The second round of the VYFL Playoffs saw the IWV Burros Varsity win a thriller over the Bishop Broncos and the Freshman Burros win over the Arvin Grizzlies. The Sophomore Burros lost to the Tehachapi Tomahawks in a close-fought game. Both Freshman and Varsity Burros teams advanced to the 2024 VYFL playoffs. The Freshman Burros beat the Tehachapi Tomahawks 12-0 to take home the championship and the Varsity Burros came out on top in another thriller 14-12 to win the Super Bowl against the Western Talons. Post season recap Freshman 8u 1st round - bye 2nd round- IWV-18, Arvin- 6 Superbowl- IWV- 12, Tehachapi-0 "The freshman football team capped off an incredible season with a 12-0 victory over a tough Tehachapi team. The game started off slow as both teams battled for momentum, but IWV burros defense set the tone early keeping Tehachapi scoreless with relentless pressure and smart play. 2nd half, the offense found its rhythm, delivering the points needed to secure the win. This Victor is a testament to the team's hard work, unity throughout the season. Going 8-1 and finishing the season winning against a great team 12-0 is an incredible accomplishment, and I could not be prouder of how these players stepped up week after week. This team not only showed talent but also heart, determination, proving what’s possible when we work together. Congratulations to the players for an unforgettable season!" - Freshman Head Coach Trevor Baker Sophomore 10u 1st round- bye 2nd round- IWV- 6, Tehachapi- 13 Sophomores had a great season finishing with an overall record of 7-2 just falling short in the second round of the playoffs to Tehachapi. Varsity 14u 1st round- bye 2nd round- IWV- 24, Bishop- 22 Super Bowl- IWV- 14, Western- 12 "Talk about having a phenomenal season, The Varsity boys did a great job. Rallying back late in both games to come out on top. By far some of the best football I have ever seen and coached. These players had no quit in them always working hard each week trying to get ready for each opponent. Biggest thing I would like to say is the team’s ability to overcome adversity and how they dealt with it towards the end of the season. They never panicked handled themselves very maturely and professional. We had some major obstacles to overcome and they banded together as a team to figure out how to keep pushing. The team improved each and every week leading into playoffs. We played some of our best football in the post season play. When the opportunity presented itself, the kids really stepped up and performed. All season we talked about success and what it looks like. well, they were listening they deserve everything they have accomplished this season. Congrats and thank you to all of the Varsity players and staff for a job well done." - Coach Bird

On Football analyzes the biggest topics in the NFL from week to week. For more On Football analysis, head here . Saquon Barkley has become the Shohei Ohtani of the NFL. There’s no better home run hitter playing football right now. Barkley had touchdown runs of 72 and 70 yards for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 37-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. He now has five runs of 50-plus yards this season and is on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. Barkley’s historic performance against the Rams — his 255 yards set a team record — captivated a national audience and turned him into a fan favorite for the AP NFL MVP award. He’s not the betting favorite, however. Josh Allen has the best odds at plus-150, according to Bet MGM Sportsbook. Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson is next at plus-250 followed by Barkley at plus-400. Running backs have won the award 18 times, including three-time winner Jim Brown, who was the AP’s first NFL MVP in 1957. Quarterbacks have dominated the award, winning it 45 times. Only three players who weren’t QBs or RBs have been MVP. It takes a special season for a non-QB to win it mainly because the offense goes through the signal caller. Quarterbacks handle the ball every offensive snap, run the show and get the credit when things go well and the blame when it doesn’t. Adrian Peterson was the most recent non-QB to win it when he ran for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. Playing for a winning team matters, too. Nine of the past 11 winners played for a No. 1 seed with the other two winners on a No. 2 seed. The Vikings earned the sixth seed when Pederson was MVP. Barkley is a major reason why the Eagles (9-2) are leading the NFC East and only trail Detroit (10-1) by one game for the top spot in the conference. Does he have a realistic chance to win the MVP award? Kicker Mark Moseley was the MVP in the strike-shortened 1982 season when he made 20 of 21 field goals and 16 of 19 extra points in nine games for Washington. If voters once selected a kicker, everyone has a chance, especially a game-changer such as Barkley. Defensive tackle Alan Page was the MVP in 1971 and linebacker Lawrence Taylor won it in 1986. Running back Christian McCaffrey finished third in voting last year and wide receiver Justin Jefferson placed fifth in 2022. The Offensive Player of the Year award and Defensive Player of the Year award recognize the best all-around players on both sides of the ball, allowing voters to recognize non-QBs if they choose. Wide receivers and running backs have won the AP OPOY award seven times over the past 11 seasons. McCaffrey was the 2023 winner. The AP’s new voting format introduced in 2022 also gives non-QBs a better opportunity to get MVP recognition. Voter submit their top five picks for each award, with a weighted point system. Previously, voters made one choice for each award. A nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league vote for MVP and seven other awards. The awards are based on regular-season performance. The Chiefs (10-1) and Bills (9-2) already are in position to lock up postseason berths right after Thanksgiving. Kansas City clinches a playoff berth with a win over Las Vegas on Black Friday and a loss by Miami on Thursday night, or a win plus a loss by Denver on Monday night. Buffalo can wrap up a fifth straight AFC East title with a victory over San Francisco on Sunday and a loss by the Dolphins. It’s not a given that the Dallas Cowboys will be looking for a new head coach after this season. Owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on local radio that Mike McCarthy could end up getting a contract extension. “I don’t think that’s crazy at all. This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas. We got a lot of football left,” Jones said. McCarthy led the Cowboys (4-7) to three straight 12-win seasons, but they went 1-3 in the playoffs and haven’t reached the NFC championship game since winning the Super Bowl 29 years ago. Injuries have contributed to the team’s struggles this season, but Dallas was just 3-5 before Dak Prescott was lost for the rest of the season. The Cowboys upset Washington last week and their next four games are against teams that currently have losing records. If they somehow end up 9-8 or even 8-9, Jones could make a case for keeping McCarthy. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Jimmy Carter Dies: Longest-Living U.S. President Was 100Projectors are for the most part expensive, even the small, portable ones that you can move from room to room or take outdoors for a backyard movie night. That’s why the Black Friday deals season is the best time to shop for a new projector, whether it’s one of the best 4K projectors or one of the best portable projectors . I’ve been digging through the projector deals before Black Friday and am finding great discounts on some of the best projectors right now. The three Black Friday deals that I’m most excited about are all for compact portable models, leading is the LG CineBeam Q for $799 (was $1,299) at LG . The CineBeam Q is a 4K portable projector, and LG is bundling it with its XBoom wireless speaker ($199.99 value) and CineBeam Q stand ($99.99 value) as part of its Black Friday deal. Is $799 still too rich for your budget? Samsung’s great The Freestyle 2nd Gen portable projector is getting a $200 price cut to $599 at Best Buy. Need a more robust, battery-powered projector to take on outdoor excursions? The Anker Nebula Mars 3 is now just $799, a 24% discount off its regular price. See details on these three below. Today's best projector deals This fantastic Black Friday deal knocks $500 off the LG CineBeam Q portable projector. LG also bundles its XBoom wireless speaker ($199.99 value) and CineBeam Q stand ($99.99 value), making this a deal not to miss. We loved this portable projector in our LG CineBeam Q review , citing its accurate picture quality and excellent webOS streaming interface, and it can now be yours in this Black Friday bundle. Samsung's portable projector is one of the most innovative we've seen, and it's now selling for its lowest-ever price at Best Buy. Portables are great for outdoor movie nights but can also be set up anywhere you want to get a big 100-inch HD-res image. The Freestyle leads our list of the best portable projectors , so this is a deal we can enthusiastically recommend. The Anker Nebula Mars 3 is getting a very welcome 24% discount in this Amazon Black Friday deal. In our Nebula Mars 3 review , we admired its robust build quality and bright picture. Its built-in battery can also last for 2.5 hours at full brightness, making it the ideal portable for outdoor movie nights. While it’s true that Amazon is filled with cheap projectors , it’s also true that the vast majority of these aren’t any good. The three projectors above are ones that TechRadar has properly tested, and we can vouch for their quality – and for these being great Black Friday deals. In our LG CineBeam Q review , we loved its reasonably bright (for a portable) 4K image, which also had excellent color accuracy courtesy of its RGB laser light engine. Two things we didn’t love about it were the relatively high price and the weak built-in sound. Both of those shortcomings are addressed in LG’s Black Friday bundle deal, which knocks $500 off the CineBeam Q’s price and tosses in a free speaker to link with its Bluetooth wireless audio output for improved sound. When we reviewed the Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen , we were taken with its versatility and innovative design. This is another projector that seems a bit expensive at full price, so Best Buy’s $200 Black Friday deal makes it much more worthy of consideration. In our Anker Nebula Mars 3 review , we also tripped a bit on its price while admiring its very bright picture (again, for a portable projector) and excellent 2.5-hour battery life – enough to last for an entire movie and then some. If you want a great projector for summer backyard nights or camping trips, the Nebula Mars 3 is the ticket. Orchestra BioMed to Participate in the Piper Sandler 36th Annual Healthcare ConferenceJimmy Carter, the United States’ longest-lived president, was never afraid of speaking his mind. Forthright and fearless, the Nobel Prize winner took pot-shots at former prime minister Tony Blair and ex-US president George W Bush among others. His death came after repeated bouts of illness in which images of the increasingly frail former president failed to erase memories of his fierce spirit. Democrat James Earl “Jimmy” Carter Jr swept to power in 1977 with his Trust Me campaign helping to beat Republican president Gerald Ford. Serving as 39th US president from 1977 to 1981, he sought to make government “competent and compassionate” but was ousted by the unstoppable Hollywood appeal of a certain Ronald Reagan. A skilled sportsman, Mr Carter left his home of Plains, Georgia, to join the US Navy, returning later to run his family’s peanut business. A stint in the Georgia senate lit the touchpaper on his political career and he rose to the top of the Democratic movement. But he will also be remembered for a bizarre encounter with a deeply disgruntled opponent. The president was enjoying a relaxing fishing trip near his home town in 1979 when his craft was attacked by a furious swamp rabbit which reportedly swam up to the boat hissing wildly. The press had a field day, with one paper bearing the headline President Attacked By Rabbit. Away from encounters with belligerent bunnies, Mr Carter’s willingness to address politically uncomfortable topics did not diminish with age. He recently said that he would be willing to travel to North Korea for peace talks on behalf of US President Donald Trump. He also famously mounted a ferocious and personal attack on Tony Blair over the Iraq war, weeks before the prime minister left office in June 2007. Mr Carter, who had already denounced George W Bush’s presidency as “the worst in history”, used an interview on BBC radio to condemn Mr Blair for his tight relations with Mr Bush, particularly concerning the Iraq War. Asked how he would characterise Mr Blair’s relationship with Mr Bush, Mr Carter replied: “Abominable. Loyal, blind, apparently subservient. “I think that the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world.” Mr Carter was also voluble over the Rhodesia crisis, which was about to end during his presidency. His support for Robert Mugabe at the time generated widespread criticism. He was said to have ignored the warnings of many prominent Zimbabweans, black and white, about what sort of leader Mugabe would be. This was seen by Mr Carter’s critics as “deserving a prominent place among the outrages of the Carter years”. Mr Carter has since said he and his administration had spent more effort and worry on Rhodesia than on the Middle East. He admitted he had supported two revolutionaries in Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo, and with hindsight said later that Mugabe had been “a good leader gone bad”, having at first been “a very enlightened president”. One US commentator wrote: “History will not look kindly on those in the West who insisted on bringing the avowed Marxist Mugabe into the government. “In particular, the Jimmy Carter foreign policy... bears some responsibility for the fate of a small African country with scant connection to American national interests.” In recent years Mr Carter developed a reputation as an international peace negotiator. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his commitment to finding peaceful solutions to international conflicts, his work with human rights and democracy initiatives, and his promotion of economic and social programmes. Mr Carter was dispatched to North Korea in August 2008 to secure the release of US citizen Aijalon Mahli Gomes, who had been sentenced to eight years of hard labour after being found guilty of illegally entering North Korea. He successfully secured the release of Mr Gomes. In 2010 he returned to the White House to greet President Barack Obama and discuss international affairs amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula. Proving politics runs in the family, in 2013 his grandson Jason, a state senator, announced his bid to become governor in Georgia, where his famous grandfather governed before becoming president. He eventually lost to incumbent Republican Nathan Deal. Fears that Mr Carter’s health was deteriorating were sparked in 2015 when he cut short an election observation visit in Guyana because he was “not feeling well”. It would have been Mr Carter’s 39th trip to personally observe an international election. Three months later, on August 12, he revealed he had cancer which had been diagnosed after he underwent surgery to remove a small mass in his liver. Mr Obama was among the well-wishers hoping for Mr Carter’s full recovery after it was confirmed the cancer had spread widely. Melanoma had been found in his brain and liver, and Mr Carter underwent immunotherapy and radiation therapy, before announcing in March the following year that he no longer needed any treatment. In 2017, Mr Carter was taken to hospital as a precaution, after he became dehydrated at a home-building project in Canada. He was admitted to hospital on multiple occasions in 2019 having had a series of falls, suffering a brain bleed and a broken pelvis, as well as a stint to be treated for a urinary tract infection. Mr Carter spent much of the coronavirus pandemic largely at his home in Georgia, and did not attend Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration in 2021, but extended his “best wishes”. Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, the closest adviser to Mr Carter during his term as US president, died in November 2023. She had been living with dementia and suffering many months of declining health. “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” Mr Carter said in a statement following her death. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”Drought, fires and deforestation battered Amazon rainforest in 2024

Only one more quarter stands between the Hawks and the win they were favored to collect coming into this afternoon. Sitting on a score of 93-84, they have looked like the better team, but there's still one more quarter to play. The Hawks came into the matchup with some extra motivation after the loss they were dealt the last time these two teams faced off. We'll see if they're able to flip the script or if it'll just be more of the same. Miami Heat @ Atlanta Hawks Current Records: Miami 15-13, Atlanta 16-15 When: Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 3 p.m. ET Where: State Farm Arena -- Atlanta, Georgia TV: NBATV Follow: CBS Sports App Online streaming: fuboTV (Try for free. Regional restrictions may apply.) Ticket Cost: $48.00 The Miami Heat will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Atlanta Hawks at 3:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at State Farm Arena. The Heat pulled off an upset win in their last outing, and are hoping to pull that off once more against the 2.5-point favorite Hawks. The Heat are headed into this one after the oddsmakers set last week's over/under low at 208.5, but even that wound up being too high. They skirted by the Magic 89-88 on Thursday thanks to a clutch shot from Tyler Herro with less than a second left in the fourth quarter. The victory was all the more spectacular given Miami was down by 17 with 5:36 left in the first quarter. Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask the Hawks). They came out on top against the Bulls by a score of 141-133 on Thursday. The win was all the more spectacular given Atlanta was down by 21 with 1:12 left in the third quarter. The Hawks got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jalen Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 15 rebounds. What's more, Johnson also racked up five offensive rebounds, the most he's had since back in October. Trae Young was another key player, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 13 assists. The Hawks were working as a unit and finished the game with 32 assists (they're ranked third in assists per game overall). That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 27 assists in four consecutive matches. Miami's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-13. As for Atlanta, they now have a winning record of 16-15. Not only did both teams in this Saturday's game win their last matches, they also took care of their bettors and covered the spread. Looking ahead, the Hawks are expected to win a tight contest, barring any buzzer beaters. Neither team has fared well against the spread this season; they are 13-18, while Miami is 11-17. The Heat didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Hawks in their previous matchup back in April, but they still walked away with a 117-111 victory. Do the Heat have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough. Atlanta is a slight 2.5-point favorite against Miami, according to the latest NBA odds . The oddsmakers had a good feel for the line for this one, as the game opened with the Hawks as a 3-point favorite. The over/under is 225.5 points. NoneOnly one more quarter stands between the Hawks and the win they were favored to collect coming into this afternoon.
