AMMAN — Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Head of Government of Economic Team Muhannad Shehadeh stressed that the government has a realistic economic programme and a clear vision, and its decisions aim at achieving growth to be reflected on improving the quality of life and generating job opportunities, and sustainability based on the strategic approach of Economic Modernization Vision (EMV). The meeting was attended by the Minister of Finance Abdul Hakim Shibli, and Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesman Mohammad Momani, in addition to economic programmes' presenters, heads of economic departments and economic news editors, from various media outlets. During the meeting, Shehadeh reiterates that economic measures and decisions, taken by the government since its formation of about 60 days, aim to stimulate economic growth and overcome the consequences of the political situation in the region and the world. Shehadeh stressed that the government is also committed to overcoming all obstacles and bureaucratic complications, while balancing expenditures and money collection on one hand, and moving forward with major investment projects on the other hand, to reach the desired economic growth. He pointed out that in order to reach that, it must be in line with the vision, which includes eight engines, 35 sectors and 360 economic measures related to its aspects and sectors. He explained that achieving economic growth requires the government to facilitate indirect spending, reduce the trade balance deficit, attract investments and support the purchasing power of citizens, thus contributing to increasing the GDP, which currently amounts at JD36 billion. He also pointed out that the government has already begun to facilitate spending through a number of measures and decisions it has taken related to customs, tax and princely funds, in order to provide indirect financial liquidity for citizens that can be injected into the local market to contribute to the revitalisation of economic activity. He pointed out that the funds pending today with the customs and related customs revenues exceed JD300 million, stressing that the settlement of these issues will reflect on the money circulation in the economy. He explained that the government's decision regarding medical tourism, whether in terms of allowing nationalities to enter the Kingdom, or the opening of direct airlines, came with the aim of restoring momentum to this important service sector, calling on the private sector to exploit these facilities and work to attract expatriates for treatment purposes in the Kingdom. He pointed out that the government's decision to exempt fees and fines on vehicles which their licenses have expired for more than a year amounting to more than 550,000 unlicensed vehicles, entailing JD332 million as fees. Shehadeh also noted that the government's decision on the amended bylaw of exempting profits, of exports of goods and services, from income tax for the year 2024, came in line with the EMV to ensure the continued growth of the service sectors, especially the information technology sector, which represents one of the main drivers of the vision. He stressed that the decision will also contribute to the revival of other service sectors, especially for engineers, lawyers, consultation, the information technology sector and others, and it is also part of the EMV to generate more job opportunities for Jordanians, explaining that the services sector constitutes 60 per cent of GDP. He also praised the banking sector's step toward reducing interest by 4.99 per cent on housing loans for 3 consecutive years, after the government's decision, describing it as positive as it will stimulate other economic sectors. He pointed to the major investment projects that will be implemented as part of the EMV, foremost of which is the "National Carrier", where the financial closure of the project during the next year will contribute to activate several economic sectors throughout the Kingdom and reflect on the development aspect. He pointed out that the other project is the "Railway from Aqaba to Shidia and Ghor Al-Safi", which will contribute to reducing transport fees, raising the competitiveness and level of services and improving the performance of companies, in addition to being an integrated solution for the truck sector, expecting that the first quarter of next year will witness the signing of final agreements related to it. He also addressed the issue of "indebtedness", stressing that the government is committed to manage the internal and external debt in "the best way", and there are many scenarios in this regard, including replacing part of the debt with soft loans and lower interest rates through the Kingdom's close and strong relationships with countries, in addition to the low interest rates in the world. He stressed that His Majesty King Abdullah's recent meeting with Arab and foreign investors sends a strong message that investment in Jordan reflects high confidence in monetary policies, which are the backbone of investment and employers. Finance Minister Abdul Hakim Shibli stressed that the budget is realistic, and the government is determined, despite the hard region circumstances, to reduce the deficit in the public budget as well as the public debt, in addition to securing budget allocations for the implementation of major projects, such as the national carrier and the railway. He explained that the current budget has maintained all guarantees that concern citizens, especially with regard to subsidising bread, barley and gas cylinders. Shibli added that the current budget increased the share of capital projects to JD1.469 billion. He pointed out that the draft budget law estimated public revenues at about JD10233 million, of which JD9498 million are local revenues and JD734 million are external grants, indicating that the draft budget has set realistic estimates of revenues in a way that contributes to managing the development process efficiently. Shibli explained that the budget draft included an increase in allocations for the National Aid Fund's (NAF) social protection network, and a 50 per cent increase in allocations for the University Student Support Fund, in addition to securing necessary allocations to support strategic food commodities, as well as indirect support for essential services and facilities in the fields of water, electricity, and health. He pointed out that the government relied on a "Real Economic Growth Rate" of 2.5 per cent for the next year and a "Nominal Economic Growth Rate" of about 4.9 per cent during the formulation of the current budget, while maintaining moderate inflation rates, which would contribute to enhancing financial and monetary stability. Regarding the "expenditure Items" in the general budget, Shibli indicated that the budget allocated at approximately JD11042 million, and capital expenditures at approximately JD1468 million, with an increase of 16.5 per cent compared to its re-estimated level for the current year 2024.jili60

Stock Markets Extends Record Highs, US Labor Market Recovers, Bitcoin Hits $100,000: This Week In The MarketsMiddle East latest: UN General Assembly demands a ceasefire in GazaBEREA, Ohio — If Dustin Hopkins had to have someone breathing down his neck at a time like this, he’d just assume it be young kicker Riley Patterson, to whom he opened up his home after the Browns signed him last Christmas. Patterson, 25, was signed by the Browns a day after Hopkins pulled his hamstring chasing down Dameon Pierce on a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Christmas Eve victory over the Texans. He kicked in the final two regular-season games, making his lone field 33-yard field goal attempt in the playoff-clinching victory over the Jets, and 4 of 5 extra points. In the 45-14 playoff loss to the Texans, Patterson made both of his PATs. No one was happier for him than his temporary roomie Hopkins. “Riley’s a great dude, so I’m glad if they’re going to have somebody in, that it’s somebody that I think is a good person,” Hopkins said Wednesday. “Riley’s great. Obviously I’m aware of it, and it’s part of our job. It never feels good when typically a position with one person in the building, there’s two. So it’s not like I’m acting like it’s a great thing. But at the same time I just don’t purposely think about the things that are out of my control, and that includes decisions that the team makes.” More Cleveland Browns coverage Who is next man up in the Browns' cornerback room with Greg Newsome II on season-ending injured reserve? Likewise, Patterson, in his fourth-year out of Memphis, is an enthusiastic member of the mutual admiration society. “To be clear, Dustin is the man,” Patterson said. “He’s awesome. I’m a huge fan of him. You guys all know him. Dustin’s awesome. I was here last year with him. I mean, he let me stay at his place. He’s awesome. But I’ve just been a big fan of his in general. And I’ve also, everywhere that I’ve been, I haven’t been the only kicker on the roster. So I’m very well aware of how these situations work. So there’s a good way to do it and not a good way to do it. And between me and him, it will be awesome. So we’ll just get better together. The fact that Patterson, in his third year out of Memphis, showed up on the doorstep at all this week is at least a mild surprise. After Hopkins missed two more kicks during Sunday’s 27-14 loss to the Steelers, Kevin Stefanski stated emphatically twice, “He’s our kicker.” He doubled down on that sentiment on Monday, saying, “we’ll get through it together. He’s a veteran. He’s been through a lot in his career already and this is something we’ll continue to work through.” On Tuesday, the Browns brought Patterson in for a tryout, and signed him to the practice squad that afternoon to possibly be available to kick Sunday against the Chiefs. On Wednesday, Stefanski explained the thinking process for bringing in Patterson, 25, and didn’t guarantee that Hopkins will kick vs. the Chiefs. “A guy that we know was in here last year,” Stefanski said. “We’ll work through all those types of decisions this week. Don’t have a final decision. Dustin’s our kicker, but we’ll work through all that.” Might Hopkins benefit from a break after missing 6 of his last 9 kicks to fall to 16 of 25 (64%) on the season? Last season, he made 33 of 36 field goals and set the Browns record for most in a season. He also went a remarkable 8-for-8 from 50 plus. The performance was stellar, the Brown signed him to a three-year extension through 2027 worth $5.3 million a year, making the fifth-highest paid kicker in the NFL at the time. He’s currently tied for 8th. “It’s all those things we need to just work through,” Stefanski said. “And like I told you guys the other day, Dustin’s a guy that I trust. He’s a veteran that has been through a lot in his career and he will work through this. We’ll work through this one together.” Patterson, signed by the Vikings as an undrafted rookie out of Memphis in 2021, has appeared in 40 career games with the Lions (2021 and 2023), Jaguars (2022), Browns (2023) and Jets (2024). He’s made 59 of 67 field goal attempts and 96 of 100 PATs. This season, he played one game for the Jets against the Texans, making all three of his extra point attempts. “You’re always preparing to make every kick that you’re asked to go out there for, whether it’s practice or games,” he said. “I have no idea, but my job is to be ready for anything, and if they pull me up, they do. If they don’t, then they don’t. So I’m just thankful to be here. I’ll be ready to go if they need me to do for anything. So that’s my position on it.” Hopkins, deeply religious, isn’t kicking himself while he’s down. “If I didn’t have my identity in the Lord and it was wrapped up in just who I was as a football player, when something like this would happen, your whole life crumbles,” he said. “As opposed to this being a storm that I’m weathering, and I’m not acting like it’s an easy thing, but at the same time, my whole world is not crumbling. It’s something that I’m navigating, that you’re pushing through, and that you’re drawing strength from the most important thing.” Stories by Mary Kay Cabot How will the Browns handle their kicking situation this week? Orange and Brown Talk He vowed to keep working to be the best version of himself, including trying to find a swing thought that will shake him out of the slump. “Even when something really, quite frankly, sucky is going on in your life, you can trust that it’s for your good,” he said. “And it might just mean building character and perseverance, a number of things that are working on me as a man. It doesn’t guarantee success on the field or anything else you’re trying to pursue in life, but you can draw strength in knowing that, ‘hey, I’ll be better off on the back end of this than I am right now.’” Hopkins’ close friend Jameis Winston, who goes all the way back to Florida State with him, noted that Hopkins’ wife, Gabrielle, has been back home taking care of their autistic son, Wake, and their infant son by herself and that it’s been tough on the family. “We had a great talk on Thanksgiving because it’s been challenging for Dustin because his family hasn’t been able to be with him because his amazing wife has been taking care of Wake and their youngest son back home,” Winston said. “So Dustin is a family man, and I think in terms of his schedule, in terms of his preparation, he requires to have his loved ones around him. That’s how he functions. So I know that has been definitely challenging him, but he also knows that the responsibility that he has in this building. “So I just continue to lift him up and continue to encourage him, ‘Hey, man, look who you’re doing in for. You are strong and courageous. You are an amazing human being, so don’t focus on what you’re lacking.’ And right now he’s lacking that love and affection from his family. ‘Just focus on what you have, man. And I know I can’t give to you what your wife can give to you, but, man, I love you and I’m going to be there for you regardless of the circumstances.’” Hopkins has tried to keep his slump in perspective. “People’s jobs and careers are important, so I’m not trying to discount not only my own, but anybody’s job or career,” he said. “It’s an important part of our life. But we shouldn’t be crushed when something isn’t going our way, knowing that know 20 years from now, my family is not going to care about my stat line from when I played ball back in the day. I still want to excel at this game, and that’s part of the job and I want to do well, and it sucks not doing well. But at the same time, I just reflect on what’s important.” He might even have a new temporary roommate again to help him through the rough patch. Under the auspices of Metalor Technologies SA and Swiss Better Gold (SBG), the Chamber of Bullion Traders Ghana (CBTG) held a meeting with the aforementioned organizations in Nauchatel (Switzerland) couple of days ago to brainstorm on how to achieve Sustainable Responsible Mining in Ghana. Readers will recall that Switzerland had banned Small Scale gold imports from Ghana due to illegal and irresponsible mining practices since 2013. It is on the back of the Swiss ban and several other considerations that the CBTG thought it wise to put up a determined and relentless fight as major stakeholders in the sector to reverse this very disturbing and dangerous trend by formulating guide lines to curb the menace. The Chamber’s objectives in this regard have always been to ensure reclamation and re-vegetation of mined out areas with the collaboration of off-takers of gold from Small Scale Mining activities. Also, to engage in theoretical and practical training of miners based on the Organization for Economic Corporation and Development (OECD) and the London Bullion Marketing Association (LBMA) Standards in the area of Mining, Processing, Proper Disposal of Waste as well as Health and Safety. The Chamber is also of the view that setting up of Central Processing Plants (CPPs) in major mining centers with attached tailing dams to recirculate waste water without allowing it to flow into the surrounding environment is paramount. It is also advocating for the introduction of the Tributary system for the Small Scale Miners with the Large Scale Mines who would directly make available their expertise to supervise their mining activities. These were the main objectives and solutions as canvassed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Daniel Krampah and the Director of Research Mr. Henry Osei of CBTG at the meeting. On the part of the CEO of Metalor Technologies SA, Mr. Antoine de Montmollin indicated that taking the decision not to accept gold from both Ghana and South America in 2013 and 2019 respectively based on irresponsible mining was not an easy decision. He said, the pressure from the press and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) which was brought to bear on the refineries to deal with only responsible miners/gold were enormous and therefore Metalor had to protect its image and hard earned reputation. However, Mr. de Montmollin stated that as much as it is important for Metalor to keep a good image, withdrawing or abstaining does not solve the problem either. “It’s easy to say I have washed my hands off, you manage it yourselves but that is not a solution. As we have said earlier that if we can find a good partner or partnership with imdustry players in the field who can ensure that proper/responsible things are done... why not?”. Mr. de Montmollin opined. Again, the CEO of Metalor assured the CBTG saying that they (Metalor) don’t have the means to go to the field but if they have a strong partner in the Chamber, they can collaborate in bringing sanity into Small Scale Mining. The CEO of Swiss Better Gold Madam Diana Culillas addressing the meeting indicated that her organization has leveraged about $15m on impact premium in 2024 alone and about $7m out of that has been reinvested into social and environmental projects. Swiss Better Gold is an NGO with about 30 supporting members. Its core mandate is advocacy for Sustainable and Responsible Small Scale Mining across the globe. Madam Culillas stated that they have done some work in Columbia, Peru, Bolivia and now their radar is on Africa especially Ghana and Tanzania. She said, they have already done some technical feasibility work which indicates that there is room for Swiss Better Gold in both Ghana and Tanzania and therefore all things being equal they may resume work in both countries in February next year. In a separate meeting between the CBTG and representatives from Switzerland Ministry of Economic Affairs, the narrative and the drive for responsible mining was not different from the Chamber’s earlier engagements. The Swiss Ministry of Economic Affairs were also in tune with the Chamber and indicated they were going to confer or compare notes from the Chamber’s meeting with Metalor and Swiss Better Gold and get back to the Chamber.InsurTech Market to Grow by USD 77.41 Billion (2024-2028), Driven by Business Efficiency Needs and AI Impacting Market Trends - Technavio

Police reforms must be inclusiveStock market today: S&P 500 ends at record high as November jobs data fuels investor optimism

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks rose to records Friday after data suggested the job market remains solid enough to keep the economy going, but not so strong that it raises immediate worries about inflation . The S&P 500 climbed 0.2%, just enough top the all-time high set on Wednesday, as it closed a third straight winning week in what looks to be one of its best years since the 2000 dot-com bust. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 123.19 points, or 0.3%, while the Nasdaq composite rose 0.8% to set its own record. The quiet trading came after the latest jobs report came in mixed enough to strengthen traders’ expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates again at its next meeting in two weeks. The report showed U.S. employers hired more workers than expected last month, but it also said the unemployment rate unexpectedly ticked up to 4.2% from 4.1%. “This print doesn’t kill the holiday spirit and the Fed remains on track to deliver a cut in December,” according to Lindsay Rosner, head of multi-sector investing within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The Fed has been easing its main interest rate from a two-decade high since September to offer more help for the slowing job market, after bringing inflation nearly all the way down to its 2% target. Lower interest rates can ease the brakes off the economy, but they can also offer more fuel for inflation. Expectations for a series of cuts from the Fed have been a major reason the S&P 500 has set an all-time high 57 times so far this year. And the Fed is part of a global surge: 62 central banks have lowered rates in the past three months, the most since 2020, according to Michael Hartnett and other strategists at Bank of America. Still, the jobs report may have included some notes of caution for Fed officials underneath the surface. Scott Wren, senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, pointed to average wages for workers last month, which were a touch stronger than economists expected. While that’s good news for workers who would always like to make more, it could keep upward pressure on inflation. “This report tells the Fed that they still need to be careful as sticky housing/shelter/wage data shows that it won’t be easy to engineer meaningfully lower inflation from here in the nearer term,” Wren said. So, while traders are betting on an 85% probability the Fed will ease its main rate in two weeks, they’re much less certain about how many more cuts it will deliver next year, according to data from CME Group. For now, the hope is that the job market can help U.S. shoppers continue to spend and keep the U.S. economy out of a recession that had earlier seemed inevitable after the Fed began hiking interest rates swiftly to crush inflation. Several retailers offered encouragement after delivering better-than-expected results for the latest quarter. Ulta Beauty rallied 9% after topping expectations for both profit and revenue. The opening of new stores helped boost its revenue, and it raised the bottom end of its forecasted range for sales over this full year. Lululemon stretched 15.9% higher following its own profit report. It said stronger sales outside the United States helped it in particular, and its earnings topped analysts’ expectations. Retailers overall have been offering mixed signals on how resilient U.S. shoppers can remain amid the slowing job market and still-high prices. Target gave a dour forecast for the holiday shopping season, for example, while Walmart gave a much more encouraging outlook. A report on Friday suggested sentiment among U.S. consumers may be improving more than economists expected. The preliminary reading from the University of Michigan’s survey hit its highest level in seven months. The survey found a surge in buying for some products as consumers tried to get ahead of possible increases in price due to higher tariffs that President-elect Donald Trump has threatened. In tech, Hewlett Packard Enterprise jumped 10.6% for one of the S&P 500’s larger gains after reporting stronger profit and revenue than expected. Tech stocks were some of the market’s strongest this week, as Salesforce and other big companies talked up how much of a boost they’re getting from the artificial-intelligence boom. All told, the S&P 500 rose 15.16 points to 6,090.27. The Dow dipped 123.19 to 44,642.52, and the Nasdaq composite climbed 159.05 to 19,859.77. In the bond market, the yield on the 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 4.15% from 4.18% late Thursday. In stock markets abroad, France’s CAC 40 rose 1.3% after French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to stay in office until the end of his term and to name a new prime minister within days. Earlier this week, far-right and left-wing lawmakers approved a no-confidence motion due to budget disputes, forcing Prime Minister Michel Barnier and his cabinet to resign. In Asia, stock indexes were mixed. They rallied 1.6% in Hong Kong and 1% in Shanghai ahead of an annual economic policy meeting scheduled for next week. South Korea’s Kospi dropped 0.6% as South Korea’s ruling party chief showed support for suspending the constitutional powers of President Yoon Suk Yeol after he declared martial law and then revoked that earlier this week. Yoon is facing calls to resign and may be impeached. Bitcoin was sitting near $101,500 after briefly bursting above $103,000 to a record the day before. A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., ruled on Friday that an upcoming ban on TikTok can proceed unless parent company ByteDance divests from Chinese government ownership. The company argued that the impending ban violates its free speech rights, but the court ruled that the Department of Justice’s argument that the viral video company’s foreign ownership represents a national security threat trumps any free speech concerns. “Here the Government acted solely to protect that freedom from a foreign adversary nation,” wrote Judge Douglas Ginsburg on behalf of the three-judge panel who made the determination. The legislation mandating the change in TikTok’s ownership was signed into law by President Joe Biden in April, following the passage of legislation that had bipartisan support from Republicans and Democrats in Congress. More than 170 million people have TikTok accounts within the United States, according to CEO Shou Chew . Donald Trump will ultimately decide on TikTok’s survival in the U.S. After he is sworn in as president on Jan. 20, he will have the power to direct the Department of Justice’s next step. Trump promised while campaigning for the presidency that he would “save TikTok.” That was a significant (but typical) reversal for Trump, who signed an executive order in 2020 labeling the social media platform a “threat.” In that order, Trump said that TikTok’s collection of user data “threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information—potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage.” Trump has a poor record of delivering on promises like this. According to a PolitiFact analysis of Trump promises made during the 2016 election, over his time in office Trump broke 53% of his promises and only kept 23% of them, with 22% of his promises reaching a compromise solution. Additionally, Trump has demonstrated open hostility to any media platforms that criticize him or report negative but factual information. For instance, he has threatened to pull the broadcast licenses of media outlets that told the truth about him. While there are many pro-Trump accounts on TikTok, the site is also a widely disseminated source of anti-Trump mockery and derision. For instance, one account that went viral over the past year compared Trump’s frequent public diatribes to the whining of a teenage girl. Will the success of “Trump Was Born To Be A Teenage Girl” end up being the roadblock to Trump sticking to his vow to protect the service? That remains to be seen. Campaign Action

Marvel Rivals is quickly ramping up in player count on both the PC and console side, but given that it is a shooter game, there will be one big question. Does Marvel Rivals have crossplay, and if so, is there specific crossplay between Xbox and PS5? Does Marvel Rivals have crossplay? In short, Marvel Rivals has crossplay between PC and consoles. It should be on by default when you first boot up the game. To ensure that crossplay is on, follow these steps: Click settings (the gear wheel on the top right of the screen). Select “Settings” Find the Social tab. Look for the “Social” section and check “CROSS-PLATFORM”. Make sure the check mark is on. Once that’s set, you can now toggle this feature on and off on the Play page in the main menu. Does Marvel Rivals have crossplay between Xbox and PS5? Marvel Rivals does have crossplay between just the consoles. In a similar fashion to Overwatch 2 , this game has console-only matchmaking and full crossplay. This is a toggleable feature before you start a match once you have the crossplay stuff enabled in your settings. Before you start a game, you can choose to be console only or not. If you choose for consoles only, then you will only be placed with people on Xbox or PS5. Unless you have crossplay off entirely, you’ll only be matched with those on your same exact platform. For matchmaking times, it’s best to expand to everything. In the grand scheme of things, you can still get challenges done, have faster match times, and have no limitations to heroes. Does Marvel Rivals have crossplay ranked? When it comes to Ranked matchmaking, Marvel Rivals takes an approach like Overwatch 2 . You can only play this mode with people on the same platform pool as you . This means that if you have friends on PC as a console player or vice-versa, you can only stick to Quick Match, Conquest, Custom games, and Practice vs. AI modes. The matchmaking pools will be a bit limited due to the balance of the game. Since the time to kill (TTK) is a bit high and would favor players on PC, there’d be an unfair advantage when it comes to modes that would take skill into consideration. A Gold-ranked lobby on PC will play vastly different than one on consoles. Controller stick limitations compared to how fast players on PC can look around will make character balance difficult too.Jamie plots his political future while his siblings discuss the future of the Dutton ranch in a new episode of “ Yellowstone ” Season 5 Part 2 on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 8/7c on Paramount Network . Streaming giant Netflix Inc NFLX is set to release the highly anticipated second season of "Squid Game" and the show's director and star are sharing details ahead of the Dec. 26 premiere. What Happened: Launched in 2021, "Squid Game" is the biggest series in Netflix history and turned into a pop culture phenomenon. A second season hits the streaming platform on Dec. 26 and will be seven episodes, which is shorter than the nine in the first season. Returning for the second season is the winner of the game in the first season, Seong Gi-hun (aka Player 456), portrayed on screen by Lee Jung-jae. Director and writer Hwang Dong-Hyuk also returns for the second season. The second season features new characters and revolves around Gi-hun, who returns to the game three years after the competition to search for the people behind it and shut the game down for good, as reported by Deadline . Characters competing for the prize this time include a former cryptocurrency influencer who loses a large amount of money for his subscribers and himself. The crypto influencer becomes a fugitive before joining the Squid Game competition, according to the report. Another one of the 400-plus contestants in the games is a woman who made bad investments following the advice of the same cryptocurrency influencer taking part in the games. In the interview with Deadline, Director Hwang as he is known said there is "greater scale" to the second season and new games for the contestants. "The games are one of the biggest changes as well as the characters because, except for Gi-Hun, all of the characters that play the games are new so you're going to be able to see more endearing characters that you end up rooting for," Hwang said. Hwang said Gi-Hun's revenge factor is a key message in the second season, but humanity's quest for making the world a better place could be a bigger theme. "Does humanity have what it takes to change the course of the world, and can we truly let go of our greed, our desires in order to create a better world together?" The director said the series is also somewhat political given the current state of the world being divided. "There are so many things that divide us today, whether it's race, religion, language, the haves and the have nots, the generational divisions, and recently, with the very important vote that you have this week, we look at the political division, the left against the right, the conservatives against the progressives, Hwang said speaking days before the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The director was asked about the report that director David Fincher is working on an English-language version of "Squid Game" and said he doesn't know anything official about this, but respects the director's work. "I like his films so if he does, I'm excited and I'll look forward to it."
