A letter from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to the secretary of the KP government’s administration department, dated November 29 and seen by Dawn.com , said: “CM KP has directed that Miss Mashal Azam, special assistant to CM KP, may immediately be de-notified.” It ordered that necessary action regarding the matter be taken at the earliest under intimation to the secretariat. Instead, they’re tied to the billionaire’s new Montessori school outside Bastrop, Texas, called Ad Astra, according to documents filed with state authorities and obtained via a Texas Public Information Act request. The world’s richest person oversees an overlapping empire of six companies — or seven, if you include his political action committee. Alongside rockets, electric cars, brain implants, social media and the next Trump administration, he is increasingly focused on education, spanning preschool to college. One part of his endeavor was revealed last year, when Bloomberg News reported that his foundation had set aside roughly $100 million to create a technology-focused primary and secondary school in Austin, with eventual plans for a university. An additional $137 million in cash and stock was allotted last year, according to the most recent tax filing for the Musk Foundation. Ad Astra is closer to fruition. The state documents show Texas authorities issued an initial permit last month, clearing the way for the center to operate with as many as 21 pupils. Ad Astra’s website says it’s “currently open to all children ages 3 to 9.” The school’s account on X includes job postings for an assistant teacher for preschool and kindergarten and an assistant teacher for students ages 6 to 9. To run the school, Ad Astra is partnering with a company that has experience with billionaires: Xplor Education, which developed Hala Kahiki Montessori school in Lanai, Hawaii, the island 98% owned by Oracle Corp. founder Larry Ellison. Ad Astra sits on a highway outside Bastrop, a bedroom community about 30 miles from Austin and part of a region that’s home to several of Musk’s businesses. On a visit during a recent weekday morning, there was a single Toyota Prius in the parking lot and no one answered the door at the white building with a gray metal roof. The school’s main entrance was blocked by a gate, and there was no sign of any children on the grounds. But what information there is about Ad Astra makes it sound like a fairly typical, if high-end, Montessori preschool. The proposed schedule includes “thematic, STEM-based activities and projects” as well as outdoor play and nap time. A sample snack calendar features carrots and hummus. While Birchall’s and Balajadia’s names appear in the application, it isn’t clear that they’ll have substantive roles at the school once it’s operational. Musk, Birchall and Balajadia didn’t respond to emailed questions. A phone call and email to the school went unanswered. Access to high quality, affordable childcare is a huge issue for working parents across the country, and tends to be an especially vexing problem in rural areas like Bastrop. Many families live in “childcare deserts” where there is either not a facility or there isn’t an available slot. Opening Ad Astra gives Musk a chance to showcase his vision for education, and his support for the hands-on learning and problem solving that are a hallmark of his industrial companies. His public comments about learning frequently overlap with cultural concerns popular among conservatives and the Make America Great Again crowd, often focusing on what he sees as young minds being indoctrinated by teachers spewing left-wing propaganda. He has railed against diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and in August posted that “a lot of schools are teaching white boys to hate themselves.” Musk’s educational interests dovetail with his new role as Trump’s “first buddy.” The billionaire has pitched a role for himself that he — and now the incoming Trump administration — call “DOGE,” or the Department of Government Efficiency. Though it’s not an actual department, DOGE now posts on X, the social media platform that Musk owns. “The Department of Education spent over $1 billion promoting DEI in America’s schools,” the account posted Dec. 12. Back in Texas, Bastrop is quickly becoming a key Musk point of interest. The Boring Co., his tunneling venture, is based in an unincorporated area there. Across the road, SpaceX produces Starlink satellites at a 500,000-square-foot (46,000-square-meter) facility. Nearby, X is constructing a building for trust and safety workers. Musk employees, as well as the general public, can grab snacks at the Boring Bodega, a convenience store housed within Musk’s Hyperloop Plaza, which also contains a bar, candy shop and hair salon. Ad Astra is just a five-minute drive away. It seems to have been designed with the children of Musk’s employees — if not Musk’s own offspring — in mind. Musk has fathered at least 12 children, six of them in the last five years. “Ad Astra’s mission is to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in the next generation of problem solvers and builders,” reads the school’s website. A job posting on the website of the Montessori Institute of North Texas says “While their parents support the breakthroughs that expand the realm of human possibility, their children will grow into the next generation of innovators in a way that only authentic Montessori can provide.” The school has hired an executive director, according to documents Bloomberg obtained from Texas Health and Human Services. Ad Astra is located on 40 acres of land, according to the documents, which said a 4,000-square-foot house would be remodeled for the preschool. It isn’t uncommon for entrepreneurs to take an interest in education, according to Bill Gormley, a professor emeritus at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University who studies early childhood education. Charles Butt, the chairman of the Texas-based H-E-B grocery chain, has made public education a focus of his philanthropy. Along with other business and community leaders, Butt founded “Raise Your Hand Texas,” which advocates on school funding, teacher workforce and retention issues and fully funding pre-kindergarten. “Musk is not the only entrepreneur to recognize the value of preschool for Texas workers,” Gormley said. “A lot of politicians and business people get enthusiastic about education in general — and preschool in particular — because they salivate at the prospect of a better workforce.” Musk spent much of October actively campaigning for Trump’s presidential effort, becoming the most prolific donor of the election cycle. He poured at least $274 million into political groups in 2024, including $238 million to America PAC, the political action committee he founded. While the vast majority of money raised by America PAC came from Musk himself, it also had support from other donors. Betsy DeVos, who served as education secretary in Trump’s first term, donated $250,000, federal filings show. The Department of Education is already in the new administration’s cross hairs. Trump campaigned on the idea of disbanding the department and dismantling diversity initiatives, and he has also taken aim at transgender rights. “Rather than indoctrinating young people with inappropriate racial, sexual, and political material, which is what we’re doing now, our schools must be totally refocused to prepare our children to succeed in the world of work,” Trump wrote in Agenda 47, his campaign platform. Musk has three children with the musician Grimes and three with Shivon Zilis, who in the past was actively involved at Neuralink, his brain machine interface company. All are under the age of five. Musk took X, his son with Grimes, with him on a recent trip to Capitol Hill. After his visit, he shared a graphic that showed the growth of administrators in America’s public schools since 2000. Musk is a fan of hands-on education. During a Tesla earnings call in 2018, he talked about the need for more electricians as the electric-car maker scaled up the energy side of its business. And if you’re looking for an absolutely sure return, your best option is to pay off high-interest debt. You’re guaranteed to earn (or save) whatever interest rate you’re paying on the debt. You can’t lose there. Finally, don’t overlook the security of any exchange or broker you’re using. You may own the assets legally, but someone still has to secure them, and their security needs to be tight. The realities are both countries are really dear to me for lots of reasons, and I’m really proud to represent both of them.” The Lionesses did not register a shot on target in the first half but grew into the game in the second. US captain Lindsey Horan had the ball in the net after the break but the flag was up, while Hayes’ side had a penalty award for a handball reversed after a VAR check determined substitute Yazmeen Ryan’s shot hit Alex Greenwood’s chest. Hayes, who left Chelsea after 12 trophy-packed years this summer, said: “I’ve been privileged to coach a lot of top-level games, including here, so there’s a familiarity to being here for me. “It’s not new to me, and because of that there was a whole sense of I’m coming back to a place I know. I have a really healthy perspective, and I want to have a really healthy perspective on my profession. “I give everything I possibly can for a team that I really, really enjoy coaching, and I thrive, not just under pressure, but I like these opportunities, I like being in these situations. They bring out the best in me. “You’ve got two top teams now, Sarina is an amazing coach, I thought it was a good tactical match-up, and I just enjoy coaching a high-level football match, to be honest with you. I don’t think too much about it.” Hayes had travelled to London without her entire Olympic gold medal-winning “Triple Espresso” forward line of Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith, all nursing niggling injuries. Before the match, the 48-year-old was spotted chatting with Wiegman and her US men’s counterpart, fellow ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino , who was also in attendance. England were also missing a number of key attackers for the friendly including Lauren Hemp, Lauren James and Ella Toone, all ruled out with injury. Wiegman brushed aside suggestions from some pundits that her side were content to settle for a draw. She said: “I think we were really defending as a team, very strong. We got momentum in the second half, we did better, and of course both teams went for the win. “So many things happened in this game, also in front of the goal, so I don’t think it was boring. “We wanted to go for the win, but it was such a high-intensity game, you have to deal with a very good opponent, so you can’t just say, ‘Now we’re going to go and score that goal’. “We tried, of course, to do that. We didn’t slow down to keep it 0-0. I think that was just how the game went.”

Warning: Distressing The mother of a young girl brutally killed by her father and stepmother has blasted the pair for killing her 10-year-old daughter Sara Sharif, stating: “It is not human to do this to your own child.” Olga Domin, 38, lost custody of Sara in 2019 , despite accusing her ex-husband Urfan Sharif of abuse following their separation four years earlier. Sara then moved in with him and his new wife, Beinash Batool, where she suffered a campaign of abuse that ultimately led to her death last year, The Sun reports. The pair have just been found guilty of Sara’s murder after her body was found by police in her bunk bed on August 10, 2023. A post mortem uncovered she had 25 fractures and 71 external injuries , including six human bite marks, and burns from a domestic iron. Taxi driver Sharif, 43, beat Sara with a cricket bat and metal pole, sometimes tying her hands and legs together with tape. She was made to wear makeshift hoods during attacks and Sharif urged another child to hit her like a punchbag as if it was a game in what was described in court as a “daily living hell” for the 10-year-old. Sara Sharif, 10, was murdered by her father and stepmother in August last year. Meanwhile, Sara’s uncle 29-year-old Faisal Malik – who lived with them in an apartment then a cramped three-bedroom house in Woking, Surrey – failed to raise the alarm whenever Sara was attacked. Sharif hit Sara twice on the abdomen when she lay dying because he thought she was pretending to be ill. He refused to call for medical help and investigators suspect the three jet-washed Sara’s body before fleeing to Pakistan, leaving her in the bottom bunk, The Sun added. She had started wearing a hijab to school to conceal injuries to her face and head. A jury at London’s Old Bailey – the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales – found Sharif and Batool guilty of murder on Thursday following an eight-week trial. He was having supervised contact at a Government-run children’s centre in Reading before a family court hearing in 2019 which ruled Sara should live with Sharif. Friends say Sharif took accusations made against him and threw them back at Ms Domin — and used the same tactic in his trial by blaming Batool for Sara’s murder, before admitting he too beat her up. Ms Domin was allowed contact with Sara, supervised by Batool, but she said the couple blocked this a few years before Sara’s death. The youngster has been laid to rest in Poland in a grave bearing her mum’s surname and adorned with flowers. Ms Domin visits daily. Sara’s mum had fled her marriage to Sharif over claims of abuse. We miss Sara very much. Love you Princess.” Sharif also dished out horrific abuse to Ms Domin, who said he did it all with “really evil eyes”. She said: “He choked me with a belt, he tried to set me on fire, he beat me with his fists. He was putting the oil on my body. His friend stopped him. He already had the lighter in his hand.” Sara’s body was left in her bed while Sharif, Batool fled to Pakistan. She added: “He told me that he dressed me and no one would help me if I left him because I don’t know the language and I have never worked here. “He said he didn’t like my friend. I wasn’t allowed to meet her. I went to pick up something from the shop and he wouldn’t let me out. I was working nights cleaning the pubs. “They kicked him out of McDonald’s (where he was a shift manager) because he was stealing money. He didn’t have a job. He took all the money from me. “I took £100 (about $AU200) to buy clothes for my kids and he hit me because I took the money. “He would be cunning and would take my phone and he locked me out around three times. “When he did this he had evil eyes, really evil eyes. I was alone in a foreign country, without a language, without a family, until I finally realised that this was not the life I had and left.” Ms Domin was taken to a domestic violence refuge in 2015 and their divorce was completed in 2017. During the trial, Sharif spent six days lying to Old Bailey jurors, claiming Batool was an “evil psycho” and the “true villain of the piece”. On his seventh day in the witness box, Sharif dramatically confessed to beating Sara with a cricket bat and pole and ultimately killing her. But the self-confessed coward could never bring himself to admit he had murdered Sara, The Sun reported. Sara’s uncle Faisal Malik was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child. I legally punished her and she died.” Batool and Malik both refused to give evidence. Det Chief Insp Craig Emmerson, of Surrey Police, said the trio only sought to preserve their own interests and showed no remorse. Mr Emerson added: “Sara was a bright and lively little girl who loved singing and dancing. “Sara’s spirit and bravery and resilience in the face of the suffering that she endured has shone through from the vast inquiries that have been undertaken in this case. “Sara’s young life was brought to an end as a result of the brutal abuse and unspeakable violence inflicted on her by Sharif and Batool, which Malik did nothing to prevent.” Meanwhile a friend of Ms Domin asked: “How could social services ever give Sara to that man? “He’s the worst of the worst. And he recalls how little attention he paid to it at the time. “Remember this moment,” Mike Conley Jr. once told Mitchell when the two were teammates on the Utah Jazz. “These kind of teams don’t come around very often. This doesn’t normally happen in the NBA . So, appreciate it.” Conley was speaking to Mitchell in a team meeting during the 2020-21 season, when the Jazz were a legitimate title contender. They went on to post the best regular-season record in the league that season. But, as Conley’s words implied, nothing is promised: That Jazz team would get snakebit by injuries and lose in the second round to the LA Clippers . As he returned to Utah on Monday night with his current team, the Cleveland Cavaliers , Mitchell is no longer the youngster in the locker room. And Cleveland, like that 2021 Utah team, has the best record in the NBA at 26-4. This time, Conley’s words hit deeper for the now-28-year-old. “What I’ve learned is that this isn’t forever. We are not invincible. You have to appreciate this, because this doesn’t come around too often,” Mitchell told over the weekend. “When Mike was saying that, it wasn’t that I didn’t appreciate it then, but when you’re as young as I was then, you don’t know what you don’t know. “I find myself telling the guys in this locker room the same stuff that Mike and Joe (Ingles) and Ricky (Rubio) used to tell me. What we have this season? This isn’t always the NBA. Not every locker room is like this.” Over his career, Mitchell has been the happy-go-lucky rookie that everyone seems to love. He’s been a champion for social justice with words that weren’t always received warmly. He’s been accused of shooting the ball too much and sat at the center of an oft-discussed dispute with ex-Jazz teammate Rudy Gobert . He’s been the target of near-constant trade rumors and the centerpiece of a blockbuster trade. He’s won a dunk contest, made the All-Star team five times and an All-NBA team. And most importantly for him and the Cavaliers, Mitchell is playing some of the best basketball of his career. “Ideally, if I can paint a picture, I would win a championship at some point over the next five years,” he said. “It’s hard to win championships. It’s hard to win in this league. Despite public opinion, I love being in Cleveland and I want to win a title with this group.” Getting to this point hasn’t been easy for Mitchell, which is why this time he wants to actually enjoy the moment. He was the best player on that Jazz team in 2021, but he was far from the most experienced guy on the roster. Truth be told, he was far from the most mature player on that team. In most cases, humans mature naturally over four years simply through life experience. So, leading an upstart Cleveland team in 2024 is much different than it was for Mitchell in 2021. “I think the way he communicates is something that’s been very welcomed,” first-year Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson said. “He has an attention to detail and the way he reaches out and is constantly texting and communicating has been terrific. He’s embraced a leadership role here.” As the Cavaliers took consecutive games against the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers over the weekend, Mitchell’s teammates ribbed him in the locker room for his decrease in dunking this season. When Mitchell entered the league out of Louisville, he played above the rim. On Friday night, he settled for a basic two-handed dunk on a breakaway. When told by reporters and his teammates that that dunk would have been a windmill a few years ago, Mitchell laughed and pointed out that he’s dunked in three consecutive games. It was fun banter, but it serves as a metaphor for Mitchell, and the circle of basketball life in general. Mitchell isn’t the same athlete at 28 that he was at 22. Not many are. It’s one of the many reasons Mitchell knows that he and the Cavaliers have to take advantage of the opportunity that’s presenting itself. “You see the playoff losses, and it’s like, ‘OK, there is a window,” he said. Mitchell sees real similarities between this Cleveland team and that Jazz squad that raced to the top of the league. Naysayers claim Mitchell and Darius Garland are too small a backcourt to win a title, much as they did when Mitchell played alongside Conley in Utah. That Jazz team employed dynamic ball movement and a sophisticated offensive system that emphasized 3-point shooting. This Cleveland team does the same. That Jazz team and this Cleveland team had a monster lob threat and rim protector in the middle in Gobert and Jarrett Allen , respectively. That Jazz team and this Cleveland team both took the NBA by surprise with their regular-season success. There is a difference. This Cleveland team has Evan Mobley and that Jazz team didn’t. And Mobley is the kind of versatile two-way 7-footer who can make an outsized impact come playoff time. “It’s different because we have two (big men) back there,” Mitchell said. “It’s different because our perimeter defense has taken a step. But there are some very similar comparisons that are easy to look at and be like, OK, I can see that. There are definitely a lot of similarities.” Though Mitchell’s minutes and raw points production are down, if you watch him for an extended period, it’s obvious Mitchell is playing at an All-NBA level. He’s defending as well as he ever has as a pro, mainly because his decreased offensive usage is allowing him to focus more on defense. He’s playing with more pace while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range for the first time in his career. He’s no longer forcing himself on games, which has been a major weakness in the past. He’s trying harder than ever to empower teammates, mainly Mobley. Mitchell is playing 31.6 minutes a night, by far the lowest of his career. It remains to be seen how patient he will be in a playoff setting. But one of the reasons the Cavaliers have been so good this season is because Mitchell has embraced a smaller workload. And the irony of that is he’s become a better all-around player because of it.
