'Chicken Nugget' on Netflix Two hapless office workers struggle with an absurd metaphysical dilemma in this bizarre science fiction comedy that asks the question: What would you do if a loved one wandered into a mysterious cabinet and transformed into a chicken nugget? Based on the gonzo web cartoon series of the same name, "Chicken Nugget" chases after distressed small-business owner Seon-man (Ryu Seung-ryong) and his happy-go-lucky intern, Baek-joong (Ahn Jae-hong), as they try to restore Seon-man's daughter, Min-ah (Kim You-jung), to her human form. The show's tone frequently changes to match the runaway plot, whose digressive subplots involve time travel, a mad scientist and his jealous nephew, and Baek-joong's food critic ex-girlfriend (played by celebrity fashion model Jung Ho-yeon). Come for the unpredictable mystery, stay for the surreal humor. 'Chief Detective 1958' on Hulu Lee Je-hoon turns heads as Yeong-han, a small-town detective who takes on big-city corruption in this breezy period cop drama. "Chief Detective 1958" serves as a prequel to the popular series "Chief Detective" (1971-89) but you don't have to be familiar with that earlier program to enjoy watching Yeong-han and his team of virtuous misfits take on powerful local gangsters and crooked cops. Lee pours on the charm, and his energetic performance makes you want to root for Yeong-han, a naive hero who might have otherwise come across like an unbearably shticky do-gooder. His co-stars also excel in their supporting roles, especially Lee Dong-hwi as the stubborn Mad Dog and Choi Deok-moon as Yeong-han's venerable mentor, Dae-cheon. 'Miss Night and Day' on Netflix Part body swap romantic-comedy and part serial killer mystery, "Miss Night and Day" pairs Mi-jin (Jeong Eun-ji), a skilled but unemployed 20-something, with Ji-ung (Choi Jin-hyuk), a standoffish district attorney who has no clue that Mi-jin is also Lim-sun (Lee Jung-eun), a 40-something employee at his office. Mi-jin transforms into Lim-sun during the day and then back into her own body at night after she runs into a stray cat that used to belong to Mi-jin's aunt. Ji-ung happens to be investigating the disappearance of Mi-jin's aunt, along with that of a handful of other middle-aged women. Ji-ung's search doesn't land anywhere memorable, but the show is otherwise irresistible. 'No Gain No Love' on Amazon A marriage of convenience unites insecure businessperson Hae-yeong (Shin Min-a) with underachieving convenience store clerk Ji-uk (Kim Young-dae) after Hae-yeong's office job offers a promotion exclusively to married couples. Unfortunately for Hae-yeong, her job is run by the parents of her boorish ex, Gyu-hyun (Lee Sang-yi), who makes life difficult for Hae-yeong as he climbs the corporate ladder and also dates Hae-yeong's roommate, popular romance novelist Ja-yeon (Han Ji-hyun). Some K-drama fans don't like how much Gyu-hyun remains in the picture, but his relationship with Ja-yeon provides a sweet compliment to Ji-uk and Hae-yeong's conventional but satisfying romance. NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball switched a pair of series involving the Tampa Bay Rays to the first two months of the season in an attempt to avoid summer rain at open-air Steinbrenner Field, their temporary home following damage to Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay is scheduled to play 19 of its first 22 games at home and 37 of 54 through May 28, then play 64 of its last 108 games on the road. The Rays are home for eight games each in July and August. A series scheduled at the Los Angeles Angels from April 7-9 will instead be played at Tampa, Florida, from April 8-10, MLB said Monday. The second series between the teams will be played at Anaheim, California, from Aug. 4-6 instead of at St. Petersburg, Florida, from Aug. 5-7. Minnesota's first series against the Rays will be played at Steinbrenner Field from May 26-28 and the Twins' second will be at Target Field in Minneapolis from July 4-6. Tampa Bay heads into the All-Star break with a 10-game trip to Minnesota, Detroit and Boston, and has a 12-game trip to the Angels, Seattle, Oakland and San Francisco from Aug. 4-17. Tropicana Field, the Rays’ home since the team started play in 1998, was heavily damaged by Hurricane Milton on Oct. 9 , with most of its fabric roof shredded. The Rays cannot return to the Trop until 2026 at the earliest, if at all. NEW HOPE, Pa. (AP) — Dayle Haddon, a Canadian-born actor, activist and trailblazing former “Sports Illustrated” model who pushed back against age discrimination by reentering the industry as a widow, has died in a Pennsylvania home from what authorities believe was carbon monoxide poisoning. Authorities in Bucks County found Haddon, 76, dead in a second-floor bedroom Friday morning after emergency dispatchers were notified about a person unconscious at the Solebury Township home. A 76-year-old man police later identified as Walter J. Blucas of Erie was hospitalized in critical condition. Responders detected a high level of carbon monoxide in the property and township police said Saturday that investigators determined that “a faulty flue and exhaust pipe on a gas heating system caused the carbon monoxide leak.” Two medics were taken to a hospital for carbon monoxide exposure and a police officer was treated at the scene. As a model, Haddon appeared on the covers of Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Elle and Esquire in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the 1973 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. She also appeared in about two dozen films from the 1970s to 1990s, according to IMDb.com, including 1994’s “Bullets Over Broadway,” starring John Cusack. Haddon left modeling after giving birth to her daughter, Ryan, in the mid-1970s, but then had to reenter the workforce after her husband’s 1991 death. This time she found the modeling industry far less friendly: “They said to me, ‘At 38, you’re not viable,’” Haddon told The New York Times in 2003. Working a menial job at an advertising agency, Haddon began reaching out to cosmetic companies, telling them there was a growing market to sell beauty products to aging baby boomers. She eventually landed a contract with Clairol, followed by Estée Lauder and then L’Oreal, for which she promoted the company’s anti-aging products for more than a decade. She also hosted beauty segments for CBS’s “The Early Show.” “I kept modeling, but in a different way,” she told The Times, “I became a spokesperson for my age.” In 2008, Haddon founded WomenOne, an organization aimed at advancing educational opportunities for girls and women in marginalized communities, including Rwanda, Haiti and Jordan.’ Haddon was born in Toronto and began modeling as a teenager to pay for ballet classes — she began her career with the Canadian ballet company Les Grands Ballet Canadiens, according to her website . In De Bruyne and Kyle Walker, 33 and 34 respectively, there are doubts about their ability to maintain the levels they have in the past. Walker, once so dominant at right back, has started only six games this season. City, meanwhile, has looked vulnerable in defense, keeping just five clean sheets in 18 games. De Bruyne's injuries have been mounting. After being sidelined for much of last season, he's made only five starts this term. Phil Foden has also struggled replicate the form that saw him named footballer of the year last season, with three goals in 14 games. Winners' fatigue Guardiola famously questioned his players' title credentials midway through the treble-winning year of 2022-23, describing City as a "happy flowers" team. It challenged them to raise their game in the face of a challenge from Arsenal, which led the standings for much of that campaign. It worked, with City going on to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. With another league title secured last term, it is a constant challenge for dominant teams to find the hunger to reach new heights, even if Guardiola's passion is as evident as ever. Rivals New Liverpool coach Arne Slot has taken the fight to Guardiola right from the start. Liverpool leads the way in the Premier League and the Champions League, with Slot winning 15 of his first 17 games since succeeding Jurgen Klopp in the offseason. Arsenal under Guardiola's former assistant Mikel Arteta was runner-up to City in the last two years. Though it has faltered this season, it is just four points behind City in fourth. Chelsea is third, ahead of Arsenal on goal difference, and under another of Guardiola's former assistants, Enzo Maresca. Chelsea looks like it could push towards the top of the standings. Just four points separate third and 13th, and the early weeks of the campaign suggest a broad spread of quality across the league, perhaps accounting for points being dropped by the likes of City and Arsenal. Track record This is not the first time City has run into trouble in a campaign's early stages. Losing to Aston Villa 1-0 last December marked a run of four games without a win in the league. It turned out to be the last time Guardiola's team lost in the league all season. In February last year, City lost to Tottenham 1-0 and was five points adrift of leader Arsenal. It was unbeaten in its next 16 league games and also went on the win the treble. A five-point gap to Liverpool in November looks far less daunting by comparison.
