VIGO, Spain, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Celta Vigo fought back with two late goals in quick succession to hold LaLiga leaders Barcelona to a highly entertaining 2-2 draw on Saturday. It looked like Barca were cruising towards victory after they opened a two-goal lead thanks to strikes by captain Raphinha in the 15th minute and by Robert Lewandowski in the 61st, but the script changed after their midfielder Marc Casado was sent off due to a second-yellow card for a foul in the 82nd minute. With Barca down to 10-men, the home side piled on the pressure and managed to score twice with strikes by substitute Alfonso Gonzalez and Hugo Alvarez in the 84th and 86th minutes respectively. Barca top the LaLiga standings with 34 points, five ahead of Atletico Madrid in second and seven ahead of third-placed Real Madrid, who have two games in hand. Sign up here. Stock indexes closed mixed on Wall Street at the end of a rare bumpy week. The S&P 500 ended little changed Friday. The benchmark index reached its latest in a string of records a week ago. It lost ground for the week following three weeks of gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2%. The Nasdaq composite edged up 0.1%. Broadcom surged after the semiconductor company beat Wall Street’s profit targets and gave a glowing forecast, highlighting its artificial intelligence products. RH, formerly known as Restoration Hardware, surged after raising its revenue forecast. Treasury yields rose in the bond market. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below. Stocks slipped in afternoon trading Friday as Wall Street closes out a rare bumpy week. The S&P 500 was up by less than 0.1% and is on track for a loss for the week after three straight weekly gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 58 points, or 0.1% to 43,856 as of 3 p.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq rose 0.1% and is hovering around its record. Broadcom surged 24.9% for the biggest gain in the S&P 500 after the semiconductor company beat Wall Street’s profit targets and gave a glowing forecast, highlighting its artificial intelligence products. The company also raised its dividend. The company's big gain helped cushion the market's broader fall. Pricey stock values for technology companies like Broadcom give the sector more weight in pushing the market higher or lower. Artificial intelligence technology has been a focal point for the technology sector and the overall stock market over the last year. Tech companies, and Wall Street, expect demand for AI to continue driving growth for semiconductor and other technology companies. Even so, some big tech stocks were in the red Friday. Nvidia slid 2.6%, Meta Platforms dropped 1.7% and Netflix was down 0.7%. Furniture and housewares company RH, formerly known as Restoration Hardware, surged 14.2% after raising its forecast for revenue growth for the year. Wall Street's rally stalled this week amid mixed economic reports and ahead of the Federal Reserve's last meeting of the year. The central bank will meet next week and is widely expected to cut interest rates for a third time since September. Expectations of a series of rate cuts has driven the S&P 500 to . The Fed has been lowering its benchmark interest rate following an aggressive rate hiking policy that was meant to tame inflation. It raised rates from near-zero in early 2022 to a two-decade high by the middle of 2023. Inflation eased under pressure from higher interest rates, nearly to the central bank's 2% target. The economy, including consumer spending and employment, held strong despite the squeeze from inflation and high borrowing costs. A slowing job market, though, has helped push a long-awaited reversal of the Fed's policy. Inflation rates have been warming up slightly over the last few months. A report on consumer prices this week showed an increase to 2.7% in November from 2.6% in October. The Fed's preferred measure of inflation, the personal consumption expenditures index, will be released next week. Wall Street expects it to show a 2.5% rise in November, up from 2.3% in October. The economy, though, remains solid heading into 2025 as consumers continue spending and employment remains healthy, said Gregory Daco, chief economist at EY. “Still, the outlook is clouded by unusually high uncertainty surrounding regulatory, immigration, trade and tax policy,” he said. Treasury yields edged higher. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.40% from 4.34% late Thursday. European markets slipped. Britain's FTSE 100 fell 0.1%. Britain’s economy unexpectedly shrank by 0.1% month-on-month in October, following a 0.1% decline in September, according to data from the Office for National Statistics. Asian markets closed mostly lower. Damian J. Troise And Alex Veiga, The Associated PressOne day, when actor and comedian Rosie O'Donnell was in her 50s, her body ached and her arms felt sore, but she pushed through the pain, not realizing she was having a massive heart attack. She had surgery to put in a stent that saved her life. Shortly after her 2012 heart attack, O'Donnell shared her experience on her blog. During her 2015 television standup special, she spoke about how the experience changed her life. The segment included a heart attack acronym the comedian coined: HEPPP (hot, exhausted, pain, pale, puke). O'Donnell's candidness about her heart attack helped spread awareness about how it can present differently in women. She's one of countless celebrities over the years who have opened up about their health conditions, including breast cancer, HIV, depression, heart disease and stroke. When celebrities reveal and discuss their health issues, the impact can be far-reaching. It not only helps to educate the public, but it also can reduce stigma and inspire others. "Health disclosures by celebrities do matter, and we know this from decades of research across a lot of different health conditions and public figures," said Dr. Jessica Gall Myrick, a professor of health communication at Pennsylvania State University in University Park. "They absolutely do influence people." Some of the earliest celebrity health disclosures happened in the 1970s and 1980s with U.S. presidents and first ladies. When first lady Betty Ford was diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks after Gerald Ford became president in 1974, she spoke openly about her diagnosis, inviting photographers into the White House and helping make talk of cancer less taboo. In 1987, first lady Nancy Reagan used her breast cancer diagnosis as a chance to advocate for women to get mammograms. Her disclosure came two years after President Ronald Reagan's colon cancer diagnosis, about which the couple was equally as vocal. "Individuals throughout the country have been calling cancer physicians and information services in record numbers," the Los Angeles Times reported after Nancy Reagan's widely publicized surgery. The public showed a similar interest years earlier following Betty Ford's mastectomy. Another major milestone in celebrity health disclosures came in 1991, when 32-year-old NBA superstar Earvin "Magic" Johnson revealed he had tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. "Life is going to go on for me, and I'm going to be a happy man," Johnson assured fans during a news conference. He immediately retired, only to return to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996. His disclosure, along with his work as an advocate for safe sex, helped shatter stigmas around HIV and AIDS. Calls to testing centers increased significantly in the days and weeks after Johnson's announcement. "That celebrity disclosure really helped people see there was a wider susceptibly to HIV," Gall Myrick said. "People were more likely to say, 'I need to think about my own risks.' It was very powerful." When it comes to heart and stroke health, President Dwight Eisenhower helped make heart attacks less frightening and mysterious. During a news conference in 1955, millions of Americans learned from the president's doctors about his heart condition, his treatment, and concrete steps they could take to reduce their own heart attack risk. Other notable figures have shared their health experiences over the years. Soap opera legend Susan Lucci , who was diagnosed with heart disease in 2018, has advocated for women's heart health. Basketball great Kareem Abdul Jabbar talks about his irregular heartbeat, known as atrial fibrillation, and advocates for regular health screenings. Lawyer, author and television personality Star Jones continues to speak about heart disease risk after having lifesaving heart surgery in 2010. Longtime TV and radio personality Dick Clark brought stroke and aphasia into the national spotlight when he returned to hosting "New Year's Rockin' Eve" in Times Square just a year after his 2004 stroke and continued until his death in 2012. And actor and comedian Jamie Foxx recently revealed he had a stroke last year. "Celebrity disclosures represent teachable moments," said Dr. Seth M. Noar, director of the Communicating for Health Impact Lab at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. "Searches for different health conditions often spike in the wake of these types of announcements. They cause people to think about these health issues, learn more about them, and in some cases change their behaviors." Celebrities have also highlighted the importance of CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator, or AED, to restore a person's heartbeat if they experience cardiac arrest. Interest in CPR and AEDs spiked in 2023 after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest during an NFL game broadcast on national TV. Views of the American Heart Association's hands-only CPR pages jumped more than 600% in the days following Hamlin's cardiac arrest. Three months later, around 3 million people had watched the AHA's CPR video. Family members of celebrities who have died from a heart issue have also spread awareness. After actor John Ritter died of an undiagnosed aortic dissection in 2003, his wife, actor Amy Yasbeck, started the Ritter Foundation to raise awareness about the condition and help others avoid a misdiagnosis. A literature review published in Systematic Reviews in 2017 found that people are conditioned to react positively to celebrity advice. Research also has found that people often follow advice from celebrities who match how they perceive – or how they want to perceive – themselves. The most effective celebrity disclosures are frequently the ones that tell a compelling story and include clear steps people can take to apply lessons the celebrity learned to their own health situation, Gall Myrick said. "People are more likely to take action when they feel confident and capable." Research has shown that celebrity disclosures often impact calls to hotlines and page views on health-related websites, and they can spark behavioral and even policy changes. Anecdotally, Gall Myrick said, people ask their doctor more questions about health conditions and request medical screenings. Celebrities can have a big impact because people tend to have parasocial relationships with them, Gall Myrick said. These are one-sided relationships in which a person feels an emotional connection with another person, often a celebrity. People may feel as if they know the basketball player they've watched on the court for years, or the Hollywood actor they've followed, she said. They want to comfort them after a health disclosure. Social media has only increased this feeling of familiarity, as celebrities regularly share mundane – but fascinating – details of their daily lives, like what they eat for breakfast, their favorite socks, or the meditation they do before bed. "We spend a lifetime being exposed to celebrities through the media, and over time, you get to know these public figures," Gall Myrick said. "Some feel like friendships." A study published in the journal Science Communication in 2020 compared reactions to actor Tom Hanks, who had COVID-19 early in the pandemic, and an average person with COVID-19. Researchers found that participants identified more with Hanks when it came to estimating their own susceptibility to COVID-19. The participants also felt more emotional about the virus that causes COVID-19 when thinking about it in relation to Hanks versus an average person. When a celebrity reveals a health condition, it's a surprise that may feel personal, especially if they are well-liked and the health issue is dramatic and sudden. "We feel like we know them, and the emotional response is what can then push people out of their routine," Gall Myrick said. Noar said a celebrity health story is often a more interesting and powerful way to learn about a health condition than just the facts, which can feel overwhelming. People are drawn to the slew of media coverage that typically follows a celebrity disclosure, he said. "Some of these high-visibility public figures' stories are now woven into some of these illnesses," Noar said. For example, Angelina Jolie is often linked to the BRCA1 gene mutation after the actor shared she had a preventive double mastectomy because of her elevated breast cancer risk and had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed because of her increased risk for ovarian cancer. "It's a narrative, a story that humanizes the condition in a way that very informational communication really doesn't," Noar said. "People remember it, and it can potentially be a touch point." After a disclosure, patients may bring up a celebrity's story during a doctor's appointment and connect it to their own care. Today's multiplatform digital culture only amplifies celebrity messages. "You're seeing everyday people react to these events, and that can have a ripple effect too," Gall Myrick said. "We know from research that seeing messages more than once can be impactful. Often it's not just one billboard or one commercial that impacts behavior; it's the drip drip drip over time." Still, there's a cautionary tale to be told around the impact of celebrity health news, especially if the celebrity has died. An unclear cause of death may lead to speculation. Gall Myrick said that guesswork could potentially end up hurting rather than helping if patients were to act on misinformation or a lack of information. "Maybe the death was atypical or it needs more context," she said. "That's where advocacy groups and public health organizations come in. They need to be prepared for announcements or disclosures about celebrity deaths, and to fill in some of those gaps." American Heart Association News covers heart and brain health. Peel Hunt has stated that the government has shown a "fundamental shift" in its growth strategy, but needs to address the crucial matter of driving investment into the UK stock market. In an investor note released this week, Charles Hall, Peel Hunt's head of research, emphasised that while Rachel Reeves's Mansion House speech last week was a "seminal moment" for the UK, the "piece that was missing" was direct action to boost investment in UK equities. Hall suggested this could be achieved by encouraging pension funds to invest more in the UK, including London's junior AIM in business property relief and adjusting ISAs. He added that offering "tax advantages to invest in cash and overseas assets make little economic sense". He pointed out that if domestic allocation to UK stocks increased by between five and 10 per cent, it would result in an additional £40bn to £80bn of investment in the UK by 2030. Hall noted that since the global financial crisis, the UK has been stuck in a low-growth environment "with a paltry 1.1 per cent annual GDP growth compared to two per cent in the US", as reported by . However, the research chief expressed that with the "right environment and government initiatives", the UK can return to being a higher growth and productive economy, which is why the recent initiatives from the government were so important. Last week, in her inaugural Mansion House speech, Reeves highlighted unintended stifling impacts the post-global financial crisis regulations have had on growth. Seeking to galvanise risk-taking and growth within the City, Reeves unveiled a suite of reformative measures aimed at bolstering competition in financial services and releasing new capital from Britain's pension funds. Reeves also committed to prioritising the financial services sector as one of the eight pivotal 'growth-driving sectors' in the UK. The government has initiated a call for evidence as part of their strategy, with plans to publish by next spring. A centrepiece of Reeves' new proposals included directives to the Financial Conduct Authority and other City watchdogs to enhance their growth focus. Dismissing claims of the measures being inconsequential, Hall asserted, "Messages from the government demonstrate its priorities and clear direction." Hall acknowledged a "material change" in the FCA since it adopted a secondary objective focused on growth last year. Further, Reeves has advocated for the amalgamation of over 80 local authority pension schemes, holding assets totalling £350bn, fostering a new private stock exchange, and supporting a nascent 'British Growth Partnership'. Hall expressed support for these initiatives.Roc Marciano and The Alchemist Cap Off an Eventful Year With ‘The Skeleton Key’The Kremlin says heavy Russian air strikes on Ukraine are its response to Ukraine's use of weapons obtained from its allies. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted a Ukrainian strike on a Russian military airport in Taganrog on Wednesday as justification, the Russian state news agency TASS reported. The Defence Ministry in Moscow wrote on Telegram that the Russian response had been to launch a massive attack on Ukraine's fuel and energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the overnight bombardment "one of the largest attacks on our power grid" since the start of the war in February 2022. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia's military used 94 missiles and cruise missiles as well as 193 combat drones. The new commander of Ukraine's ground forces vowed a "massive transformation" of his branch on Friday to improve troop training, management and recruitment. The overhaul by Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi, who assumed his post last month, comes as Ukraine's outmanned and outgunned army is struggling to halt a grinding Russian march in the east making its fastest gains since 2022. The Ukrainian military said the changes would cover training regimes as well as battlefield and logistics management, including by cutting corruption, embracing technology and strengthening the role of non-commissioned officers. "Today, the ground forces need changes, new energy among its soldiers, and a modern approach to the development of their capabilities," the military quoted Drapatyi as saying at a high-level security meeting. Ukraine has sought to replenish its ranks through mobilisation and recruitment but has faced difficulties as reports of corruption, poor training and mismanagement have dented enthusiasm for service. Authorities are also battling a rise in desertions as frontline troops grow physically and mentally exhausted from nearly three years of war. "Changes will certainly come," Drapatyi said. "No matter how difficult it is, we have no right not to do it." Zelenskiy called on Thursday for changes at training centres that would allow recruits to learn directly under battlefield commanders. He has also appointed a prominent brigade commander as a senior battlefield adviser. Ukraine is under pressure from outgoing US President Joe Biden's administration to lower the draft age, a move Ukrainian officials have ruled out, saying their forces need more foreign kit to equip the men already mobilised. Ukraine expanded its mobilisation drive in April, lowering the call-up age to 25 from 27 but since then has steadily lost ground in the east while launching an incursion into Russia's Kursk region. Ukraine is loath to reduce the mobilisation age further, fearing the damage it could do to the already-bad demographic outlook for the country. Tens of thousands of soldiers have been killed and millions of people fled the country during the invasion. with DPA

DALLAS — For a couple of schools that will square off on the football field for only the third time in next week’s College Football Playoff opener, SMU and Penn State share a lot of history. Starting with the 1948 Cotton Bowl, the first bowl game integrated. The second game, in 1978, a 26-21 Penn State win, was notable mostly because it furthered an undefeated regular season marred by a loss to Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. But, if SMU partisans of a certain age harbor a grudge against the Lions, it’s not for anything that happened on a football field. Only in the Associated Press poll that wrapped up the 1982 season, when, as the victims see it, Penn State stole SMU’s national title. “There’s no way you can deny our team was a national champion that year,” Craig James told The Dallas Morning News in 2002. “I am totally convinced, after being on this side of the game and being an AP voter, that it was an emotional vote for Joe Paterno. The consensus then was that SMU, coming off NCAA probation and a 10-1 season in 1981, had broken into big-time college football through a locked door. No other way to explain how a little private school with just seven winning seasons between 1950-80 suddenly would find itself smack in the middle of the nation’s best record over a four-year period. Contrast that image with Penn State’s Joe Paterno, patron saint of college football. Paterno had turned 56 only a week before the final poll came out in January 1983. There was a widespread belief that voters owed him after he had been denied in 1968, ‘69 and ‘73 despite undefeated seasons. Even though the Lions had lost badly to unranked Alabama and SMU’s only blemish was a 17-17 tie against an Arkansas team that would finish ninth, the prevailing sentiment was it might be Paterno’s last shot at his only title. Whatever SMU had going for it in NFL-caliber talent, quality coaching and one of the greatest backfields in college football history, it sorely lacked in sentimental appeal. “We were not gonna get the pity vote,” said Bob Condron, SMU’s sports information director at the time. “We were the enemy.” Ron Meyer — who had recruited most of SMU’s stars, cultivated its flashy image and started it on the road to pride and perdition — left for the New England Patriots after the ‘81 season. In his place stepped Bobby Collins, an unlikely heir to such a vast fortune of talent. He came from Southern Mississippi, where he’d built a modest 46-32-2 record in his only head coaching job. But he quickly would build a reputation as maybe the best coach in the Southwest Conference, a genteel Southerner with a knack for adapting to talent on hand. Of course, it might have been a little tough to screw up SMU in ‘82. Of the players on a roster that included Michael Carter, Russell Carter and Wes Hopkins on defense, 19 would go on to play pro football. One is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Eric Dickerson teamed with Craig James to form the famed Pony Express. With Lance McIlhenny at the reins, it was the most devastating 1-2 punch in college football. “We thought we were as good as anybody,” McIlhenny said. “Every time we teed it up, we thought we could win.” The Mustangs did just that, rising from eighth in the preseason poll to second by the time they played the Razorbacks in their final regular-season game. Along the way they escaped several close calls. None was more dramatic than the last-second kick return by Bobby Leach to beat Texas Tech the week before. SMU didn’t have any such trick in its bag for Arkansas. Only after a controversial interference penalty did the Mustangs find themselves in a position to preserve their winning streak. Knowing he needed only a tie to win the SWC title, Collins elected to kick instead of going for two and the win. The media didn’t necessarily agree. The immediate reaction was to drop SMU from second to fourth and elevate Penn State to second. Some voters even cited Collins’ decision as justification for voting Penn State No. 1 and SMU No. 2 after the Lions beat top-ranked Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Besides beating the Bulldogs, Penn State had built a good case of its own. The Lions, led by Todd Blackledge and Curt Warner, had NFL talent, too. They were 5-1 against ranked teams. Their opponents’ composite record of 87-39-2 was tops in the nation, far ahead of SMU’s 56-66-2. The separator, in Collins’ mind, was SMU’s status as the nation’s only undefeated team, while Penn State lost 42-21 to an Alabama team that would finish 8-4. “I saw that game on television,” Collins told reporters, “and Alabama wasn’t very good this year.” His argument didn’t go anywhere with voters. Penn State got 44 first-place votes to nine for SMU, which had finished its season by beating sixth-ranked Pitt and Dan Marino, 7-3, in a miserably cold Cotton Bowl. The Helms Athletic Foundation, in its last hurrah picking winners, split the title between Penn State and SMU, which was little consolation for the Mustangs. Paterno felt their pain. “I’ve been in that position,” he told reporters, “so I know what they are saying. But there is no question in my mind we are the No. 1 team. “This is the best team we have had at Penn State.” The sentiment wouldn’t hold long. Paterno’s 1986 team went 12-0, beating Jimmy Johnson’s No. 1-ranked Miami Hurricanes, 14-10, in the Fiesta Bowl. The win gave JoePa his second national title in four years. Thaddeus Matula, SMU class of ‘01, remembers reading “National Champions” on the Cotton Bowl scoreboard after his beloved Mustangs beat Pitt in 1983. What the 4-year-old didn’t understand was the question mark after it. “That,” he said of the need for punctuation, “was a crime.” Nearly 30 years later, Matula’s 2010 Peabody Prize-winning documentary, “Pony Excess,” detailed everything that led to the harshest sanctions on a football program in NCAA history. The film was “all about your blind spots,” Matula said. He noted the same could be said about what he called the “sympathy vote” for Penn State in ‘82. Time has not been kind to Paterno or the school since. The defensive coordinator of the ‘82 Lions was Jerry Sandusky, now serving a 30- to 60-year sentence on multiple counts of sexually abusing boys. Paterno, whose knowledge of the allegations has been debated ever since, was fired after the charges in the fall of 2011 and died three months later at 85. For the moment, McIlhenny likes the Mustangs’ chances against Penn State next week. As for whether a win over the Lions would make up for the ‘82 snub, McIlhenny isn’t sure such a thing would be possible. Neither is Matula, though, at the very least, he figures a win could be “cathartic” for him as well as others. “Does one game make up for a serious miscarriage of justice?” he said. “No, but it does make for a good story.”... A 7-year-old rivalry between tech leaders Elon Musk and Sam Altman over who should run OpenAI and prevent an artificial intelligence "dictatorship" is now heading to a federal judge as Musk seeks to halt the ChatGPT maker's ongoing shift into a for-profit company. Musk, an early OpenAI investor and board member, sued the artificial intelligence company earlier this year alleging it had betrayed its founding aims as a nonprofit research lab benefiting the public good rather than pursuing profits. Musk has since escalated the dispute, adding new claims and asking for a court order that would stop OpenAI's plans to convert itself into a for-profit business more fully. The world's richest man, whose companies include Tesla, SpaceX and social media platform X, last year started his own rival AI company, xAI. Musk says it faces unfair competition from OpenAI and its close business partner Microsoft, which has supplied the huge computing resources needed to build AI systems such as ChatGPT. "OpenAI and Microsoft together exploiting Musk's donations so they can build a for-profit monopoly, one now specifically targeting xAI, is just too much," says Musk's filing that alleges the companies are violating the terms of Musk's foundational contributions to the charity. OpenAI is filing a response Friday opposing Musk's requested order, saying it would cripple OpenAI's business and mission to the advantage of Musk and his own AI company. A hearing is set for January before... MATT O'BRIEN AP technology writer
China's Huawei , blacklisted by the US, said on Saturday it is targeting 100,000 applications for its Harmony operating system in coming months as it seeks widespread help to achieve self-reliance. Assembly Election Results Live Updates Maharashtra Election Results Jharkhand Election Results Bypoll Election Results The tech giant has more than 15,000 applications based on Harmony that can meet consumers' basic needs, but the ecosystem requires more personalised and boutique apps, Huawei Chairman Xu Zhijun told a conference on Saturday. "Based on our analysis, for the Harmony ecosystem to be mature in meeting consumer needs, 100,000 apps is the milestone, and that is the key objective over the next six to 12 months," Xu said in a speech posted on the WeChat messaging app. The ambitious app target highlights the urgency in developing home-grown technologies as China faces elevated tensions with the US in areas ranging from trade to technology as President-elect Donald Trump threatens to be tougher on China. Huawei launched its operating system five years ago after US sanctions cut off support for Google's Android. The Shenzhen-based company, which sells products ranging from smartphones to laptops, later developed an open-source version of the Harmony system. Update #2 [ Sat 14th Dec 2024, 9:55am ]: The Verge has managed to extract Switch 2 measurements from Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, who says he took them from a "3D scan of the real hardware." According to Ijaz, the Switch 2's dimensions are as follows: For comparison's sake, the current Switch OLED model measures: Dbrand's CEO adds that Joy-Con appear to connect to the console magnetically, which backs up previous reports. So sure is the company of this that it has even designed its Switch 2 case so that the Joy-Con can be removed without removing the console from the case itself. Ijaz also confirms the existence of a square button below the Home button, marked with the letter C, but he is unsure of what it's purpose is. Update #1 [ Fri 13th Dec 2024, 8:26pm ]: Well, this is pretty bold — Dbrand's CEO has told InsiderGaming that the image of the device in the case is that of the actual Switch 2. If that's true, then it really does seem like the Switch 2 isn't going to diverge from the OG Switch much at all. More on the potential case and console below... Original Story: Canadian accessory manufacturer Dbrand — known for its controversial social media stunts — has shared images of what it claims is a case for the upcoming successor to the Nintendo Switch. As VGC reports, the company shared a teaser for the case on Thursday on X (formerly Twitter) along with the statement "We will not be answering any questions at this time." Now, however, it's not only posted a handful of images of the case but also a link to a product page . The page has a translucent rotating render of the case with a console inside it along with the word Switch 2 KillSwitch. The case itself is in line with many of the rumours that have been floating around, including the extra button on the right Joy-Con next to the Home button. And, on the render, you can see hexadecimal code which VGC converted to text — it says "why are you decrypting this". If you go to the website's menu, there's even a section under Gaming and Nintendo for Switch 2, but it doesn't currently lead anywhere. Of course, given Dbrand's history — such as releasing a Clone of the Kingdom decal for the Switch right around the time Nintendo's own Tears of the Kingdom OLED dropped, which has (via VGC) "go f*** yourself lawyers" written in code on the dock — this may well just be a way of them poking the bear. But the case reveal does follow on from a number of potential reveals and rumours that have popped up over the past few weeks. Last week, Chinese vendors started listing supposed Switch 2 accessories for sale online . And earlier this week, a 3D printed model was sent to SwitchUp , potential images of the upcoming console were spotted by fans in a trailer , and rumours that the Switch 2 will support of Samsung MicroSD cards popped up. Time will tell, though it's looking extremely likely we won't find anything official out until 2025. And hey, Nintendo did acknowledge the future in a sizzle reel at The Game Awards yesterday , saying "there's more to come." Do you think this is a Switch 2 case? Share your thoughts in the comments.
