Union Minister Pralhad Joshi shared a post on December 26, 2024, and addressed concerns over alleged unfair pricing practices by cab aggregators. The minister highlighted reports suggesting that iPhone users are being charged higher fares compared to Android users. Ola and Uber are accused of charging different fares for the same ride on iOS and Android devices from the post of Milind Khandekar and Sudhir (@seriousfunnyguy). Pralhad Joshi emphasised a zero-tolerance policy for consumer exploitation. He further stated, “If so, this is blatant dis-regard to Consumer’s right to know. I have directed Consumer Affairs through CCPA to conduct a detailed inquiry into this and submit a report at the earliest. Have asked the department to look into other sectors as well like, food delivery apps, online ticket booking apps etc.” iPhone Users Charged Higher Cab Fare? Apple is warning billions of Mac and MacBook users worldwide to update macOS as a matter of priority. The latest version of macOS Sequoia was released earlier this week as macOS 15.1.1. It comes less than a month after the major 15.1 release that addressed several small bugs and security fixes alongside the first wave of generative AI software in the Apple Intelligence suite. What Issues Face Apple’s Mac And MacBook Pro Laptops? Release notes for macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 list two issues addressed. The first is a fix to the JavaScriptCore (concerning “maliciously crafted web content”), the second fixes an issue with WebKit (concerning “Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to a cross site scripting attack”). These are recorded as CVE-2024-44308 and CVE-2024-44309. Forbes contributor Kate O’Flahery has delved into the technical issues of these attacks . The importance of applying this update has been reinforced thanks to an intervention by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency " "Apple released security updates to address vulnerabilities in multiple Apple products. A cyber threat actor could exploit some of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected system. CISA encourages users and administrators to review the following advisories and apply necessary updates:" Update More Than Your Apple MacBook Pro The macOS update was launched simultaneously with iOS (18.1.1) and iPadOS (18.1.1) updates . OpenAI and military defense technology company Anduril Industries said Wednesday that they would work together to use artificial intelligence for "national security missions." The ChatGPT-maker and Anduril will focus on improving defenses against drone attacks, the companies said in a joint release. The partnership comes nearly a year after OpenAI did away with wording in its policies that banned use of its technology for military or warfare purposes. Founded in 2017, Anduril is a technology company that builds command and control systems and a variety of drones, counting the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom among its customers, according to its website. OpenAI said in October that it was collaborating with the US military's research arm DARPA on cyber defenses for critical networks. "AI is a transformational technology that can be used to strengthen democratic values or to undermine them," OpenAI said in a post at the time. "With the proper safeguards, AI can help protect people, deter adversaries, and even prevent future conflict." The companies said the deal would help the United States maintain an edge over China, a goal that OpenAI chief Sam Altman has spoken of in the past. "Our partnership with Anduril will help ensure OpenAI technology protects US military personnel, and will help the national security community understand and responsibly use this technology to keep our citizens safe and free," Altman said in Wednesday's release. Anduril was co-founded by Palmer Luckey, after Facebook bought his previous company Oculus VR in a $2 billion deal. The new partnership will bring together OpenAI's advanced AI models with Anduril systems and software, according to the companies. "Our partnership with OpenAI will allow us to utilize their world-class expertise in artificial intelligence to address urgent Air Defense capability gaps across the world," Anduril co-founder and chief executive Brian Schimpf said in the release. Schimpf said the collaboration would allow "military and intelligence operators to make faster, more accurate decisions in high-pressure situations." gc/ahaSZA reclaimed the top of the Billboard charts this week and supported it by praising Ice Spice 's latest On The Radar freestyle. NJ securing the future of Sunshine GirlsArabella Chi shows off her baby bump as she strips down to lingerie after revealing pregnancyPatna, Dec 30 (PTI) In an apparent dig at Jan Suraaj Party, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused the fledgling outfit floated by former political strategist Prashant Kishor of acting as ‘B team’ of the Nitish Kumar-led ruling alliance in Bihar. In a video message late on Sunday, hours after police used water cannons to disperse students seeking cancellation of a recent BPSC exam, the former deputy CM, in an apparent reference to the IPAC founder and his party, said the protesters were “misled” into marching towards Gandhi Maidan. “This movement was started by students. The nearly two week-long dharna at Gardani Bagh, where I also had gone recently, had caused the government to tremble. At this moment, came some elements acting as the government’s B team,” alleged Yadav, who is now the leader of the opposition. “The protesters were misled into marching towards Gandhi Maidan, despite warnings from the administration against doing so. And, when the time to face lathi charge and water cannons came, those who had offered to lead the protests, chose to run away,” he said. Notably, though Kishor was not at the spot when police took recourse to use of force, he had addressed the protesters earlier on Sunday along with his supporters. This has led to slapping of an FIR against Kishor and Jan Suraaj Party president Manoj Bharti, in addition to several others. The protesters, who were joined earlier on Sunday by Prashant Kishor at Gandhi Maidan, attempted to march towards the chief minister’s residence in the evening, prompting police to take action, Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh had said. Yadav promised that his party will use its clout to “politically” back the protesters’ demand for cancellation of the Combined Competitive Exams held on December 13, when five lakh candidates had appeared at more than 900 centres across the state. “But you must not get swayed by empty promises. Stick to your guns. January 4 is still a few days away. There is time enough to bring the government to its knees. It is nonsensical to say the BPSC does not come under the government. Its chairman is an appointee of the chief minister, who also happens to hold the Home portfolio, the department which controls the police,” said Yadav. Notably, the BPSC has decided to hold re-examination for more than 10,000 candidates who were assigned Bapu Pariksha Parisar, an examination centre in the city where hundreds had boycotted the tests alleging that question papers had been “leaked”. The BPSC rubbished the allegation and claimed the test was disrupted as part of a “conspiracy” to get the exam cancelled. PTI NAC ACD This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
