And thus, Acutis—who died in 2006 from leukemia at age 15—will become the first millennial saint. At the , Linda Kinstler plays off this to provide a fascinating deep dive into how the Vatican determines just who gets to be called a saint. The process is a secretive one handled by the centuries-old Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. "We are a very peculiar court," Father Angelo Romano tells Kinstler. For example, "there is no point when a Cause will be dismissed, and there is no statute of limitations," he says. The court first examines the spiritual bona fides of a prospective saint in life, and, if it passes muster, moves on to the more controversial phase of verifying two miracles. And all of this unfolds in a process Kinstler likens to a political campaign. "Who gets to be a saint is not just about holiness; it is about identity, politics, economics and geography," she writes. Canonization "has long been a way for the Catholic church to shape its image, and the Vatican has an incentive to approve candidates with useful profiles." Much of the piece deals with the modern difficulty of verifying medical miracles—every one since 1950 has been a "physical act of healing"—as science advances and provides the ability to explain what was once inexplicable. Of course, for the faithful, to "truly believe in miracles is to require no proof of their occurrence, and to know that one may transpire at any moment," observes Kinstler. The Buffalo Bills quarterback had a heartwarming response to a reporter asking how he felt taking home a victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 1 while newly engaged to Hailee Steinfeld . "Felt good," Josh said of his experience playing as a fiancé during the post-game conference alongside wide receiver Amari Cooper Dec. 1. "Felt free." It's been an eventful few days for the football player— who was on the field for the first time since his proposal —as he also became the first quarterback in NFL history during the 49ers face-off to pass for, rush for and catch a touchdown in a single game, Sunday Night Football on NBC confirmed. And just a week before, the 28-year-old—who also broke the record for the most touchdowns in the Bills' franchise history during the match— got down on one knee and proposed to the Hawkeye star by a flower-adorned arch overlooking the glimmering waves. Despite the recent update on their relationship status, Josh and Hailee, 27, have kept their romance close to their chests . In fact, after announcing their sweet milestone, the NFL player danced around the news while reflecting on his bye week. "It was fantastic," he said of the time off during a Nov. 27 press conference. "It was great. I got some sun, hung out with family. It was fantastic." But Josh's decision to keep his and Hailee's relationship private wasn't made lightly. He previously shared how surprised he was at people's interest in their relationship and the lengths that some paparazzi had gone to for photos. "The fact anybody cares about that still blows my mind," he admitted on the Pardon My Take podcast last August. "They were on a boat. I saw it and I just felt this gross feeling. The insecurity, no privacy. I was like, 'What's wrong with you?'" That doesn't mean he and the Edge of Seventeen star don't share any details about their personal life, however. With Christmas around the corner, Hailee recently revealed that they both got each other the same gift last year and the adorable story behind their exchange. "I got this knife for Josh last year for Christmas because cooking is something we love to do together," she shared in her newsletter Beau Society in October, per Sports Illustrated . "For Christmas he got me...the same one in a different colorway!" "After we exchanged our knives lol ," she continued, "he told me there's an old wive's tale that if you gift your significant other a knife you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship. So we exchanged quarters so we didn't have that bad omen." Keep reading for more of Hailee and Josh's winning romance. By ERIC TUCKER WASHINGTON (AP) — A ninth U.S. telecoms firm has been confirmed to have been hacked as part of a sprawling Chinese espionage campaign that gave officials in Beijing access to private texts and phone conversations of an unknown number of Americans, a top White House official said Friday. Biden administration officials said this month that at least eight telecommunications companies , as well as dozens of nations, had been affected by the Chinese hacking blitz known as Salt Typhoon. But Anne Neuberger, the deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging technologies, told reporters Friday that a ninth victim had been identified after the administration released guidance to companies about how to hunt for Chinese culprits in their networks. The update from Neuberger is the latest development in a massive hacking operation that has alarmed national security officials, exposed cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the private sector and laid bare China’s hacking sophistication. The hackers compromised the networks of telecommunications companies to obtain customer call records and gain access to the private communications of “a limited number of individuals.” Though the FBI has not publicly identified any of the victims, officials believe senior U.S. government officials and prominent political figures are among those whose whose communications were accessed. Officials believe the goal of the hackers was to identify who owned the phones and, if they were “government targets of interest,” spy on their texts and phone calls, she said. The FBI said most of the people targeted by the hackers are “primarily involved in government or political activity.” Neuberger said the episode highlighted the need for required cybersecurity practices in the telecommunications industry, something the Federal Communications Commission is to take up at a meeting next month. “We know that voluntary cyber security practices are inadequate to protect against China, Russia and Iran hacking of our critical infrastructure,” she said. The Chinese government has denied responsibility for the hacking.Maura Higgins has put an end to the swirling dating rumours linking her with Pete Wicks. On tonight's episode of I'm A Celebrity, the Love Island favourite cleared the air while chatting with campmate GK Barry. As they washed their clothes in the creek, Maura recalled being quizzed by the media about her relationship status with Pete, to which she firmly replied: "You know more than me! No, I'm single. People can date and not be in a relationship and take things slow." She also expressed her views on involving the press early on, questioning: "What's the point in getting them involved too soon, when you just don't know where it's gonna go, you know?" Grace shared her own experiences of keeping her relationship with footballer Ella Rutherford under wraps, prompting Maura to reveal that she and Pete had already been caught by paparazzi. She admitted: "Well we've already been papped, tongues down each other's necks and we had no idea!" This isn't the first time Maura has spoken about her personal life on the show; in Sunday night's episode, she disclosed that she was seeing someone before heading to Australia, clarifying, "I am but I was seeing someone before I came in, but I'm not in a relationship." When Dean McCullough inquired if her romantic interest was also a public figure, she confirmed: "Yeah." Speculation about Maura and Pete began in August after they were seen looking close in London, and again in October at the National Television Awards, fuelling further speculation about their relationship. Both have repeatedly denied the rumours, insisting they are just friends. Pete has been publicly supporting Maura on social media during her time on the show, posting stories with encouraging messages of support. Maura joined the jungle a week into the show alongside fellow latecomer Reverend Richard Coles, and they were sent to the jungle junkyard. They had to trick the main camp into believing they were living in poor conditions, but in reality, they had access to luxuries including a fridge, a double bed and a gas cooker. I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! airs every night at 9pm on ITV1, STV and ITVX.

An MBTA Commuter Rail train has collided with an minivan in Abington, Massachusetts, resulting in heavy damage to the minivan and triggering significant delays on that Commuter Rail line on Monday afternoon. Aerial video footage from Sky5 shows the badly damaged minivan in a ditch next to the railroad tracks with the Commuter Rail train idle beside it. According to the MBTA, the Commuter Rail train struck the Chrysler Pacifica just after 3 p.m. Monday, at the railroad crossing by the intersection of Railroad Street and North Avenue. The driver of the minivan, a 45 year old female, suffered non-life threatening injuries, the MBTA said. She was transported from the scene by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. MBTA transit police said the woman was conscious and speaking to officers who were at the crash scene. Firefighters from the Abington Fire Department were also assisting at the scene. The MBTA said they determined the safety grade crossing equipment was fully functional and operational at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported by any passenger on board the train and the MBTA said transit police detectives will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. In a social media post , the MBTA announced "Kingston Line passengers may experience significant delays in both directions due to a road vehicle on the right of way in the Abington area."Oklahoma State WR Da'Wain Lofton plans to enter transfer portalSebastian Mack made up for a pair of missed late free throws by converting a three-point play with 33 seconds remaining as No. 22 UCLA earned a 65-62 victory over No. 14 Gonzaga on Saturday in the West Coast Hoops Showdown at Inglewood, Calif. Eric Dailey Jr. led UCLA with 18 points and shot 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Kobe Johnson scored all 12 of his points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc for the Bruins and added eight rebounds. Skyy Clark scored 11 points for UCLA (11-2) with a game-high nine rebounds, while dishing out seven assists. Graham Ike led all scorers with 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the floor for Gonzaga (9-4) and snared eight rebounds. Ryan Nembhard finished with 16 points and eight assists for the Bulldogs. Tied 58-58 with 1:18 remaining, Mack drew a shooting foul on Gonzaga's Ike but missed both free throws. Ike's rebound led to Nembhard's go-ahead, pull-up jumper with 56 seconds to go as Gonzaga led 60-58. Mack earned a chance at redemption when he scored on a floater with contact from Emmanuel Innocenti. Mack's bonus foul shot put the Bruins ahead 61-60 to help make up for a rough 1-of-7 shooting afternoon. Clark made a pair of free throws after Dusty Stormer's missed 3-point attempt as UCLA grabbed a 63-60 lead with 13 seconds remaining. The Bruins needed the cushion, as Gonzaga executed a length-of-the-court play that sprung Nembhard for a streaking layup while he was fouled by Mack. But Nembhard missed the free throw that would have tied the game. Down by three in the closing seconds, Nembhard inexplicably took a shot from well beyond half court with four seconds still remaining that was off target. The victory was the Bruins' first over the Bulldogs since 2015, and the fourth game between the teams since the 2020-21 season that was decided by four points or fewer. Gonzaga lost guard Khalif Battle early in the first half when he was ejected for a flagrant foul call on a blocked-shot attempt against Dailey. Battle's ejection contributed to a rough opening for Gonzaga, which trailed by 11 before pulling within two points by halftime. Neither team led by more than six points over the final 17:12. --Field Level MediaTaylor Swift and Travis Kelce Spotted With Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley at NYC Restaurant
