NoneIslamabad [Pakistan]: Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Saturday said that the man seen in a viral video falling from a container during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad is "completely fine." Speaking to the media, Tarar said that the man sustained minor injuries in the incident, as reported by Dawn. The viral video, shot during a protest at Islamabad's D-Chowk, shows men, dressed as security personnel with riot gear, pushing a man off a stack of three shipping containers. The PTI supporters were demanding the release of their leader and party chief, Imran Khan . The protests turned violent on November 26, and PTI supporters were met with intense tear gas shelling by security forces. A video of the incident also went viral, sparking various claims on social media , with some posts alleging that the man had died. Refuting these claims, Minister Tarar said, "Propaganda was spread that a person offering prayers was killed by being pushed down. He is a resident of Mandi Bahauddin and is completely fine. His video has emerged; he sustained an arm injury and has bandages." Tarar further claimed that the man was recording a TikTok video as part of a challenge with a friend and was not offering prayers at the time, as reported by Dawn. Earlier, Awami National Party (ANP) President Aimal Wali Khan called for a ban on political parties that incite violence, including PTI, Dawn reported. Speaking at a press conference alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the ANP central secretariat in Wali Bagh on Friday, Khan said that PTI has been working in an undemocratic and nonpolitical manner since its formation and it has always encouraged people to behave in a violent manner. He labelled PTI as "waste that should be disposed of" and said that the state had imposed PTI on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the past 12 years but such decisions did not give good results, as reported by Dawn report. An Ohio State football fan was caught on camera appearing to spit on Michigan players at the teams’ game on Saturday, and it has some online commentators calling for his lifetime ban from Ohio Stadium. The dire rivals clashed in a low-scoring bout that saw the Wolverines pull off a hard-fought 13-10 win over the No.-2 ranked Buckeyes, likely depriving them of a shot at the college football championship. The intense game was capped off by a post-match brawl between players from the opposing teams (which reportedly required police to use pepper spray to break up), but it was the actions of one fan in particular, ahead of the game, that aroused ire on social media. ADVERTISEMENT Early on in the match, Patrick Barron, a photographer for Michigan’s MGoBlog, posted a photo on X of a man wearing an Ohio State jersey who is visibly spitting. Although it wasn’t clear from the photo whether the act was directed at anyone, Barron captioned it, “Ohio State fan spitting on the Michigan players coming out of their locker room.” The situation drew near-universal condemnation from commenters below the post, which has so far been viewed over a million times. “As an Ohio state fan that s--t p--ses me off,” wrote user @holyquacanolli. “Should be identified and punished.” User @THEREDRANGER3 described it as “absolutely disgusting behavior,” earning over 700 likes. Others called for the fan in question to be detained by police, removed from the stadium, and even receive a lifetime ban from attending games. Based on a similar past incident, it seems like an arrest isn’t out of the question. In 2022, a player on UCLA’s basketball team was cited for misdemeanor assault after he spat on an Arizona fan during a game. However, this individual so far does not appear to have been identified, and it is unknown whether the incident is under investigation. Representatives for Ohio State University did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.
FBI director Christopher Wray has said he plans to resign at the end of President Joe Biden’s term in January, an announcement that came a week and a half after President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate loyalist Kash Patel for the job. At a town hall meeting with the bureau workforce, Mr Wray said he would be stepping down “after weeks of careful thought”. Mr Wray’s intended resignation is not unexpected considering that Mr Trump had picked Mr Patel for the role in his new administration. Mr Wray had previously been named by Mr Trump and began the 10-year term — a length meant to insulate the agency from the political influence of changing administrations — in 2017, after Mr Trump fired then-FBI director James Comey. Mr Trump had demonstrated his anger with Mr Wray on multiple occasions, including after Mr Wray’s congressional testimony in September. “My goal is to keep the focus on our mission — the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day,” Mr Wray told agency employees. “In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.” Mr Wray continued: “It should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway — this is not easy for me. I love this place, I love our mission, and I love our people — but my focus is, and always has been, on us and doing what’s right for the FBI.” Mr Wray received a standing ovation following his remarks before a standing-room-only crowd at FBI headquarters and some in the audience cried, according to an FBI official who was not authorised to discuss the private gathering and spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. Mr Trump applauded the news on social media, calling it “a great day for America as it will end the weaponisation of what has become known as the United States Department of Injustice” and saying that Mr Patel’s confirmation will begin “the process of Making the FBI Great Again”. If confirmed by the Senate, Mr Patel would herald a radical leadership transformation at the nation’s premier federal law enforcement agency. He has advocated shutting down the FBI’s Washington headquarters and called for ridding the federal government of “conspirators”, raising alarm that he might seek to wield the FBI’s significant investigative powers as an instrument of retribution against Mr Trump’s perceived enemies. Mr Patel said in a statement Wednesday that he was looking forward to “a smooth transition. I will be ready to serve the American people on day one”.Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay Hails Galgotias University At 12Th International Conference On Library And Information ScienceGuardiola stays positive after City woes continue at JuveDaily Post Nigeria NAHCON moves to comply with Saudi Arabia’s order on 2025 Hajj pilgrimage Home News Politics Metro Entertainment Sport News NAHCON moves to comply with Saudi Arabia’s order on 2025 Hajj pilgrimage Published on December 2, 2024 By Kayode Lawal The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has inaugurated a committee tasked with screening and verifying the documents of Saudi-based service providers that applied to offer accommodation and catering services to Nigerian pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj operations. The Saudi Arabian government mandates that accommodation and catering services must be provided by Saudi-based companies. The committee, according to a statement jointly signed by Abdul-Basit Abba and Yusuf Muhammad Kulloma of NAHCON’s Information and Publications Division, is chaired by the Commissioner of Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services, Prof. Abubakar Abubakar Yagawal, while its members comprise experts from the state pilgrim welfare board and legal and technical staff of the commission. Inaugurating the committee on Monday in Abuja, the chairman of the commission, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh, said the committee plays a critical role in ensuring the welfare and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims during the Hajj operations. “By selecting only the best and most compliant service providers, the commission is safeguarding the integrity of the Hajj operations and upholding the trust placed in us by the pilgrims,” he stressed. He, however, charged the committee to fear Allah by upholding transparency, accountability, and diligence throughout the process to help NAHCON provide good services to the pilgrims. Earlier in his remarks, the committee chairman sought the cooperation of his members in ensuring that only reputable and reliable service providers are selected to meet the accommodation and catering needs of Nigerian pilgrims during the holy pilgrimage. According to Prof. Yagawal, the exercise is part of NAHCON’s traditional role in Hajj preparations. The committee’s terms of reference as contained in the statement include obtaining the final list of eligible applicants as harvested by the ICT division, extracting eligible applicants from the portals and scrutinising the documents and prospects of the service providers that applied for the catering and pilgrim’s accommodation in Makkah and Madina for the 2025 Hajj operation. Its functions also include producing the list of accredited service providers and taking other recommendations that will assist the commission in making an informed decision.
