The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Monday because they weren't authorized to speak publicly about it. The procedure was done Friday by Dr. Steven S. Shin. The Liberty star has begun rehab and is expected to return to on-court activities in about four weeks. Ionescu turned 27 on Friday and posted a picture on social media on Sunday sitting near flowers with a cast on her right, shooting hand. “Getting my thumb fixed was quite the bday present,” part of the caption read. ESPN was first to report the procedure. Ionescu sustained the injury during the WNBA Finals and it wasn't known she was hurt until after the Liberty won the title. She went 1 for 19 in the deciding Game 5 against Minnesota but found other ways to help the team win, with eight assists and seven rebounds. It has been a busy year for the former Oregon great. She got married, helped New York win its first WNBA championship and earned an Olympic gold medal. AP WNBA: https://apnews.com/hub/wnba-basketball« Previous Next »
Wildwood Wildlife Shelter operator Pam Turner wasn’t going anywhere on Boxing Day despite her fears the Grampians bushfire could head her way – she had a lounge room with 20 joeys in it to look after. She and the rescued roos sheltered inside her Victoria Valley house as sprinklers doused the roof and sheds outside. “I was extremely anxious. I was preparing myself for a giant fireball to come over the mountains,” Turner said. “I chose to stay for the very reason that I had a cottage full of joeys. How could I leave them locked in the cottage?” The forecast 70-kilometre northeasterly winds that threatened to blow the fire towards Wildwood failed to eventuate, and rainfall on Saturday brought some relief to the shelter. But Turner remains worried about what may be yet to come. Three homes in the town of Moyston and 11 outbuildings in the surrounding area have been reported as destroyed by the Grampians blaze so far, and animal rescuers are waiting for permission to enter the Grampians National Park to assess wildlife losses. Pam Turner caring for one of the joeys she kept safe during the Grampians bushfires. The blaze, whose perimeter stretches more than 380 kilometres, has scorched more than 75,000 hectares and is expected to burn into the new year due to dry conditions and difficult, mountainous terrain. Authorities have reported stock losses, as well as beehive, fencing, pasture and hay losses from the fire, which began early last week. The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) announced this week that it is expanding its Club Partner Program, its initiative to support the esports club ecosystem around the world. The program is expanding to 40 clubs, up 10 from its previous number, and has a $20 million investment to put towards this expansion. Interested clubs can apply for membership through January 10, and those accepted will receive six-figure funding to grow their organization. Out of the 40 slots, the EWCF plans to issue invitations to eight of the top clubs from the EWC 2024 Championship ranking while leaving the other 32 slots open to applications (member clubs have to renew membership annually). This year, it plans to target key growth markets in China, Southeast Asia, LATAM and MENA. Clubs have to have a track record of high competitive performance as well as an engaged fanbase on social media. Faisal bin Homran, the EWCF’s Chief Product Officer, said in a statement, “The EWCF Club Partner Program represents a significant step forward in our ongoing mission to foster a thriving ecosystem for esports Clubs worldwide while unlocking opportunities for organizations from some of the world’s fastest-growing esports markets, like China. Through this program, we enable partnered Clubs to attract fans with engaging content beyond the games, showcasing the personalities and talent of players, alongside their origin stories, while also developing their Clubs’ brands as fan-favorite powerhouses in esports entertainment.” Steve Arhancet, co-CEO of esports club Team Liquid, said in a separate statement, ““The inaugural program was an invaluable resource for our club, providing meaningful support that strengthened our decision-making to expand into new game titles. It contributed to one of the most successful competitive years in our 24-year history, including a strong second-place finish in the EWC 2024 Club Championship in 24′. We’re excited for the EWCF Club Partner Program in 2025 and the opportunities it brings while we continue to maintain our position as one of the most watched esports teams in the world.” Stay in the know! From Adanna Nnamani, Abuja Former Group Managing Directors (GMDs) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) have defended the ongoing overhaul of the Port Harcourt Refinery, dismissing criticisms as misguided. During an inspection of the refinery as part of the Former NNPC GCEOs Forum in Port Harcourt, the former leaders praised the efforts of the current management team, led by Mr. Mele Kyari, calling the rehabilitation a “magical” achievement. Dr. Jackson Gaius-Obaseki, who served as GMD from 1999 to 2003, spoke on behalf of the group, explaining that many critics failed to grasp the scope of the work undertaken. He clarified that the overhaul was not a routine Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) but a comprehensive rehabilitation, modernising the 1965-built facility into a state-of-the-art plant by 2024 standards. The former GMDs noted that the refinery’s modernisation was a monumental task that involved significant technological upgrades and infrastructure improvements. They also addressed concerns over petrol pricing, reiterating that pump prices are largely influenced by fluctuating crude oil prices and urging the public to better understand the complexities of the oil market. “Some of those who criticise do not understand the extent of the work carried out. They mistake it for the usual Turnaround Maintenance. This is a complete rehabilitation—transforming a plant built in 1965 into a modern one in 2024. We appreciate the effort,” Dr. Obaseki stated. On petroleum pricing, he emphasised that petrol pump prices are influenced by crude oil prices and called for public understanding. He hailed the achievement as a testament to courage and dedication, urging the GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, to remain focused on delivering value to Nigerians. Other former GMDs present at the meeting included Chamberlain Oyibo, Funsho Kupolokun, and Andrew Yakubu, who collectively lauded the success of the project.

That being said, no moment stood out more than when Reed leapt off the steel cage during the Men's WarGames match at Survivor Series. Reed's Tsunami through the table that narrowly missed Roman Reigns was truly a sight to behold. Unfortunately, it seems like it came at a cost. During the spot, Reed landed poorly and injured his foot, requiring surgery earlier this week. Despite the outcome, Reed stands by the moment and is optimistic about his recovery . "I believe that in this business, you have to keep evolving," Reed said on X. "This is just another time to do so. Your outlook on situations can make or break you. My spirit is unbreakable." I believe that in this business, you have to keep evolving. This is just another time to do so. Your outlook on situations can make or break you. My spirit is unbreakable. Now, it looks like the powerful Australian will be out of the squared circle for many months, potentially missing WrestleMania 41. According to a report from Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio , Reed will be missing from in-ring action for "many months." "I want to wish the best to Bronson Reed, who underwent foot surgery, I guess, yesterday, and he revealed on social media [that] he was set for surgery, and he had broken his foot, obviously coming off the cage," Alvarez said. "Looking like it's gonna be many months of recovery. And, I mean, the only thing I heard was, like, it was one of those things where, like, it was more complicated than they thought when they went in there. But apparently, they got it all done, and he's on the road to recovery, so all the best to him." More Professional Wrestling: WWE Hall of Famer Cancels Appearance on Saturday Night's Main Event Meltzer echoed this sentiment, noting that Reed is "not expected to be back for WrestleMania." "Bronson Reed is having foot surgery," Meltzer said. "He's going to be out for months, yeah, a long time. I was told, after you [Alvarez] had messaged me that, I asked somebody there and they said that he's not expected to be back for WrestleMania. It's expected to be a long time." Needless to say, this is a huge loss for WWE. Reed has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting Superstars on the roster today. Whether he's facing off against Seth "Freakin" Rollins, the Original Bloodline, Chad Gable, or Braun Strowman, Reed has always been able to maintain the crowd's attention and come across as a dangerous monster. Hopefully, "Big" Bronson Reed will be able to make a quick and safe recovery. Q I know social media is garbage, often misleading, false news, made up stories, but some of it is so mind-boggling, I can’t stop thinking about it. Recently there was a “journalistic” piece, a snippet from a talk show, where a woman was bragging that for her birthday, she gave herself the present of having sex with 40 men — in one day! And that afterwards, she and her husband went out for a celebratory birthday dinner. What?!? How can that be true? And whether it is or isn’t, why is it being shown across social media sites? Why is this woman bragging about this behaviour? And what sort of husband would think this was a good gift? I’m sickened thinking about it, but it’s like a traffic accident I can’t stop ogling. What has technology done to our sense of decency? Beyond A If you’re talking about the episode of ITV’s “This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield” that aired two years ago, I saw that as well. And I too, found it shocking. Is it true? Who knows? And how will we ever know unless it was filmed, and I’d rather not know the answer to that. Why this woman thought that sleeping with 40 men in one day was a good idea, I could not begin to unpack. But it’s her life. I suggest taking a break from social media. When you return, do so thoughtfully. Perhaps even go so far as to put restrictions on your phone like you would for your children. Q My girlfriend and I are both restless sleepers and are both going through a phase in our lives where we wake up hot. Her answer to this is to reach over and get intimate. At first, I thought it was hot and responded in kind. But now I find I’m just too hot and the sweatiness isn’t all that sexy. How do I tell her that middle-of-the-night sweaty sex isn’t worth waking up for? Too hot to be hot A Your description of waking up hot sounds as though you two are in a perimenopausal stage, which is the transition period leading up to menopause. It can last a year, or even a decade, and it can start as early as your 30s, but for most women, it’s in the mid to late 40s. Some of the symptoms of perimenopause are trouble with sleep (check), night sweats (check) and changes in sexual desire (check). But knowing the reasons for these changes doesn’t change how you feel in the middle of the night. Talk to your girlfriend and tell her how you feel. It’s not about how much you love her or want to be intimate with her. It’s the combination of timing, hormonal changes and desire. Work through this phase TOGETHER. There will be more changes coming and dealing with them as a team will do wonders for your relationship. Q My boyfriend is obsessed with my breasts. At first, I found it flattering, but now I find it annoying. He likes to walk up behind me, wrap his arms around me and cup my breasts. And they are his main focus when we are having sex. Yes, they are a large erogenous zone for me, but there are others that he’s ignoring. And I’m sexually bored. How do I get his mind off my mammaries? Boob Fetish A I assume you have told him how you feel. If not, you should because he’s not a mind reader. Show him what else makes you feel good, what else turns you on. You could even make a game of it, by not allowing him to touch your breasts during one of your lovemaking sessions. Come up with a “consequence” that’ll bring you two closer. FEEDBACK Regarding the 35-year-old who lives at home (Nov. 4): Reader: “I don’t know all the circumstances of why you’re living with them at 35 — and there could well be good reasons such as caring for them, or the economy or cultural considerations. But I’ll put this out there: A dear friend of mine lived with his mother through to the end of her life, and over time, the dynamic shifted to him taking care of her. Throughout that entire time, he still had a fully active social and personal life, including plenty of opportunities to host gatherings and partners at his home. “The big secret? He would treat his mom to a night out with a friend. Gift certificates for dinner and a movie or a show. If you want some alone time at the house, you can buy it!” Lisi: Great suggestion! The controversial Australian has played only one match in more than two years because of injury but that has not stopped him being an outspoken presence on social media during a difficult few months for the sport. First it was announced in August that Sinner had failed two doping tests in March but was cleared of fault, while in November Swiatek was handed a one-month ban for a failed test caused by contaminated medication. Feels good getting these consecutive days training in the bank man.... Wrist re construction and back out here... blessed..................Without failing any drug tests 🙂↕️🙏🏽 be proud kygs doing it the right way 😩😂 pic.twitter.com/J8l21lnTdI — Nicholas Kyrgios (@NickKyrgios) December 5, 2024 Kyrgios has been particularly vociferous in his criticism of Sinner, who could yet face a ban after the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed the finding of no fault or negligence in his case. At a press conference ahead of the Brisbane International, Kyrgios told reporters: “I have to be outspoken about it because I don’t think there’s enough people that are speaking about it. I think people are trying to sweep it under the rug. “I just think that it’s been handled horrifically in our sport. Two world number ones both getting done for doping is disgusting for our sport. It’s a horrible look. “The tennis integrity right now – and everyone knows it, but no one wants to speak about it – it’s awful. It’s actually awful. And it’s not OK.” Kyrgios initially underwent knee surgery in January 2023, returning to action in June of that year, but he played only one match before pulling out of Wimbledon due to a torn ligament in his right wrist. He has not played a competitive match since, and it appeared doubtful that he would be able to return, but the 29-year-old will make his comeback in Brisbane this week. Kyrgios will take on France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in singles, while he will also team up with Novak Djokovic in a blockbuster doubles pairing. “It’s good to be back,” said Kyrgios. “I honestly never thought I’d be back playing at this level. Even entering an event like this, preparing, doing all the right things. A post shared by Nick Kyrgios (@k1ngkyrg1os) “I’m really excited to just go out there and play, just play tennis. I saw Novak in the gym, playing doubles with him, a lot to be excited about that I’m able to get out there and compete again.” Asked whether he could get back to the same level that saw him reach the Wimbledon final in 2022, Kyrgios said: “I still believe I can, whether or not that’s factual or not. There was another player who was like, ‘You have to be realistic’. That’s not how I am. I always back my ability.” The new tennis season is already under way, with the United Cup team event beginning on Friday. Great Britain, who are weakened by the absence of Jack Draper through injury, begin their campaign against Argentina in Sydney on Monday before facing hosts Australia on Wednesday. That could pit Katie Boulter against fiance Alex De Minaur, with the pair having announced their engagement last week. A post shared by Katie Boulter (@katiecboulter) “Obviously some incredible news from our side, but I think we kind of wanted it to die down a little bit before matches started,” said Boulter of the timing. “My private life is out in the public a little bit at the moment. But, in terms of the stuff that I’m doing on the court, I’ll be doing the best I can every single day to stay in my own little bubble.” Billy Harris has taken Draper’s place, with the British number one facing a race against time to be fit for the Australian Open because of a hip problem. Emma Raducanu is the sixth seed at the ASB Classic in Auckland and will begin her season with a match against Robin Montgomery, while Cameron Norrie takes on another American, Learner Tien, at the Hong Kong Open.
