These bundled services mimic cable and satellite service, in that they have hundreds of channels. The ease or complexity of the cord cutting experience depends on how you have things set up. Let’s take a look at some gift options for your favorite cord cutter. As far as I know DirecTV is the only streaming bundle service that offers its own hardware. The Gemini Air is a small dongle that plugs into an HDMI port on your TV. It is paired with a remote control to allow for easy navigation. If you were an AT&T U-Verse TV customer, the Gemini Air/DirecTV Stream experience will be very familiar. The Gemini Air is a rarity in that it has number buttons. DirecTV Stream has the option of turning on channel numbers in the guide. I’ve used DirecTV Stream with my Roku TV and with the Gemini Air and the Air makes navigating the huge list of channels much easier. The Gemini Air runs the Google operating system, so you can see and use all your other streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Max and more. You can also load apps and games from the Google Play store. The Gemini Air connects to your home’s Wi-Fi network, and it can stream 4K content to your TV. The remote control has a microphone so you can use your voice to search or interact with Hey Google’s voice assistant. DirecTV Stream customers can get a free Gemini Air from AT&T with their service. Additional units are available for $120. There are lots of smart TV brands. Some run on the Roku operating system, some run Google TV and some use their own brand of smart TV apps. If you’d like to add Google TV to any set, you can get Google’s new TV Streamer (4K) for just $99 from store.google.com. The small device connects to your TV’s HDMI port. It also can connect to your home’s internet via Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet connection. The Google TV interface is not tied to any specific streaming service. You can use any streaming service or app that’s available on the Google Play store. It features a simple remote with voice control and the Google TV Streamer is also a hub and controller for Matter and Thread home devices that work with Google’s home ecosystem. If you use an over-the-air antenna for watching your free local channels, I’m betting you’d like the option to record those channels. TiVo used to be the best/easiest way to record OTA TV, but they’ve discontinued their OTA recorders. A great alternative is from TabloTV, which is a small box that you connect to your TV antenna. The TabloTV does not directly connect to your TV. Instead it connects to your home’s Wi-Fi, and the antenna signal is wirelessly sent to any TV or compatible device in your home. Your TV picks up the signal through a free app, which is compatible with smart TV brands like Samsung, LG, Google TV, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV or Android TV. This method is extremely handy if you don’t want to be bothered running an antenna wire from your attic or roof all the way to your TV. It’s also great if you want to use an indoor antenna, but your TV is not situated in a room that faces the broadcast towers. You can place the antenna and TabloTV where you get the best reception. The TabloTV comes in two models – with either two or four tuners. This means you can record or watch two or four shows at a time. TabloTV has onboard storage to record up to 50 hours of shows, but you can plug in any USB hard drive and expand to record thousands of hours of programming. You can also bundle a TabloTV with an OTA antenna if you like, or you can use your own antenna. Two things to know, there are no ongoing subscription costs for guide data, and there is no streaming service integration. You will need another way to add in streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. TabloTV models start at $99.95 for the two tuner model at tablotv.com. The four-tuner model is $139.95, but they may be on sale during the holidays. ©2024 Tribune Content Agency, LLC.Quest Partners LLC grew its position in shares of Nutanix, Inc. While they might not be producing a wealth of offense, the Kings have been penurious defensively of late and will take that stinginess northward to San Jose for a matchup with the Sharks on Monday. They surrendered just one goal in each contest during their three-game homestand and no five-on-five markers, most recently restraining the Seattle Kraken in a 2-1 win. Seattle had won five of its past six games, whereas San Jose has dropped six of its past seven. David Rittich, who has made three straight starts since Darcy Kuemper sustained his second lower-body injury of the young campaign during a loss in Colorado, has posted six one-goal-allowed efforts in 11 starts, with five of those performances being wins. The sixth was a 1-0 loss to Buffalo on Wednesday, which coach Jim Hiller said he thought gave the Kings additional motivation against Seattle. “I think we played really well the last couple (games), but (against Seattle) we did something extra with obviously scoring goals, which gives us the opportunity to win,” Rittich said. Individual Kings had plenty of motivation, too. Their second-period power-play goal represented the first point in seven games for Kevin Fiala and the first goal in six for Quinton Byfield, as well as the first power-play goal by any King against a goalie in the past seven games. Byfield’s scoring woes have been longer-standing. Byfield said he’d like to better integrate the physical side of his game into his offense, but for now was pleased to have broken through, and with an authoritative snipe, no less. “It’s obviously tough. You do think about it, but you’ve got to stay positive. I’ve learned from the best, Kopi, all the time he’s just even keel,” said Byfield, referring to Kings captain Anze Kopitar. “I try to be happy, that’s just my personality. I don’t want to bring anyone else down around me. It always comes eventually, and hopefully it’ll pile up.” Saturday also marked Byfield’s 200th career game, and he joined seven other players who have crossed that threshold from his 2020 draft class. He accumulated those games across parts of five seasons, some of which saw him bounce between the NHL and AHL while he also battled serious injuries and illnesses. “It was tough. There was a lot of adversity and a lot of challenging moments in those 200 games,” Byfield said. There might not be a ton of adversity ahead for the Kings in San Jose, given that the Sharks remain in a half-decade-long rebuild still waiting to take off and have been mired in a funk lately, too. But the Kings managed to lose to them and another bottom-dweller, the Chicago Blackhawks, in the same week, and their 4-2 loss in San Jose on Oct. 29 featured an 0-for-6 display on the power play. Five days earlier, the Kings had beaten the Sharks, 3-2, in L.A. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft, Macklin Celebrini, did not compete in either meeting for San Jose. He’ll be healthy Monday and has scored seven points in 10 games, production spearheaded by three multi-point outings. Veteran Mikael Granlund’s 24 points are eight more than any other Shark has contributed this season.European markets set for negative open as traders await U.S. inflation dataNone
Oregon cornerback Jahlil Florence, a top cover guy who's been missing from the lineup since a knee injury against Washington last year, hinted at a return in a social media post yesterday afternoon. On X, Florence, a 6-1, 190 four-star defensive back from Lincoln High School in San Diego, posted a picture of himself leaping in the air and celebrating after a first-half interception against the Dawgs, but the hint was an icon of two cartoon alarm clocks in the upper left-hand corner, no caption. The implication was that the junior pass breakup artist is nearly ready to take the field. Florence started 9 games for the Ducks last year and finished with 27 tackles, an interception and a sack, a physical corner with a tackling grade of 76 from PFF. His potential return is huge for the Ducks in that if he is full-go for the Big Ten Championship, he gives the secondary an additional proven cover guy matching up with Ohio State's deep lineup of receivers. The Buckeyes boast Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate and Emeka Egbuka in their starting trio along with Brandon Inniss and Gee Scott, a group that's combined for over 2300 yards and 25 touchdowns this year, with Smith and Egbuka leading the way with 9 TD catches each. © Abigail Dollins / USA TODAY NETWORK Florence's return gives the Ducks a better chance of getting everyone covered. He's also a physical tackler who has the ability to come up in run support and make a tackle in space against Will Howard, Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson. If the doctors say he's ready to go along with Jordan Burch, Tez Johnson and Matthew Harper II, Oregon could be the most physically complete team entering the playoff, a timetable that defies the poor injury luck of their last championship run in 2014. That year they faced the Buckeyes without Devon Allen, Darren Carrington or Pharoah Brown. ⏰⏰.. pic.twitter.com/Ln0ynlDgb9Monopar Announces First Patient Dosed with its Novel Therapeutic Radiopharmaceutical MNPR-101-Lu

Former Police Commissioner Andrew Coster is the new Social Investment Secretary. He’ll oversee a multimillion-dollar fund advising the Government on commissioning services for vulnerable people. Coster sees his role as building a fence at the top of the cliff, describing a lot of policing as the “ambulance at the bottom of the cliff of social failure”. As a new era in policing unfolds under the watchful eye of a new commissioner , the country’s former top cop is relishing a chance to try to stop people ever embarking on a life of crime . Former Police Commissioner Andrew Coster has officially hung up his uniform, stepping into his new role as Social Investment Agency chief executive. He sees the role as much more than a so-called ambulance at the top of the cliff. “I don’t think it’s the ambulance, I think it’s the fence. Police spends a lot of its time at the bottom of the cliff of social failure. Social investment is about trying to get the settings right in order to avoid the need for that,” Coster said.Jihadist rebels took control of Hama, Syria , in another critical blow for the government of President Bashar Assad. After November's surprise blitz in Idlib, Syria, anti-government forces took Syria's second-largest city, Aleppo, almost without a fight. Assad's Syrian Arab Army withdrew south to Hama to consolidate its defensive lines, seemingly stabilizing the front around the strategic city. The forces of Hayat Tahrir al Sham, an outgrowth of al Qaeda, surprised the world once again by launching a renewed offensive against Hama. The offensive broke through SAA defensive lines around Hama in a pincer movement , leading to its withdrawal from the city Thursday. "During the past hours, with the intensification of confrontations between our soldiers and terrorist groups and the rise of a number of martyrs among our forces, these groups were able to penetrate several axes in the city and enter it, despite suffering heavy losses in their ranks," the general command of the army and armed forces of the SAA said in a statement . "In order to preserve the lives of civilians in Hama and not to involve them in battles inside the cities, the military units stationed there redeployed and repositioned themselves outside the city," they added. The statement maintained that the SAA will work to reclaim the areas. Videos published on social media showed HTS forces being greeted by supporters upon entering the city. One of their first moves was to open the prisons to free political prisoners. Videos show hundreds of inmates being greeted by supporters. Footage of clashes shows armored columns of HTS-led forces speeding through SAA lines, leading to a flight of SAA soldiers. In one video, panicked SAA vehicles are intercepted by HTS tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, being driven off the road or run over. The loss of Hama is a massive blow to the Assad government, with the city possessing great strategic and symbolic value. On a strategic level, the city was the government's last major population center before Homs, a hub that connects the M5 motorway to the capital and Syria's access to the Mediterranean Sea. If Homs is taken, Syria will effectively be split in two. The coastline is also the regime's heartland, possessing the greatest share of Alawites and Christians — Assad's biggest supporters. On a symbolic level, Hama was the sight of the brutal crushing of an Islamist uprising by the Muslim Brotherhood in 1982 by Assad's father, Hafez al Assad. In the nearly monthlong siege, the SAA surrounded and bombarded the city into submission, killing an estimated 10,000 to 40,000 people. The legacy of the incident played prominently in the 2011 protests and ensuing civil war, feeding a feeling of resentment among the rebels. It also served as a byword for government brutality, with older Syrians warning that Bashar Assad would "do Hama again" if the youth protested. More directly, Muslim Brotherhood survivors served as direct inspirations for many Islamist movements that have taken up arms in the country's civil war. Disciples of one prominent Syrian Muslim Brotherhood member, Abul-Abbas al Shami, went on to found the Ahrar al Sham Islamic Movement, a powerful militant group that helped take Hama on Thursday. In his first video statement announcing the taking of Hama, HTS Emir Abu Mohammad al Julani referenced the 1982 uprising. "I have good news for you, my brothers, that your brothers, the Mujahideen revolutionaries, have begun to enter the city of Hama to cleanse that wound that has continued in Syria for 40 years," he said. Keeping with his rebrand toward moderation, he said it was a conquest "free of revenge" and a "conquest entirely of mercy and love." In a decree Monday, Julani, who once served as head of Syria's al Qaeda affiliate, declared , “In the future Syria, we believe that diversity is our strength, not a weakness.” Shortly after the fall of Hama, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported that Damascus's air defenses had shot down several enemy drones — the first-ever drone attack by rebels against the capital. The situation is worse for Bashar Assad than at any time since September 2015. Its savior at that time, Russia, is assisting with some air assets and missile strikes but is largely distracted by its war in Ukraine. Bashar Assad's main hope is Iran and its proxy militias, which are reeling from recent fighting against Israel. Hezbollah and some Iraqi Shiite militias have reportedly been deployed to Syria in recent days but are largely defensive in posture. A Hezbollah fighter and Iraqi militia commanders speaking with the Washington Post said they are waiting for orders for their next move. Iran sent thousands of proxy fighters to assist Bashar Assad in the early years of the country's civil war, but such forces may not be enough to save the SAA. Footage from recent fighting shows massive quantities of Syrian tanks, equipment, and armored vehicles seemingly abandoned. Bashar Assad's recent decree granting a 50% raise in base salaries for SAA military personnel may not be sufficient. The Iranian government is now floating the prospect of a direct military intervention. “If the Syrian government wants us to deploy troops in Syria, we’ll consider their request,” Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with the United Kingdom-based newspaper Al Araby Al Jadeed. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps is already heavily embedded in Syria, with Israel killing many top commanders in strikes within the country. The Iraqi government, closely linked with Iran, is also floating the possibility of an intervention. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER Bashar Assad received the public backing of the most prestigious group in the Muslim world of the Iranian-led Axis of Resistance — the Houthis. Houthi Spokesman Mohammed al Bukhaiti said in a Tuesday statement that Bashar Assad was the only Arab head of state who hadn't abandoned the Palestinian and Lebanese cause and that the offensive's "ultimate goal" was to "cut off the resistance’s supply route in service of Israel." Hezbollah also reiterated its support, with newly inaugurated Secretary-General Naim Qassem saying in a Thursday speech that the group would "stand with Syria to thwart this aggression." He denounced HTS and its allies as "tools of Israel and America."
FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 11, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ACM Research, Inc. (“ACM”) (NASDAQ: ACMR), a leading supplier of wafer processing solutions for semiconductor and advanced packaging applications, today issued comments regarding recent updates to U.S. export regulations. On December 2, 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (“BIS”) imposed additional controls on exports to, and transfers within, the People’s Republic of China (“PRC”) relating to advanced integrated circuit (“IC”) products, certain IC manufacturing equipment and technology, and supercomputers associated with artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced computing. As part of the new regulations, among other updates, ACM Research (Shanghai), Inc. (“ACM Shanghai”) and its operating subsidiaries in China and Korea, were added to the Entity List published by BIS. Neither ACM, nor its direct subsidiaries outside of mainland China, were added to the Entity List. ACM is a Delaware corporation founded in California in 1998 to supply capital equipment developed for the global semiconductor industry. Since 2005, ACM has conducted its business operations principally through its subsidiary, ACM Shanghai, a limited liability corporation organized in the PRC. Based on public reports, 140 entities with semiconductor operations related to mainland China were added to the Entity List, 120 of which were semiconductor capital equipment suppliers. We note that neither ACM Shanghai nor its subsidiary was notified of any specific wrongdoing that resulted in its addition to the Entity List. We are assessing the potential impacts to our business and operational plans that may result from the new regulations. We believe the impact to our supply chain and the ability of ACM Shanghai to produce tools in the PRC will be minimized and manageable as a result of having alternative sources and suppliers. We do not anticipate an impact to the ability to sell, deliver and service products to customers outside of the PRC, however the potential impact on sales to our PRC customers will depend, in part, on the effect of the new regulations on their own spending plans. Consistent with prior years, we expect to issue a press release in January with preliminary results for 2024 and our initial revenue outlook for 2025. We will continue to focus on technology innovation for the global market and operate in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. We are confident we can maintain our role as a key supplier of differentiated capital equipment to global customers and protect the interests of partners, employees, and investors as we navigate the ever-evolving geopolitical landscape.
