The request came as TikTok and the Biden administration filed opposing briefs to the court, in which the company argued the court should strike down a law that could ban the platform by Jan. 19 while the government emphasized its position that the statute is needed to eliminate a national security risk. “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case,” said Trump’s amicus brief, which supported neither party in the case. The filings come ahead of oral arguments scheduled for Jan. 10 on whether the law, which requires TikTok to divest from its China-based parent company or face a ban, unlawfully restricts speech in violation of the First Amendment. Earlier this month, a panel of three federal judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit unanimously upheld the statute , leading TikTok to appeal the case to the Supreme Court. The brief from Trump said he opposes banning TikTok at this junction and “seeks the ability to resolve the issues at hand through political means once he takes office.”
Dec 27 (Reuters) - OpenAI on Friday laid out a plan to transition its for-profit arm into a Delaware public benefit corporation (PBC) to help it raise capital and stay ahead in the costly AI race against companies such as Google. OpenAI's new structure aims to potentially make a more investor-friendly corporation, while maintaining a mission of funding a related charity. Rivals including Anthropic have also adopted the PBC structure to balance societal interests along with shareholder value. While both PBCs and traditional corporations are for-profit entities, PBCs are legally required to pursue one or more public benefits, including social and environmental goals. Delaware amended its general corporation law to allow the formation of PBCs in 2013 and as of December 2023, there were 19 publicly traded PBCs, according to research by Jens Dammann of the University of Texas. In its blog, OpenAI described the current structure as "a for-profit, controlled by the non-profit, with a capped profit share for investors and employees". Under the new organization, the non-profit will own shares in the for-profit, similar to outside investors, and the for-profit will fund the charitable mission of the non-profit. "The PBC will run and control OpenAI's operations and business, while the non-profit will hire a leadership team and staff to pursue charitable initiatives in sectors such as healthcare, education, and science," it said. Unlike PBCs, non-profit corporations do not have shareholders and reinvest profits into their mission rather than distributing them to individuals. PBCs do not receive special tax exemptions or incentives, while non-profits are generally exempted from federal income taxes if they meet certain requirements. LIMITATIONS OF PBCs Becoming a benefit corporation does not guarantee a company will put its stated mission above profit, as the law only legally requires the board to "balance" its mission and profit-making interests, said Ann Lipton, a corporate law professor at Tulane Law School. Delaware law does require the company to report on its progress towards the goals to shareholders, who, in practice, dictate how closely a PBC sticks to its mission, Lipton said. "The only reason to choose benefit form over any other corporate form is the declaration to the public. It doesn't actually have any real enforcement power behind it," Lipton added. Some legal experts also say that publicly traded PBCs are more susceptible to takeovers, as bidders can argue the company lacks profit maximization or that its public benefit goals conflict with the bidder's objectives. SOMERVILLE, N.J. , Nov. 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Specified Technologies Inc. has announced their latest Firestop Clash Management (FCM) and Firestop Locator (FSL) releases. FCM automates the process of locating and assigning firestop solutions to conditions within Autodesk ® Revit ® , enabling firestop novices to find firestop solutions like a firestop expert. In this latest release, STI has further expanded the capabilities of FCM by integrating it with their firestop documentation and compliance tool, Firestop Locator (FSL). FSL enables contractors and facilities' teams to document the status, location, and products used for any and all fire life safety services across a building. In the latest update for FSL, teams can now create custom items to track any service on their project beyond the base six (Penetration, Joint, Extinguisher, Door, Damper, and Barrier). Teams can also modify the base six items to include project specific inspection and maintenance requirements and any other details that they would like to be tracked. With this new integration, decisions made during the design phase of a building using FCM are seamlessly passed into FSL during the construction phase, giving implementation teams a jump start on work to be done. This integration also improves data integrity and eliminates the guesswork in the field of determining what firestop systems and products are to be used where. "We're proud of the latest releases of FCM and FSL and look forward to continuing to support the fire life safety community," says Justin Pine, Sr. Manager of Software & Services. Specified Technologies Inc. promotes life and building safety by developing innovative fire protection systems and accompanying digital tools that help stop the spread of fire, smoke, and hot gases. Financial Services Minister Stephen Jones said he had asked his department and office to examine whether Meta was breaching existing laws, including its criminal and civil obligations. Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones wants to examine if Meta has broken laws. Credit: Dominic Lorrimer “Every hour that a scam ad is live on a Meta platform causes harm,” Jones said. “It’s not good enough that they don’t have a system which enables blatantly criminal material to be removed.” Jones’ comments came after this masthead published an investigation showing Meta was serving up ads promoting notorious sham investment platforms subject to numerous official warnings and easily identified with a simple search. Loading Despite the tech company’s insistence that it had since removed many offending ads and accounts, new ads appeared in recent days using the same techniques and keywords as before. Among the ads published this week were examples misusing the images of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, singer Guy Sebastian, and those linked to a bogus Salvation Army loan offer. There were also numerous ads promoting Quantum AI, which the consumer watchdog has labelled the “most prolific online investment trading platform scam” affecting Australians. Meta did not respond to questions about the ongoing scam ads by deadline. An image of the PM in a recent fake Salvation Army ad. The scammers behind these types of ads are often seeking to steal people’s personal information. Credit: Meta Ad Library Earlier, the company shared news it had recently taken down 2 million accounts linked to scam centres in South-East Asia and the Middle East. It also confirmed that it had been sharing warnings with Australian Facebook users since October, telling them to “beware of scams using celebrity images to deceive you”. Sergeant Alexander Kazagrandi, with the Australian Federal Police’s Joint Policing Cybercrime Co-ordination Centre, said scam advertising was prolific in Australia and was being used “more and more extensively by organised criminal groups”. He warned that these ads were being used not just to recruit victims but to traffic people into South-East Asian scam call centres by offering them an easy way to make money. “That is essentially the same hook that is being used for Australian victims for investment scam purposes,” Kazagrandi said. A scam ad featuring singer Guy Sebastian. When this screenshot was taken, the ad had been live for 13 hours. Credit: Meta Ad Library Last week, new federal scam laws that are set to force social media platforms, banks and telcos to pay compensation to scam victims were debated in parliament. Some MPs and consumer groups are concerned the bill does not go far enough, arguing it will remain far too difficult for victims to be reimbursed. Kazagrandi said more than 90,000 reports about cybercrime and scams were made to ReportCyber last year, a high proportion of which were investment scams. “On average, an investment scam in Australia will net about $81,000 to the criminal,” he said. Kazagrandi said Australians could expect to hear more about Australian police conducting raids and targeting overseas scam operations in the future, as its ongoing Operation Firestorm investigated cybercriminals based in South-East Asia and Eastern Europe. In July this year, Melbourne woman Anna was feeling stressed and vulnerable when she saw an ad on Facebook falsely claiming to feature Albanese talking about a new investment platform purportedly backed by his government. All Anna had to do – at a time when her husband had left her for another woman, and she was struggling to pay off the mortgage alone as she worked long days as an office administrator – was put in $250. “I just click ... [and] I fill out the application because I was thinking, ‘$250 I can afford’,” said Anna, 61, using a pseudonym. Loading The advertisement was a scam, using a manipulated video of Albanese without his permission, and it connected Anna to ruthless scammers who fleeced her of $30,000 over the coming months, pushing her even further into debt. Anna said the scammers, who claimed to be from England and worked for a company called I2 Trading, tricked her into believing she was making profits on her trading, enough to pay off her mortgage. It wasn’t until she couldn’t withdraw her profits that she realised it was a con. She hadn’t seen the scam warnings previously. “I work full-time, I get home, I don’t watch the news,” she said. The mother of two, who is being assisted by the Consumer Action Law Centre, said the scammer also advised her to approach a digital lender for a loan of $30,000, coaching her to tell them the money was for home renovations. Anna says she is now paying an interest rate of 9.69 per cent on the borrowed money. It means the scam is going to cost her more than $40,000 over seven years. She said she was kept awake with the thought of what she might have done with the money she pays into the loan each month – perhaps a holiday, something for her house, or to fund a more stable life. “I’m struggling,” she said. Loading Monash University Professor Mark Andrejevic, who has researched the types of Facebook ads reaching Australians, said it was pretty clear that Meta was not policing its ads carefully. “It’s easy to find these ads,” he said. “There are a number of indicators, including keywords, the characteristics of the pages that are serving them, and the use of multiple administrators across several countries. When taken together, an automated system should be able to flag this type of advertising easily.” Andrejevic said regulatory change was needed or scams would be a persistent part of the online ad environment. “It doesn’t look like Facebook is making much off of each individual ad buy, but if you imagine how many hundreds of thousands of these are appearing globally, the revenues could be more than just a blip.” Expert tips on how to save, invest and make the most of your money, delivered to your inbox every Sunday. Mufti Mohammad Kased, a student at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), sacrificed his life during the Liberation War, yet he has not been officially recognised as a martyred freedom fighter. Kased, who was the first martyr from Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh, died in combat in the Paithol area on June 15, 1971. Inspired by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's speech on March 7, Kased decided to join the Liberation War, arriving in Mymensingh the following day. After returning to his ancestral home in Niguari, Gafargaon, he took refuge at Sarkarbari in Kandipara to train fellow freedom fighters in their struggle against the occupying Pakistani Army. Kased and his comrades later moved to the house of Dr Kali Babu in the Paithol area on June 14, 1971. On June 15, local collaborators informed the Pakistani Army of their presence, leading to a surprise attack on Paithol village. The Pakistani forces were taking away the then-chairman of the Paithol Union Parishad, Abdus Samad, when Kased and his fellow fighters, divided into three groups, launched an attack to rescue him. During the confrontation, Kased was shot in the chest and leg, dying instantly. His co-fighters and local residents performed his last rites, and he was buried in a graveyard in Joydarkhali, Gafargaon. Abul Kashem, a fellow fighter, recalled the tragic moment of Kased's death, describing how Kased was shot in the leg but continued to fight until he was struck by a fatal bullet. Three days after his burial, the Pakistani Army raided the area again, identified Kased's grave, and exhumed his body, transporting it by helicopter to Mymensingh. When the Pakistani forces learned that Kased was the son of Mohammad Wahid, the secretary of Mymensingh Municipality, they brought Wahid in to identify the body. However, he was unable to recognise Kased's decomposed remains. The body was ultimately handed over to the Mymensingh municipal authorities and reburied at Kalibari Graveyard in the city. The Pakistani Army also destroyed Kased's ancestral home in Niguari, he said. His co-fighter Abdul Hamid said Kased's bravery and dedication had not been properly honoured, despite various initiatives over the years. Kased's name is inscribed on memorial walls at BUET and Faujdarhat Cadet College. A souvenir published in 1972 during the inaugural ceremony of BUET's Titumir Hall recognised Kased alongside six other students who were martyred, with Chief of Army Staff MAG Osmani as the chief guest, he said. Family sources reveal that Kased was a provincial chess champion in East Pakistan, a devoted student of chess master Dr Qazi Motahar Hossain, and the joint-secretary of the East Pakistan Chess Council. He also had a passion for music and was skilled with the violin. Following the Liberation War, BUET held regular chess competitions in Kased's memory, and since 1983, a chess competition organised by "Shaheed Mufti Smiriti Daba Parishad" has been held in Mymensingh. In 2016, a road in Mymensingh city was named after him. In January 2021, local residents, including fellow freedom fighters, formed a human chain in Gafargaon and submitted a memorandum to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), Md Tajul Islam, requesting that Kased be recognised as a freedom fighter. The UNO forwarded the application to the Jatiyo Muktijuddha Council (JAMUCA) through the district commissioner in the same year, but it has yet to be gazetted, according to family sources. He was 100 years old . The Carter Center said the 39th president died Sunday afternoon, more than a year after entering hospice care , at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, who died in November 2023, lived most of their lives. The center said he died peacefully, surrounded by his family. As reaction poured in from around the world, President Joe Biden mourned Carter’s death, saying the world lost an “extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian” and he lost a dear friend. Biden cited Carter’s compassion and moral clarity, his work to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless and advocacy for the disadvantaged as an example for others. “To all of the young people in this nation and for anyone in search of what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning – the good life – study Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith, and humility,” Biden said in a statement. “He showed that we are a great nation because we are a good people – decent and honorable, courageous and compassionate, humble and strong.” Biden said he is ordering a state funeral for Carter in Washington. A moderate Democrat, Carter ran for president in 1976 as a little-known Georgia governor with a broad grin, effusive Baptist faith and technocratic plans for efficient government. His promise to never deceive the American people resonated after Richard Nixon’s disgrace and U.S. defeat in southeast Asia. “If I ever lie to you, if I ever make a misleading statement, don’t vote for me. I would not deserve to be your president,” Carter said. Carter’s victory over Republican Gerald Ford, whose fortunes fell after pardoning Nixon, came amid Cold War pressures, turbulent oil markets and social upheaval over race, women’s rights and America’s role in the world. His achievements included brokering Mideast peace by keeping Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin at Camp David for 13 days in 1978. But his coalition splintered under double-digit inflation and the 444-day hostage crisis in Iran. His negotiations ultimately brought all the hostages home alive, but in a final insult, Iran didn’t release them until the inauguration of Ronald Reagan, who had trounced him in the 1980 election. Humbled and back home in Georgia, Carter said his faith demanded that he keep doing whatever he could, for as long as he could, to try to make a difference. He and Rosalynn co-founded The Carter Center in 1982 and spent the next 40 years traveling the world as peacemakers, human rights advocates and champions of democracy and public health. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, Carter helped ease nuclear tensions in North and South Korea, avert a U.S. invasion of Haiti and negotiate cease-fires in Bosnia and Sudan. By 2022, the center had monitored at least 113 elections around the world. Carter was determined to eradicate guinea worm infections as one of many health initiatives. Swinging hammers into their 90s, the Carters built homes with Habitat for Humanity. The common observation that he was better as an ex-president rankled Carter. His allies were pleased that he lived long enough to see biographers and historians revisit his presidency and declare it more impactful than many understood at the time. Propelled in 1976 by voters in Iowa and then across the South, Carter ran a no-frills campaign. Americans were captivated by the earnest engineer, and while an election-year Playboy interview drew snickers when he said he “had looked on many women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times,” voters tired of political cynicism found it endearing. The first family set an informal tone in the White House, carrying their own luggage, trying to silence the Marine Band’s traditional “Hail to the Chief" and enrolling daughter, Amy, in public schools. Carter was lampooned for wearing a cardigan and urging Americans to turn down their thermostats. But Carter set the stage for an economic revival and sharply reduced America's dependence on foreign oil by deregulating the energy industry along with airlines, trains and trucking. He established the departments of Energy and Education, appointed record numbers of women and nonwhites to federal posts, preserved millions of acres of Alaskan wilderness and pardoned most Vietnam draft evaders. Emphasizing human rights , he ended most support for military dictators and took on bribery by multinational corporations by signing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He persuaded the Senate to ratify the Panama Canal treaties and normalized relations with China, an outgrowth of Nixon’s outreach to Beijing. But crippling turns in foreign affairs took their toll. When OPEC hiked crude prices, making drivers line up for gasoline as inflation spiked to 11%, Carter tried to encourage Americans to overcome “a crisis of confidence.” Many voters lost confidence in Carter instead after the infamous address that media dubbed his “malaise" speech, even though he never used that word. After Carter reluctantly agreed to admit the exiled Shah of Iran to the U.S. for medical treatment, the American Embassy in Tehran was overrun in 1979. Negotiations to quickly free the hostages broke down, and then eight Americans died when a top-secret military rescue attempt failed. Carter also had to reverse course on the SALT II nuclear arms treaty after the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979. Though historians would later credit Carter's diplomatic efforts for hastening the end of the Cold war, Republicans labeled his soft power weak. Reagan’s “make America great again” appeals resonated, and he beat Carter in all but six states. Born Oct. 1, 1924, James Earl Carter Jr. married fellow Plains native Rosalynn Smith in 1946, the year he graduated from the Naval Academy. He brought his young family back to Plains after his father died, abandoning his Navy career, and they soon turned their ambitions to politics . Carter reached the state Senate in 1962. After rural white and Black voters elected him governor in 1970, he drew national attention by declaring that “the time for racial discrimination is over.” Carter published more than 30 books and remained influential as his center turned its democracy advocacy onto U.S. politics, monitoring an audit of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results. After a 2015 cancer diagnosis, Carter said he felt “perfectly at ease with whatever comes.” “I’ve had a wonderful life,” he said. “I’ve had thousands of friends, I’ve had an exciting, adventurous and gratifying existence.” Sanz is a former Associated Press reporter.

Nayanthara and Dhanush’s legal dispute is gaining attraction like wildfire. The ‘Raanjhanna’ actor recently took Nayanthara to the Madras High Court over alleged copyright infringement. Amid the messy fallout, ‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara took to social media to share a cryptic note about karma. Taking to her Instagram stories, the ‘Jawan’ actress shared a message about how karma always comes back to haunt one. “Karma Says!!! When you destroy someone’s life with lies, take it as a loan, it will come back to you with interest.” The post comes after Nayanthara’s legal team refuted the grounds of Dhanush’s copyright infringement allegations. For the unversed, Dhanush has slapped Nayanthara with a 10 crores lawsuit for using a three-second behind-the-scenes shot from the 2015 film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in her Netflix documentary, ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.’ Advertisement A post shared by N A Y A N T H A R A (@nayanthara) The clip features in the Netflix documentary, ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’. The film chronicles the life and rise to fame of the ‘Jawan’ star. Additionally, a significant portion of the film presents her love story and marriage with Vignesh Sivan. The duo started their relationship during the filming of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,’ hence, the clip is important to the couple. On November 29, Rahul Dhawan, Nayanthara’s attorney furnished a statement to Hindustan Times over the lawsuit. He said, “Our response is that there is no infringement or violation because what has been utilised by us in the docu-series is not part of behind-the-scenes (from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan). The same is part of a personal library; therefore, this is not infringement.” Dhawan has iterated the claim made by Nayanthara, that the footage in question was filmed using her personal device. While the Raspberry Pi can work as a basic desktop alternative, you're probably using it for more advanced projects — most of which don't need a display, keyboard, or mouse. Perhaps it's integrated into a mobile robot, running your autonomous plant-watering assistant in the backyard, or maybe even set up on the street capturing a time-lapse video of the neighborhood activity. In such cases, it can be a pain to take the Pi out of the system every time you need to update it or tweak the code. Thankfully, there are ways to manage the Raspberry Pi remotely without disassembling your project. This is where SSH comes in. SSH stands for Secure Shell. Compared to VNC which essentially screen shares the Pi's desktop GUI to a different computer, SSH only provides you access to the Pi's command line. This can be handy if your Pi doesn't have a GUI to begin with or if you need to quickly troubleshoot, edit code, or control the system remotely. We'll walk you through the step-by-step process of how to SSH into your Raspberry Pi. SSH is disabled on the Raspberry Pi by default. You can activate the service before you flash the Raspberry Pi OS to a microSD card, though. Simply edit the OS customization settings in the Raspberry Pi Imager and check "Enable SSH" in the Services tab. However, if you're working with an already configured board complete with the OS, follow these steps to enable SSH from the command line instead: While you're in the command line, look for the Pi's username — the green text before the @ symbol. You'll use this to connect to Raspberry Pi via SSH later. Before you can SSH into a Raspberry Pi, you first need to connect it to your home network, so your other computer can see it. If you have the desktop version of the Raspberry Pi OS, simply hit the network icon in the upper right corner and connect your board to your home Wi-Fi just like how you would on any other computer. If you're running the Lite OS version or prefer to use the Terminal, here's how to connect your Pi to Wi-Fi instead: If, however, you're yet to install the Raspberry Pi OS on a microSD card , you can configure it to automatically connect to your preferred network. On the Raspberry Pi Imager, edit the OS customization settings, specifically the "Configure wireless LAN" section under the General tab and add your network name and password. Aside from the username, you'll also need the Raspberry Pi's IP address to connect to it. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to find this. You can use an IP scanning tool like Angry IP Scanner on your Windows, macOS, or Linux computer to see all the IP addresses of the devices on your network. Or, you can go into the Raspberry Pi Terminal/command line and type hostname -I (as in capital letter i) to get the current IP address. However, if your router or the Pi board reboots, your Pi will likely have a new IP address. This means you'll need to find it again before you can SSH into the system. Instead of going through this hassle, just assign a static IP address to the Raspberry Pi . This way, the Pi will have the same IP address permanently (or at least until you decide to go back to dynamic addresses). Here's a quick guide on setting a static IP address: Once done, your Raspberry Pi should be ready for remote access. Just make sure to write down the IP address you set here as it will be your IP address moving forward. The easiest way to connect to your Raspberry Pi via SSH is by using the Command Prompt on Windows or the Terminal app on macOS and Linux. All of these come preinstalled with the OS, so you won't have to go looking for a third-party terminal emulator. Here's how to use the Command Prompt or Terminal: You should now see your Raspberry Pi's command line, with the username@hostname (e.g., pi@raspberrypi) in the usual green text. From here, you can input your commands just like you would directly on the Raspberry Pi. When you're ready to end the SSH session, all you need to do is type exit to disconnect from the Pi.Unlike scores of people who for the blockbuster drugs Ozempic and Wegovy to lose weight in recent years, Danielle Griffin had no trouble getting them. The 38-year-old information technology worker from New Mexico had a prescription. Her pharmacy had the drugs in stock. And her covered all but $25 to $50 of the monthly cost. For Griffin, the hardest part of using the new drugs wasn’t access. It was finding out that the didn’t really work for her. “I have been on Wegovy for a year and a half and have only lost 13 pounds,” said Griffin, who watches her diet, drinks plenty of water and exercises regularly. “I’ve done everything right with no success. It’s discouraging.” In clinical trials, most participants taking Wegovy or Mounjaro to treat obesity lost an average of 15% to 22% of their body weight — up to 50 pounds or more in many cases. But roughly 10% to 15% of patients in those trials were “nonresponders” who lost less than 5% of their body weight. Now that millions of people have used the drugs, several obesity experts told The Associated Press that perhaps 20% of patients — as many as 1 in 5 — may not respond well to the medications. It’s a little-known consequence of the obesity drug boom, according to doctors who caution eager patients not to expect one-size-fits-all results. “It’s all about explaining that different people have different responses,” said Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, an obesity expert at Massachusetts General Hospital The drugs are known as GLP-1 receptor agonists because they mimic a hormone in the body known as glucagon-like peptide 1. Genetics, hormones and variability in how the brain regulates energy can all influence weight — and a person’s response to the drugs, Stanford said. Medical conditions such as sleep apnea can prevent weight loss, as can certain common medications, such as antidepressants, steroids and contraceptives. “This is a disease that stems from the brain,” said Stanford. “The dysfunction may not be the same” from patient to patient. Despite such cautions, patients are often upset when they start getting the weekly injections but the numbers on the scale barely budge. “It can be devastating,” said Dr. Katherine Saunders, an obesity expert at Weill Cornell Medicine and co-founder of the obesity treatment company FlyteHealth. “With such high expectations, there’s so much room for disappointment.” That was the case for Griffin, who has battled obesity since childhood and hoped to shed 70 pounds using Wegovy. The drug helped reduce her appetite and lowered her risk of diabetes, but she saw little change in weight. “It’s an emotional roller coaster,” she said. “You want it to work like it does for everybody else.” The medications are along with eating behavior and lifestyle changes. It’s usually clear within weeks whether someone will respond to the drugs, said Dr. Jody Dushay, an endocrine specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Weight loss typically begins right away and continues as the dosage increases. For some patients, that just doesn’t happen. For others, side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea force them to halt the medications, Dushay said. In such situations, patients who were counting on the new drugs to pare pounds may think they’re out of options. “I tell them: It’s not game over,” Dushay said. Trying a different version of the new class of drugs may help. Griffin, who didn’t respond well to Wegovy, has started using Zepbound, which targets an additional hormone pathway in the body. After three months of using the drug, she has lost 7 pounds. “I’m hoping it’s slow and steady,” she said. Other people respond well to older drugs, the experts said. Changing diet, exercise, sleep and stress habits can also have profound effects. Figuring out what works typically requires a doctor trained to treat obesity, Saunders noted. “Obesity is such a complex disease that really needs to be treated very comprehensively,” she said. “If what we’re prescribing doesn’t work, we always have a backup plan.” ___ The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science and Educational Media Group. Kumar undertakes these yatras to have a firsthand experience of the implementation of schemes and their impact on the society at large. Besides, he also gets ideas for new government schemes. "Pragati Yatra is all about noticing the change in Bihar whether it is in attracting investment, infrastructure, agriculture, education or healthcare. It also gives an opportunity to the CM to directly interact with the people, especially women and get their feedback on the government's work. Kumar is known for women empowerment in Bihar," Ashok Choudhary, state minister and JDU general secretary told ET. During the yatra, Kumar will have a special session of interactions with women, a vote bank which he has built over the years. Amidst the announcement of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to give ₹2,500 for women if the party comes to power, there is a considerable pressure on the NDA government to come up with a similar scheme.
