Cameroun: Election présidentielle de 2025 - Près de 40 observateurs de la région de l'Ouest formésENGLEWOOD, Colo. — John Elway says any remorse over bypassing Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL draft is quickly dissipating with rookie Bo Nix's rapid rise, suggesting the Denver Broncos have finally found their next franchise quarterback. Elway said Nix, the sixth passer selected in April's draft, is an ideal fit in Denver with coach Sean Payton navigating his transition to the pros and Vance Joseph's defense serving as a pressure release valve for the former Oregon QB. "We've seen the progression of Bo in continuing to get better and better each week and Sean giving him more each week and trusting him more and more to where last week we saw his best game of the year," Elway said in a nod to Nix's first game with 300 yards and four touchdown throws in a rout of Atlanta. For that performance, Nix earned his second straight NFL Rookie of the Week honor along with the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. "I think the sky's the limit," Elway said, "and that's just going to continue to get better and better." In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press, Elway also touted former coach Mike Shanahan's Hall of Fame credentials, spoke about the future of University of Colorado star and Heisman favorite Travis Hunter and discussed his ongoing bout with a chronic hand condition. Elway spent the last half of his decade as the Broncos' GM in a futile search for a worthy successor to Peyton Manning, a pursuit that continued as he transitioned into a two-year consultant role that ended after the 2022 season. "You have all these young quarterbacks and you look at the ones that make it and the ones that don't and it's so important to have the right system and a coach that really knows how to tutelage quarterbacks, and Sean's really good at that," Elway said. "I think the combination of Bo's maturity, having started 61 games in college, his athletic ability and his knowledge of the game has been such a tremendous help for him,'" Elway added. "But also Vance Joseph's done a heck of a job on the defensive side to where all that pressure's not being put on Bo and the offense to score all the time." Payton and his staff have methodically expanded Nix's repertoire and incorporated his speed into their blueprints. Elway lauded them for "what they're doing offensively and how they're breaking Bo into the NFL because it's a huge jump and I think patience is something that goes a long way in the NFL when it comes down to quarterbacks." Elway said he hopes to sit down with Nix at some point when things slow down for the rookie. Nix, whose six wins are one more than Elway had as a rookie, said he looks forward to meeting the man who won two Super Bowls during his Hall of Fame playing career and another from the front office. "He's a legend not only here for this organization, but for the entire NFL," Nix said, adding, "most guys, they would love to have a chat with John Elway, just pick his brain. It's just awesome that I'm even in that situation." Orange Crush linebacker Randy Gradishar joined Elway in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, something Elway called "way, way overdue." Elway suggested it's also long past time for the Hall to honor Shanahan, who won back-to-back Super Bowls in Denver with Elway at QB and whose footprint you see every weekend in the NFL because of his expansive coaching tree. Elway called University of Colorado stars Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders "both great athletes." He said he really hopes Sanders gets drafted by a team that will bring him along like the Broncos have done with Nix, and he sees Hunter being able to play both ways in the pros — but not full time. Elway said he thinks Hunter will be primarily a corner in the NFL but with significant contributions on offense: "He's great at both. He's got great instincts, and that's what you need at corner." It's been five years since Elway announced he was dealing with Dupuytren's contracture, a chronic condition that typically appears after age 40 and causes one or more fingers to permanently bend toward the palm. Elway's ring fingers on both hands were originally affected and he said now the middle finger on his right hand is starting to pull forward. So, he'll get another injection of a drug called Xiaflex, which is the only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment, one that he's endorsing in an awareness campaign for the chronic condition that affects 17 million Americans. The condition can make it difficult to do everyday tasks such as shaking hands or picking up a coffee mug. Elway said what bothered him most was "I couldn't pick up a football and I could not imagine not being able to put my hand around a football." The first responders who helped preserve the Gothic masterpiece and some of those who subsequently restored it received a standing ovation after the Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich, struck the doors of Notre-Dame three times with his crozier before symbolically reopening the building. "I stand before you to express the gratitude of the French nation, our gratitude to all those who saved, helped and rebuilt the cathedral," French President Emmanuel Macron said. "Tonight we can together share joy and pride. Long live Notre-Dame de Paris, long live the Republic and long live France." Minutes earlier, the cathedral's bells rang out and Macron welcomed guests including US President-elect Donald Trump. Pope Francis said it was a day of "joy, celebration and praise". In a message read aloud, the pope hoped "the rebirth of this admirable church would constitute a prophetic sign of the renewal of the Church in France". Notre-Dame has been meticulously restored, with a new spire and rib vaulting, its flying buttresses and carved stone gargoyles returned to their past glory and white stone and gold decorations shining brightly once again. Getting Trump to attend, and organising a meeting between him and Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky at the Elysee Palace ahead of the Notre-Dame ceremony, was a coup for Macron as he faces a political crisis at home, after parliament ousted his prime minister . Trump shook hands with Britain's Prince William and heads of state and government as he made his way to the front of the cathedral. He sat next to Macron in the front row. Earlier, guests stood and applauded as Zelensky walked into the cathedral. Tesla billionaire Elon Musk, a close adviser in Trump's transition team, also attended, as did Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and former French presidents François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy. Earlier, tourists, who still cannot go inside the cathedral, snapped pictures with the restored building in the background as final preparations for the event went on inside. "It was very sad to see it burnt down and all black and ashy but amazing to see it rebuilt. Yeah, it's very special," said 26-year-old US tourist Amanda Nguyen, from Texas. Some Parisians were particularly thrilled. "What does Notre-Dame mean to me? This. Look, it's here," said careworker Pascal Tordeux, displaying a tattoo on his arm representing the cathedral. "It means everything." "I saw the construction every day from my window, the spire being brought down, being brought back. I saw it burn, I saw it rise again. I followed it day by day," said Tordeux, who lives across the river from Notre-Dame. On the evening of 15 April, 2019, dismayed Parisians rushed to the scene and TV viewers worldwide watched horrified as the fire raged through the cathedral . "The planet was shaken on that day," Macron said ahead of Saturday's event. "The shock of the reopening will - I believe and I want to believe - be as strong as that of the fire, but it will be a shock of hope." Thousands worked on restoration Would-be visitors can now book a free ticket online, on the Cathedral's website. But on Saturday, the first day bookings could be made for the coming days, all tickets were gone, a message on the site said. Group visits will be allowed next year - from 1 February for religious groups or from 9 June for tourists with guides. The Catholic Church expects the cathedral to welcome 15 million visitors each year. Thousands of experts - from carpenters and stonemasons to stained glass window artists - worked around the clock for the last five years, using age-old methods to restore, repair or replace everything that was destroyed or damaged. "Notre-Dame is more than a Parisian or French monument. It's also a universal monument," historian Damien Berne said. "It's a landmark, an emblem, a point of reference that reassures in a globalised world where everything evolves permanently," Berne said, a member of the scientific council for the restoration. The cathedral's first stone was laid in 1163, and construction continued for much of the next century, with major restoration and additions made in the 17th and 18th centuries. Victor Hugo helped make the cathedral a symbol of Paris and France when he used it as a setting for his 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame . Quasimodo, the main character, has been portrayed in Hollywood movies, an animated Disney adaptation and in musicals. So much money poured in for the renovation from all over the world - more than 840 million euros (NZ$1.52 billion), according to Macron's office - there are still funds left over for further investment in the building. - Reuters

No. 5 UCLA snaps No. 1 South Carolina's 43-game win streakOMAHA — Creighton did it again. In an in-state women’s college basketball series with Nebraska largely dictated by what happens beyond the 3-point arc, the Jays rallied with six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to beat No. 21 Nebraska 80-74 on Friday at Sokol Arena. At one point in the fourth quarter, the Jays made four straight 3-pointers. The Jays were 6 for 9 on threes in the fourth quarter and 13 for 29 for the game to give Nebraska its first loss to the season. The Jays outscored Nebraska by 24 points on 3-pointers. Creighton has won three straight in the series. Lauren Jensen had a game-high 31 points for the Jays with four 3s. Morgan Maly, a senior from Crete, scored 18. Alexis Markowski worked really hard for Nebraska, finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds and calling for the ball inside where she often had an advantage. People are also reading... Nebraska led 55-52 to start the fourth quarter. For the final 10 minutes, one of the questions was how much did Markowski have left? And also, could the Huskers defend the 3-point line just a little longer? The Jays made two of their first three 3-point attempts to start the quarter to regain a 60-57 lead. Molly Mogensen had the first one, and Jensen the second for her fourth of the game. When Mogensen made another three the Jays led 72-66. The Jays sealed the deal when Prince missed a 3-pointer with seven seconds left and the Jays made their free throws. Nebraska led 22-19 after the first quarter. It was an entertaining start. The game started with Markowski going at Maly inside the paint, the Nebraska natives who played in the same club in Lincoln. There were five combined 3-pointers, with three for the Jays and two for Nebraska (each from Prince). Creighton used a 13-2 run that included three 3-pointers to take a 15-8 lead. But Nebraska got back in it with a steal and layup from Allison Weidner and a take to the basket from Callin Hake. Creighton added two more 3-pointers in the second quarter, but Nebraska was able to keep a lead at halftime 37-35. Reach the writer at 402-473-7435 or bwagner@journalstar.com . In the early 2000s, the countryside went to London for a series of protest marches with September 2002 seeing a reported 400,000 people march through London for the Liberty and Livelihood March. Last month, farmers again travelled to London to voice their opposition to the changes to Inheritance Tax which were announced in the autumn Budget. The Metropolitan Police estimate that 13,000 people attended the protest rally in Westminster to demonstrate how widely the proposed changes would actually affect the farming industry. Over recent weeks the Government figures into how many farms will be affected have been looked at by other bodies and the conclusion is that the data upon which the policy was based was widely inaccurate. That fact comes as no surprise to any farmer or farming advisor, or indeed anyone with any basic agricultural industry understanding, and I think this, combined with previous assurances regarding taxation goes some way to explaining the depth of feeling in the agricultural community about this issue. For the casual observer not involved in agriculture, I am aware that it is very easy to dismiss the protests as “farmers whinging about having to pay some tax” and wonder why there should be any assistance with inheritance tax for farms. I can understand this assessment, and what the farmers’ lobbying groups now need to concentrate on is explaining the impact on real-life farmers, real-life farms and the look of the countryside that the proposed changes would bring. Without family farms, the UK’s food security becomes ever more vulnerable. The lack of support for the UK’s horticultural industry has led to a very worrying reliance on imports of fruit and vegetables. The same could soon be the case for all agricultural produce and the impact this would have upon our economy and countryside is a frightening prospect. The lobbying of the government to re-visit the data upon which the policies were based continues and every family farmer across the country is hoping that this will lead to a re-think in relation to the proposed changes in both Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief. In the meantime, the normal farming calendar continues and animals have to be fed, cows milked, hedges cut, fences and buildings repaired, crops tended, all in addition to worrying about the likely timing of death of family members and how much to spend on accountancy and legal advice. Despite the raft of media coverage over the Whitehall farmer protests there was one part of the story which was not very widely reported. The organisers of the Farming Rally asked participants to bring British produce to donate to City Harvest food bank. Large quantities of quality British Food were taken to London and donated to City Harvest. This food was then distributed to 400 food banks, hostels and soup kitchens across London. Even when their businesses are under threat Farmers still are thinking of others and want to feed the nation!

If I had a time machine and could go back 40 years, The Home Depot ( HD 2.33% ) would be on my list of stocks to buy. The company reimagined what a home-improvement store could be with its sprawling spaces stocking more products than traditional shops. This allowed for rapid expansion to over 2,300 locations today. A $10,000 investment in The Home Depot stock 40 years ago would be worth nearly $15 million today. And reinvesting dividends would have resulted in an investment worth over $25 million. Data by YCharts . Shares of The Home Depot trade near their all-time high at over $415 as of this writing. But as spectacular as its returns have been long term, they've cooled in recent years. The Home Depot stock has delivered a total return of 112% in the last five years. That's still a solid result, but there's a new stock to watch in the home-improvement space. Shares of flooring specialist Floor & Decor ( FND 4.65% ) are up 147% over the last five years, and this little-known stock could outperform The Home Depot over the next five years too. Here's why. Why Floor & Decor was and is the better buy An investment thesis is the core explanation for why a stock will go up (or down). For Home Depot, it's only opened 55 net new stores over the last five years, growth of just about 2%. This isn't surprising considering how large it already is, but it does limit the company's opportunity for top-line growth. The investment thesis for Home Depot stock, therefore, largely revolves around its profit margins and its returns to shareholders. Regarding profit margins, the company is already among the best in the business with a net margin between 9% and 10%. That also leaves little room for improvement -- margins can only be so high in this competitive category of retail. One of the main ways Home Depot stock creates value is by returning cash to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases. This can be powerful over the long term, and don't misunderstand: Home Depot is a great business and many investors rightly plan to keep holding shares. But Floor & Decor has greater room for improvement, and that's why I believe the stock offers higher upside. It's not just a theory: Floor & Decor stock outperformed Home Depot stock over the last five years because it grew revenue and operating profits faster, as the chart below shows. Data by YCharts . Floor & Decor's ongoing path to top-line growth is simple. It has 241 locations today and should end the year with about 250. Next year, it plans to open 25 more -- that's good for 10% unit growth. And long term, it intends to have 500 stores across the country. Same-stores sales have dropped recently for Floor & Decor -- management expects them to be down about 8% for the full year. But that's unusual and likely driven by a weak housing market more than anything. In 2022, the company capped off its 14th consecutive year of gains. Lower same-store sales have also depressed Floor & Decor's profit margin. Right now it's below 5% whereas it was previously in the 7% to 8% range. Data by YCharts . Home sales in September fell to their lowest levels since 2010, according to the National Association of Realtors. It's reasonable to assume this is the culprit for Floor & Decor's sluggish sales. The problem should correct itself within the next five years. And when it does, same-store sales should perk back up, boosting the company's margins as well. Between the new store openings, same-store-sales growth, and profit margin expansion, I believe Floor & Decor will not only outperform Home Depot over the next five years but the S&P 500 as well.Transport has traditionally propelled economic growth and connected nations. Yet, as a formidable contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, accounting for nearly a quarter of energy-related emissions worldwide, the transport sector now finds itself at a crossroads. According to the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), inland transport contributes more than 72% of global energy-related CO2 emissions in the transport sector, with 69% stemming from road transport. Aviation is responsible for approximately 2.4% of total anthropogenic emissions of CO2 on an annual basis, whereas estimated total emissions from maritime transport correspond to 2–3%. Against this background, and for the first time ever, the three United Nations organizations responsible for transport – the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Maritime Organization (IMO) and UNECE – came together at COP29 with aligned visions to reduce the impact of their respective sectors on climate change. While civil aviation, inland and maritime transport face distinct challenges and solutions to reduce GHG emissions, they share a common ambition to transition to low- or zero-carbon fuels technologies and infrastructure, and to reshape transport as a pillar of sustainable development and environmental responsibility. “Alongside ICAO and IMO, UNECE has a long-standing commitment to advance decarbonization across every mode of transport, as well as to support our Member States in achieving this ambitious goal,” reminded UNECE Executive Secretary Tatiana Molcean. “This year, UNECE’s Inland Transport Committee adopted its Decarbonization Strategy, setting an ambitious path towards net-zero emissions by 2050. This path will require transformative policy shifts, groundbreaking technological innovations, and the seamless integration of sustainable practices at all levels of governance.” The UNECE Strategy on Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Inland Transport sets out the mission of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee (ITC) to assist its member States and Contracting Parties to 61 UN legal instruments under its purview in achieving the aspirational goal of net zero GHG emissions from inland transport by 2050, through enhanced regulatory support, intergovernmental policy dialogue, and increased coordination and partnership among all relevant stakeholders. The event at COP29 highlighted the recent progress made by UNECE, ICAO and IMO in addressing the impact of their transport sectors on climate change, as well as showcased how their Member States and key stakeholders are contributing to actions necessary to achieve carbon neutrality. Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, pointed out that significant progress has been made and that strong political will can be seen worldwide to achieve the net-zero goal by 2050. ICAO now faces a great challenge to finance this ambitious transition. “Achieving net zero carbon emissions requires adequate financial resources,” Mr. Salazar noted. “The international aviation sector will require an investment of approximately USD 3.2 trillion between now and 2050 for cleaner energy transition.” IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez recalled that international shipping carries more than 80% of international trade and has already improved its energy efficiency performance by over 20% since the first IMO climate regulations came into force. “I wish to highlight just one aspect which I think is key in achieving ambitious strategies in all transport modes – the need for abundant, safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable fuels and energy sources,” Mr. Dominguez noted. “Both IMO and ICAO aim at carbon pricing and are also looking to strengthen our interaction with UNECE, particularly on programmes which involve multi-modal transport, including maritime, and the green and digital development of the Middle Corridor trade route.” Source: UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe)Are Sania Mirza and Mohammed Shami Planning to Get Married? Anne-Mette Elkjær Andersen Joins Tannenbaum Helpern as Partner in the Firm's Corporate Practice GroupOrlando Magic forward Franz Wagner is out indefinitely after suffering a torn right oblique, the team announced Saturday. He is the second star forward the Magic have lost to a torn oblique this season. Paolo Banchero has been out with the same injury since Oct. 30. Wagner, whose injury occurred during Friday's 102-94 loss to the host Philadelphia 76ers, will be reevaluated in four weeks and "his return to play will depend on how he responds to treatment," the team said Saturday. Wagner is averaging a career-high 24.4 points this season, and his scoring average has gone up every season since Orlando picked him eighth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Michigan. After averaging 15.2 as a rookie, he increased it to 18.6 in 2022-23 and then 19.7 last season to help Orlando win 47 games. Wagner goes down in the middle of an especially hot streak during his All-Star worthy season, having scored 30 or more in the past three games. He's also averaging 5.7 assists and 5.6 rebounds, helping Orlando go 16-9 for third place in the East. This article first appeared on Field Level Media and was syndicated with permission.
