Madhubani (Bihar), Nov 30: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday urged women to come forward and take benefits of central schemes to make them more capable and empowered. She was speaking at a credit outreach programme held in Madhubani, where loans to the tune of Rs 1,121 crore were provided to 50,294 beneficiaries by various banks. “Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji says there should be a ‘Lakhpati Didi’ in every village of the country... and for this, banks have launched several schemes for providing financial assistance to women. “Women are being given financial assistance and training through every Self Help Group (SHG) in Bihar. I urge women to become a part of the schemes launched by the central government... so that they can become more capable and empowered,” Sitharaman said. She said women would play an important role in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047. “Our PM believes that India’s development should be led by women. The focus of the NDA government is clear... The poor, women, youths and farmers are the top four priorities of the government. The PM gives the example of Bihar and says that other states should also follow the same path of development and growth,” the finance minister said. Sitharaman also distributed copies of the Constitution in Maithili and Sanskrit languages to people during the programme. Besides, she visited the Mithila Chitrakala Sansthan in Saurath area in Madhubani, and interacted with artisans specialising in Mithila paintings and terracotta art. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) announced the sanction of more than Rs 155.84 crore and Rs 75.52 lakh, respectively, for various rural road projects, officials said. Later, Sitharaman met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his official residence in Patna. Ludhiana: A woman has been booked for taking Rs 4.7 lakh from a man by promising to send him abroad, but failing to keep the promise and refusing to return the money when nothing fructified, said police on Wednesday. The FIR against the woman has been registered at Durgi police station. Deepak Kumar, a resident of 33-Ft Road, Giaspura, lodged a complaint with the police on July 1, 2023, after which an inquiry was marked. After the probe, police registered a case against Manpreet Kaur alias Muskan of Phase II, Urban Estate in Dugri, on Wednesday. Kumar said one of his friends had given his file to Manpreet, who claimed that she sends people abroad on work permit. “She said she would get me the job of a caretaker in England,” he alleged. He added the woman took Rs 4.7 lakh in Jan 2023 and claimed that she started the process for a visa. Though months passed, the visa never came. When he asked for the money back, the woman refused, it has been alleged. He then filed a police complaint. Deepak said the woman also duped his friend, through whom he met her, of Rs 4 lakh. His friend also filed a police complaint, but it is pending an inquiry. ASI Dilbagh Singh, investigating officer from Dugri police station, said they have registered a case under sections 420 (cheating) of IPC and Immigration Act. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California quarterback Miller Moss is entering the transfer portal after losing the Trojans' starting job last month. Moss made his announcement on social media Monday. Moss started the Trojans ' bowl victory last season and their first nine games this season before coach Lincoln Riley replaced him with Jayden Maiava in early November. “Being a USC Trojan was a lifelong dream of mine,” Moss wrote. “Putting on the cardinal and gold and competing on behalf of my teammates and school is something I will forever take pride in. I poured everything I have into this — body, heart, mind and soul — and am humbled by and proud of what my teammates and I accomplished.” Moss, who was born in Los Angeles and went to high school in the San Fernando Valley, signed with USC before Riley arrived at the school. Moss also stayed with the Trojans after Caleb Williams transferred from Oklahoma to rejoin Riley, and he served as Williams’ backup for two seasons before getting his chance to play with six touchdown passes in last year's Holiday Bowl. Moss completed 64.4% of his passes this season for 2,555 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. After a spectacular 378-yard performance to beat LSU in the Trojans' season opener, Moss didn't play poorly as a starter, but he also wasn't a difference-maker while USC stumbled to a 4-5 record. Moss threw seven interceptions in his final five starts before losing the job to Maiava. OTTAWA — Two senior members of the federal cabinet were in Florida Friday pushing Canada's new $1.3 billion border plan with members of Donald Trump's transition team, a day after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself appeared to finally push back at the president-elect over his social media posts about turning Canada into the 51st state. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Foreign Affair Minister Melanie Joly shared few details of their meetings in Palm Beach, simply saying in a statement the U.S. officials they met with took notes and agreed to relay messages to Trump. "Minister LeBlanc and Minister Joly had a positive, productive meeting at Mar-a-Lago with Howard Lutnick and Doug Burgum, as a followup to the dinner between the prime minister and President Trump last month," wrote Jean-Sébastien Comeau, a spokesman for LeBlanc. Lutnick is Trump's nominee for commerce secretary, and Burgum is the former governor of North Dakota and current nominee for secretary of the interior. When announcing Lutnick as his commerce pick Trump said the chief executive of the financial firm Cantor Fitzgerald would be in charge of the Trump "tariff and trade agenda." "Both Ministers outlined the measures in Canada’s Border Plan and reiterated the shared commitment to strengthen border security as well as combat the harm caused by fentanyl to save Canadian and American lives." He added the ministers agreed to continue the discussions in the coming weeks. Joly is also expected to meet in Florida with senator Lindsay Graham Friday evening. This trip comes less than four weeks before Trump is sworn in again as president. The broad strokes of Canada's new border plan were made public Dec. 17, including a new aerial intelligence task force to provide round-the-clock surveillance of the border, and improved efforts using technology and canine teams to seek out drugs in shipments leaving Canada. Comeau said earlier Friday morning the ministers would also emphasize the negative impacts of Trump's threatened tariffs on both Canada and the U.S. Comeau said the ministers were to build on the discussions that took place last month when Trudeau and LeBlanc met Trump at Mar-a-Lago just days after Trump first made his tariff threat. It was at that dinner on Nov. 29 when Trump first raised the notion of Canada becoming the 51st state, a comment LeBlanc has repeatedly since insisted was just a joke. But Trump has continued the quip repeatedly in various social media posts, including in his Christmas Day message when he said Canadians would pay lower taxes and have better military protection if they became Americans. The injury came one game after he'd posted a career-best 138 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns in a victory over Cleveland. He also has lined up at quarterback and running back, as well as playing special teams. “It means everybody else has to step up,” Rizzi said. “He fills so many roles, so there are going to be a lot of different guys that have to be a part of the solution there.
