ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bulldogs finally dispatched a pesky Massachusetts team for a 59-21 victory at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. And with that out of the way, the No. 10 Bulldogs can get back to pursuing a College Football Playoff berth. Their victory Saturday certainly did little to enhance that pursuit. Georgia (9-2) rolled up 550 yards of offense and scored on all but one offensive possession. But the Bulldogs gave up 351 yards — including 226 rushing — to UMass (2-9), an FBS independent that recently fired its head coach. A win over archrival Georgia Tech would help the Bulldogs’ cause. The Yellow Jackets (7-4) arrive for a 7:30 p.m. ET Friday kickoff (ABC) in the rivalry known as “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate.” Georgia’s defense has some serious shoring to do before then. Utilizing a two-quarterback offense similar to Tech’s, UMass marched up and down the field on the Bulldogs on Saturday. The Minutemen rolled up 227 yards rushing through three quarters. When Georgia surged ahead 45-21 late in the third quarter, it looked like it might have forced the Minutemen into submission. Instead, running back Jalen John broke off a 68-yard run, and UMass was back in business first-and-goal at the Bulldogs’ 7. That’s when Mykel Williams made the defensive play of the game for Georgia. His strip-sack of quarterback A.J. Hairston was recovered by the Minutemen, but only after a loss of 23 yards. The UMass possession would end in a missed 37-yard field-goal attempt, and the Bulldogs were able to retain a modicum of respect on the scoreboard. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, the visitors had no answers for their Carson Beck-led offense. Georgia scored on every offensive possession through the first three quarters — six touchdowns and a field goal, while the senior quarterback threw for four touchdowns and 297 yards on 20-of-31 passing. Freshman running back Nate Frazier added 136 yards and three touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Georgia never punted, but turned the ball over on downs at the 11:18 mark of the fourth quarter. The final margin was skewed in the fourth quarter. With 3:28 remaining in the game, Gabe Harris sacked UMass quarterback A.J. Hairston. That forced a fumble that freshman linebacker Chris Cole scooped up for a 31-yard touchdown that made the score 59-21. The Minutemen ran the ball right down Georgia’s throat in the first half. That had 166 yards rushing by halftime and possessed the ball for two-thirds of the opening half (20:37 to 9:23) while converting 5-of-8 on third and fourth downs. Then UMass scored on a 75-yard touchdown pass on their first offensive series of the second half to get within 31-21. ©2024 The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Visit at ajc.com . Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.ATLANTA (AP) — Even the woeful NFC South, where no team has a winning record, can't hide the Atlanta Falcons' offensive shortcomings. Three straight setbacks, including an ugly 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, has left the Falcons 6-6 and feeling the pressure. Only a tiebreaker advantage over Tampa Bay has kept the Falcons atop the division. Now the Falcons must prepare to visit streaking Minnesota, which has won five straight . Veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett knows the Falcons must solve the flaws which have been exposed in the losing streak. “It’s now or never,” Jarrett said. “You have to flip the mindset fast.” Kirk Cousins threw four interceptions in the loss, matching his career high. Coach Raheem Morris said he didn't consider playing rookie Michael Penix Jr. against the Chargers and won't think about benching Cousins this week. Morris acknowledged the Falcons can't expect to win when turning the ball over four times. It was the latest example of Atlanta's offensive decline. In the three-game losing streak, Cousins has thrown six interceptions with no touchdowns. The Falcons were held under 20 points in each loss. What’s working If not for the rash of interceptions which has contributed to the scoring problems, more attention would be devoted to the surge of big plays on defense. The defense forced two fumbles and set a season high with five sacks, including two by Arnold Ebiketie. The Falcons ranked last in the league with only 10 sacks before finding success with their pass rush against Justin Herbert. Herbert was forced to hold the ball while looking for an open receiver, so some credit for the pass-rush success belongs to Atlanta's secondary. The Falcons gave up only two first downs in the second half and 187 yards for the game. What needs help Cousins, 36, was expected to be the reliable leader on offense after he signed a four-year, $180 million contract. The four interceptions were his most since 2014 with Washington. Cousins now will be in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons as he returns to Minnesota, his NFL home from 2018-23. Cousins has thrown 13 interceptions, one shy of his career high set in 2022. His passer rating of 90.8 is his lowest since his 86.4 mark as a part-time starter in 2014 with Washington. “Certainly when you haven’t played at the standard you want to a few weeks in a row, you know, you do want to change that, turn it around,” Cousins said. Stock up Running back Bijan Robinson had his busiest day of the season, perhaps in an attempt to take heat off Cousins. Robinson's 26 carries set a career high. He ran for 102 yards with a touchdown, his third 100-yard game of the season. He also was heavily involved as a receiver with six catches for 33 yards. With 135 yards from scrimmage, Robinson has eight games this season with more than 100 yards combined as a rusher and receiver, the second-most in the league. Stock down Tight end Kyle Pitts had no catches on only two targets. He has only six catches in the last four games after appearing to establish momentum for a big season with two seven-catch games in a span of three weeks in October. Morris noted the Falcons have “so many people that we've got to get the ball to” but noted he'd like to see Pitts more involved. Injuries Younghoe Koo's hip issues were such a concern that kicker Riley Patterson was signed to the practice squad on Friday and added to the active roster Saturday. Patterson was on the inactive list as Koo was good on two of three field goals, missing from 35 yards. Koo has made 21 of 29 attempts this season. He did not have more than five misses in any of his first five seasons with Atlanta. Key number 70 — WR Drake London had nine receptions for 86 yards, giving him 70 catches for the season. London, a 2022 first-round draft pick, is the first player in team history with at least 65 receptions in each of his first three seasons. While Ray-Ray McCloud III led the team with a career-best 95 yards on four catches against the Chargers and Darnell Mooney has had some big games, London has been the most consistent receiver. Next steps The Falcons face a difficult test Sunday in their visit to Minnesota (10-2), which has five straight wins and is 5-1 at home. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl Charles Odum, The Associated Press

By Shaila Rana and Nelly Mulleneaux Some scammers combine voice deepfakes with AI-generated video clips showing the “loved one” in apparent distress. These manufactured emergency scenarios often involve hospital bills, bail money or ransom demands that must be paid immediately. The scammer may also use AI to impersonate authority figures like doctors, police officers and lawyers to add credibility to the scheme. Since the voice sounds authentic and the emotional manipulation is intense, even cautious people can be caught off guard and make rushed decisions. How to protect yourself Protecting yourself against scams requires a multilayered defense strategy. When shopping, verify retailers through official websites by checking the URL carefully – it should start with the letters “HTTPS” – and closely examining the site design and its content. Since fake websites often provide fake contact information, checking the “Contact Us” section can be a good idea. Before making purchases from unfamiliar sites, cross-reference the business on legitimate review platforms and verify their physical address. It’s essential to keep all software updated, including your operating system, browser, apps and antivirus software. Updates often include security patches that fix vulnerabilities hackers could exploit. For more information on the importance of software updates and how to manage them, check out resources like StaySafeOnline or your device manufacturer’s official website. Regular updates are a crucial step in maintaining a secure online shopping experience. Make sure you only provide necessary information for purchases – remember, no one needs your Social Security number to sell you a sweater. And keeping an eye on your bank statements will help you catch any unauthorized activity early. It may seem like another chore, and it probably is, but this is the reality of our digital world. To protect against family emergency scams, establish family verification codes, or a safe word, or security questions that only real family members would know. If you do get a distressed call from loved ones, remain calm and take time to verify the situation by contacting family members directly through known and trusted phone numbers. Educate your relatives about these scams and encourage them to never send money without first confirming the emergency with other family members or authorities through verified channels. If you discover that your identity has been stolen, time is critical. Your first steps should be to immediately contact your banks and credit card companies, place a fraud alert with the credit bureaus, and file a report with the Federal Trade Commission and your local police. In the following days, you’ll need to change all passwords, review your credit reports, consider a credit freeze , and document everything. While this process can be overwhelming – and extremely cumbersome – taking quick action can significantly limit the damage. Staying informed about AI scam tactics through reputable cybersecurity resources is essential. Reporting suspected scams to relevant authorities not only protects you, but it also helps safeguard others. A key takeaway is that staying vigilant is critical to defending against these threats. Awareness helps communities push back against digital threats. More importantly, it’s key to understand how today’s scams aren’t like yesteryear’s. Recognizing the signs of scams can provide stronger defense during this holiday season. And as you develop your threat identification techniques, don’t forget to share with your family and friends. Who knows? You could save someone from becoming a victim. Shaila Rana is Professor of Information Technology, Purdue University. And he wanted one of them to start showing his all-conference form again. The Great Danes took advantage of an opportunity to check both of those boxes with a 93-50 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at the in the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament in San Juan. Killings played 14 players, only one of whom was out there for more than 20 minutes, and that was redshirt junior Amar’e Marshall, who scored 17 points on 6-for-9 from the field and 3 for 5 from 3-point range in 21 minutes. Marshall missed most of the preseason prep work with a thumb injury on his shooting hand, but Friday’s game showed he’s on the road back to where he was before the injury. “One of the priorities was to get Amar’e going,” Killings said via Zoom. “I don’t think he’s been as impactful as we want him to be and he wants to be. “But he’s probably practiced five times in six weeks. I think his instincts are coming back, his confidence is coming back, and we want to ride that wave through the next two games. If we’re going to win games, we need Amar’e Marshall to play really well.” UAlbany will play two more games in Puerto Rico, against Kansas City on Saturday and American on Sunday. Marshall showed some flashes of his old self in a 70-60 win over Siena in the Albany Cup at Broadview Center last Saturday, but Friday’s performance was more complete. Besides his scoring, he had five assists, three rebounds and two steals. “I was just trying to get into the groove of things, get that feeling of running up and down the court and tightening up my game,” Marshall said. “I feel like last time I hit the court, I was just playing sloppy.” “I think he’s an all-league player, and if he pushes himself, he’s Player of the Year in the league, so if we’re going to set the bar that high, I’ve got to be a little harder on what he’s doing out there,” Killings said. “This is a good step in the right direction.” The Great Danes (4-1) put the game away early, taking a 39-16 lead with over five minutes left in the first half. Marshall scored 10 points during that stretch. Byron Joshua had had 13 points and five assists for UAlbany, Aaron Reddish scored 12 and DeMarr Langford, Jr., scored 11. “Justin [Neely] had two great games. To see him come back and play that good, it shows how much firepower we’ve got,” Marshall said. “Everybody can have their night. It could be a different guy every day. I really enjoy playing for this team and feel like there’s multiple guys that can do it for us.” Wilkin Paulino, a 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Worcester, Massachusetts, has committed to join the Great Danes in 2025-26. "The New England native brings a level of toughness, competitiveness, and hunger that will help him find success early and have a positive impact as a freshman,” Killings said in a release this week. “We are excited about his recent growth as a player and believe his best basketball days are ahead of him.” Paulino plays AAU for The House We Built of the Hoop Group Elite AAU Circuit and currently attends Proctor Academy in Andover, New Hampshire, for which he was named team captain for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons. He is ranked the 11th-best player in New Hampshire according to the New England Recruiting Report. Heading into the season, Paulino is averaging 14.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. “The reason why I chose UAlbany is because of the coaching staff, and how they took really good care of me and my mother when we visited," Paulino said in the release. "I saw how everyone in the coaching staff took time out of their day to start a bond with me, it felt like home. They also have a plan for me and I 100% trust them. I'm super excited to get to work on and off the court.”Allegations of assault on vegetable vendor Madan Nayak in Biraja Haat of Jajpur district led to the arrest of Bhaba Prakash, the brother of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pranab Prakash Das aka Bobby Das . However, the complainant Nayak took a U-turn on Saturday. Initially, Madan claimed that Bhaba aka Lala, had assaulted him, threatened him, and extorted money from him. On the contrary, Madan has retracted these claims, stating today that Lala did not commit any such acts and that his original police report was a slip-up from his side. He had mistakenly lodged the FIR with the local police. Also Read: FIR lodged against BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das’ brother for ‘assaulting’ vegetable vendor Following this reversal, there is speculation of pressure on the vegetable vendor to withdraw the case against Lala. This suspicion arises as Madan, accompanied by Lala’s lawyer, filed for case withdrawal. “I reached the Haat late and do not know what had happened. My vegetables were not thrown by anyone. I am an uneducated person and had lodged an FIR against Babu (Bhaba Prakash) by mistake. I withdrew the FIR today,” Madan said to mediapersons. “My son and my wife scolded me and advised me not to indulge in such unfair activities. I went to Bobby Babu earlier in the morning and begged apology,” the complainant stated. Earlier yesterday, Madan had alleged that Bhaba Prakash along with his supporters came to him and asked to remove his make-shift shop. Later, they threw his produce and forcibly took away around Rs 12,000 and a handwritten note from his pocket. Even to the extent, around 150 persons had intercepted him and manhandled him.

A surge of stress-related drinking and alcohol-related deaths brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. has not tapered off the way Dr. Brian Lee, a transplant hepatologist at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine, had hoped. "I was hopeful that we would see declines in alcohol use, but I'm a practicing liver specialist, and the reality is, we had definitely seen a rise in patients with liver failure, which is really an extreme, I think, clinical condition from excessive alcohol use," Lee said. "So we had definitely seen a surge with the pandemic. And if you look at my clinic and in the hospital, at least from my experience, it hasn't gone down." New research, led by Lee and published Nov. 12 in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that a spike in alcohol consumption among people in the U.S. in 2020 continued to rise slightly in 2021 and 2022. The study used data from the National Health Interview Survey, administered by the U.S. Census Bureau, and compared the data with 2018 as the baseline. The study included almost 25,000 respondents from 2018, about 31,000 from 2020 and almost 27,000 from 2022. The increase in drinking was seen among both men and women and across all race and ethnic groups. In 2022, 69.3% of Americans reported some alcohol consumption in the previous year, a slight increase from 69% in 2020 and 66.34% in 2018. Additionally, the percentage of heavy drinkers rose to almost 6.3% of those surveyed in 2022, up from 6.13% in 2020 and 5.1% in 2018. "While the findings are troubling, they are not surprising," said Dr. Jagpreet Chhatwal, director of the Institute for Technology Assessment at Massachusetts General Hospital, who was not involved in the study. "Alcohol consumption has been steadily increasing over the past several years." White Americans had the highest change in being heavy drinkers, with roughly 7.3% claiming to be heavy drinkers, an increase from about 5.7% in 2018 and 7.1% in 2020. Women also were more likely to be heavy drinkers, with 6.45% reporting as such, compared with 6.1% of men. It doesn't take much alcohol to increase health dangers, Lee says: "If you're drinking more than one drink per day as a woman, you can be at risk for having liver disease." The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines heavy drinking for women as four or more drinks on any day or eight or more per week. For men, it is defined as five or more drinks a day or 15 or more per week. The institute considers a drink to be about 14 grams of pure alcohol, which equates to about 12 ounces of regular beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits. Though the researchers couldn't answer exactly why alcohol consumption was so high among the US adults surveyed, Lee has a few hypotheses. "They had really disruptive pandemic-related effects to their careers, losing jobs or losing their routine. Some of them have young children, too," he said. "We know that alcohol is used as a coping mechanism for stress. What starts as a habit can become addictive or a substance disorder." Chhatwal agreed, adding that life stressors like financial insecurity, work pressure or other mental health struggles may contribute to the rise in alcohol consumption. "Increasing stress and burnout in society exacerbate this tendency," he said. "The normalization of drinking culture also contributes to increased and excessive consumption. Unfortunately, most people recognize the damage caused by alcohol only in the later stages of liver disease, when treatment options are limited." According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deaths caused by alcohol use in the U.S. spiked during the pandemic, with over 49,000 in 2020. The height of the pandemic also saw an average of about 488 deaths per day due to excessive alcohol consumption; there was an increase of more than 29% from 2016-17 to 2020-21. Lee believes that research findings alone are no longer enough to deter people from overconsuming. "We've shown in studies that liver transplants for alcohol have increased fivefold in the last 20 years. We've also shown that alcohol deaths due to liver disease are surging," he said. "Now, it's about intervention. What interventions could actually work to save lives and what policies can we enact to stem the surge?" Chhatwal recommends heavier taxation and limiting sale hours within retailers to decrease alcohol accessibility. Lee and Chhatwal also suggest that more and better messaging on the risks of overconsumption could help counter these effects. "People need to know what is harmful alcohol use and what it does to your body," Lee said. "Medical professionals really need to speak to their patients about alcohol use openly and nonjudgmentally. Alcohol has been implicated in more than 200 diseases, whether it's heart disease, cancer, pancreatic disease – it really can affect your body, and both patients and doctors really need to be aware of this."

Read unlimited articles for free today: Already have an account? SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks took a bumpy path to sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Sunday’s 26-21 win over the Jets featured several special teams miscues, including a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by New York. On the flip side, the Seahawks got their second pick-6 in as many weeks and just enough production by Geno Smith and the offense. The Seahawks’ uneven performance was characteristic of a season in which they started 3-0, then lost five of six before winning another three in a row to take command of their underachieving division. Seattle (7-5) leads Arizona by one game, with a matchup against the Cardinals looming next weekend. Zach Charbonnet gave Seattle its first lead of the day on an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:37 to go, and the Seahawks’ defense capped another strong outing with a game-sealing stop on fourth down. After a sack by Leonard Williams gave the Jets a fourth-and-15 at the 34-yard line, Aaron Rodgers threw a desperation pass to Garrett Wilson that fell incomplete, giving Seattle the ball with 33 seconds left. What’s working Williams is on a tear. After losing out on NFC defensive player of the week honors last week to teammate Coby Bryant despite 2 1/2 sacks and four quarterback hits, “Big Cat” had an even better game. Williams finished with two sacks, three tackles for loss, a 92-yard interception return for a touchdown that was the longest pick-6 in NFL history by a defensive lineman, and a blocked extra point. The touchdown was the first of Williams’ career. He became the first player since 1982 with multiple sacks, an interception return for a touchdown and a blocked kick in a game. Maybe this week the league will agree he was the NFC’s best defender. What needs help The special teams could not have been much worse in the first half. The Seahawks fumbled three kickoffs, losing two, and allowed Kene Nwangwu’s 99-yard kickoff return for a TD. Dee Williams fumbled on a kickoff in the first quarter to give New York the ball at the 27-yard line, and four plays later, Rodgers hit Isaiah Davis for a touchdown to give the Jets a 14-0 lead. Laviska Shenault Jr. muffed two kicks and fumbled at the Seattle 38-yard line in the second quarter. Seattle also had an extra point blocked. Stock up Smith led his third game-winning drive of the season and his 11th since he became Seattle’s starting quarterback in 2022. Facing the team that drafted him in 2013, Smith went 20 of 31 for 206 yards and a touchdown. For the first time in five weeks, he was not intercepted. The Seahawks trailed by 14 points on two occasions, but Smith brought Seattle back while avoiding the untimely picks that dogged him recently. He threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Barner in the second quarter, and led the Seahawks on a go-ahead nine-play, 71-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. Stock down Coach Mike Macdonald and his staff have to address the problem with their kick returners, Shenault and Dee Williams. Two lost fumbles and several muffs could have easily cost Seattle the game. Injuries WR DK Metcalf left the game briefly with a knee issue but returned. ... P Michael Dickson was unavailable in the fourth quarter because of back spasms. Key number 38 — The Seahawks decided to go for it on fourth-and-6 at their own 33-yard line with 9:34 left in the game. A primary reason was that Dickson was unavailable to punt because of back spasms. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. The Jets were flagged for having 12 men on the field after sending a punt returner out, which gave Seattle fourth-and-1 at the 38. The Seahawks got a first down after Jets cornerback Quantez Stiggers was flagged for pass interference on Metcalf, and eight players later, Charbonnet scored to put Seattle ahead. Without going for it on fourth down from their own 38, the Seahawks likely would’ve lost. Up next The Seahawks will seek a season sweep of the Cardinals. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl Advertisement AdvertisementSigning with Dodgers was really easy decision for 2-time Cy Young winner Blake SnellWatch: Chicago Residents Tell Trump to Arrest Mayor Brandon Johnson If He Tries to Block Deportations

Mexican officials fear that rising tensions with the United States and Canada, in which they allege are serving as a conduit for Chinese parts and products into North America, could jeopardize their nation's inclusion in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) as Mexico scrambles to replace the Chinese auto parts and products. What Is USMCA? The USMCA, signed in 2020 during Trump's first term, is the president-elect's replacement of the 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiated by President George H.W. Bush and pushed through Congress by President Bill Clinton in the mid-1990s. In his 2016 White House bid, Trump slammed NAFTA and promised to negotiate a better trade agreement. When signed, the deal required more car parts to be manufactured by workers in one of the three countries, which is a 13 percent increase from the previous rule. However, Mexico's concerns have been exacerbated by President-elect Donald Trump winning a second term and a politically struggling Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau . Trump has recently made a tariff hike the core of his economic policy during his 2024 campaign, proposing a 10 percent general rate for all countries. In addition, Trudeau, has recently faced political opposition from his own Liberal Party as several members have asked him last month not to run for another term. Three Liberal members of Parliament said they were among 20-plus lawmakers from the party to sign a letter asking Trudeau to step down before the next election, which can take place any time between this fall and October 2025. The letter has not been publicly released. While over two dozen lawmakers are enough to raise alarm it's on the lower end of the 153 Liberals in Canada's House of Commons. What Are Mexican Officials Saying? Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Friday a campaign to reduce Mexico's reliance on Chinese parts, pushing for the substitution of these imports with locally produced or North American-made components. "We have a plan with the aim of substituting these imports that come from China, and producing the majority of them in Mexico, either with Mexican companies or primarily North American companies," Sheinbaum said. Newsweek has reached out to Mexico's Foreign Affairs via email for comment. Sheinbaum said this initiative traces back to the 2021 global supply chain crisis when factories around the world were stalled by a lack of parts. However, Mexico still faces challenges where efforts to localize semiconductor production have met with significant hurdles despite massive subsidies. The concerns also come after Mexico reaped substantial benefits under the trade agreement as automakers shifted production southward to capitalize on lower wages. However, allegations of Chinese components entering North America through Mexico have sparked outrage, particularly in the U.S., where concerns over the erosion of domestic manufacturing jobs loom large. In response, Mexican Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard highlighted Mexico's commitment to the effort, revealing plans to begin producing microchips in 2024 stating, "Of course they're not yet the most advanced chips, but we are going to start producing them here." This comes as Mexican officials say they have fewer imports of Chinese parts and products than the United States does. In an effort to safeguard its role in the trade agreement, Mexico's ruling Morena party, typically resistant to U.S. influence, is also eliminating a half-dozen independent regulatory and oversight agencies that were established by former presidents. Recent moves include restructuring regulatory bodies and revising laws to ensure compliance with the USMCA's provisions on foreign investment and competition. "What is being done is to create a reform so that its almost exactly equal to what exists in the United States, so we can clear that up," Ebrard said. This comes as Mexico hopes the rules of the agreement would prevent the U.S. or Canada from walking away when the trade pact comes up for review in 2026. What Are Experts Saying? While experts say that abandoning the accord is unlikely, they warn that maintaining the trade agreement's integrity will require navigating political and economic minefields. According to the Associated Press, Gabriela Siller, an economist with Banco Base, highlighted that the pact's review in 2026 could bring renewed scrutiny stating that if a country is dissatisfied with the trade agreement during the periodic reviews, like in 2026, there is a clause in the pact that says they can ask for a review each year to work out a solution. "I think they will play hardball with Mexico in the 2026 review," she added. The prospect of a U.S. withdrawal or prolonged stalemates remains unlikely, according to former U.S. trade official C.J. Mahoney under the Trump administration. Speaking at the Baker Institute, Mahoney suggested that critics of the agreement might push for delays in renewal rather than outright termination. "The costs of not renewing immediately are actually quite relatively low," Mahoney said. "I think the inclination to just kick the can down the road will be pretty strong." However, uncertainty over the pact's future could deter investment, striking a significant blow to Mexico's economy. Meanwhile, according to José María Ramos, a professor of public administration of the Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana, reducing reliance on Chinese imports will be challenging. "Reducing the dependence on Chinese imports is not going to be achieved in the short or medium term," Ramos told the Associated Press, emphasizing the complexity of overhauling supply chains. The long-term outlook for the stock of Divi’s Laboratories (₹5,846.75) will remain positive as long as the price holds above ₹4,650. In the short-term it could move in a narrow range with a positive bias. Immediate support levels for the stock are at ₹5,750 and ₹5,423. On the other hand, if the stock manages to close above ₹5,950, it has the potential to reach a new high. F&O pointers: The counter witnessed a rollover of 31 per cent to January series, which is quite healthy. Divi’s Lab Jan futures at ₹5,890.45 and Dec futures at ₹5,855.35 against the spot price of ₹5,846.75 signals existence and rollover of long positions. Option trading indicates that the stock could move in the ₹5,400-6,400 range. Strategy: Consider a bull-call spread using January options. Initiate by simultaneously selling 6000-strike (₹145.60) and buying the 5,900-strike (₹188.75) call options. The net cost for this strategy would be ₹43.15 or ₹4,315 (market lot 100 shares). The maximum loss (if the stock closes below ₹5,900 on expiry) would be the premium paid (₹4,315). However, a profit of ₹5,685 is possible should the stock rise to ₹6,000 before expiry. Hold the position for at least two weeks. Traders who can afford to take higher risk, can just buy Divi’s Lab 6,000-call (₹145.60) rather than executing a call spread. Target and stop-loss can be ₹225 and ₹60 respectively. Follow-up: Dixon Technologies provided profit opportunities last week as expected.
