0c It wasn’t just in the field goal-kicking game, however. The Commanders made the bizarre decision to kick off to KaVontae Turpin late in the game, when they could instead have just kicked it out of the back end zone. This resulted in Turpin pulling off one of the best returns I’ve ever seen, and for just a moment, it seemed like that was going to be the game-winner. It’s important that we not just shine a light on Washington’s flubs, though; this victory was also the result of some impressive play from Dallas. Despite their mistakes at the end, the Cowboys defense stood tall, and the offense, occasionally, came up with some nice plays. This is a major morale boost for Dallas, as this game was not even expected to be close, but what does it mean in the big picture? The Bottom Line Heading into this game, it looked entirely possible for the Cowboys to lose out this season, and finish the year 3-14. Now, they have secured a win on the road as a huge underdog, and will now face the lowly Giants at home on Thanksgiving. Some will argue, including myself, that Dallas was better off losing this game as they are still far from the playoff picture. Cooper Rush, despite an improvement in performance today, is still clearly not built for a playoff push. At 4-7, this season is still likely all but over for Dallas. Cooper Rush HAS to start pushing the ball down the field. Teams are daring him to and he isn't making them pay. That said, could this win propel them, especially on the defensive side, to continue making good teams sweat? Most definitely. If they start playing with the chip on their shoulder that we saw today, they could become much more competitive. So, Cowboys fans , if you were rooting for a win today, enjoy it, it was crazy. If you were hoping for a continuation of the top-5 draft pick prophecy, don’t sweat it too much. The overall outlook for Dallas is still bleak, but man, this was a sight to see in Washington D.C. in Week 12. This article first appeared on Inside The Star and was syndicated with permission.Sunday the Tampa Bay Buccaneers return to action, heading North to face the New York Giants for an early afternoon kickoff. This will be the first of the final seven games of the season. In the Bucs' current position, each one of those games will be crucial in deciding their postseason fate. Fortunately, they will have one of the league's easiest remaining schedules, beginning with a Giants' group seemingly committed to tanking the rest of the season. Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports Regardless, Tampa Bay should not expect a pushover and frankly need a strong performance in conjunction with a win to keep their hopes alive. For star offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs, that partially rests in the Bucs' mentality after the extended break. "Coming off the bye you feel a little bit better, you get away... reset your mind. At the same time, you got to stay positive, you can't shell up," Wirfs said. "This is a turning point, it's going to go one way or the other... with the right mindset, we can make it go the way we want it to go." The Bucs sit behind the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South standings who tout a 6-5 record. Their division rival possess two wins over them already, making their climb to reclaim supremacy in the South all the more difficult. The Bucs' depth and morale took a bruising over their last four games, ending on the wrong side of gut wrenching defeats while losing leaders both temporarily and for the season. Wirfs came out of that gauntlet stretch with his own physical concerns with a knee flare up, but looks poised to take his usual spot on the offensive line this weekend. Nonetheless, this game will revolve less around those aspects and test the Bucs mentally. They have the pieces and capacity to handle an admittedly inferior team but will execute themselves to return to the win column. Related: Can Mayfield Get 'Explosive' with Anticipated Evans Return?
