An Ohio politician has seen enough flag planting by visiting sports teams. Republican state Rep. Josh Williams said Wednesday on social media he’s introducing a bill to make flag planting in sports a felony in the state. His proposal comes after the Nov. 30 fight at the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry football game when the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes 13-10 and then attempted to plant their flag at midfield. A fight ensued and police had to use pepper spray to disperse the players. Similar flag-planting scuffles broke out across college football on that rivalry weekend. Williams is calling it the O.H.I.O Sportsmanship Act. “Behavior that incites violent brawls and puts our law enforcement officers in danger has no place on the football field,” Williams said. Former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield famously planted a flag in the middle of the field at Ohio State after the Sooners beat the Buckeyes in 2017. Mayfield, who now plays for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said he doesn’t think flag planting is a big deal. “I’ll say this: OU-Texas does it every time they play,” Mayfield said on Dec. 1. “It’s not anything special. You take your ‘L’ and you move on. I’ll leave it at that.” ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . A double from Erling Haaland – the first from the penalty spot – and a deflected effort from Ilkay Gundogan, all in the space of nine minutes either side of the break, looked to have ensured a return to winning ways. Yet Guardiola was left with his head in hands as Feyenoord roared back in the last 15 minutes with goals from Anis Hadj Moussa, Sergio Gimenez and David Hancko, two of them after Josko Gvardiol errors. City almost snatched a late winner when Jack Grealish hit the woodwork but there was no masking another dispiriting result. It was hardly the preparation City wanted for Sunday’s crunch trip to Liverpool, and the Feyenoord fans took great delight in rubbing that fact in. They sung the club anthem they share with Liverpool, You’ll Never Walk Alone, and chanted the name of their former manager Arne Slot, the current Reds boss. Guardiola arrived at the ground with a cut on the bridge of his nose and, once again, his side have been struck a nasty blow. Despite not being at their best, they had dominated early on against what seemed limited Dutch opposition. They threatened when a Gundogan shot was deflected wide and Haaland then went close to opening the scoring when he turned a header onto the post. Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther gifted City another chance when he passed straight to Bernardo Silva but Grealish’s fierce volley struck team-mate Phil Foden. Foden forced a save from Wellenreuther but City had a moment of alarm when Igor Paixao got behind the defence only to shoot tamely at Ederson. Nathan Ake missed the target with a header but some luck finally went City’s way just before the break when Quinten Timber, brother of Arsenal’s Jurrien, was harshly adjudged to have fouled Haaland. The Norwegian rammed home the resulting spot-kick and City returned re-energised for the second period. They won a corner when a Matheus Nunes shot was turned behind and Gundogan fired the hosts’ second – albeit with aid of a deflection – with a firm volley from the edge of the box. City turned up the heat and claimed their third soon after as Gundogan released Nunes with a long ball and his low cross was turned into the net by a sliding Haaland. 44' ⚽️ Man City 1-0 Feyenoord50' ⚽️ Man City 2-0 Feyenoord53' ⚽️ Man City 3-0 Feyenoord75' ⚽️ Man City 3-1 Feyenoord82' ⚽️ Man City 3-2 Feyenoord89' ⚽️ Man City 3-3 Feyenoord 🤯🤯🤯 #UCL — UEFA Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) November 26, 2024 It seemed City were heading for a morale-lifting victory but a couple of Gvardiol errors changed the script. The Croatian, who had a torrid time in Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham, first horribly misplaced a backpass and allowed Moussa to nip in and round Ederson. Ordinarily that 75th-minute reply would have been a mere consolation and City would close out the game, but Gvardiol had another moment to forget eight minutes from time. Again he gave the ball away and Feyenoord pounced. The ball was lofted into the box and Jordan Lotomba fired a shot that glanced the post and deflected across goal, where Gimenez chested in. Ederson then blundered as he raced out of his area and was beaten by Paixao, who crossed for Hancko to head into an empty net. Amid some moments of unrest in the crowd, when objects were thrown, City tried to rally in stoppage time. Grealish had an effort deflected onto the bar but the hosts had to settle for a draw.

Ange Postecoglou has castigated Timo Werner ’s first-half performance for Tottenham Hotspur against Rangers as “not acceptable” after taking him off at half-time. Werner started at Ibrox but made no impact on the game, lost the ball repeatedly, and was withdrawn for Dejan Kulusevski at the interval. Kulusevski went on to score the second-half equaliser. Advertisement Postecoglou was brutally honest about Werner’s performance in his post-match press conference, saying that was not “anywhere near” the expected level. Postecoglou revealed he told Werner what he thought of his performance, and that he was especially disappointed given Spurs’ reliance on teenagers Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall . “He wasn’t playing anywhere near the level he should,” Postecoglou said, when asked why he had withdrawn Werner at the break. When asked whether he needed more from the Germany international, Postecoglou agreed. “When you’ve got 18-year-olds, it’s not acceptable to me,” he said. “I said that to Timo. He’s a senior international, he’s a Germany international. In the moment we’re in right now, it’s not like we’ve got many options. I need everyone to at least be going out there trying to give the best of themselves. His performance in the first half wasn’t acceptable.” Spurs currently have Richarlison and Wilson Odobert out with hamstring injuries and Mikey Moore out with illness, leaving them short on attacking options. Werner has only scored once this season and has not made an impact in recent weeks. “It’s not really of great concern,” Postecoglou said when asked to explain Werner’s poor performance. “We need everybody including him to be contributing. Because we don’t have the depth to leave people out if they’re performing poorly. We need them to play their part. Especially the senior guys. When I’m asking younger guys to do massive jobs. I expect a level of performance from some of the senior guys. And today wasn’t that.” Postecoglou has traditionally defended his players in public even after poor performances. This criticism of Werner was most critical Postecoglou has ever been of one of his Spurs players. Postecoglou’s side are now five games without a win and the point leaves them ninth in the Europa League table, just outside the top eight who qualify for the last 16 without needing to go through a playoff round. Tottenham are next in action against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday. They are 11th in the table, three points behind 10th-placed Fulham . 2,000 Lucknow University students get tabs under Digishakti planVestdavit has boosted davit manufacturing capacity by 60-70% through expansion of its production plant in Poland with a new assembly hall that will enable the leading Norwegian supplier to meet growing demand from its core naval and offshore energy markets for advanced boat-handling systems. The state-of-the-art 1000 square-metre facility, recently opened at the Vestdavit Production site at Redzikowo in northern Poland, will greatly enhance the efficiency of the davit fabrication process by eliminating an assembly bottleneck to increase annual throughput to around 100 units, while allowing construction of larger davits and bolstering innovation, according to the company. “We expect to achieve efficiency gains of at least 10% through this significant investment, while also creating jobs as a responsible citizen to boost local employment after increasing the workforce at the factory from 65 to 85 in recent years,” says Vestdavit Managing Director Rolf Andreas Wigand. Importantly, he points out, construction of the assembly hall means that Vestdavit has become a fully integrated davit supplier with engineering, procurement, production and quality control consolidated at a single manufacturing hub. Design, administrative and sales support is also instantly available from the Norway head office via a newly upgraded ERP system that enables real-time data-sharing. Vestdavit Managing Director Rolf Andreas Wigand is looking to further expand davit production based on market optimism. Photo: Steve Marshall/Blue-C “This enables us to control every part of the value chain throughout the davit production process. Consequently, we can streamline the workflow and optimise fabrication to accelerate deliveries of sophisticated bespoke davit systems for our clients within demanding schedules, as well as budget and quality parameters, through time savings of 20-30%,” Wigand explains. In practice, this means immediate availability of diverse davit components from a storage and logistics depot in the adjacent main building that was formerly used for assembly work prior to construction of the dedicated assembly hall. Vestdavit can tap an efficient local supplier network to source items such as steel structures and components, as well as services like machining and painting. The main building also houses offices, welding area, machining room and tool storage area, while the close proximity to production teams under one roof facilitates efficient interaction among personnel to tackle any issues during the manufacturing process, which is supported by advanced automation technology. The new facility enables faster turnaround on orders through parallel assembly of multiple davits to boost productivity, as is the case with several PLAR-6501 units currently under construction for shipbuilder Austal Australia for vessels on order with the Royal Australian Navy. The new assembly hall at Vestdavit Production in Poland. Photo: Vestdavit Furthermore, the spacious hall with a high ceiling to accommodate large cranes allows fabrication of much larger boat-handling systems, such as docking-head davits favoured by the offshore wind industry for deployment of large workboats for turbine maintenance. “As well as providing greater production flexibility, the new facility allows room for more innovation to expand product development in accordance with client specifications. There is a great benefit from being able to produce everything internally given the increasing complexity of davit projects,” Wigand says. There are also davit testing facilities at the extensive 2.6-hectare (26,000 square-metre) site, acquired by Vestdavit in early 2020, which is located within the Slupsk special economic zone in the Pomerangia region of northern Poland. Vestdavit has adopted the innovative augmented reality solution xAssist that allows remote inspection, testing and verification of equipment, with digital goggles used by workers at the factory to transmit visuals for viewing on the Teams meeting application, which was a boon with travel challenges during the earlier Covid-19 pandemic. This is part of a push by the company to increase application of digital solutions throughout the davit development process to improve production efficiency, while customer relations management has been enhanced with a web-based system to interact with clients to optimise productivity from design to delivery. But Wigand emphasises that the “extremely competent workforce represents our greatest asset and most important resource” at Vestdavit Production, with a strong contingent of female employees reinforcing the company’s policy of gender diversity. Davit testing at Vestdavit Production. Photo: Vestdavit “Our production team in Poland, including warehouse workers, fitters and assemblers as well as administrative staff, has a high level of expertise with a strong commitment to quality and sustainability underpinned by ISO certification that ensures safety and environmental responsibility,” he says, adding the company also has a good working relationship with the local authorities, banks and partners. Vestdavit is focused on upskilling opportunities for its Polish team to improve their technical capabilities and problem-solving skills, while also providing apprenticeships for new recruits in areas such as hydraulic pipelaying. The combination of a well-trained and highly skilled workforce with a more efficient production facility has given Vestdavit an enhanced capability to roll out rush orders, as well as quickly turn around repeat orders for standardised designs, according to Wigand. “With this additional capacity, we have the ability to produce everything in our orderbook now and in the foreseeable future,” he says, after the company boosted orders by 76% last year to hit a sales record due largely to increased activity in offshore wind. But he does not rule out further expansion of Vestdavit Production and its workforce based on the company’s optimism over further exponential sales growth in its main markets going forward. “With another 3000 square metres available for additional construction at the site, we have the possibility of doubling the size of the production plant,” he says. Randy Martin SmithMinutes after the University of North Carolina announced it had hired Bill Belichick as its next head football coach, the Tar Heels’ Instagram account posted a photo of the legendary NFL coach — at no more than 3 years old — sitting in the UNC bleachers. “Welcome home, Coach,” the post reads , dredging up the memory of when the young Belichick shadowed his father, Steve, who was a UNC assistant from 1953 to 1955. As news of his hiring spread around the NFL world, the reaction ranged from excitement at seeing him back on the sideline to disbelief. The most decorated coach in NFL history after earning six Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots, and two more as the defensive coordinator with the New York Giants, Belichick is officially making his next challenge college football after agreeing to a five-year deal with UNC. “I will have to see him on the sideline to believe that’s happening,” Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury joked Thursday. “We’ll see how the NFL job search goes and all that. I will have to see him on the sideline coaching in Chapel Hill to believe that’s happening." While Belichick’s knowledge of the sport, and his success, are unquestioned, there has been debate among those who have played for the 72-year-old coach during his 40-plus years in football about how well his style will translate to the college game. Some of his former players believe his skill set will work at any level. That list apparently includes Tom Brady, the quarterback during all six of Belichick’s Super Bowl wins with New England. “Congrats, coach. The Tar Heel way is about to become a thing,” Brady posted on Instagram on Thursday, referencing “The Patriot Way” that he popularized in New England. Some cautioned that the players he brings into the UNC program should prepare to have their limits tested like never before. “I think he’s going to do good,” said Patriots receiver Kendrick Bourne, who played under Belichick during his final three years in New England. “Bill does a good job of developing players, developing young men. I think it will be a challenge for the young man. He’s a tough coach, which we all know. But I think it will be good for certain players that have the right mindset.” Bourne's advice? Always stay locked in mentally. “Just stay tough,” Bourne said. “Have a gritty mindset because it’s not going to be easy, but in the end, it’s going to be worth it." Though some have questioned why the Tar Heels would even consider hiring Belichick after parting ways with 73-year-old Mack Brown this season, current Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said good coaching is ageless. “To me, it doesn’t matter if you’re a young man or a 10-year vet in the league, he’s a great teacher,” said Mayo, who played eight seasons under Belichick, winning a Super Bowl during the 2014 season, and then succeeded him as head coach after last season. "I wish him nothing but the best. It doesn’t really matter what level, I think he’ll be successful.” NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders is a relative newcomer to the college game himself. He spent three seasons at Jackson State before going to Colorado in 2023. In a message posted to the X social media platform, he welcomed Belichick as a competitor. “Coach Bill Belichick is a coaches coach to all us Coaches along with my man coach (NIck) Saban,” Sanders posted. “They’re game changers and they know how to move people forward. I know this is a great thing for College Football & for North Carolina. God bless u Coach, if you’re happy I am 2.” But former Patriots defensive back Je’Rod Cherry wonders how well Belichick’s old-school coaching style will be received in an era in which in-your-face methods don't always fly as well as they did when Belichick began his career. “You can’t coach hard anymore,” Cherry said during an appearance on ESPN GameNight. “You can’t yell at guys, curse at guys and that’s what he does. You are going to have to find guys who are going to accept that brand of coaching and will accept someone constantly getting on them." New York Jets safety Jalen Mills, who played for Belichick with the Patriots from 2021 to 2023, said he was surprised by the news. “I thought he definitely was going to try to wait it out until after the season and come back to the NFL,” Mills said. "But I think it’s gonna be a good thing for him because now you get a guy who has won and, of course, he’s going to try to turn that program around. But he also gets to connect with the younger generation and kind of modify and adjust to this younger generation of football on top of what he already knows. So I think that’ll just help him as far as coaching. And then, of course, he’ll give those guys, those young guys, structure as far as what the NFL looks like, too.” Just how much the Belichick on the college sidelines will resemble the one in the cutoff hooded sweatshirt who patrolled NFL sidelines is unclear. Belichick hinted they will be one and the same. During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN prior to agreeing to the UNC job, Belichick laid out what his approach at the college level would be. “The program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players than have the ability to play in the NFL,” Belichick said. “It would be a professional program — training, nutrition, scheme, coaching, techniques — that would transfer to the NFL. It would be an NFL program at a college level.” AP National Writer Howard Fendrich and Pro Football Writer Dennis Waszak contributed to this report. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Social media is expected to further influence customer service and retail spaces during 2025. New survey insights (2,000 U.S. and U.K. consumers) reveal how users expect to engage with social media in 2025 . Across all users, approximately even amounts (29-34 percent) plan to use Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok more in 2025, while 24 percent of respondents do not plan to use any social networks more in 2025. When it comes to trust in social media, 63 percent of users somewhat trust social media networks to protect their personal data. Only 22 percent completely trust social media networks, and 16 percent do not trust them at all. Complete trust is higher among Gen Z and Millennials (28 percent and 29 percent) than among Gen X and Baby Boomers (19 percent and 10 percent). Specific to what brands should prioritize on social media in 2025, most respondents say personalized customer service (40 percent) or selling products directly through social platforms (29 percent) are important to them. Sprout Social’s CMO, Scott Morris has shared insights with Digital Journal what to expect and how marketing leaders can stay ahead. Prediction #1: Dominance In 2025, social media will dominate the customer service game. Everyone, especially younger generations, is turning to platforms like Facebook and Instagram first to get their customer service questions answered quickly. And the expectation for speed and personalization has never been higher. In fact, Sprout Social’s most recent Index report shows that 69 percent of people expect a response within 24 hours of reaching out on social media, and 70 percent expect those responses to be personalized. To meet these rising expectations, brands will have to learn to strike a balance between automation and human touch, dispersing AI to handle routine inquiries while leaving customer care teams to focus on complex issues. Prediction #2: Platforms remaining on top Social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok will be the top shopping destinations for consumers in 2025. People’s plans for the holiday shopping season are evidence of that. Sprout Social’s Q4 2024 Pulse Survey found that 42 percent of shoppers plan to use social media more to find gifts, with social influencer recommendations being the #1 source of gift inspiration across all respondents, up from the fifth source one year ago. That same survey found that 32 percent of consumers plan to make more purchases directly through social channels in 2025, giving brands the opportunity to use social media to facilitate a complete customer journey, from discovery to post-purchase. With this influx of buyers, AI-driven customer care will play a critical role, offering real-time responses and tailored product recommendations to enhance customer experience. MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City's players were booed by their own fans Tuesday after blowing a three-goal lead against Feyenoord in the Champions League to extend their winless run to six games. Jeers rang around the Etihad Stadium after the final whistle of a dramatic 3-3 draw. After five-straight losses in all competitions, City looked to be cruising to victory after going three up inside 50 minutes. But Feyenoord mounted an improbable comeback and leveled the game in the 89th minute to leave the home crowd stunned. While the worst losing streak of Guardiola’s managerial career was brought to an end, his wait for a first win since Oct. 26 goes on. Erling Haaland had scored twice, with Ilkay Gundogan also on target to put City in control. But goals from Anis Hadj Moussa in the 75th, Santiago Gimenez in the 82nd and David Hancko in the 89th turned the game on its head. City's players, including Bernardo Silva, Josko Gvardiol and Haaland looked visibly frustrated as they left the field to cheers of the delirious traveling Dutch fans in the away section of the stadium. City plays Premier League leader Liverpool on Sunday — defeat would leave it 11 points adrift of its title rival.
