u777u The Pittsburgh Steelers decided to end the Kenny Pickett experiment during the offseason and traded the former first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in a deal that also saw the two teams swap draft picks. Pickett was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and started 24 games for the Steelers over two seasons. While he wasn't exactly in an ideal situation, Pickett did himself no favors and failed to prove he was the long-term solution. Pittsburgh went in a different direction and signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields, and both have proven to be upgrades over Pickett. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh product has served as Jalen Hurts' backup with the Eagles. Pickett has gotten into four games this season but saw his most extensive outing in Week 16, when Hurts exited with a concussion . Pickett completed 14-of-24 passes and threw one touchdown to one interception in a huge 36-33 loss to the Eagles' division rival, the Washington Commanders . On Friday, the Eagles announced that Hurts has officially been ruled out because of his concussion, and Pickett will now get the nod in a crucial game for Philadelphia. The Eagles have already clinched a playoff berth, but they have yet to seal the deal in the division and are chasing the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Eagles need a lot of help to grab the top seed, so that remains unlikely, but they can win the division with one more win in their last two games. However, if the Eagles lose their last two and the Commanders win both of their contests, Washington would win the NFC East. Luckily for Pickett and the Eagles, they have two very winnable matchups against the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, but nothing is guaranteed with the third-year signal-caller under center because he is unreliable, at best. With Steelers fans not having a game to watch on Sunday after playing on Christmas Day, it's safe to assume they'll be keeping an eye on Pickett. (AP) — A Tennessee man was convicted Thursday of killing two men and wounding a third in a shooting at a high school basketball game three years ago. Jadon Hardiman, 21, was found guilty in Gibson County of charges including second-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses, district attorney Frederick Agee said in a statement. He faces up to 76 years in prison at sentencing in April. Hardiman, of Jackson, attended a basketball game between Humboldt and North Side high schools on Nov. 30, 2021. Then 18, Hardiman entered the Humboldt gymnasium's crowded concession area and pulled a semi-automatic .40 caliber handgun, prosecutors said. He fired three shots at Justin Pankey, a 21-year-old former Humboldt basketball player. Pankey was hit one time and died within seconds, Agee said. A second bullet hit Xavier Clifton, a former North Side student and basketball player, who was standing in the concession line. Clifton was shot in the neck and paralyzed. He died in March 2022. A third shot struck another man in the back of the head. He survived. “Many people were placed in fear of imminent bodily injury by Hardiman’s shooting, as shown by video footage of their fleeing into the gym, into bathrooms, and other areas of the school,” Agee said. Hardiman ran away and drove to Jackson, disposing of the murder weapon along the way, the district attorney said. The U.S. Marshals Service contacted his family, and he was arrested the next day. Agee said the shooting "frightened every adult, student, and child present, who were only there to support their team and enjoy a good game.”

Greenwood's journey to the top of French football has been nothing short of remarkable. Hailing from a small town in Canada, the 21-year-old striker was always destined for greatness. His natural talent and dedication to the sport set him apart from an early age, and it was only a matter of time before he caught the eye of top European clubs. In the summer of 2021, Greenwood made the move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, where he quickly established himself as a key player in the team.

"Donald is a lovely character - and a true national treasure," said the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Kate Fennelly, who also paid him a visit. Mr Rose, who was born in 1914 in Westcott, Surrey, also received a card from The King and Queen , which he proudly showed off. Other performances at the care home included Kate from D-Day Darlings, an all-female singing group who reached the finals of ITV's Britain's Got Talent . However, at times, this relationship can be strained due to various factors, including unfair treatment towards certain individuals within the squad. One such case that has garnered attention in recent times is the situation involving Denis Suarez and Unai Emery at Arsenal.

ATLANTA (AP) — Even the woeful NFC South, where no team has a winning record, can't hide the Atlanta Falcons' offensive shortcomings. Three straight setbacks, including an ugly 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, has left the Falcons 6-6 and feeling the pressure. Only a tiebreaker advantage over Tampa Bay has kept the Falcons atop the division. Now the Falcons must prepare to visit streaking Minnesota, which has won five straight . Veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett knows the Falcons must solve the flaws which have been exposed in the losing streak. “It’s now or never,” Jarrett said. “You have to flip the mindset fast.” Kirk Cousins threw four interceptions in the loss, matching his career high. Coach Raheem Morris said he didn't consider playing rookie Michael Penix Jr. against the Chargers and won't think about benching Cousins this week. Morris acknowledged the Falcons can't expect to win when turning the ball over four times. It was the latest example of Atlanta's offensive decline. In the three-game losing streak, Cousins has thrown six interceptions with no touchdowns. The Falcons were held under 20 points in each loss. If not for the rash of interceptions which has contributed to the scoring problems, more attention would be devoted to the surge of big plays on defense. The defense forced two fumbles and set a season high with five sacks, including two by Arnold Ebiketie. The Falcons ranked last in the league with only 10 sacks before finding success with their pass rush against Justin Herbert. Herbert was forced to hold the ball while looking for an open receiver, so some credit for the pass-rush success belongs to Atlanta's secondary. The Falcons gave up only two first downs in the second half and 187 yards for the game. Cousins, 36, was expected to be the reliable leader on offense after he signed a four-year, $180 million contract. The four interceptions were his most since 2014 with Washington. Cousins now will be in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons as he returns to Minnesota, his NFL home from 2018-23. Cousins has thrown 13 interceptions, one shy of his career high set in 2022. His passer rating of 90.8 is his lowest since his 86.4 mark as a part-time starter in 2014 with Washington. “Certainly when you haven’t played at the standard you want to a few weeks in a row, you know, you do want to change that, turn it around,” Cousins said. Running back Bijan Robinson had his busiest day of the season, perhaps in an attempt to take heat off Cousins. Robinson's 26 carries set a career high. He ran for 102 yards with a touchdown, his third 100-yard game of the season. He also was heavily involved as a receiver with six catches for 33 yards. With 135 yards from scrimmage, Robinson has eight games this season with more than 100 yards combined as a rusher and receiver, the second-most in the league. Tight end Kyle Pitts had no catches on only two targets. He has only six catches in the last four games after appearing to establish momentum for a big season with two seven-catch games in a span of three weeks in October. Morris noted the Falcons have “so many people that we've got to get the ball to” but noted he'd like to see Pitts more involved. Younghoe Koo's hip issues were such a concern that kicker Riley Patterson was signed to the practice squad on Friday and added to the active roster Saturday. Patterson was on the inactive list as Koo was good on two of three field goals, missing from 35 yards. Koo has made 21 of 29 attempts this season. He did not have more than five misses in any of his first five seasons with Atlanta. 70 — WR Drake London had nine receptions for 86 yards, giving him 70 catches for the season. London, a 2022 first-round draft pick, is the first player in team history with at least 65 receptions in each of his first three seasons. While Ray-Ray McCloud III led the team with a career-best 95 yards on four catches against the Chargers and Darnell Mooney has had some big games, London has been the most consistent receiver. The Falcons face a difficult test Sunday in their visit to Minnesota (10-2), which has five straight wins and is 5-1 at home. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were paid the same amount for starring in the movie musical “Wicked,” Universal Pictures said in a statement Tuesday to Variety . “Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder,” a spokesperson for the studio said, according to Variety. “The women received equal pay for their work on ‘Wicked.’” It had been reported by some outlets that Grande, who plays Glinda in “Wicked,” was paid $15 million, while Erivo, who plays Elphaba, was only paid $1 million ― claims that appear to have originated on social media. The statement from Universal did not specify how much the actors were paid. “Wicked” earned $112 million during its opening weekend in the U.S. and $162 million worldwide, according to Deadline . The movie beat 2012’s “Les Miserables” for the biggest global and domestic opening for a movie based on a Broadway show. “Les Miserables” earned $103 million worldwide on its opening weekend, according to Deadline. Other news outlets have retreated behind paywalls. At HuffPost, we believe journalism should be free for everyone. Chu, who directed the movie adaptation, implied to HuffPost that he sees parallels between the film’s plot and the current political environment, given that the story involves “an older man gaslighting a whole nation that this woman is wicked because she’s standing up for a community that’s being silenced.” Related From Our PartnerThe request came as TikTok and the Biden administration filed opposing briefs to the court, in which the company argued the court should strike down a law that could ban the platform by January 19 while the government emphasised its position that the statute is needed to eliminate a national security risk. “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment of January 19 2025, while it considers the merits of this case,” said Mr Trump’s amicus brief, which supported neither party in the case. The filings come ahead of oral arguments scheduled for January 10 on whether the law, which requires TikTok to divest from its China-based parent company or face a ban, unlawfully restricts speech in violation of the First Amendment. Earlier this month, a panel of three federal judges on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit unanimously upheld the statute, leading TikTok to appeal to the Supreme Court. The brief from Mr Trump said he opposes banning TikTok at this junction and “seeks the ability to resolve the issues at hand through political means once he takes office”.
