In twists to the ongoing high-profile unauthorised phone tapping case, the Regional Passport Officer (RPO) has permanently suspended the Indian passports of prime accused former SIB chief T. Prabhakar Rao and his associate Shravan Kumar Rao, who are reported in the US. Rao, meanwhile, has petitioned the US to recognise him as a political refugee. Their passports were suspended under Section 10 of Indian Passport Act based on a representation submitted to the RPO by the special investigating team (SIT) that is probing the phone-tapping case. The CBI, the nodal agency, and Interpol have alerted the US immigration department about the charges against the two accused, sources in the TG police said. Despite Rao's counsel stating that as the officer’s involvement in the case was not been established, SIT recently filed a counter in Delhi with case details and evidence against Rao and Kumar in the case, sources told Deccan Chronicle. SIT sources said that the Interpol is expected to issue a red corner notice (RCN) against Prabhakar Rao. It is reported that CBI has coordinated with the US government immigration department in Texas with the case sheet to expedite the process of issuing the red corner notice. Speaking on the impact of cancelling the passport, High Court advocate P.N. Arun Kumar said it could impact an application for the green card in the US. The US immigration services would require additional data in the matter. It would also prevent international travel. In the US, a cancelled passport could lead to immigration issues. If other protections are not available, and the person is already in the US, a cancelled passport may lead to the revocation of their visa. The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a hot 10-5 start and look like they have the pieces in place to sustain success throughout the regular season. But like with all teams looking to make a win-now push, there’s always room to grow. One of the motifs of the LeBron James- Anthony Davis Lakers has been trying to truly identify who the third scorer is. Since winning the title in 2020, however, they have failed to concretely identify a true third offensive option. Some nights it’s D’Angelo Russell; Austin Reaves; Rui Hachimura; and Dalton Khecht. Should Los Angeles Lakers Pursue Cam Thomas? FanSided’s Michael Saenz recently threw out the idea of the Lakers targeting Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas to add to their offensive portfolio. Thomas would be a stark upgrade in offensive explosiveness from Russell if he were to replace him as a starter. If he were to do the same with Knecht, it would take pressure off of him and allow him to develop at his own pace instead of becoming an offensive leader as a rookie. Also Read: Dalton Knecht Was A Strategic Pick For The Los Angeles Lakers Thomas is also known to score in spurts and could be an exciting option to come off the bench to shoot in bunches. He would be able to supplement Gabe Vincent and Max Christie, who have both been underwhelming in the box scores through 15 games. Thomas, 6’3′′ in his fourth season out of LSU, is averaging 24.4 points per game shooting 38.5% from three on the year. This article first appeared on LAFB Network and was syndicated with permission.
Bob Daemmrich/ZUMA Democrats will have the unenviable task of pushing back against a second Trump administration as the minority party across Washington. And in the House of Representatives, some Democrats are openly wondering whether the septuagenarian leader of their caucus on the Judiciary Committee is up to the task. According to the New York Times , a movement is afoot to force 77-year old Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a member from New York since 1992, to step aside and let a younger, more energetic opponent of Donald Trump take charge. If the motif sounds familiar, it may be because the Democrats are generally led by aging long-timers, from President Joe Biden in the White House to committee chairs like Nadler. Now, they must reckon with whether loyalty to these elder statesmen is a winning strategy. The battle raises the question of how far Democrats will go to shake up their own ranks. Two years ago, Nancy Pelosi, then 82, stepped down as leader of the House Democrats. Today, she is reportedly one voice urging a changing of the guard on the Judiciary Committee. According to the Times , Pelosi has encouraged Rep. Jamie Raskin, who first won his Maryland seat in 2o16, to challenge Nadler for the job of ranking member on the committee. Raskin, a constitutional lawyer, gained a nationwide profile for leading the second impeachment trial against Trump in 2021. Current House leadership, according to the Times , are staying neutral in the race. But for Democrats, who generally don’t abide challengers to incumbent leaders, public neutrality is a marked shift. Still, Raskin has taken his time weighing any challenge to Nadler, with no decision announced. The debate over who will lead the committee’s Democrats is part of a prospective much larger remaking of the Democratic Party in the weeks, months, and years to come. After losing the 2024 elections, the party already has multiple candidates seeking to lead the Democratic National Committee, the central organ of the party, offering competing visions for how to win back a majority of Americans. Within the halls of Congress, Democrats similarly must grapple with the most effective way to hold a Trump administration accountable while in the minority. In the context of that struggle, the choice of a Democratic leader at the Judiciary Committee is unusually consequential. Trump is widely expected to try to use the Justice Department, which the panel oversees, to exact political revenge. From immigration to abortion and beyond, he promises to push the bounds of presidential power. The committee will be at the center of those fights, and its leader charged with playing a central roles in illuminating and fighting any abuses. Nadler isn’t the only ranking Democrat facing resistance. The Democrat currently leading the caucus on the Agriculture Committee, Rep. David Scott of Georgia, is 79. Two Democrats are challenging him for the spot. And Rep. Jared Huffman of California, 60, is challenging Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona, 76, for the top spot on the Committee on Natural Resources. “Now, with the shockwave of Trump’s ‘First 100 Days’ agenda about to slam into our committees, effective committee work led by our Ranking Members will be critical to limiting the damage from Trump’s Project 2025 agenda,” Huffman said in a statement outlining his pitch. (Grijalva has said he will only serve two more years in Congress as he battles lung cancer.) These fights raise the question of how far Democrats will go to shake up their own ranks in the wake of a demoralizing loss—or if they will stay the course under leaders who just weeks ago oversaw that defeat. The Latest: State funeral for Jimmy Carter will be Jan. 9Artificial intelligence (AI) offers many exciting long-term possibilities, but the technology's thirst for computing power is a certainty that's fueled remarkable growth in semiconductors. Chip companies like Nvidia ( NVDA -2.09% ) and Broadcom ( AVGO -1.47% ) have soared on the realization that AI is creating billions of dollars in opportunities for each. Since January, both stocks have outpaced the S&P 500 , though Nvidia has led the way, up over 180%. Both companies expect big things in 2025. Nvidia is rolling out its successor to its wildly popular Hopper AI chip architecture. At the same time, Broadcom has recently announced significant AI chip deals that should ignite growth for the next several years. But which stock is the better buy for 2025? Both stocks are AI winners Nvidia is arguably the household name in AI among investors. The company's expertise in GPU (graphics processing unit) chips translated well to AI . Nvidia's Hopper accelerator chip architecture became the gold standard for technology companies developing AI, which requires lots of computing power to train on vast amounts of data. The H100 chip remains popular, but Nvidia is rolling out Blackwell chips, the next-generation architecture, to meet the increased demands of smarter AI models. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes Blackwell could be the company's most successful product . Analysts estimate that Nvidia will grow earnings by an average of 38% over the long term, reflecting these high expectations. Broadcom has a long, successful history in semiconductors, specializing in networking and other connectivity applications. However, it's no longer a pure chip business; the company has diversified into enterprise infrastructure software, now representing approximately 41% of total revenue. Broadcom has also become increasingly involved in AI chips. In fiscal year 2024, its AI-related revenue totaled $12.2 billion, a 220% increase from last year. Management recently acknowledged multiple blockbuster deals to develop AI inference chips for prominent AI companies (unnamed but rumored to include OpenAI and Apple ) using its XPU (extreme processing unit) chips. Broadcom believes its total AI opportunity could range from $60 billion to $90 billion by 2027, with management predicting a substantial market share. Analysts believe Broadcom's long-term earnings growth will average almost 22% annually. In all, both companies have seemingly found room to thrive in AI. It could come down to the better value between the two Since both companies seem well-positioned for growth, the better buy could boil down to which offers the best bang for your buck. The PEG ratio is excellent for this. It compares a stock's valuation to the company's anticipated growth. The lower the ratio, the better the deal you're getting. For high-quality stocks, I'm generally comfortable buying stocks at PEG ratios up to 2.0 to 2.5. Here is how each company stacks up: NVDA PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts Based on these numbers, Nvidia's PEG ratio is 1.2 versus Broadcom's 1.8. Remember, this ratio only tells you how much you pay for potential growth. Estimates are only that, meaning they could change. A company's future earnings volatility could also impact investors' willingness to pay. Nvidia is the better value based on numbers. Still, Blackwell could do better or worse than expected, so there is an argument that Nvidia's a riskier stock than Broadcom, a more diverse business. Is there a winner? This stock is the better buy heading into the new year Since both stocks trade at PEG ratios comfortably below what I consider reasonable, long-term investors can buy either (or both) today. That said, there is a winner. I'd probably opt for Broadcom if both stocks traded at similar PEG ratios because it's less dependent on AI. However, Nvidia and its lower PEG ratio seem to appreciate that risk. A 1.2 PEG ratio is a bargain for most stocks, let alone arguably the world's dominant AI company. It also doesn't seem likely that AI is a fad; there's too much money piling into the sector for that. Meanwhile, Blackwell seems poised to continue Nvidia's dominance, and innovation in AI technology could fuel demand for increasingly complex AI chips beyond that. Therefore, the future looks bright for both companies, but Nvidia is the better buy heading into 2025.

KINGSTON, Ont. — Felipe Forteza went from delivering hits to making kicks for the Laval Rouge et Or this season. The linebacker-turned-kicker showed a veteran's poise with his boot on Saturday, kicking a Vanier Cup record six field goals to lift Laval to a 22-17 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks at Richardson Stadium. "The defence did its job and the offence put me in the right position to do it," said Forteza, who was named game MVP. "So I'm stoked." Quarterback Arnaud Desjardins was 34 of 42 for 320 passing yards to help the Rouge et Or win their second Vanier Cup in three years and record 12th overall. It was the first loss of the year for the Golden Hawks, who last won a Canadian university football title in 2005. Laval set the early tone with some big defensive plays and Desjardins was in fine early form, completing his first 22 pass attempts. Forteza split the uprights five times in the first half as Laval took a 17-7 lead into the intermission. Forteza broke the record with his sixth field goal with 2:31 remaining. His only miss was a 32-yard attempt in the final minute. The Golden Hawks ran the ball out of the end zone but didn't threaten again. "We didn't score touchdowns but we moved the ball very well," said Laval coach Glen Constantin. "We flipped the field on these guys." Forteza did some part-time kicking in high school but this was his first season kicking field goals on a regular basis. The Rouge et Or coaching staff liked his powerful leg and helped him with the transition. "It was a bit heartbreaking for me because I like hitting people," Forteza said. "I like being intense and that job is really about being calm and trying to stay healthy." "I like the position," he added. "I like the pressure of it and I like the preparation. I like the hard work and being able to kick that (well) during a game." Laurier quarterback Taylor Elgersma, who won the Hec Crighton Trophy as most outstanding player this season, had a quiet opening quarter before settling in and throwing touchdown passes to Ryan Hughes and Jaxon Stebbings. Elgersma was 23 of 34 for 246 yards but was sacked five times. "Our game plan was just to be us and execute," he said. "Obviously we didn't do that well enough today." Laurier had an 8-0 record in the regular season and outscored its opposition 128-76 over its first three playoff wins. Laval entered at 10-1 overall (7-1, 3-0) and was coming off two close victories over the last two weeks. A near-capacity crowd at the 8,000-seat Queen's University venue had an even split of Laurier and Laval supporters. The weather co-operated after two days of showers in the area. It was cloudy and 8 C at kickoff. Desjardins marched the Rouge et Or deep into Laurier territory on Laval's first possession before settling for an 18-yard field goal by Forteza. Laval used a no-huddle offence in the early going with Desjardins frequently using dump passes to great effect. A 15-yarder from Forteza with 2:54 left in the first quarter made it 6-0. The potent Rouge et Or defence, which led U Sports with just 106 points allowed in the regular season, showed its form as Jordan Lessard forced a fumble from Elgersma that the Golden Hawks recovered. On the next play, Ndeki Garant-Doumambila walloped the Laurier pivot with a ferocious sack. "We know what it takes to get here and what it takes to win these games," he said. Laurier didn't record a first down until late in the first quarter. Laval's special-teams play was also on point. Forteza booted a 65-yard punt and the Rouge et Or coverage swarmed returner Tayshaun Jackson, forcing him down at the Laurier one-yard line. The Golden Hawks would concede a safety to make it 8-0. Forteza added to the lead at 7:01 with a 35-yard field goal. Jackson gave Laurier some life when he broke for a 51-yard run to the Laval five-yard line. Hughes took a shovel pass from Elgersma and sprinted for the corner of the end zone to put Laurier on the scoreboard with 4:57 left in the half. Forteza made a 32-yard field goal with 2:33 remaining. After a Jackson fumble, he added a 42-yard kick 24 seconds later to make it 17-7. The Golden Hawks came out with more jump in the third quarter. Elgersma found Ethan Jordan for a 45-yard reception to highlight a 93-yard drive capped by Stebbings' three-yard TD catch and a Dawson Hodge conversion. Laval took a 19-14 lead when Laurier conceded a safety to open the fourth quarter. Hodge made it a two-point game when he hit a 34-yard field goal with 8:26 left. A pivotal play came with 4:57 remaining when Laval's Loic Brodeur forced a fumble at midfield. He knocked the ball out of Elgersma's hands and Garant-Doumambila recovered. "We focused, we believed in it, and experience," Garant-Doumambila said. "That's what did it for us." The Golden Hawks fell to 2-4 in national championship game appearances while Laval improved to 12-2. The 2025 Vanier Cup will be played in Regina.
