SOURCE Truck Master WarrantyCLEVELAND, Ohio — Dorian Thompson-Robinson can’t get back on the field fast enough to shake off his two-pick performance in Sunday’s 24-6 loss to the Bengals. But will he be healthy enough to face the 7-8 Dolphins in a Week 16 matchup Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at Huntington Bank Field? After the Bengals game, Stefanski said Thompson-Robinson (calf) said Thompson-Robinson would start against the Dolphins if healthy “and he should be.” He doubled down on that Monday, saying he’s “hopeful, yes.” Thompson-Robinson (20 of 34, 157 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, 45.8 rating, 5 sacks, 9 rushes for 49 yards) aggravated the injury, one that had been bothering him for a few days, on the Browns’ opening drive, presumably his 8 yard scramble to the Cincy 2. He visited the medical tent after the drive, but jogged back to the bench shortly thereafter and never looked back. He gutted it out through a barren first half, losing 6 and 8 yards on runs, and 7 and 8 yard on sacks. By the end of the first half, the Browns had 0 net yards passing and a total of 86 net yards, with 66 of those coming on a blast by Jerome Ford on the opening play from scrimmage. But Thompson-Robinson, after some tough love from Jameis Winston at halftime, stormed out in the second half and put a touchdown on the board on his opening drive, a 4-yard run by Jerome Ford to cap an 11-play, 70-yard march. “He played through it the whole time, so give the kid credit for that because that happened on the first couple plays,” Kevin Stefanski said. “But like any injury, you just have to be careful and make sure that you treat it.” But Thompson-Robinson, who slipped to 1-3 as a starter with the loss, wasn’t about to go down easily, especially because these opportunities are few and far between. In fact, he’s using these starts to audition for the starting job in 2025. “ I’m playing in any and every game,” he said after the game. “Practicing every snap, every walkthrough, every meeting, I will be there in attendance, and I’ll have my full attention.” Question is, who will start if the Browns determine Thompson-Robinson can’t go? Bailey Zappe served as the No. 2 in Cincinnati and Jameis Winston as the inactive third QB with a sore right shoulder suffered in last week’s 21-7 loss to the Chiefs. Will Winston be ready to start or be the backup this game? “It’s probably premature to — we’ll work through that,” Stefanski said. “I say that just because I’ve got to see how Jameis comes through with his shoulder injury as well. So, we have to see how all of that shakes out this week.” In the event Zappe has to start, what has Stefanski seen in him since he was signed off the Chiefs practice squad as the Browns third-teamer in the wake of Deshaun Watson’s ruptured Achilles? “Bailey has done a nice job since he’s gotten here picking up the system,” Stefanski said. “I think he probably had the system down after about a day. Very intelligent. And there’s some similarities to what he was doing when he was in New England this summer. So really understands what we have to do. He’s done a nice job in practice, but we’ll see where this week takes us.” Given Thompson-Robinson’s calf injury and Winston’s sore shoulder, will the Browns instruct Thompson-Robinson to run, scramble, spin, hurdle and dive a little less against the Dolphins and their 8th-ranked pass defense? In addition to his 49 yards rushing, Thompson-Robinson had a 12-yard TD run wiped out by a holding call in the fourth quarter. “(We’ll) see how he progresses through this week and with this injury,” Stefanski said. “Like I said, he played the entire game with this injury, so we’ll just see how he progresses.” Of course, things will be a lot easier for Thompson-Robinson if he has tight end David Njoku and receiver Cedric Tillman at his disposal. Njoku (8 of 10 targets, 66 yards) suffered a knee injury during the game and underwent an MRI on Monday, the results of which weren’t yet available. He hasn’t been ruled out but his status is uncertain. Likewise for Tillman, who missed his fourth straight game with a concussion and is still in the protocol. In the meantime, the Browns will devise more ways to get Jerry Jeudy open if one or both of the other two targets can’t go. Jeudy, double-teamed most of the game, was targeted only three times, catching two for 20 yards. In seven games with Winston, he averaged more than 100 yards per game. “Certainly, it’s no secret that Jerry is a huge, huge part of our offense,” Stefanski said. “So, it goes without saying that we want him to touch the ball more.” Question is, who will be delivering it?
