Fans are anxious for updates as the All-Star’s absence creates challenges for a struggling Sixers team. As a key piece of Philadelphia’s “Big Three,” his health and recovery are critical to their season’s success. So, what happened to him? Here’s what we know about Paul George’s left knee injury, recovery timeline, and what it means for the struggling 76ers. What happened to Paul George? Paul George suffered a left knee hyperextension during the third quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on November 20. The injury as George was reaching for a rebound, and he left the game after struggling to move on offense. This is the same knee he injured in the preseason, which had already delayed his season debut by six games. The injury is another setback for the 76ers, who have been plagued by injuries to their “Big Three” of George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. George managed just two points on 1-of-6 shooting before his exit, and the Sixers went on to lose the game, dropping to a league-worst 2-12 record. When will Paul George return to play for NBA? The timeline for Paul George’s return is currently uncertain. The 76ers have yet to release detailed information about the severity of the hyperextension or a projected recovery timeline. In October, a similar injury kept Paul George out for several weeks, so a similar absence is possible depending on the extent of the current left knee injury. Head coach Nick Nurse has indicated that the injury resembles George’s preseason issue, which required careful management to avoid aggravation. The team will likely prioritize caution to ensure George’s long-term health, especially given his recent struggles with form and fitness. Paul George’s left knee injury is a troubling setback for the Philadelphia 76ers. The team is already struggling with injuries and poor form this season. With no clear timeline for his return, the Sixers must lean on Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Fans are hopeful for positive updates as the team faces a challenging schedule ahead. Now the script has flipped. Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley's group is playing stouter, holding teams — even the high-scoring Detroit Lions — largely in check long enough to give Indy a chance to win, and it's the Colts offense that has struggled. “They are playing their tails off. You don’t want them on the field a bunch and as an offense you want to be able to play complementary football,” running back Jonathan Taylor said after Sunday's 24-6 loss. “I would say specifically on offense, it sucks when you can’t help your defense out when they are fighting their tails off all game.” Indy's defense held up its end of the bargain by limiting the Lions (10-1) to 14 first-half points and allowing just 24, matching Detroit's lowest output since Week 3. The problem: Even when the Colts (5-7) did get Detroit off the field, they couldn't sustain drives or score touchdowns. Again. Anthony Richardson provided the bulk of the ground game by rushing 10 times for 61 yards, mostly early. Taylor managed just 35 yards on 11 carries and a season-high 10 penalties constantly forced the Colts to dig out from deep deficits. Part of that was by design. “We knew Jonathan Taylor was going to be the guy we needed to shut down,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “We did that. The quarterback runs. It got us on a couple but overall, we did what we needed to do, and we kept them out of that game." Part of it could be because of an injury-battered offensive line that has started three rookies each of the past two weeks and finished the previous game with the same three rookies. Whatever the fix, Indy needs a good solution. There is good news for Indy is that its schedule now gets substantially more manageable. After losing four of five, all to teams in playoff position and three to division leaders, Indy faces only one team with a winning record in its final five games. The most recent time the Colts played a team with a losing mark, Richardson rallied them past the New York Jets 28-27. But Colts coach Shane Steichen knows that's not the answer. The Colts must get this offense righted now. “We’ve got to get that figured out. We’ve got to get him going on the ground,” Steichen said when asked about Taylor, who has 92 yards on his past 35 carries. “We’ll look at the offensive line. We’ll look at everything." Pass rush. Pro Bowl DT DeForest Buckner's presence certainly has been felt since he returned from a sprained ankle Oct. 27. In those past five games, the Colts have had 14 sacks, including three of Jared Goff on Sunday. Penalties. The Colts have had one of the cleanest operations in the league most of this season. Sunday was an anomaly, but one that can't merely be written off. WR Michael Pittman Jr. The five-year veteran is one of the league's toughest guys, but playing through a back injury appeared to take its toll on Pittman's productivity. Since sitting out in Week 10, Pittman has 11 receptions for 142 yards including six for 96 yards, his second-highest total of the season, Sunday. Tight ends. Each week the Colts want their tight ends to make an impact. And each week, they seem to fail. It happened again Sunday when Drew Ogletree dropped a TD pass that would have given Indy a 10-7 lead. Instead, Indy settled for a field goal and a 7-6 deficit. Through 12 games, Indy's tight ends have a total of 26 catches, 299 yards and two TDs. That's just not good enough in a league where versatile, productive tight ends increasingly signal success. Pittman and WR Josh Downs both returned to the game after leaving briefly with shoulder injuries. WR Ashton Dulin did not return after hurting his foot in the second half. But the bigger questions come on the offensive line. LT Bernhard Raimann (knee) was inactive Sunday, and rookie center Tanor Bortolini entered the concussion protocol Monday. Bortolini was one of three rookie starters the past two weeks, replacing Pro Bowler Ryan Kelly who is on injured reserve. 55.88 — Indy has scored touchdowns on 55.88% of its red zone trips this season. While it puts it near the middle of the NFL, it's cost the Colts multiple wins. Richardson needs to rebound from this latest 11 of 28 performance and show he can lead the Colts to victories week after week. He'll get plenty of chances over the season's final month, starting with next week's game at the New England Patriots. The Boston Celtics have been on a skid recently, losing three of their last four games. This could be attributed to Kristaps Porzingis, the C’s superstar center who’s only played 11 games this season, making Boston rely heavily on depth. In a proposed trade by Celtics on SI’s Ryan Stano , the Celtics could trade for a familiar face, in former Celtic Daniel Theis. So far this season, Theis is averaging 14 minutes per game, and puts up four points, three rebounds, and one assist. The total trade would be between the C’s and the New Orleans Pelicans. The Celtics get Theis back, and they send Baylor Scheierman and a second-rounder to the Pelicans. The C’s get someone familiar with their playstyle and could be a decent backup, and the Pelicans get a young player and a pick to help rebuild their failing team. Would this trade be good? Short answer, no. Theis is already “over the hill” in his NBA career, and his stats reflect that. For example, the Celtics love shooting threes, and their whole play style is based around it. Why would they want a guy barely shooting 26% from deep? It doesn’t make sense. While the idea is good, the Celtics should probably look around for better options. Someone like Walker Kessler would be a much better option. (NYSE:ALIT)WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — If last month's election wasn't painful enough for Florida Democrats, they're losing another state House seat after one of their members announced Monday that she's switching parties. State Rep. Susan Valdés, a former school board member who was reelected as a Democrat last month, said on X that she is “tired of being the party of protesting.” Valdés ran to be chairperson for her local county’s Democratic executive committee earlier this month. She won her current term by nearly 5 percentage points but can't run for reelection again because of term limits. Republicans have controlled the governor’s office and both branches of the Legislature since 1999. Valdés is serving her final two years before leaving office due to term limits. Republicans now have an 86-34 majority in the House. “I got into politics to be part of the party of progress,” Valdés wrote. “I know that I won’t agree with my fellow Republican House members on every issue, but I know that in their caucus, I will be welcomed and treated with respect.” House Speaker Daniel Perez reposted Valdés’ statement and welcomed her into the House, where Republicans have a supermajority of 86-34. House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell said she was surprised and disappointed by Valdés’ announcement. “It is sad that she has elevated her own aspirations above the needs of her district,” Driskell wrote in a statement on X.

The Brooklyn Nets have been better than advertised this season as they currently hold a 10-14 record and sit eighth in the Eastern Conference standings. After trading away Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks in the offseason, the Nets officially began a true rebuild. Even with their solid start, they are still expected to be sellers at the trade deadline in February as they look to receive more young talent and draft capital. Recent reports are now suggesting that the Nets are open to moving a surprising trio of players. “The Nets have received trade interest and opened exploratory conversations around forwards Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Dennis Schroder, sources said," ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday. "The Warriors are among the teams that have expressed interest in those three players, sources said.” While the Golden State Warriors may be interested in all three players, they will have to compete with other teams to land the trio, especially Johnson, who has turned into one of the NBA’s hottest commodities in trade rumors this season. Johnson is averaging 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 48.8% from the field and 43.4% from three this season. The 28-year-old is a three-point sharpshooter and has already gained a ton of interest from many teams around the league. Finney-Smith will be wanted by many teams thanks to his 3-and-D potential. The 31-year-old forward is averaging 10.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season while also shooting 46.5% from the field and 43.2% from three, which would be a career-high. Expect many teams to call Brooklyn for him due to his elite defensive play as well as his knockdown three-point shooting. The other player mentioned in the report is Schröder. The 31-year-old point guard is off to one of the best starts to a season of his 12-year career. He is averaging 18.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game to go along with shooting 44.8% from the field and 38.5% from three. Schröder is a solid defender and reliable scorer who can work as a team’s starting or reserve point guard. With the Nets wanting to trade these players away, it is clear that their focus is on getting the highest draft pick possible in the loaded 2025 draft and also stocking up on as much young talent and draft capital as possible. MAPUTO, Mozambique. (AP) — At least 6,000 inmates escaped from a high-security prison in Mozambique’s capital on Christmas Day after a rebellion, the country's police chief said, as widespread post-election riots and violence are roiling the country. Police chief Bernardino Rafael said 33 prisoners died and 15 others were injured during a confrontation with the security forces. The prisoners fled during violent protests that have seen police cars, stations and infrastructure destroyed after the country’s Constitutional Council confirmed the ruling Frelimo party as the winner of the Oct. 9 elections. The escape from the Maputo Central Prison, located 14 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the capital, started around midday on Wednesday after “agitation” by a “group of subversive protesters” nearby, Rafael said. Some of the prisoners at the facility snatched weapons from the guards and started freeing other detainees. “A curious fact is that in that prison we had 29 convicted terrorists, who they released. We are worried, as a country, as Mozambicans, as members of the defense and security forces,” said Rafael. “They (protesters) were making noise, demanding that they be able to remove the prisoners who are there serving their sentences”, said Rafael, adding that the protests led to the collapse of a wall, allowing the prisoners to flee. He called on the escaped prisoners to surrender to authorities and for the population to be informed about the fugitives. Videos circulating on social media show the moment inmates left the prison, while other recordings reveal captures made by military personnel and prison guards. Many prisoners tried to hide in homes, but some were unsuccessful and ended up being detained again. In one video, a prisoner still with handcuffs on his right wrist says he was held n the disciplinary section of the prison and was released by other inmates. Violence has engulfed Mozambique since the country’s highest court confirmed ruling Frelimo party presidential candidate Daniel Chapo as the winner of disputed Oct. 9 elections on Monday. Mozambique's Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda told a news conference in Maputo late Tuesday that the violence was led by mostly youthful supporters of losing candidate Venancio Mondlane, who received 24% of the vote, second to Chapo, who got 65%. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is concerned at the violence and urges all political leaders and relevant parties “to defuse tensions including through meaningful dialogue (and) legal redress,” U.N. associate spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay said Thursday. The U.N. chief also calls for a halt to the violence and redoubled efforts “to seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis,” she said.Philadelphia takes on Vegas after overtime win

Florida lawmaker's party switch increases Republican supermajority in the HouseThe Atlanta Braves are in somewhat unfamiliar territory. Atlanta has been great in recent years and has had a very solid core. Most of the team's top pieces have stuck together but changes could come this offseason. All-Star starting pitcher Max Fried is one of the most sought-after free agents on the open market and it's unclear if he will sign back. It seems unlikely at this point but there will be options to replace him. Newsweek's Zach Pressnell put together a list of six options to replace Fried and suggested that the Braves pull off a blockbuster trade with the Chicago White Sox for Garrett Crochet. "(Left-handed pitcher) Garrett Crochet, Chicago White Sox," Pressnell said. "If the Braves are exploring the trade market, they could look to acquire the best arm on the market: Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet. "Crochet would require a huge haul to acquire, but that's something the Braves could explore. The flamethrowing southpaw would provide the Braves with one of the higher potential starters in the game. Atlanta likely doesn't have the farm system to comfortably make this deal, but it's something worth exploring for sure." Crochet is a fellow left-handed All-Star and would cost significantly less. He is projected to make $2.9 million in 2025 and is under team control for the 2026 season as well. It would be tough to part with enough prospects to bring Crochet to town, but if Fried leaves maybe the Braves would consider such a move.
