(AP) — New Jersey gambling regulators have handed out $40,000 in fines to two sportsbooks and a tech company for violations that included taking bets on unauthorized events, and on games that had already ended. In information made public Monday, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement fined DraftKings $20,000. It also levied $10,000 fines on Rush Street Interactive NJ and the sports betting technology company Kambi. According to documents released by the state, Rush Street accepted 16 bets worth $1,523 in Nov. 2021 on a college basketball game between the University of North Carolina-Asheville and Tennessee Tech University after the game had already concluded with a UNC victory. Kambi told the enforcement division that a trader had failed to manually remove that game from its betting markets, saying it had stopped receiving messages from its own sports data provider due to a network connectivity error. Kambi said it has updated its guidelines and retrained its traders to prevent a recurrence. Kambi, which is based in Malta, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment Monday. Rush Street declined comment, and DraftKings had no immediate comment Monday. DraftKings stopped using Kambi in 2021. In March 2022 Rush Street took seven bets totaling just under $2,900 on three Magic City Jai Alai games after the results were already known. Kambi told the division it experienced a connectivity issue that allowed the bets to be accepted after the games were over. An explanation of what Kambi did to address the situation was blacked out in documents released by the division. A month earlier Rush Street took 13 wagers worth $8,150 with pre-match odds on a Professional Golf Association match after the event had already begun. In this case, Kambi told the division a newly hired trader failed to enter the correct closing time time for bets on the event. The trader and a supervisor underwent retraining. DraftKings was fined for taking bets on unapproved events including Russian basketball for nine months in 2020 and 2021. It eventually voided over $61,000 in bets and returned the money to customers after being directed to do so by the state. In this case, Kambi told the division it misidentified this particular Russian basketball league as one that was approved for wagering in New Jersey. DraftKings told the state it did not catch the error, either. In 2020, DraftKings accepted 484 wagers on unapproved table tennis matches. Kambi incorrectly enabled the events for wagering without conditions required by the state, the division said. In Feb. 2022, the division said DraftKings took pre-season NFL bets involving specific players but did not give the state specific information on what information was to be included in the bets, drawing 182 wagers worth nearly $7,000 that were later voided and refunded to customers. Quick Links Distinctive Bubble Canopy Design F-16's Golden Canopy Surrounding the canopy's concerns Maintenance practices and upgrade Global repair networks Advancing to the latest Models The F-16 Fighter pilot's view is one of the best among other fighter jets. The unique reclined seat offers better G-force tolerance and comfort, enhancing the unrestricted view and the fighter's overall performance. The cockpit also features a high pilot position with a reclined seat that is 30° angle, accommodating taller pilots. The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a versatile fighter aircraft capable of air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It can locate targets in all weather conditions and detect low-flying aircraft in radar ground clutter. In the air-to-surface role, it can fly more than 434 NM (500 mi, 860 km) and has a flying range of over 1,740 NM (2002 mi, 3222 km). It delivers weapons with superior accuracy, defends against enemy aircraft, and returns to its starting point at a maximum speed of reaching twice the speed of sound or Mach 2 at altitude (1,500 MPH, 2414 km/h). Distinctive Bubble Canopy Design The Fighter features a bird-proof polycarbonate bubble canopy with 360° visibility, a 40° look-down angle, and an elevated pilot's seat. It lacks a forward bow frame, allowing better forward vision and improved vision over the side and to the rear. Its ACES II is a third-generation ejection seat system manufactured by Collins Aerospace, offering a unique recline as other fighters have a tilted seat at 13–15°. A fully redundant digital electronic sequencer controls the seat. It features advanced features such as sensing ejection conditions, selecting appropriate drogue and main parachute deployments, and being controlled by a fully redundant digital electronic sequencer. The F-16 Block 70/72 and F-16 Viper Upgrade feature new cockpit displays, safety improvements, and missionized aft cockpit flexibility. The updated cockpit layout includes a 6"x 8" high-resolution center pedestal display for precise lethality and unprecedented battlespace awareness for pilots. The F-16 jet, unlike its predecessors, features a sidearm stick. An aircraft canopy is a transparent enclosure over the cockpit of some aircraft. It provides a controlled environment and a greater field of view. Its shape minimizes aerodynamic drag while maximizing visibility for pilots and crew members. A bubble, constructed without bracing, offers a wider, unobstructed field of view, often providing 360° all-round visibility. The designs of bubble canopies can vary, with some built into the upper rear fuselage and others flush with the fuselage. The bubble canopy gained widespread use during WWII, similar to the P-51D Mustang. F-16's Golden Canopy Modern fighters like the F-22 Raptor, F-35 , and F-16 have treatment on their canopy, made of polycarbonate or plexiglass, with a thin layer of malleable metal, typically indium tin oxide alloy or gold, between layers. This allows the section to be transparent to radar waves. On the F-16, the "golden" bubble replaced the original design, which did not have this treatment. Some F-16s have a fixed, gold rear canopy section, and the front section uses the traditional section. The gold coloring is a thin sheet of gold sandwiched between laminated plastic sheets that form the aircraft's canopy. It reduces infrared radiation and protects against laser threats. The gold coating reflects infrared light, keeping the cockpit cooler and protecting sensitive equipment and personnel from heat. It also minimizes the cockpit's visibility for infrared-guided missiles and other targeting systems. Although it does not provide radiation protection, the gold color enhances the aircraft's and crew's survivability by mitigating heat and improving stealth capabilities against certain threats. The cockpit has many edges and corners; the gold foil serves the same basic function on other aircraft. The golden color was discontinued due to its negative scratch and the low radar cross-section RCS. It is typically seen in a small window behind the pilot. Surrounding the canopy's concerns The Air Force is pursuing a maintenance project similar to Meggitt Safety Systems' contract for a two-place seat canopy actuator on the F16 from 2016. Dual-seat F-16 aircraft are in line for actuator replacement. Also, due to aging, Colorado Air National Guard maintainers are incorporating new maintenance practices to ensure the 140th Wing's F-16 Falcons and Vipers remain mission-capable and ready to defend the nation 24/7. One such practice involves repairing canopy sill longerons, which support the aircraft's structure between the frame and skin. Canopy sill longeron cracking appeared in 90 aircraft across the US Air Force inventory of F-16s in 2023, leading to a grounding tail-end. The structural integrity of the longeron is getting worse, and it is suspected to have become a fleet-wide issue. Maintenance practices and upgrade Lockheed Martin approves Derco Co., the exclusive distributor of PPG's F-16 replacement canopies, designed for peak performance in military operational environments. These made-to-spec windows feature innovative technology and surpass US Air Force performance requirements. They offer superior optical clarity and light transmittance, chemically strengthened glass for durability and compatibility with night vision systems, and a 550-knot bird-impact resistant acrylic/polycarbonate interlayered bond. Additionally, they have proprietary protective coatings for low observables and solar heat reduction. The Air Force research laboratory has developed a product called HydroSkip, which repels water from aircraft transparencies. The product aims to improve visibility during heavy rain, allowing pilots to navigate and land safely. HydroSkip is designed to prevent rain from pooling or remaining stagnant on the F-16 canopy, the transparent enclosure over the cockpit. The product will soon be available to the entire F-16 Fighting Falcon community. In November 2024, Turkey decided to modernize its Air Force's F-16s using resources developed locally in recent years. Their indigenous system replaces the Modular Mission Computer MMC and offers a flexible architecture for integrating new weapons and sensors. Turkey has also developed advanced avionics displays and interfaces for cockpit upgrades similar to those found in Lockheed Martin's F-16V Block 70/72 variant. This can be concerning, remembering the Mitsubishi F-2, Japan's fighter based on the US F-16, which was involved in a midair incident during an aerial interception on October 10, 2021. The aircraft was on its way to intercept a foreign aircraft that could trespass on Japanese airspace. However, five minutes after takeoff, the F-2's cockpit canopy and emergency ladder fell off, exposing the pilot to air mid-flight. No injuries or damage to property due to the incident have been reported. Advancing to the latest Models The US Air Force is retiring older F-16s; the newer Block 40 and Block 50 are expected to fly into the 2040s and will upgrade 608 "Post Block" F-16s through the Post Block Integration Team PoBIT project, managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's Fighters and Advanced Aircraft Directorate. " In one of the largest modernization efforts in U.S. Air Force history, 608 F-16s – comprised of Blocks 40 and 50 – will undergo up to 22 modifications designed to improve lethality and ensure the fourth-generation fighter remains effective in meeting current and future threats." The US Air Force on Feb. 28, 2022 The new F-16 Block 70 fighter has a modernized Cockpit that simplifies pilot interactions and enables quicker decision-making in combat flying. It also has enhanced data link capabilities, including a Link 16 jam-resistant network, allowing real-time access to critical information. In 1978, the F-16 aircraft, which had been a symbol of the US Air Force. Over 4,600 F-16s have been produced, and production continues to grow. The F-16 is a ubiquitous aircraft flown by 25 other air forces worldwide while, in 2023, over 800 F-16s remain with the US Air Force . The F-16 celebrates its golden anniversary this year. However, the plane hasn't remained frozen in time, but rather has continued to evolve.
