The Kansas City Chiefs squeaked out a too-close-for-comfort victory over the Carolina Panthers. Entering the Week 12 matchup as double-digit road favorites, Kansas City continued a familiar trend with a 30-27 win. The 10-1 squad has won eight games by seven points or fewer this season. Meanwhile, the Panthers provided a tougher fight than anticipated despite falling to 3-8. Down 20-6 late in the first half, Bryce Young led a rally to tie the game with less than two minutes remaining. In just his second game with the Chiefs, rookie Spencer Shrader made the game-winning field goal as time expired. Outcome aside, Kansas City didn't win anyone over with Sunday's performance. If anything, observers were more impressed by Carolina nearly stunning the defending champions. "Despite the loss, that’s one heck of a performance for the Panthers. Bryce Young looked legit today," Syracuse.com's Ryan Talbot wrote. "Still a ton of questions about the Chiefs." "The Panthers are clearly improving as a team but still... giving up 27 to them is a bad sign for the Chiefs defense," radio host Soren Petro said. "Imagine if someone had told us — back in Sept — that Bryce Young and the Panthers would take the Chiefs to the wire in late Nov.," ESPN's Kimberley A. Martin said. "Chiefs are 10-1 but look like they're 6-5," Jim Rome opined. "There isn't a football team on earth - the NFL, college, high school - that the Kansas City Chiefs can't beat by exactly three points," Rany Jazayerli quipped. Harry How/Getty Images In a season of low-scoring wins, the Chiefs may take solace in Patrick Mahomes leading the way in a narrow triumph. The star quarterback completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 60 yards, his highest tally since February's Super Bowl. Yet Young countered with one of his best NFL performances. Last year's No. 1 pick accumulated a season-high 263 passing yards with a touchdown and no turnovers. It's tough to consistently win close, but the Chiefs keep getting the job done. They'll look to win by any means necessary when hosting the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday. There's good news for PlayStation Plus subscribers, because Sony is about to reveal a new batch of free PS4 and PS5 games. The December 2024 PS Plus Essentials will be announced by Sony on November 27, before launching a week later on December 3. December's batch of games will replace the current line-up, which includes Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, Ghostwire Tokyo and Death Note Killer Within. If you want to grab the current games and next month's releases, then now is a good time to join PS Plus, because memberships are discounted as part of Sony's Black Friday sale. As for the December line-up, fans have been attempting to predict the next wave of games ahead of the official reveal. Based on the monthly predictions thread over on Reddit , many fans believe Forspoken, Hades, Atomic Heart, Terminator Resistance or Resident Evil Village will join the line-up. Resident Evil Village feels long overdue for PS Plus, so don't be surprised if it finally makes an appearance in December. You can also add Resident Evil 2 and Resi 3 Remake to that list. Terminator Resistance is another game that feels like a good fit for PlayStation Plus in December. Elsewhere, there are plenty of picks for Assassin's Creed games such as Mirage and Unity. Ubisoft's Prince of Persia The Lost Crown also gets a mention. Other realistic picks include Deathloop, Signalis, Suicide Squad, Lords of the Fallen, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Quarry, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, Snowrunner and Viewfinder. That's on top of Wrestlequest, Judgement, Payday 3, Jusant, Cocoon, Like a Dragon Gaiden, Moving Out, CrossCode, LEGO Hobbit, Everspace 2, Shenmue 3, Mafia 3 and Stray. I could definitely see Stray making an appearance after all this time, although the publisher may want to add some distance following its recent release on Nintendo Switch. Other people believe we could see games like Castlevania Advance Collection, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Planet Zoo, Hitman World of Assassination, or EA Sports WRC make an appearance in December. The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Hogwarts Legacy, Sonic Frontiers, Subnautica: Below Zero, Harold Halibut, Dave the Diver, Cult of the Lamb, Metro Exodus, The Pathless and Art of Rally also receive votes. Some of the more eye-catching picks include Cyberpunk 2077 and Sea of Thieves, which both seem unlikely, but would equally make fantastic additions. A PS Plus release of Sea of Thieves would help boost the player count, while a Cyberpunk 2077 launch would help CD Projekt sell more units of its Phantom Liberty DLC. A few Final Fantasy games feature in the predictions thread, although one of them seems unrealistic. Indeed, while I could definitely see Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core joining the line-up, I don't think we'll be seeing Final Fantasy 16. Other unlikely additions include Rise of the Ronin, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Gran Turismo 7, Topspin 2K25, God of War Ragnarok, Lies of P, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Dark Souls Remastered, Red Dead Redemption and Nier Automata.Manitoba continues to have the highest rates of child poverty in Canada, according to findings released in the 2024 Manitoba Child and Family Poverty Report Tuesday. The report highlights an increase in child and family poverty in the province, with Winnipeg Centre showing the highest rate of child poverty among urban federal ridings. Data from the 2022 tax filers reveals a sharp rise in poverty rates, particularly among children under 18 and under 6. The report’s findings also show that the percentage of children living in food-insecure households in Manitoba rose to 32.6% in 2023 from 25.7% in 2022. “As the provincial government is getting ready to roll out its poverty reduction strategy, we hope they will engage with us on the findings and the proposed solutions in this report,” said Dr. Sid Frankel, senior scholar at the University of Manitoba and member of the Campaign 2000 national steering committee. “Our recommendations are not a comprehensive list but offer some small, intermediate and large actions the province can commit to now, and then again, of course, at budget time.” Experts warn of the serious consequences of food insecurity for children and adolescents, who are more likely to face health issues, including increased hospital visits and mental health challenges. Dr. Natalie Riediger, Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba, noted, “Children and adolescents living in food insecure households are more likely to be hospitalized, visit the emergency room, require day surgery, and access health services for mental or substance use disorders.” Local organizations also see the issue worsening. “Every day, we see the need growing in our community and the desperation that unmet needs bring about,” said Mary Burton of Zoongizi Ode. “There have been some positive movements from the government but when the situation has been allowed to get this bad, we need much more.” The Christmas Cheer Board has reported a 27% increase in requests for help since 2021, with more than 21,000 requests expected this year. “We have even moved away from providing the traditional Christmas dinner because people are having so much trouble just meeting basic needs,” said Shawna Bell, executive director of the Christmas Cheer Board. Meaghan Erbus from Harvest Manitoba echoed these concerns, “The stats we provided for this report are just the tip of the iceberg. Our upcoming Voices report, to be released in December, has stories that prove resiliency but also heartbreak.” The report also highlights the deepening income inequality in Manitoba, where the richest 10% earn 22.6 times more than the lowest 10%. “It is clear that income inequality is alive and well in Manitoba,” said Kate Kehler of the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg. “Inequality is greater in Manitoba than in Canada as a whole. We need an equity lens on taxes at all three levels of government.” The report calls for immediate and comprehensive action to address these issues, with a particular focus on addressing the root causes of poverty, improving access to basic needs, and ensuring that education and social systems work for all Manitobans. Dr. Sid Frankel said, “Education got us into this mess and education will get us out of it,” quoting the late Murray Sinclair. “We know there are better ways to educate and care for our children and we need the commitment to implement them.” As the province prepares to launch its poverty reduction strategy, advocates said the government needs to take these recommendations seriously and prioritize urgent action to reduce child and family poverty.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA's two stuck astronauts just got their space mission extended again. That means they won't be back on Earth until spring — 10 months after rocketing into orbit on Boeing's Starliner capsule. NASA announced the latest delay in Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams' homecoming Tuesday. The two test pilots planned to be away just a week or so when they blasted off June 5 on Boeing's first astronaut flight to the International Space Station. Their mission grew from eight days to eight months after NASA decided to send the company's problem-plagued Starliner capsule back empty in September. FILE - This image made from a NASA live stream shows NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore during a press conference from the International Space Station on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024. (NASA via AP, File) Now the pair won't return until the end of March or even April because of a delay in launching their replacements, according to NASA. A fresh crew needs to launch before Wilmore and Williams can return and the next mission was bumped more than a month, according to the space agency. NASA's next crew of four was supposed to launch in February, followed by Wilmore and Williams' return home by the end of that month alongside two other astronauts. But SpaceX needs more time to prepare the new capsule for liftoff. That launch is now scheduled for no earlier than late March. NASA said it considered using a different SpaceX capsule to fly up the replacement crew in order to keep the flights on schedule. However, it decided the best option was to wait for the new capsule to transport the next crew. NASA prefers to have overlapping crews at the space station for a smoother transition, according to officials. Most space station missions last six months, with a few reaching a full year. Stock futures rise Sunday ahead of shortened trading week: Live updatesTORONTO, Nov. 26, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This Sunday, December 1, on World AIDS Day, and the start of Indigenous AIDS Awareness Week, the 27 th annual Friends for Life Bike Rally launches its Holiday Season Fundraising Campaign. As local AIDS Service Organizations see a significant increase in demand for their life-changing services, the fundraiser aims to raise $50,000 in December – a month of generosity and giving from coast-to-coast-to-coast. The Friends for Life Bike Rally is Canada's longest-distance annual charity cycling event from Toronto to Montreal, raising funds for the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation (PWA) , AIDS Community Care Montreal (ACCM) and Trellis HIV & Community Care (formerly HIV/AIDS Regional Services – Kingston) to support to those living with HIV/AIDS and fight stigma. The upcoming Friends for Life Bike Rally aims to raise a total of $1.8M by the end of its next charity ride that runs from August 3 to 8, 2025. Recent research shows that an estimated 1,833 new HIV infections occurred in Canada in 2022. This means that almost five people were infected with HIV in Canada every day. These are new infections that do not account for newcomers to Canada, immigrating with HIV – a population that makes up a large portion of new community members seeking HIV related services. Thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS rely on the vital services offered by PWA, ACCM and Trellis such as: Financial assistance Wellness programs Health and therapeutic care Social supports Harm reduction Food banks and more Unfortunately, on October 4, 2024, PWA – Canada's largest – was forced to temporarily close its Financial Assistance Program until March 2025 due to the increased demand caused by inflation and the rise in cost of living. The agency has also reported a substantial increased demand for access to its food bank and essentials market services. Services offered by PWA, ACCM and Trellis ensure our at-risk communities have access to the resources they need to improve their health outcomes. The Friends for Life Bike Rally and its volunteers, cyclists, and crew invite new and returning donors to show some extra generosity, compassion and understanding this holiday season. Your support for charitable causes that matter to you creates a ripple effect, spreading hope and making a meaningful difference in the lives of so many. Together, we can help foster positive change for those in need. These people could be your friends, family, loved ones, neighbours and/or colleagues. Next Tuesday, December 3, also marks Giving Tuesday, the world's largest generosity movement and opportunity to unleash the power of people to transform communities. Everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts. Those who are able are encouraged to make a tax-deductible donation to the Friends for Life Bike Rally. Here's how you can make an impact: $40: Provides ten community members with transportation to medical appointments $60: Funds a peer-led support group for people living with HIV $100: Support a community member with access to medication $200: Ensures one family has groceries for a week To learn more about the Friends for Life Bike Rally, visit BikeRally.org . Quotes: "On World AIDS Day on December 1 or Giving Tuesday on December 3, also known as the "opening day of giving season," we invite folks to show support for people living with HIV/AIDS and make a tax-deductible donation to the Friends for Life Bike Rally. Your generosity over the holidays will help support the life-changing services offered by PWA, ACCM, and Trellis. When we work together, we ensure community members can access much-needed support, and build a stronger, more resilient community." – Ariel Benibgui (He/Him) , Co-Chair, Friends for Life Bike Rally "Each and every year, we proudly ride to make a positive difference because of /AIDS behind. The magic of the Bike Rally is magnificent. It's a force and power of love, truth and healing where we care for the family of HIV/AIDS. Your donations make sure that clients can pay for things like their transit fare to access programs and services, the money to fix a broken phone, or ensure they get language support for essential health care so they can communicate with their doctor, and so much more." – Suzanne Paddock (She/Her), Executive Director, Toronto People with AIDS Foundation (PWA) "As a community member, the financial assistance I've received has been more than just support, it's been a lifeline. It's meant having the resources to get to essential appointments, access nutritious food and feel a sense of dignity and belonging. Your generosity doesn't just provide services... It transforms lives, strengthens our community and gives people like me the opportunity to thrive." – Anonymous Community member, Toronto People with AIDS Foundation (PWA) Quick Facts: The Friends for Life Bike Rally is Canada's annual longest-distance cycling fundraiser in support of those living with HIV/AIDS Since 1999, the Friends for Life Bike Rally has: Raised $27.5M+ to support those living with HIV/AIDS Had 5,550 cyclists 2,200 crew volunteers to support the ride In 2024, the Friends for Life Bike Rally raised $1.6M HIV remains a major global public health issue, having claimed more than 40 million lives with ongoing transmission globally The virus has infected 88.4 million people worldwide An estimated 65,270 people have HIV in Canada An estimated 89 per cent are diagnosed 85 per cent of those diagnosed are on treatment 95 per cent of those on treatment have achieved viral suppression and cannot transmit the virus (undetectable=untransmutable) Toronto has seen a sustained increase in reported HIV infections since 2016 (with the exception being during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw a decrease in sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing) Media Inquiries: media@bikerally.org Image: Hundreds of cyclists cross the finish line in Quebec after six days of riding from Toronto to Montreal for the 2024 Friends for Life Bike Rally, as the city saw its wettest day in history caused by rain from Tropical Storm Debby. Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will observe ‘Deeksha Diwas’ on November 29 to honour the day when K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) began his fast-unto-death for Telangana statehood in 2009. Party leaders and activists will participate in the event across Telangana, with all 33 district offices holding commemorations led by senior leaders, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) announced on Sunday, November 24. Preparatory meetings for the event will be held on November 26. KTR noted that Telangana now faces challenges similar to 2009 and stressed the importance of uniting and protecting the state from the incumbent Congress government. Recalling KCR’s fast at NIMS hospital in 2009 which had led to widespread support, he said the BRS supremo’s decision forced the then United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Union government to announce a separate statehood for Telangana on December 9, 2009. Although KCR will not take part in the current event, the party will hold a meeting on December 9 at Medchal, unveiling a statue of Telangana Thalli to mark the end of the Deeksha Diwas celebrations.

The GE9X turbofan is already shattering records as the largest and most sophisticated turbofan ever built. With a record-breaking thrust of 134,300 pounds and an equally impressive core speed of 11,119 revolutions per minute (RPM), the engine stands out as one of the most significant leaps in aviation history. However, given its size and sheer power output, the question now arises: Which jets have the engine under their wings? When General Electric Company (GE Aerospace) first announced the GE9X in February 2012, it discussed a more robust successor to its already powerful GE90 turbofan. The engine promised aerodynamic efficiency, a higher bypass ratio, and a better engine pressure ratio while also being built from advanced, lighter, yet more impact-resistant materials. From lower NOx, CO2, and noise emissions to better fuel consumption, the aircraft engine supplier was looking to improve the GE90 in every way possible and all in time to put the engine on the next series of Boeing's 777X jetliners . GE had already worked closely with Boeing on several commercial aircraft, supplying engines for the 787, 777, 767, and 747. With the next installment of the 777 series, the 777X — the world's largest twin-engine passenger plane — GE was clearly out to make something special. The Boeing 777X has three variants: the 777-9, 777-8, and 777-8 Freighter. If GE's goal with the GE9X was to match the might of these aircraft, then they have succeeded. The GE9X is a dual-rotor high-bypass turbofan with 16 fourth-generation composite blades housed in a composite case. Its length and diameter are 220 inches and 121 inches, respectively. The engine weighs 22,000 pounds, which is heavier than the GE90, despite having fewer fan blades (six fewer blades than the GE90) and using lighter epoxy resin and ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials in its build. The GE9X is, by no doubt, one of the most powerful aircraft engines to date. Its first ground test was in April 2016, and its first flight was in March 2018 on a Boeing 747-400. In January 2020, GE and Boeing finally took a 777-9 equipped with two GE9X engines on its maiden flight. Currently, GE will be the only engine supplier for the Boeing 777X, thus making the GE9X exclusively for it. In November 2023 alone, Emirates had 460 orders of GE9X engines, with Singapore placing an additional 22 orders just a year before.NEW YORK, Nov. 24, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WHY: Rosen Law Firm, a global investor rights law firm, announces the filing of a class action lawsuit on behalf of purchasers of common stock of Hasbro, Inc. Seibert misses an extra point late as the Commanders lose their 3rd in a row, 34-26 to the Cowboys
The post-mortems explaining Kamala Harris ’ loss have been ongoing since election night, and after weeks of radio silence, the top brass of her failed presidential campaign have finally weighed in — to claim there’s little they could have done differently to defeat Donald Trump . In an exclusive interview given to the podcast Pod Save America , campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon, senior adviser David Plouffe , deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks, and senior adviser Stephanie Cutter sat down with host Dan Pfeiffer to answer questions about the strategic choices made by the campaign. In an interview that felt decisively light on introspection and self accountability, the strategists repeatedly highlighted that the campaign had been saddled with a “a jump ball race” in a “pretty brutal” electoral atmosphere. “The truth is that we really thought this was a very close race. We talked about the entire time we saw it as a margin of error race, almost the entire time the vice president was in the race,” O’Malley Dillon said. “But, you know, we expected this to be close.” When asked about the decision to bring in prominent Republican figures like former Rep. Liz Cheney to act as surrogates for Harris — and hopefully draw in moderates or disaffected Republicans — the vice president’s campaign team argued that the blowback to Cheney’s involvement was overstated. “We’d spent a lot of time with voters who we were concerned weren’t going to vote. And the fact that Liz Cheney was supporting Kamala Harris was not an issue raised by any of them,” Plouffe said. “We needed some percentage of Republicans, but I think what people forget is, it’s more the independents who act like Republicans, where issues of democracy, of how unhinged he is, Project 2025, mattered to them, even as some conservative Democrats.” “It can sound like making excuses,” he continued. “This political environment sucked, OK? At the end of the day, we had to raise people’s concern and the threat level of a Trump second term. I think if you look at our internal data, and Quentin can speak to this, we did a lot of that. We just didn’t get it to the extent that we needed to to win.” Editor’s picks The 100 Best TV Episodes of All Time The 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time According to exit polls, the Harris campaign’s efforts to win over Republican voters and even moderates were not successful. This year, Harris only won 5 percent of Republican votes — a smaller percentage than Democrats won in either 2016 or 2020. Harris also won a smaller percentage of moderates and independents than Joe Biden did when he beat Trump last election cycle. At the same time, Democratic turnout cratered: the percentage of the electorate who identified as Democrats this year was down substantially from recent elections. Plouffe acknowledged that the campaign anticipated that it needed to win more independent voters and Republicans than Democrats did in 2020, but did not explain why so many fewer Democrats voted this year and was not asked to clarify that, either. In the Harris team’s view, her campaign could not overcome Trump’s sprawling Super PAC funding apparatus (despite Democrats holding record-breaking campaign coffers), digital dominance, and control of culture war narratives. Plouffe attributed that to the Trump campaign and Republican outside groups more actively coordinating their strategies together than Democrats do. “We have to stop playing a different game as it relates to Super PACs than the Republicans,” he said. “Love our Democratic lawyers. LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Austin Seibert missed his second extra point of the game with 21 seconds left after Washington’s Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin connected on an 86-yard touchdown, Dallas’ Juanyeh Thomas returned the ensuing onside kick attempt for a touchdown, and the Cowboys pulled out a 34-26 victory Sunday that extended the Commanders’ skid to three games. Seibert, who missed the previous two games with a right hip injury, was wide left on the point-after attempt following a low snap. Thomas then took the kick back 43 yards as the Cowboys (4-7) ended their losing streak at five in improbable fashion. Part of that was the play of backup Cooper Rush, who threw for 247 yards and two TDs in his third start in place of starter Dak Prescott. Part was also the defense forcing two turnovers, as Chauncey Golston ripped the ball out of Brian Robinson Jr.’s hands for what was called an interception of Daniels in the second quarter, and Donovan Wilson stripped John Bates midway through the fourth. KaVonte Turpin provided the fireworks with a spinning, 99-yard kickoff return TD seconds after Daniels found Zach Ertz in the end zone and scored on a 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to three with 3:02 left. In the final three minutes alone, the Commanders (7-5) scored 10 points and allowed Thomas' TD. All that after the score was 10-9 through three quarters before madness ensued. Washington's playoff hopes that looked solid not long ago are now in serious jeopardy after losing to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Dallas. Before the scoring outburst late, much of this defeat had to do with Daniels and the offense not being able to find any kind of a rhythm. The Cowboys did, despite playing without their two best offensive linemen, top cornerback and starting tight end. Rush's 6-yard pass to Jalen Tolbert was Dallas' first third-quarter TD of the season, and his 22-yarder to Luke Schoonmaker came after Wilson's forced fumble. Daniels finished 25 of 38 for 274 yards, including his second interception of the game on a failed Hail Mary as the clock expired. Rico Dowdle ran 19 times for 86 yards to spring the upset for the Cowboys, who were 10 1/2-point underdogs on BetMGM Sportsbook. Cowboys: LG Tyler Smith was inactive with ankle and knee injuries. ... In fact, there’s always a stack of boxes of things waiting to be tested In my home. Despite my access to all of this fun tech, there are still some items that I’d love to add to my daily routine. If you’re still trying to figure out what to get the tech lover in your life, here are my suggestions. A scrolling ring If you have a Kindle or TikTok habit, you know all too well the hand cramping that comes from having to hold and flip through with your thumb. There is a solution—the scrolling ring. Worn on your finger, you can press the forward, backward or select button on your ring and control your phone or tablet remotely. I have been eyeing one for my late-night TikTok habit; given the way healthcare is going, this $30 solution for future thumb joint issues seems like a wise investment. A mini thermal printer Thermal printers have gotten smaller and smaller, and now they can fit in your pocket. Why a thermal printer? They can quickly produce stickers, notes, even temporary tattoos. A heated neck massager There’s this neck massager that looks like a scarf you stretch around you, and put your arms through. I want one. I can see how the pressure from your arms would help the massager get right up against your neck to really dig in and work out your bound-up muscles. Super Mario Bros. brick lamp I’ve been obsessed with this Super Mario Bros. question mark light up brick. It attaches to the wall or wherever else you’d like to stick it, and yes, you can actually punch it, and yes, it will make that deeply satisfying sound effect from the classic game. In November 2023 alone, Emirates had 460 orders of GE9X engines, with Singapore placing an additional 22 orders just a year before.
