The surging Orlando Magic seek their eighth win in the last nine games on Saturday when they host the visiting Detroit Pistons. Orlando is returning home from a three-game Western swing in which it went 2-1, rebounding from a 104-93 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday with a 119-118 defeat of the Lakers on Thursday. The Magic weathered a combined 70 points from Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, thanks to Franz Wagner's 37 points and 11 assists. Orlando also got 23 points from Jalen Suggs and 19 off the bench courtesy of Moritz Wagner. Franz Wagner notched 15 of his team-high in the fourth quarter, the final three of which came on a step-back jumper from beyond the arc with 3.3 seconds remaining. The game-winner put an emphatic cap on his fourth 30-plus-point performance in the last six outings. He is averaging a career-best 23.2 points per game through the initial stretch of this season and shooting 35 percent on a career-high 6.1 3-point attempts per game. The outside shooting consistency is a significant improvement from 2023-24 when Franz Wagner shot just 28.1 percent from beyond the arc. "A lot of this stuff is mental for us players," Franz Wagner said. "So for me to get over that hump a little bit over the summer and carry that over into the season means a lot." After the two games in Los Angeles and a 109-99 win in Phoenix on Monday, Orlando returns home where it is undefeated this season. The Magic held opponents to 94 points or fewer in all five games of a homestand from Nov. 8-15, buoying the NBA's lowest scoring yield of 103.2 points per game. Detroit comes in on a run scoring 120 points or more in four of its last six games, though three of those went to overtime. The most recent of the Pistons' trio of extra-frame contests came on Thursday in a 123-121 loss at the Charlotte Hornets. Cade Cunningham scored 27 points and dished 10 assists for his ninth double-double of the season and fifth in a row. Over the ongoing stretch, Cunningham also produced a 21-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple-double in a 124-104 win over Washington on Sunday. Cunningham is averaging 23.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game heading into Saturday's matchup, and his 8.9 assists per game are fourth-most in the NBA. Against Charlotte, however, the Pistons could not withstand a barrage of 38 points from Brandon Miller and 35 from LaMelo Ball -- or a 20-point deficit in the third quarter. "We can't have those type of starts, especially on the road, giving teams confidence," Tobias Harris said of Detroit digging a deep hole early. "Games like this are important, though. There's so many teachable moments of how every possession matters and counts coming down into the fourth quarter and overtime." In terms of team growth, the Pistons have made huge strides from a season ago when they endured the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history at 28 games. With seven wins through the initial stretch of 2024-25, this season's Pistons are halfway to matching the team's win total of a season ago. Harris, an offseason acquisition, has contributed to the turnaround with 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. TORONTO (AP) — The Utah Hockey Club said players were forced to walk to their game against the Maple Leafs after their bus got stuck in Toronto traffic Sunday night. The team posted a video on social media of team members walking to Scotiabank Arena, with player Maveric Lamoureux saying the bus was “not moving at all.” Several city streets had been closed during the day for the annual Santa Claus parade. The Maple Leafs earned their fourth consecutive win by defeating Utah 3-2. The viral incident prompted Ontario Premier Doug Ford to call the congestion “embarrassing” and “unacceptable,” highlighting his government’s plan to address the city’s gridlock through bike lane legislation. It wasn’t the first time a Toronto visitor had to ditch their vehicle to make it to an event on time. In June, former One Direction band member Niall Horan had to walk through traffic to get to his concert at Scotiabank Arena. AP NHL: https://apnews.com/hub/nhlPublished 6:22 pm Wednesday, December 25, 2024 By Joshua Windus Ossoff Press U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s bipartisan bill to crack down on fentanyl trafficking across the Southern Border has been signed into law. Sen. Ossoff’s bipartisan law will strengthen the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s capacity to detect fentanyl and xylazine at ports of entry and better prevent it from crossing the border. Sen. Ossoff introduced the bill in June alongside Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), James Lankford (R-OK), and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) to require the DHS Science and Technology Directorate to research and develop technologies that better detect drug trafficking across the southern border. The bipartisan bill was signed into law yesterday by the President. “Illegal fentanyl trafficking is devastating Georgia families and putting our kids at risk ,” said Sen. Ossoff. “I brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass my bill into law that will strengthen detection and prevention of fentanyl trafficking.” “Fentanyl is a silent killer that lurks in the shadows of our communities, and we must assist law enforcement in rooting it out to stop the loss of more innocent lives,” said Sen. Cornyn . “This law will ensure our brave men and women in uniform have every available tool to safely identify these deadly drugs and help put a stop to this devastating epidemic.” Between FY 2020 and FY 2023, the amount of fentanyl seized at the southern border increased by 480% . In 2023, CBP seized 400,000 pounds of non-marijuana drugs, including 1,142,859 doses of fentanyl that were seized by the Atlanta Field Office alone. Sen. Ossoff continues working to secure the Southern Border and protect Georgia families from drug trafficking. Last month, Sens. Ossoff and Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the bipartisan Border Smuggling Crackdown Act to strengthen Federal prosecution of human smugglers and protect innocent victims. In May, Sen. Ossoff inspected the Paso del Norte port of entry, the area of operations for Border Patrol’s El Paso station, and detention facilities in Texas and New Mexico. He also met with U.S. law enforcement and national security officials and Mexican law enforcement officials in Juarez, Mexico, and warned of the threat of terrorism at the southern border . In April, Sen. Ossoff helped pass the bipartisan Border Enforcement, Security, and Trade (BEST) Facilitation Act through the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to strengthen border security by providing additional CBP officers to scan cargo for illegal drugs and guns or human smuggling. In March, the Sen. Ossoff-backed bipartisan Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act became law , which will sanction drug cartels and combat money laundering by the criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking. Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff introduced the Deploy Fentanyl Scanners Act of 2024 to help deploy scanners at ports of entry to better identify contraband, including fentanyl, being smuggled across the border through personal vehicles. In 2022, Sen. Ossoff’s bipartisan Rural Opioid Abuse Prevention Act was signed into law to help rural communities experiencing high rates of opioid overdoses respond to the crisis.

All Blacks legend TJ Perenara has come clean on his decision to use his final haka for New Zealand to make a big statement on the nation’s controversial Treaty Principles Bill. The 89-cap player, who represented New Zealand for the final time in the match after signing a three-year deal with Japanese rugby team Black Rams Tokyo, led the haka for the 64th time before the All Blacks’ 29-11 win over Italy on the weekend. Watch selected NRL, AFL, SSN games plus every F1 qualifying session and race live in 4K on Kayo. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited time offer. Perenara launched into an impassioned haka, stating: “toitū te mana o te whenua, toitū te mana motuhake, toitū te tiriti o Waitangi.” That translates to “forever the strength of the land, forever the strength of independence, forever the Treaty of Waitangi.” Saturday’s haka has made waves. Photo by Francesco Scaccianoce/Getty Images The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840 and brought peace between the Maori and European settlers and established New Zealand as a colony. February 6, the anniversary of the signing, is known as Waitangi Day and is New Zealand’s national day. But the right-libertarian ACT Party, who are part of a coalition with the National Party and New Zealand First to form government, have tabled the Treaty Principles Bill, which aims to redefine the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. The bill aims to offer New Zealanders a binding referendum seeking to more narrowly define the treaty’s principles in legal documents, with ACT leader David Seymour telling parliament it would address a situation where Maori are “afforded different rights than other New Zealanders”. Critics say the real aim is to unravel education and other programs for Maori citizens. Mr Seymour said the bill was a good thing and would be a “democratisation of the Treaty”. Maori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi previously accused the government of “waging war on our existence as Maori and on the fabric of this nation” and compared ACT Party to the KKK. The bill has been controversial to say the least with an estimated 42,000 demonstrators marching on the nation’s capital of Wellington to protest the bill. Around 40,000 protesters marched on Wellington. Photo by Joe Allison/Getty Images The bill is expected to fail, with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon allowing the bill to come to parliament as part of the parties’ coalition deal, but his party is believed to be unlikely to vote for its passage. Mr Luxon recently called the bill “divisive” and there was “no need for it”, while the opposition Labour Party called it “a waste of money” with “no support from any other party in parliament”. Speaking after the match against Italy, Perenara said the first line he had spoken had meant “this haka is for everyone in Aotearoa”, revealing his intent was to unite the country back home. “We’ve been away from home and seen the unity and the unification of our people back home, all people of Aotearoa and paying homage to us as people, and showing unification together as one,” Perenara said. “And like we, countries go through tough times. People go through tough times, families go through tough times. “And for us to pay homage to the unification of all of us is something that wanted to do and that we wanted to do, which was important.” However, questions were also asked after the Waitangi chant was kept off the All Blacks social media accounts. See in the video player above. The Aoteroa Liberation League tweeted: “All Blacks are erasing the beginning of this haka where TJ says “toitū te mana o te whenua, toitū te mana motuhake, toitū Te Tiriti o Waitangi” – a great example of how corporations are happy to commercialise te ao Māori while erasing Māori political aspirations.” Perenara said he didn’t intend the haka to be political or divisive. “Stand and pay respect to our whenua (country), which is our whenua, mana motuhake, which is our sovereignty, everyone’s sovereignty,” Perenara explained. “Te Tiriti o Waitangi, stand tall, stand proud and stand on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. So uniting us all as people. “I know some people might see or try and make it political or divisive, but for us, unity and being together is important, especially as Maori.” All Blacks skipper Scott Barrett said the team were aware and supportive of Perenara’s plan. “As the leader, they get the opportunity to say something,” Barrett explained. “He said he was going to lead, and say a wee mihi. It was a message of unity, and that’s what he said.” It’s the last time Perenara will lead the haka for the All Blacks. Photo by Dave Rowland/Getty Images All Blacks coach Scott Robertson said Perenara had discussed his haka plan before the match. “TJ when he got the right to call (the haka), there’s a part of it at the start he gets in his own words to call it,” Robertson told reporters. “And he’s decided to say that and he has done it with the aspect of unity. It’s his right to say that.” “He said it’s sign of unity. Everyone is across it. He gets his chance to call that and the rest of the team gets to do the haka.” But the move has been criticised as well with Mr Seymour questioning why Perenara was against the bill. “I congratulate TJ on his long All Blacks career and wish him well in Japan,” Mr Seymour said. “I hope he reads the bill at treaty.nz. It says that we all have nga tikanga katoa rite tahi – the same rights and duties. And all New Zealanders have tino rangatiratanga, the right to self-determine, not only Māori. “The challenge for people who oppose this bill is to explain why they are so opposed to those basic principles of equal rights.” More Coverage Aussie sevens star crowned world’s best Martin Gabor ‘Numb arm’: Wallabies’ nervous wait on $5m man Originally published as ‘Message of unity’: New Zealand divided over All Blacks’ haka detail Join the conversation Add your comment to this story To join the conversation, please log in. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — A rare win as a double-digit underdog came just in time to let the Dallas Cowboys believe their playoff hopes aren't completely gone in 2024. Cooper Rush probably will need three more victories in a row filling in for the injured Dak Prescott for any postseason talk to be realistic. The thing is, the Cowboys (4-7) could be favored in two of those games, and already are by four points as an annual Thanksgiving Day host against the New York Giants (2-9) on Thursday, according to BetMGM. Not to mention the losing record at the moment for each of the next four opponents for the defending NFC East champions, playoff qualifiers each of the past three seasons. The Cowboys have a chance to make something of the improbable and chaotic 34-26 win at Washington that ended a five-game losing streak. “Behind the eight ball,” Micah Parsons said, the star pass rusher acknowledging the reality that Dallas hadn't done much yet. “Let’s see how we can handle adversity and see if we can make a playoff run. But we got a long way to go.” It was a start, though, powered in part by the best 55 minutes from the Dallas defense since the opener, when the Cowboys dismantled Cleveland and looked the part of a Super Bowl contender. The last five minutes for the Dallas defense against the Commanders looked a lot like most of the nine games after that 33-17 victory over the Browns. Which is to say not very good. Jayden Daniels easily drove Washington 69 yards to a touchdown before throwing an 86-yard scoring pass in the final seconds to Terry McLaurin, who weaved through five defenders when a tackle might have ended the game. The Cowboys kept a 27-26 lead thanks to Austin Seibert's second missed extra point, and withstood another blunder when Juanyeh Thomas returned an onside kick recovery for a TD rather than slide and leave one kneel-down from Rush to end the game. Dallas will have to remember it did hold a dynamic rookie quarterback's offense to 251 yards before the madness of the ending in the Cowboys' biggest upset victory since 2010 at the New York Giants. That one was too late to save the season. This one might not be. “We needed it,” embattled coach Mike McCarthy said. “It’s been frustrating, no doubt. We’ve acknowledged that. We’ve got another one right around the corner here, so we have to get some wins and get some momentum.” Rush ended a personal three-game losing streak with his best showing since the previous time he won as the replacement for Prescott, who is out for the season after surgery for a torn hamstring. The 117.6 passer rating was Rush's best as a starter, and the NFL's second-worst rushing attack played a solid complementary role with Rico Dowdle gaining 86 yards on 19 carries. KaVontae Turpin's electrifying 99-yard kickoff return did more than lift the Cowboys when it appeared an 11-point lead might get away in the final five minutes. It eased the worst day of special teams for Dallas since John Fassel took over that phase four years ago. Suddenly struggling kicker Brandon Aubrey had one field-goal attempt blocked and missed another. Bryan Anger had a punt blocked. For the second time in five games, Aubrey's attempt to bounce a kickoff in front of the return man backfired. The ball bounced outside the landing zone, putting the Commanders at the 40-yard line to start the second half and setting up the drive to the game's first touchdown. CB Josh Butler, whose NFL debut earlier this season came five years after the end of his college career, had 12 tackles, a sack and three pass breakups. The pass breakups were the most by an undrafted Dallas player since 1994. Rookie LT Tyler Guyton, who has had an up-and-down season with injuries and performance issues, was benched immediately after getting called for a false start in the fourth quarter. His replacement, Asim Richards, could be sidelined with a high ankle sprain that executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones revealed on his radio show Monday. Veteran Chuma Edoga, who was the projected starter at Guyton's position before a preseason toe injury, was active but didn't play against the Commanders. He's awaiting his season debut. The status of perennial All-Pro RG Zack Martin (ankle/shoulder) and LG Tyler Smith (ankle/knee) will be a question on the short week after both sat against Washington. Stephen Jones indicated Smith could be available and said the same of WR Brandin Cooks, who hasn't played since Week 4 because of a knee issue. TE Jake Ferguson may miss at least a second week with a concussion. The short week might make it tough for CB Trevon Diggs (groin/knee) to return. 75% — Rush's completion rate, his best with at least 10 passes. He was 24 of 32 for 247 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His other game with multiple TDs and no picks was a 25-10 victory over Washington two years ago, when he went 4-1 with Prescott sidelined by a broken thumb. There's some extra rest after the short week, with Cincinnati making a “Monday Night Football” visit on Dec. 9. The next road game is at Carolina on Dec. 15. “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life, dream of it, think of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, the body, muscles, nerves, and every part of your body be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone” That Ideation Process is — Startup India movement. As of now, Bharat has surpassed China in population, and we have become the world’s largest populated country with a population of more than 140 crores. In terms of economy or GDP, we are in 5th position. After the initiative is taken by our honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, we are eying Bharat as Viksit Bharat by 2047. If we analyse the countries that use economic or GDP terms, we will see that deeply engraved Startup orstartupreneurial mindset development ecosystems in their universities. After joining as an assistant professor at Government Engineering College, Aurangabad, Bihar or even after taking charge of the Startup cell, I can assure you that the role of technical colleges will be extremely important for achieving the Sankalp of Viksit Bharat. As India has approx. More than 9000 technical colleges. Each college at a time consists of 1000 students across different technical specialisations, and in the same place, each college has 70 to 80 teaching faculty members and lab assistants. These faculty members and lab assistants are technical experts on some level in their specialisation. For example, in my Government Engineering College, Aurangabad College, we have Artificial intelligence & Machine learning, Data science, Electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, civil engineering, & Mechanical engineering. With this in one place, we get these huge, versatile technical experts as faculty members. Now Sankalp for Viksit Bharat by 2047 point of view, we need to utilise these expertise to shape our youth’s jobseeker mindset toward entrepreneurial or job creation. Bharat’s most fertile young brains are in college at this time, so the seed of Viksit Bharat must be sown at the colleges with the help of academics. So, the role of academia must be defined or reconstructed by AICTE from the Sankalp of Viksit Bharat point of view. In India, 2.2 per cent of the adult population are income taxpayers. Similar comparative percentages for certain other developed countries are – France 78.3 per cent, USA 50.1 per cent, Germany 61.3 per cent, UK 59.7 per cent. And we are eying to compete with these developed countries by 2047 through the Sankalp of Viksit Bharat. Bharat is one of the world’s biggest markets with huge potential for startups and entrepreneurship, but still, the youth of our Nation are wasting half of their lives up to the age of 30 to 35 for government jobs. They are not able to see the entrepreneurial opportunity of Bharat. This huge population is ready to be a liability rather than an asset for the Nation. Government jobs are not bad, but the number of government jobs is very small compared to the number of people seeking them. To convert this liability population into an asset, we must drive and promote the startup ecosystem at the college and university levels. When I say Startup, it will automatically include Innovation and Intellectual properties. Now, all the countries leading the world economy are leaders in Innovation and Intellectual property. So we need a more focused ecosystem in universities and colleges toward Startup, Innovation, & Intellectual property. The path of prosperity or Viksit Bharat should be on Startup, Innovation, & Intellectual property, i.e. Our central government & AICTE already established the Institute Innovation Council, Startup & innovation Cell, and Technical Club in each college, and they conduct regular Hackathons. Even in a State like Bihar, all engineering colleges of the Department of Science, technology, and Technical Education have dedicated startup Cells, established with the collaborative support of the Department of Industry (Startup Bihar) Government of Bihar. This dedicated startup cell provides mentorship, guidance & all technical support to the budding startup founders of the respective colleges and any common people of the respective district. Apart from mentorship, these startup cells have to conduct some Startup outreach awareness sessions outside the nodal college and startup-related sessions & competitions in the nodal college to file Some Patent copyright to register students from colleges & districts in a short-term online course that is Startup India learning program, it’s an online certification course from where budding startup founders get insights of basic Startup related knowledge and compliances. Then, students register on the Startup Bihar portal with their Startup ideas, the identified problem, and the details of the implementation solution. Then, after Startup Bihar goes through the screening round, ideas having the potential to solve the existing problem are called for a basis test, in which Startup Bihar measures the basic knowledge about the Startup. After clearing the test, they called for the pitching round, where they had to pitch their startup ideas to experts. After a recommendation from the experts, they got an initial seed fund of Rs. 10 lacs. Based on performance on various parameters, the Department of Industry releases a monthly ranking of the startup Cells. This model of creating a startup ecosystem in Bihar has deeply impacted the youth’s mindset toward the Startup in Bihar. Bihar is considered an aspiring leader in the state startup ranking of the Nation. Apart from the seed fund of Rs 10 lacs, the Bihar government provides a 15 Lacs scale-up fund, Matching grants up to 50 lacs. And a 100 per cent refund of all intellectual property processing fees and some extra benefits to the women-led startups. Under internship schemes, the government provides financial support to pay the interns. Startup Bihar has 815 registered startups out of these 125 women-led startups, 46 startup cells, 21 incubation centres, 3 subsidies co-working spaces like B-Hub, 1 sponsored PGDM course on entrepreneurship, and 1 zero lab for ideation stage startups across the state. I appreciate the Bihar government’s startup policy. These are the unexceptional and huge support to the budding entrepreneurs and startup founders. It will play the most crucial role in fulfilling the sankalp of Viksit Bharat by 2047. In conclusion, I would like to opine that the Startup India program has many benefits, making it an opportune time for aspiring entrepreneurs. The simplified processes, financial incentives, and support structures create an environment where innovative ideas can flourish, businesses can expand, and dreams can materialise. The main takeaways from my experience –highlight the strong growth trajectory, the crucial role played by academia and government initiatives, the ongoing difficulties in obtaining funding and hiring talent, and the revolutionary effect that technology breakthroughs have had on entrepreneurship. These factors shape the opportunities and challenges faced by Indian startups. As it spurs innovation, creates jobs, and tackles urgent social issues, entrepreneurship Skills across the Nation move towardsEver since dropped his surprise album on Friday, it’s all any rap fan can talk about online. He gave them more food for thought with the video for “ ,” the album standout which he previously teased in the “Not Like Us” video five months ago. Now, fans can’t stop dissecting the pop culture references sprinkled throughout the video. While we may not be able to fully explain some of them because you just had to be there — who really knows why all our aunties had those dang panther statues in the living room — here is a breakdown of the references to Black film, music, and California in the “Squabble Up” video. The Freeway Exit Sign The video opens with a reproduction of an exit sign from the 105 Freeway that cuts through South Los Angeles. Specifically, the three eastbound exits listed — Wilmington, Central, and Long Beach Blvd. — are the ones pertaining specifically to Compton. Scrapers And African-American Flags The next big cultural reference is to scraper bikes, a fixture of Oakland, California, which grew out of lowrider car culture. In 2006, Tyrone “Baybe Champ” Stevenson Jr., aka Scraper Bike King, began modifying bicycles with scrap, cardboard, tinfoil, and paint in an effort to create a new hobby to keep youth out of trouble. Dancers throughout this scene “go dumb,” an expression of the hyphy culture that grew out of the Bay Area in the early 2000s. The African-American Flag was created by David Hammons in 1990, combining the colors of the Pan-African Flag, black, green, and red, with the flag of the United States to represent African diaspora identity in the US. Historically, enslaved Africans were banned from learning about their home cultures; as a result, the Black American identity has become a way for their descendants to create a culture of their own. Ice-T’s Album Cover That buxom young lady holding the shotgun in a revealing swimsuit is a reference to the back cover of Ice-T’s 1988 album — an album considered pivotal in the rise of both LA’s rap scene and gangsta rap overall. Ice’s then-girlfriend Darlene Ortiz posed on the cover, while the album, like , found Ice taking on rap’s heartthrob LL Cool J — sound familiar? Scramble Board This one’s a super deep cut. The dance variety show — a fixture in certain households in the ’80s and ’90s — included a recurring segment in which two dancers would try to solve a word scramble forming the name of that week’s musical guest or another notable Black figure. The Big Wheel Right around the two-minute mark, you might notice a small child on a Big Wheel tricycle in the background. This is a reference to the film . Spoiler alert for a 30-year movie: It doesn’t end well for Caine — or the kid on the Big Wheel. Isaac Hayes’ Album Cover Near the end of the video, we see a reproduction of the cover of Isaac Hayes’ fifth studio album, which included his interpretations of “Never Can Say Goodbye,” and “(They Long to Be) Close to You,” and went No. 1 on the R&B chart in 1972. Behind him, we see a box of Black Jesus prints, which ought to speak for themselves. The Roots’ “The Next Movement” This one’s admittedly a bit shaky, but as one fan on Twitter , the clip bears a striking resemblance to the one for The Roots’ 1999 single, “The Next Movement.” Like , that album also saw its principles taking steps in bringing music previously only acknowledged as underground to mainstream consciousness, while making subtle references to progressive social movements. Well, the “A Complete Unknown” star showed he has some chops on the sports punditry circuit. And, not only that, he seemed to do plenty of research as he made his picks ahead of an important slate of conference championship games. He particularly stood out for his picks for the SWAC — Jackson State — and the MAC — Ohio. “Jackson State, eight wins in a row, 11 all-conference players — this should be a comfortable, easy win for them,” Chalamet said with plenty of confidence, getting plenty of love with shoulder taps from show regulars Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit. Instead of picking a favorite in the MAC title game between Miami of Ohio and Ohio, Chalamet had his reasons to pick an upset. “The Red Hawks defense looks good, but I’m looking at fourth-year quarterback Parker Navarro. Sixty-five percent completion rate. If he can get going, he’ll tilt this in favor of the Bobcat. I’m going underdog Bobcats here, underdog Bobcats.” That bold pick earned a strong handshake from McAfee. And, when it came down to it, Chalamet thought hard about his pick for the SEC championship, and when it came down to it, he went with the Texas Longhorns over the Georgia Bulldogs, much to the chagrin of the large swath UGA fans in attendance. College football social media was largely impressed with the actor’s sports preparedness. “You are all fools for doubting Timothée Chalamet’s knowledge of ball. He drank the Water of Life,” wrote podcaster Ross Bolen on X . “Timothee Chalamet, I owe you an apology — I wasn’t familiar with your game,” wrote College Sports Only in reference to the widely-shared meme of Shaquille O’Neal . “Timothee Chalamet being a real deal college football fan, being a SMU fan, and knowing about all these teams was so crazy to me. I thought just invited cause famous, but he was a legit great guest picker on College Gameday,” wrote the Ringer’s Chris Vernon . Fox NFL writer and NFL Network personality Peter Schrager didn’t mince words. “Timothee Chalamet came prepared , researched, and referenced the Pony Express. Maybe the best College Gameday guest picker yet. NYC guy. Respect,” he wrote . In a season that’s included plenty of famous folks like actor Keegan-Michael Key, Pirates star Paul Skenes, gymnast Olivia “Livvy” Dunne and swimmer Michael Phelps, Chalamet might have stood out as the best and most prepared.
