Fans have declared the movie - which stars the voices of J.K. Simmons, Rashida Jones, and Norm McDonald - an 'unexpected' Christmas classic. The animated film takes place in the fictional island village of Smeerensburg, sharing the 'origin' story of Santa. It told the story of a spoiled young postman called Jesper who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a local toymaker and recluse named Klaus before they team up to help bring joy to a town torn apart by a family feud. The film even outranked Christmas classic Love Actually, which was rated 21 out of 61. Netflix has become known for its variety of Christmas movies, including the popular Princess Switch tribology, and the 2024 addition, Hot Frosty. A Murderville Murder Mystery (2022) which starred Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph, and Feast of the Seven Fishes (2019). 'Klaus is destined to be a new holiday classic,' a fan declared. GameStop: Fiscal Q3 Earnings SnapshotReal Madrid's big stars turned on the style to revive the Spanish giant's faltering Champions League title defense on Tuesday. Galacticos Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham all scored in a thrilling 3-2 win at Italian league leader Atalanta. But Madrid still had to ride its luck as Mateo Retegui fired over from in front of goal in stoppage time when handed a golden chance to level the game. It was only Madrid's third win in the competition's revamped league phase and leaves the 15-time champion in the unseeded playoff positions in 18th place. Mbappe was substituted off before halftime with an apparent physical issue. Six-time champion Liverpool leads the way after maintaining its perfect record in Europe this season with a 1-0 win against Girona. Like Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain also picked up a much-needed win, beating Salzburg 3-0 to sit in the last playoff spot in 24th place. Bayer Leverkusen is second after a 1-0 win over Inter Milan, while Aston Villa beat Leipzig 3-2 and is third. Brest is one of this season's surprise packages on its Champions League debut and is fifth after beating PSV Eindhoven 1-0. Mohamed Salah’s 50th Champions League goal maintained Liverpool’s perfect record in the competition this season. The Egypt forward struck a 63rd minute penalty to seal the win in Spain that kept Liverpool atop the 36-team league. But even after a sixth straight win for the Merseyside club, head coach Arne Slot was critical of his players in a game that saw goalkeeper Alisson pull off several saves to keep Girona out. “If you ask me about all the six games, I’m really pleased with all the results, I am really pleased with the five (other) games with the way we played. I’m far from pleased about the performance tonight,” he said. Salah’s goal was his 16th in 22 appearances overall this season. Girona was 30th with just one win from six games. “I almost feel sorry for them because they deserved so much more in this Champions League campaign than the three points they have until now. But we have an incredible goalkeeper,” Slot said. Even after Slot’s criticism, Liverpool continued its outstanding start to the campaign, which also led it the top of the Premier League. Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek handed Salah the chance to fire the visitors ahead with a clumsy tackle from behind on Luis Diaz in the box. Salah stepped up to convert the penalty and Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga went the wrong way. Liverpool’s two remaining games are against Lille at home and PSV Eindhoven away in January. U.S. international Christian Pulisic is the only player to have scored against Liverpool in this season’s Champions League in a 3-1 loss for Milan in September. Bayern Munich routed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 to move into the automatic qualifying positions for the round of 16. Michael Olise scored twice as Bayern came back from going 1-0 down inside five minutes to a goal from Brazilian winger Kevin. Sporting Lisbon couldn’t build on taking a third-minute lead at Club Brugge — losing 2-1 in Belgium. Dinamo Zagreb drew 0-0 with Celtic and both teams remain in the playoff positions. SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Spencer Knight made 20 saves, Mackie Samoskevich scored with less than a second left in the second period, and the Florida Panthers got four goals in the third to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-0 on Saturday and complete a two-day sweep. Aleksander Barkov, Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad, Evan Rodrigues and Adam Boqvist also scored for Florida, which won 6-3 at Carolina on Friday. The Panthers have won three straight — that streak following a stretch of six losses in seven games for the Stanley Cup champions. It was Knight's fourth career shutout, his first since Nov. 9, 2022 — also at home against Carolina. Spencer Martin made 23 saves on 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped four of their last six games (2-3-1). It was Martin's fourth consecutive start for Carolina. Hurricanes: This was the first time all season that the Hurricanes failed to get a point in the game immediately following a loss. Carolina was 4-0-1 after a defeat entering Saturday. Panthers: A big day for Samoskevich — his alma mater Michigan beat Ohio State in football on Saturday, that game ending just before the Florida-Carolina game started. The Panthers are 5-0-0 when he scores this season. Sam Reinhart had each of the four most recent Florida goals at 19:59, before Samoskevich got his Saturday. The Panthers scored two goals 11 seconds apart in the third to make it 5-0, and Yaniv Perets replaced Martin in the Hurricanes' net with 8:12 remaining. It was the second NHL appearance for Perets, who came on once in relief for Carolina last season. Ekblad's goal was his first in a span of 1,045 regular-season shifts since Feb. 20. Carolina starts a two-game homestand Tuesday against Seattle. Florida goes to Pittsburgh to start a two-game trip on Tuesday. American fans of long-distance airline travel may soon have a new option to look out for when booking their tickets. The airline industry news site The Air Current reports that the Federal Aviation Administration has given its approval to the Airbus A321XLR, a plane capable of some of the longest commercial trips in the world. Airbus confirmed the news to Quartz, noting that the approval came in October but was not made public by the FAA until last week. The version that was approved features LEAP 1-A engines manufactured by France’s CFM International. Another version featuring engines by Pratt & Whitney is still awaiting sign-off. The FAA did not immediately reply to Quartz’s request for comment on the development. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency, the European equivalent of the FAA, gave its approval to the model in July. The “XLR” in the plane’s name stands for “extra long range,” because it can fly up to 4,700 nautical miles (or about 5,400 land miles) instead of the 4,000 nautical mile-range of the A321LR (“long range”) version . The plane is capable of that because it has fuel tanks that are spread along its body, which allows it to take on more fuel. The A320 family of planes to which the A321XLR belongs competes broadly with Boeing’s 737 Max planes. Both are so-called “narrow body” jets that have one aisle—instead of multiple aisles like a Boeing 787 or one of the Airbus A330 variants—and are lauded for their fuel efficiency. The Points Guy called the A321XLR a plane that could “revolutionize” long-distance air travel after taking a trip on it during a flight operated by Spain’s Iberia Airlines. FAA approval means that U.S. carriers can start taking deliveries as well. The airline news site View from the Wing reported in August that an executive from American Airlines responded to a X social media platform photo of an in-production American-liveried A321XLR by posting “.” 📬 Sign up for the Daily Brief Our free, fast, and fun briefing on the global economy, delivered every weekday morning.
TWIN FALLS — College of Southern Idaho men's basketball head coach Jeff Reinert told the Times-News on Nov. 22 that freshman Amarco Doyle would commit to a four-year school before the year ends. A little over two weeks later, Reinert's prediction came true. The 6-foot-7 Queensland, Australia, native announced his commitment to NCAA Division I Oakland University on his Instagram account Sunday. He also had an offer from Weber State. Doyle has made an instant impact for the No. 16 Golden Eagles (9-2 overall). He averages 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, which are second on the team. It took time for College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball freshman Amarco Doyle to adjust to the United States. Doyle is the third Golden Eagle to find a home at the next level, joining Isaac Hawkins (Utah Valley) and Tanner Hayhurst (Southern Utah). College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball standouts Isaac Hawkins and Tanner Hayhurst will go from roommates to conference rivals in less than a year. Doyle was initially slated to play for NCAA Division II Seattle Pacific University this season, but had his amateurism certificate denied because he repeated 11th grade. At the time he thought he lost a year of eligibility, but Doyle told the Times-News in November that schools interested in him are working to try to make sure he has three years of eligibility remaining. Oakland made national headlines in the 2023-24 season when it earned a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament and upset No. 3 seed Kentucky in the first round. The Grizzlies then fell to No. 11 seed North Carolina State, who pulled off a Cinderella run of its own to the Final Four, in the second round. Head coach Greg Kampe is in his 41st season leading the program and has 703 wins over that time period. Helios Technologies officer sells $215,920 in common stockMichelle Goth There is always that one dish on the Thanksgiving table – overlooked while the mashed potatoes and gravy steal the spotlight. Surprisingly, this much-maligned side dish has been a part of American tradition for centuries and holds endless possibilities beyond its original purpose, perfectly suited to be reinvented in unexpected ways. Despite its deep roots in Thanksgiving history, this dish remains one of the most polarizing items on the table today. What is this least popular Thanksgiving dish? Cranberry sauce. Cranberry sauce has been part of American cuisine for centuries. Native Americans used cranberries in cooking and medicine, and early European settlers followed suit, incorporating the berries into sauces and preserves. By the 19th century, cranberry sauce became a Thanksgiving tradition, although recipes varied by region. The introduction of canned cranberry sauce in the 20th century made it even more popular, cementing its spot as an expected accompaniment for Thanksgiving turkey on tables across the country. Those who do enjoy cranberry sauce probably have a strong opinion about what form is acceptable. Some people prefer canned cranberry sauce for its nostalgic jiggle, while others insist that fresh, homemade cranberry sauce is the only way to go. Homemade whole berry sauce is the top choice for many, with its texture and flavor offering something truly special. A 2021 survey by the grocery delivery service Instacart found that cranberry sauce is the least favorite Thanksgiving dish, with 29% of American adults saying they hate it and nearly 50% calling it disgusting. This makes cranberry sauce the most polarizing and the most disliked dish on the Thanksgiving table. Even though it ranks as the least favorite dish, omitting cranberry sauce from the holiday meal is still considered a bit of a Thanksgiving faux pas . Regardless of what kind of cranberry sauce graces the table, its lack of popularity guarantees leftovers. But do not let those leftovers go to waste; there are plenty of creative and delicious ways to use cranberry sauce beyond the Thanksgiving table. Leftover cranberry sauce? There is no need to despair. Here are some fun, delicious and inventive ways to give those leftovers a new purpose. Cranberry grilled cheese Cranberry sauce is the perfect addition to a grilled cheese sandwich. Layer sharp cheddar or brie cheese, turkey leftovers and a spoonful of cranberry sauce between two slices of sourdough bread. The tart cranberry cuts through the richness of the cheese for a perfectly balanced bite. To feed a crowd, consider making a casserole dish of turkey cranberry sliders with leftover sauce and turkey meat. Cranberry vinaigrette To make a simple salad dressing, grab a mason jar and add a tablespoon of leftover cranberry sauce. Pour in a splash of white balsamic vinegar and an equal portion of olive oil. Add pinches of fresh herbs, salt and pepper. Secure the lid, shake well and drizzle the zesty cranberry vinaigrette over an autumn salad with lettuce, gorgonzola cheese, pecans and dried cranberries. Cranberry BBQ sauce For an easy homemade barbecue sauce, mix leftover cranberry sauce with ketchup or chili sauce, a dash of hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce, and a bit of brown sugar. The result is a tangy barbecue sauce that pairs beautifully with cocktail meatballs , roasted chicken or pork chops. Guests will never guess that the base of your homemade barbecue sauce was the leftover cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving. Cranberry yogurt parfait For a quick breakfast or snack, layer cranberry sauce with vanilla Greek yogurt and granola for a simple yet elegant autumn parfait. The sweetness of the granola and the tanginess of the cranberry sauce make for a great flavor balance. For bonus points, add a drizzle of maple syrup and pecans. Cocktail mixer Yes, cranberry sauce can be used in cocktails. To make a festive drink, shake a generous spoonful of cranberry sauce with vodka, a splash of orange juice and a squeeze of simple syrup. Add ice and a fresh rosemary sprig, and the result is a tart, refreshing cocktail perfect for the holiday season. While it continues to be viewed as a traditional holiday dish by most Americans, an emerging trend shows chefs, food bloggers and home cooks finding new ways to incorporate cranberry sauce into various recipes throughout the year. Cranberry sauce may never steal the spotlight during Thanksgiving dinner, where traditional dishes like mashed potatoes, buttery rolls and pies often take center stage. However, its creative uses can elevate it as a standout ingredient in the days that follow. As Thanksgiving cleanup commences and a bowl of leftover sauce remains, there is no need to worry. Barnwell gearing up for biggest test of season against Clinton in Class AA title gameArticle content Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservative Premier Tim Houston make an unlikely duo. Recommended Videos But when these two political adversaries do work together, they can make history, Case in point, their remarkable joint effort to blast the once-mighty Liberal Party of Nova Scotia into the depths of political oblivion, a feat that culminated in Houston’s super-majority re-election victory. For this, the two leaders can share the credit – Houston much more happily so. During the campaign, the Premier struck a delicate balance in highlighting progress on what had been achieved, showing humility about the work still to be done, and projecting ambition to tackle the challenges ahead. Acknowledging that Nova Scotia’s healthcare system – the key focus of his first campaign – was improving, Houston resisted the urge to declare “mission accomplished,” opting instead for a humble-brag approach. He also rolled out new health initiatives, demonstrating the job isn’t finished. But Houston’s team knew this election couldn’t be a repeat of the last. Reflecting the lived experience of voters, the Tories elevated affordability alongside healthcare as a top priority, championing tax cuts, pledging to cut red tape in housing construction, and raising the minimum wage. By tackling affordability head-on while demonstrating steady progress on healthcare, Houston defused potential attacks and denied his opponents the chance to weaponize his signature issue from the last campaign. To communicate his message, Houston leveraged social media to demonstrate a clear understanding of voters’ struggles – showing them he not only heard their concerns but was ready to act on them. The Premier’s knack for action, paired with his pragmatism, has always been his political secret sauce. Hence the slogan, Make it Happen. But victory has many authors, and it is undeniable that Trudeau’s catastrophic unpopularity contributed greatly to creating the conditions required for Houston’s victory – and a near-death experience for Nova Scotia’s Liberal Party. It’s Trudeau’s failure – or refusal – to reset the national Liberal brand that has left its provincial counterparts so vulnerable to savvy center-right politicians like Houston. Houston successfully persuaded voters that the affordability challenges facing his province were a direct result of Trudeau’s policies and that by refusing to abandon his signature carbon tax, the Prime Minister was punishing Nova Scotians. In Trudeau, Nova Scotians didn’t just see a problem – they saw a villain. Frankly, Nova Scotia voters didn’t need to bother learning the name of the provincial Liberal leader – and many didn’t. They already had all the motivation they needed to head to the ballot box – his federal boss, Justin Trudeau. Of course, Houston benefited greatly from national Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s relentless effort to expose the real-life impact of Trudeau’s policies. Better than anyone, Poilievre has ably connected the dots between the carbon tax and Canada’s cost-of-living crisis, framing it as both an economic burden and a symbol of Trudeau’s disconnect from Canadians. Thanks in large part to Poilievre, the carbon tax is political poison – a poison that Houston’s campaign happily served their Liberal opponents. As a result, the Liberal Party of Nova Scotia has become the latest casualty of Justin Trudeau. Now, warning signs are flashing for Liberals nationwide, especially in Ontario. The political climate in Canada’s largest province mirrors Nova Scotia’s in key ways – and Ontario Liberals should be worried. The Nova Scotia experience shows just how hard it is for Liberals to decouple themselves from Trudeau’s toxic brand. Houston’s victory is part of a growing national shift. Canadians are embracing a Conservative movement focused on action and real-world solutions. The question isn’t whether Liberals will suffer greater losses – it’s whether their party will survive after Poilievre finally gets his hands on it. – Chad Bowie is a Nova Scotia native and the Founder and Principal of the Bowie Group, a communications and marketing firm that provided services to the PC Party of Nova Scotia during the recent election campaignAncient tablet carved with Ten Commandments set for auctionBalchem Corporation Announces Dividend

Australia has defended the independence of the top international court after it issued arrest warrants for Israel's prime minister, former defence minister and a Hamas commander. Login or signup to continue reading The International Criminal Court (ICC) found there were reasonable grounds that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant bore criminal responsibility for alleged war crimes. This includes allegations of using starvation as a method of warfare and directing attacks against civilians in Gaza. The warrants are not a finding of guilt. The ICC rejected Israel's challenge that it didn't have jurisdiction over the matter. Australia respects the independence of the ICC and its "important role in upholding international law", Foreign Minister Penny Wong said. "We have been clear that all parties to the conflict must comply with international humanitarian law," she said in a statement on X. Senator Wong reiterated calls for civilians to be protected, hostages to be released, aid workers to be protected and for more humanitarian aid to flow. Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie said it was troubling that the court had targeted "an elected member of a democracy, of a sovereign nation-state, trying to protect his country from terrorists". The ICC ruled it had jurisdiction to investigate the situation in Palestinian territories and that states couldn't challenge the jurisdiction prior to a warrant being issued, "thus Israel's challenge is premature". Senior coalition figures have repudiated the court's argument it has jurisdiction, arguing Australia's position should be in line with the United States, which rejected the ruling. "They're supposed to be working with nation states and their legal systems, not seeking to supplant them," Senator McKenzie said of the ICC. "We would be looking to obviously stand with the United States on this issue." However, the US isn't an ICC member state - while Australia is - and Washington previously welcomed a warrant issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin for atrocities in Ukraine. Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the European Commission foreign affairs representative Josep Borrell said they would comply with the ruling. An arrest warrant was also issued for Hamas' military wing commander Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri for the crimes against humanity of murder, extermination, torture, and rape and other forms of sexual violence. There were reasonable grounds to believe he was also responsible for the war crimes of murder, cruel treatment, torture, taking hostages, outrages upon personal dignity, and rape and other forms of sexual violence, the court found. The decision by the independent court showed international humanitarian law needed to be upheld through fair and impartial judicial processes in all circumstances, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said. "Our collective mind and focus should be on the victims of international crimes in Israel and in the State of Palestine," he said in a statement after the warrants were issued . Arrest warrants for the leader of Hamas in Gaza and the former head of its political bureau were withdrawn following confirmation of their deaths. The official death toll in Gaza has eclipsed 44,000, according to the local health ministry, with tens of thousands more missing or believed to be buried under rubble. Israel's war in Gaza was sparked by listed terror group Hamas' attack on October 7, 2023 that killed 1200 people and resulted in 250 hostages being taken, according to Israel's tallies. Almost 100 hostages are still missing, with 35 believed to be dead. Australian Associated Press DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. Also includes evening update. It doesn’t seem like that long ago United Conservative Party (UCP) cabinet ministers, MLAs and political aides were getting in to all kinds of hot water for their holiday travel. Who can forget Tracy Allard, booted from her job as municipal affairs minister for her mid-pandemic Hawaiian holiday? Or the controversies in 2021 stirred up by vacation jet-setters Tanya Fir (Vegas), Jeremy Nixon (Hawaii), Pat Rehn (Mexico), Jason Stephan (Arizona), and Tany Yao (Mexico)? Well, that was then and this is now. Different premier, too. These days, of course, COVID-19 may still be around, but if anyone’s paying attention it’s not evident, and UCP MLAs are travelling all over the place. One thing has changed, though – we the people, as they say south of the 49 th Parallel, are picking up the tab for these junkets. According to a news release Friday, Justice Minister Mickey Amery and Technology and Innovation Minister Nate Glubish were scheduled to jet off on Saturday to the United Arab Emirates for a week “promoting Alberta as an AI hub.” Well that sounds important, although just what any of the goings on in the dusty desert city of Dubai, home to the world’s tallest building, have to do with the administration of justice in Alberta remains an interesting question. The answer proffered by Amery in the press release was not particularly convincing: “This mission will provide us with an excellent opportunity to gain insights about advancements in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, and to explore how these innovations might be applied to our own work in the Alberta justice system.” Hmmm. Facial recognition software, anyone? The UCP’s pro-convoy base should just love that! The week-long junket will see Glubish address the Global AI Show on Friday the 13 th , according to the presser, although the details of the engagement were left a little fuzzy by the author of the statement. Amery and Glubish will be accompanied by four staffers. The UCP must have been impressed with the quality of the accommodations in Dubai a year ago during the COP28 United Nations climate change conference . According to the CBC on Friday, yet another Alberta delegation will be heading to Dubai early in the New Year to “attract skilled workers who live temporarily in the UAE.” That sounds strange for a government that can’t stop assailing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for Ottawa’s immigration policies. It’s almost as if one day we’re closed and the next day we’re wide open. Depends on who’s doing the asking, I guess. Meanwhile, according to another release on Friday, a couple more “Alberta MLAs will participate in year-end tours that will play an important role in cementing ties they have been building with partners in the U.S. this past year, while setting the stage for even greater cooperation heading into 2025.” Cypress-Medicine Hat UCP MLA Justin Wright will be off to Colorado Springs, Colo., tomorrow, to take part in the Council of State Governments Western Legislative Academy in Colorado Springs, “for training and consensus building.” The five-day event, according to the news release, is a “ premier multi-day legislative leadership training program.” But not in the Canadian sense of that word, obviously. The Big Brains of the UCP may have missed it that we have a different system of government, even here in Wild Rose Country, although perhaps for not much longer if the next president of the United States gets his way . Why the United States would accept Canada as a huge state – the biggest state! bigger than Texas, even! where almost everyone outside Alberta and Saskatchewan would vote for the Democratic Party presidential candidate – is not clear when Washington pulls the strings of our federal government anyway. But no one ever said Donald Trump was a deep thinker. But I digress. That Westminster Parliamentary system thing is probably why Alberta is only an associate member of the CSG. Meanwhile, the release continued, Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt will fly to Austin, Texas, from December 12 to 14 to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Leaders’ Symposium. The December 12-14 trip should be a useful learning opportunity for Pitt, who not so long ago publicly mused about how Alberta should become a fully autonomous province like South Tyrol, the German-speaking Italian province that didn’t get rolled into the German Reich along with next-door Austria in 1938 because the leaders of Germany and Italy at the time were somewhat simpatico, ideologically speaking. While she’s in the Texas capital, Pitt might ask what happened in 1861 when several U.S. states entertained similar ideas about autonomy. That said, I’m sure Pitt will be welcomed warmly – Texans and Canadians seem quite simpatico too, possibly because they both live in places that were once countries independent of the United States. She will be surprised to learn, though, that Austin is more liberal than Edmonton. This may explain its branding: “ Keep Austin Weird .” Meanwhile, don’t try to ask Premier Danielle Smith about this.
