a little more jinho rothy
a little more jinho rothy Several times following New England’s 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said he wanted to review the game film before making a final assessment of his team’s performance. He did, and on Monday he said the overarching feeling he was left with was one of pride. Going toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the NFL is commendable. Mayo also remains confident this group has even more room for growth over its final two games this season. “To be frank, I don’t believe in good losses,” Mayo said. “I think there’s a lot to learn from the game. Look, we’re headed in the right direction, but it’s all about consistency, and we have to do that on a down-after-down, a game-after-game basis to be successful in this league.” What is also clear is that despite their 3-12 record, Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye wants people to know that he and his teammates believe in their coach. No matter what conversations might be going on outside the Patriots locker room regarding shortcomings by the coaching staff, or Mayo’s job status. “We’ve got his back, and he’s coached us hard. He wants to win. We all want to win. We’re all frustrated,” Maye said. “We’re just plays away, and it’s basically me turning the ball over. I think it’s just a testament to these guys that keep fighting. We keep fighting. Shoot, we’re not going to make the playoffs; we’re out of the race, and these guys are coming in, frustrated when we don’t score. ... So, I think we’re building something good, building something that feels right here, and I’m proud to be a Patriot.” What’s working The Patriots entered the week scoring only 7.5 points per game in the first half this season, which ranked 29th in the NFL. The offense woke up with 14 points in the first half on Sunday, notching multiple offensive touchdowns in the first half for the first time in 2024. What needs help Stopping the run has been an issue for New England’s defense for most of the season and it was on display against the Bills. With Buffalo trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, running back James Cook sliced through the interior of the Patriots defense and broke free for a 46-yard TD run. It was a big chunk of Buffalo’s 172 yards on the ground for the game. Stock up CB Jonathan Jones. He was tasked with being the primary defender on Buffalo’s top receiver Khalil Shakir for most of the game. The veteran held his own, helping limit the Bills’ leader in catches and receiving yards to only two catches for 22 yards on six targets. Jones also forced a fumble by Shakir in the fourth quarter, though Shakir was able to recover it. Stock down Marte Mapu. The linebacker started at safety with Jabrill Peppers sidelined with a hamstring injury. Mapu was strong for most of the game and had a chance to set up the Patriots offense in the second quarter when he snagged his second career interception, picking off Josh Allen’s pass in the end zone. But Mapu decided to run the ball out of the end zone and was tackled on the New England 1-yard line. The poor starting field position eventually led to a punt and the Patriots couldn’t add to their 14-7 lead. Injuries The Patriots didn’t announce any injuries during the game. But along with Peppers, cornerback Marcus Jones also sat out with a hip injury. Key number 2-6 — The Patriots’ record in one-score games this season. Four of those have been by three or fewer points. Next steps The Patriots host the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl Kyle Hightower, The Associated PressGhanaian Actor, John Dumelo Wins Ayawaso West ConstituencyA thin layer of smog enveloped Mumbai and the air quality in the metropolitan city was recorded in the 'moderate' category on Monday morning. According to the Central Pollution Control Board , the city recorded an AQI of 112, as of 9.00 am this morning. AN AQI under the "moderate" category generally means the air quality is acceptable, but there may be a slight health concern for a very small number of sensitive individuals. For most people, air quality at this level doesn't pose significant risks, but those with respiratory issues, such as asthma or allergies, may experience mild symptoms. Judge says lawsuit over former NFL player Glenn Foster Jr.'s jail death can proceedIndian Embassy in Damascus has been open since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime amidst the political turbulence in Syria. The Indian embassy in Damascus has been in touch with all Indians currently in Syria. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the embassy remained fully functional during the ongoing political upheaval in Syria. Indian Embassy Assures Safety The MEA has assured that the embassy is actively working to assist Indian citizens in this hour of uncertainty. A spokesperson from the ministry said, “Our Embassy continues to remain operational in Damascus, Syria. The embassy is in touch with all Indian nationals, and they are safe. The embassy remains available to assist Indian nationals in Syria.” This assurance has brought a feeling of security to Indians amidst the escalating crisis. Collapse Of Assad’s Regime Sparks Unrest The dramatic fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government has thrown Syria into chaos. The fall of the regime, once deemed impossible, was brought about by a rapid offensive led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a militant group previously known as the Al-Nusra Front. This shift has left a power vacuum, with the political landscape in the country now fragile and uncertain. Now that the regime of Assad is collapsing, rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani , otherwise known as Ahmed al-Sharaa, has formed a transitional government. Nevertheless, serious questions have been brought about by HTS’s dark history of extremism concerning whether it can actually hold the country together and function amid such a fractured and war-ravaged landscape. Foreign players like Russia, Iran, Turkey, and Israel make it even more complicated in further pursuit of their strategic interests. The Indian government has stressed its commitment to closely watching the situation in Syria. Indian citizens have been cautioned to stay in touch with the embassy for support and information. If Hurts can’t play, the Eagles would turn to backup Kenny Pickett — who suffered a rib injury and couldn’t protect a big lead in a 36-33 loss to Washington — with third-stringer Tanner McKee on deck. The Eagles (12-3) need to win one more game over the final two to clinch an NFC East title and one of the conference’s top two seeds. Coach Nick Sirianni gave no additional health update on Hurts but did say the QB who led the Eagles to 10 straight wins before he was forced out with the head injury wouldn’t need much time this week to get ready against the Cowboys, if he was cleared. “Jalen knows how to prepare,” Sirianni said. “He knows how to get himself ready. He’s a true pro.” The Eagles are 9 1/2-point favorites over the division rival Cowboys (7-8), per BetMGM Sportsbook. Sirianni said the Eagles would lean on the medical staff on a daily basis to know where Hurts — who threw two touchdown passes and ran for a pair of scores in the first meeting against Dallas in November — was in his recovery from the head injury. RELATED COVERAGE Steelers WR George Pickens returns to practice, hopeful to play against Chiefs Bills offense is ‘Cooking,’ with running game adding a powerful new dimension Heavy ground game gives Anthony Richardson a chance to shine in Colts’ latest victory Hurts was ruled out early at Washington after his head slammed against the ground on one run and he was hit in the helmet by Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu at the end of another. “He’s always done a good job of protecting himself both as a passer and a runner,” Sirianni said. “Any time you lose one of your best players, you wish they’d do something else or not take that hit.” Hurts shook off a sluggish start over the first four games and has thrown 18 touchdowns against just five interceptions to turn the Eagles into Super Bowl contenders. “Every time there’s a player out,” Sirianni said, “there’s an adjustment to be made.” What’s working Saquon Barkley and the running game. Barkley was held to 41 yards after the first quarter but 150 yards is 150 yards and he still has a shot at NFL history. Barkley leads the NFL with 1,838 yards rushing and is 268 yards away from passing Eric Dickerson and his 2,105 yards for the Los Angeles Rams in 1984 for the season mark. Barkley is 162 yards shy of becoming the ninth player in NFL history with 2,000 yards rushing in a season. What needs help Backup QB. Pickett was 14 of 24 for 143 yards in relief, throwing a touchdown pass to A.J. Brown and an interception. Pickett played his first meaningful football in a year. The Eagles use McKee as the emergency QB, but the sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft could be in the mix if Hurts sat out against Dallas. Pickett is from New Jersey and said when he was acquired from Pittsburgh that he had “great memories” of going to games at Lincoln Financial Field with his dad and grandfather since he was 5. The chance to run out of the home team tunnel — which he could get Sunday if he’s the starting QB — left him absolutely delighted. Pickett, a first-round pick out of Pitt in 2022, went 14-10 as a starter for the Steelers. “I was impressed by Pickett, honestly,” Washington coach Dan Quinn said Monday. “I thought he threw the ball with good accuracy to the right spots. He’s a nice athlete (who can) move, so I can see why they would want him in that system. I thought he got outside and had good scramble ability. Wasn’t surprised they didn’t run the sneaks to go through that.” Stock up Zack Baun. The linebacker barely caused a ripple on the transactions wire in March but has been arguably the MVP of the defense. He forced a fumble in the third quarter that set up a score, one of five turnovers for the Eagles. He also had two tackles for losses. Stock down The No. 1 seed. The Eagles all but cost themselves a shot at the top spot in the NFC and a bye with the late-game collapse in Washington. The Eagles will clinch the division with a victory over the Cowboys or Giants and most likely will finish with the No. 2 seed. They are one game behind both the Detroit Lions (13-2) and the Minnesota Vikings (13-2) in the NFC standings. Eagles fans can still chant, “We’re No. 1!” but it’s a long shot. To clinch the No. 1 seed, the Eagles need to beat Dallas and the Giants. And the Lions need to lose their last two games against San Francisco (6-9) and Minnesota. And the Vikings needs to lose to Green Bay (10-4) and beat the Lions in Week 18. Should the status quo remain, the Eagles would host Washington in a playoff game. Injuries Beyond Hurts, edge rusher Josh Sweat left with an ankle injury and defensive tackle Jordan Davis limped off in the second quarter. ... Pickett said he had his ribs X-rayed and would undergo further testing. Sirianni had no update Monday on Pickett’s condition. Key number 1,000 — Brown became the first Eagles receiver to top 1,000 yards in three straight seasons since Mike Quick from 1983-85. Next steps The Eagles can clinch the division and a home playoff game with two lightweights left on the schedule, both at home. The Eagles play Dallas on Sunday in a game bumped to a 1 p.m. kickoff and end the season against the New York Giants. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

WWE will perform on a stage next month that could be vastly larger than its current home on cable television when “Raw,” its weekly live show, makes its debut on Netflix. The sports entertainment company is moving to a platform with about 283 million subscribers worldwide as it departs its current home on the USA Network, which averaged 688,000 viewers in prime time last year, according to the Nielsen company. For Netflix, onboarding the WWE is part of a strategic move to air more live events on the heels of a hugely successful fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul that was viewed by more than 60 million people. “Raw” has been averaging about 1.5 million viewers on USA Network over the past month, according to Nielsen. WWE has produced thousands of episodes of “Raw,” since its debut in 1993, with star performers like Seth Rollins, CM Punk and Rhea Ripley. “Raw” and the media rights that come with it, had become a hot commodity before WWE reached a deal worth more than $5 billion with Netflix. In addition to a larger pool of potential viewers, moving to Netflix means the WWE won’t have to worry as much about curse words getting muted or potentially gory scenes or risque or obscene gestures being blurred. And as it has done throughout its history, WWE has promoted the shift to Netflix across different platforms as it seeks to expand its audience. During a Travis Scott concert last month, former professional wrestler and now WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque told attendees from the stage that one of the rapper’s song will be the new ”Raw” theme song, and that Scott will appear on the first episode on Netflix on January 6. WWE has consistently managed to put itself before new and sometimes massive audiences, including the Super Bowl. After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII two years ago, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and MVP Patrick Mahomes posted a photo of himself on Twitter holding the Vince Lombardi trophy in one hand, and a WWE belt in the other. Netflix sees huge potential in live entertainment in addition to its traditional lineup. “The contributor to growing engagement is going to be across the board on our scripted and unscripted, our documentary programming, all the kinds of things that people love, including now the addition of some live hours,” Netflix co-CEO Theodore Sarandos said after the company’s most recent quarterly earnings report. Aside from its deal with WWE, the company announced in May that it will stream two National Football League games globally on Christmas Day as part of a three-year deal with the league. That live programming will be an important part of Netflix’s strategy going forward, said JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth. “Netflix is increasingly focused on sports entertainment, events, and shoulder content and we expect a bigger push into live sports over time, particularly as negotiating leverage shifts in Netflix’s direction,” he wrote in an analyst note last month.NoneWASHINGTON — The House Ethics Committee on Monday accused Matt Gaetz of “regularly” paying for sex, including once with a 17-year-old girl, and purchasing and using illicit drugs as a member of Congress, as lawmakers released the conclusions of a nearly four-year investigation that helped sink his nomination for attorney general. The 37-page report by the bipartisan panel includes explicit details of sex-filled parties and vacations that Gaetz, now 42, took part in from 2017 to 2020 while the Republican represented Florida’s western Panhandle. Congressional investigators concluded that Gaetz violated multiple state laws related to sexual misconduct while in office, though not federal sex trafficking laws. They also found that Gaetz “knowingly and willfully sought to impede and obstruct” the committee’s work. “The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress,” the report said. Before the report came out, Gaetz denied any wrongdoing and criticized the committee’s process. “Giving funds to someone you are dating — that they didn’t ask for — and that isn’t ‘charged’ for sex is now prostitution?!?” he posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. “There is a reason they did this to me in a Christmas Eve-Eve report and not in a courtroom of any kind where I could present evidence and challenge witnesses.” Gaetz , who was first elected in 2017, spent the majority of his time in Washington enmeshed in scandals that ultimately derailed his selection by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Justice Department . Gaetz abruptly resigned from Congress last month. His political future is uncertain, although Gaetz has indicated interest in running for the open Senate seat in Florida. The committee painted a damning portrait of Gaetz’s conduct, using dozens of pages of exhibits, including text messages, financial records, travel receipts, checks and online payments, to document a party and drug-fueled lifestyle. The committee said it compiled the evidence after issuing 29 subpoenas for documents and testimony and contacting more than two dozen witnesses. In addition to soliciting prostitution, the report said Gaetz “accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging in connection with a 2018 trip to the Bahamas, in excess of permissible amounts.” That same year, investigators said, Gaetz arranged for a staffer to obtain a passport for a woman with whom he was sexually involved, falsely telling the State Department that she was his constituent. In some of the text exchanges made public, he appeared to be inviting various women to events, getaways or parties, and arranging airplane travel and lodging. At one point he asked one woman if she had a “cute black dress” to wear. There were also discussions of shipping goods. One of the exhibits was a text exchange that appeared to be between two of the women concerned about their cash flow and payments. In another, a person asked Gaetz for help to pay an educational expense. Regarding the 17-year-old girl, the report said there was no evidence Gaetz knew she was a minor when he had sex with her. The woman told the committee she did not tell Gaetz she was under 18 at the time and that he learned she was a minor more than a month after the party. But Gaetz stayed in touch with her after that and met up with her for “commercial sex” again less than six months after she turned 18, according to the committee. Florida law says it is a felony for a person 24 or older to have sex with a minor. The law does not allow a claim of ignorance or misrepresentation of a minor’s age as a defense. Joel Leppard, who represents two women who told the committee that Gaetz paid them for sex, said the findings “vindicate” the accounts of his clients and “demonstrate their credibility.” “We appreciate the Committee’s commitment to transparency in releasing this comprehensive report so the truth can be known,” Leppard said in a statement. At least one Republican joined all five Democrats on the committee earlier this month in voting to release the report despite initial opposition from GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, to publishing findings about a former member of Congress. While ethics reports have previously been released after a member’s resignation, it is extremely rare. On behalf of the Republicans who voted against making the report public, the committee chairman, Rep. Michael Guest of Mississippi, wrote that while the members did not challenge the findings, “we take great exception that the majority deviated from the Committee’s well-established standards,” to drop any investigation when a person is not longer a member of the chamber. Guest added that releasing this report sets a precedent that “is a dangerous departure with potentially catastrophic consequences.” But Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey, a Democratic member of the committee, said that for transparency, it was crucial for the public and Congress as an institution to read the findings. “I think that’s important for my colleagues here in the House to know how the committee reviews certain acts,” he told The Associated Press. “Some of these were obviously conduct that crossed the line, but some of them weren’t.” Mounting a last-ditch effort to halt the publication of the report, Gaetz filed a lawsuit Monday asking a federal court to intervene. He cited what he called “untruthful and defamatory information” that would “significantly damage” his “standing and reputation in the community.” Gaetz’s complaint argued that he was no longer under the committee’s jurisdiction because he had resigned from Congress. The often secretive, bipartisan committee has investigated claims against Gaetz since 2021. But its work became more urgent last month when Trump picked him shortly after the Nov. 5 election Day to be the nation’s top law enforcement officer. Gaetz resigned from Congress that same day, putting him outside the purview of the committee’s jurisdiction. But Democrats had pressed to make the report public even after Gaetz was no longer in the House and had withdrawn from consideration for Trump’s Cabinet. A vote on the House floor this month to force the report’s release failed; all but one Republican voted against it. The committee detailed its start-and-stop investigation over the past several years, which was halted for a time as the Justice Department conducted its own inquiry of Gaetz. Federal prosecutors never brought a case against him. Lawmakers said they asked the Justice Department for information about its investigation, but the agency refused to hand over information, saying it does not disclose information about investigations that do not result in charges. The committee then subpoenaed the department for records. After a back-and-forth between department officials and the committee, the department only handed over “publicly reported information about the testimony of a deceased individual,” according to the committee’s report. The report said Gaetz was “uncooperative” throughout the committee’s investigation. He provided “minimal documentation” in response to the committee’s requests, it said. “He also did not agree to a voluntary interview.” Associated Press writer Alanna Durkin Richer contributed to this report.

Simmons scores 18, Ayrault has double-double and No. 24 Michigan State women blast DePaul 89-61Sri Lanka finds itself at a pivotal moment as President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the country aims to complete its debt restructuring agreements by December 2024, with plans to resume loan repayments in 2028. The National People’s Power (NPP) Government has inherited an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that Ranil Wickremesinghe and his Government burdened the country with which is potentially deleterious. Within that context the timeline is ambitious to navigate the complex web of economic recovery, social protection, and political consolidation. Despite the serious shortcomings of these agreements, the Government needs to take calculated measures to stabilise the nation in pragmatic ways. Sri Lanka’s announcement inviting International Sovereign Bond (ISB) holders to exchange $ 12.55 billion of bonds for new instruments by 12 December 2024, marks a critical juncture in the ongoing debt crisis. This proposal stems from a hastily negotiated agreement finalised on 19 September 2024, by the previous Government. Viewed as a politically expedient pre-election manoeuvre, the agreement prioritised bondholders’ interests over those of the Sri Lankan people, jeopardising long-term debt sustainability and economic recovery. Sri Lanka’s sovereign default in 2022 was the culmination of decades of fiscal mismanagement under successive Governments. Reckless dollar borrowing, ineffective economic policies, rampant corruption and governance failures under presidents such as Mahinda Rajapaksa, Maithripala Sirisena, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and Ranil Wickremesinghe contributed to the crisis. These leaders also contributed to long term structural imbalances leading to balance of payments vulnerability which was aggravated (rather than corrected) by the embrace of neoliberalism since the late 1970s. The IMF-backed restructuring deal negotiated by an unelected interim government failed to prioritise the well-being of Sri Lanka’s citizens, instead entrenching external creditors’ interests and perpetuating fiscal vulnerability. The restructuring agreements devised by the previous administration were deeply flawed: The new Government faces unenviable choices regarding these current multilateral, bi-lateral and bondholder agreements. The main options open to the Government are: Given these constraints, the Government has limited options other than to agreeing to the existing agreements pragmatically – despite the risks involved. Approaching the agreement in this way buys critical time for the Government to stabilise its political footing and craft its first Budget. Adopting the current deal enables the Government to focus on key priorities, such as: The economy is a critical priority, demanding transformational change to achieve sustainable and equitable development. This entails readdressing the IMF program and redefining engagement with the global financial architecture. However, meaningful progress can only begin once the NPP leverages its strong political mandate to consolidate power and implement key institutional reforms. Sri Lanka’s recovery will require bold leadership, strategic vision, and a commitment to the well-being of its people. While the IMF and Bondholder agreements are far from ideal, they provide an imperfect foundation which the Government is compelled to build on. Long-term recovery depends on addressing systemic issues that perpetuate cycles of crisis: By implementing reforms to strengthen governance, improve public institutions, and foster economic self-reliance, the Government can mitigate some of the risks posed by the agreements. Prioritising import substitution, bolstering exports, and reducing dependency on volatile financial instruments will enhance economic resilience. The IMF must be held accountable if its flawed DSA continues to limit the Government’s ability to address Sri Lanka’s critical development needs and provide adequate social protections for its people. A sustainable recovery requires the IMF to adopt a framework that aligns with the realities of developing nations, emphasising the need for equitable fiscal space to promote growth and alleviate poverty. To achieve true sustainability, it is essential that Sri Lanka’s external debt stock will need to be reduced to a manageable level. This requires a genuine commitment from all stakeholders, including the IMF, to revisit and rectify the structural imbalances within the existing agreements. Without substantial debt reduction, Sri Lanka risks perpetuating a cycle of dependency and fiscal vulnerability, undermining its capacity to deliver essential services and build long-term resilience. The Government’s decision to proceed with the existing agreements represents a pragmatic compromise in a challenging environment. However, the success of this approach depends on collective resolve. Sri Lanka must rally behind its leaders, supporting transformative reforms that prioritise people over profits. While the path ahead is fraught with challenges, Sri Lanka’s new Government has an unprecedented opportunity to redefine the nation’s trajectory and mitigate risks posed by the unjust global economic order. By addressing structural flaws, implementing bold reforms, and uniting its people, Sri Lanka can emerge stronger, more equitable, and better equipped to navigate future challenges. In a staggering development, reports indicate that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's rule has effectively ended as rebels have taken control of Damascus and Homs. President Assad is said to have departed Damascus for an undisclosed location following a week-long military retreat that saw the capital and other strategic locations fall into rebel hands without notable army presence. The rapid succession of victories has left the Assad rule hanging by a thread, prompting surrounding Arab nations to issue a plea for political solutions amid fears of regional instability.
