Hyderabad: Startups are driving innovation, and Telangana is ready to support AI solutions that drive social impact, said Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary (IT and Industries). Speaking at Woxsen University’s Future Tech Summit 2024 here on Tuesday, Ranjan, emphasized in his address that all conversations around AI must focus on practical use cases rather than hypotheses. He asked everyone to explore as many use cases as possible and work towards turning them into reality instead of leaving them as mere possibilities. “The Telangana government recently organized the Global AI Summit, with the theme: Making AI Work for Everyone. As it suggests, we must focus on using AI to benefit everyone. Telangana is uniquely positioned to explore and implement AI solutions, and we are happy to onboard the latest technologies that are relevant to the government, he said. If there are solutions that enhance agricultural productivity, reduce crop losses, improve healthcare in remote areas, or promote education in government schools, we will gladly adopt them,” he said. Highlighting the critical role of young innovators and startups and pointing out their importance in driving innovation, he said“Startups are contributing more than traditional institutions because they are agile and not bogged down by legacy. In Telangana, our strategic support to startups—providing data access, expert mentoring, and early-stage funding—has proven successful. We are open to collaborating with educational institutes, foreign universities, or institutions to create startup programs and offer support,” he added. President-elect Donald Trump called his meeting with Justin Trudeau productive and says the prime minister made a commitment to work with the United States to end the drug crisis amid the threat of stiff tariffs. Trudeau flew to Florida Friday evening to attend a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump’s transition team is based. The in-person meeting came at the end of a rocky week in which Trump threatened to impose stiff tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, unless the two countries stop illegal border crossings and prevent illicit drugs from entering the U.S. In a post on Truth Social, Trump says he and Trudeau discussed the drug crisis, particularly fentanyl, illegal immigration, as well as trade, energy and the Arctic. Trump’s post did not directly mention tariffs. Trudeau told reporters in West Palm Beach Saturday morning that he had an excellent conversation with Trump’s transition team. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 30, 2024. The Canadian PressGlobal Times explores China's "Hehe" culture, emphasizing harmony, peace, and its military's role in global stability. Beijing, China, Dec. 25, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The concept of "Hehe" in Chinese culture, with the first "He" embodying harmony, peace and balance and the second representing convergence, unity and cooperation, is central to both the individual and collective mind-set in China. Rooted in thousands of years of philosophy, the idea of "Hehe" serves as a guiding principle for living in harmony with others, nature and oneself. In a broader context, the concept of "Hehe" has significant relevance to the world today, as addressing the global challenges we face in various areas requires the principles that "Hehe" emphasizes. Viewed through a contemporary lens, "Hehe" is a timeless and universal concept that can guide China and the world toward a more harmonious, peaceful and balanced future. The Global Times gathers opinions from experts and scholars around the world to explore the global significance of "Hehe" culture from various perspectives. This is the third piece of the series. The Chinese nation has a long and profound pursuit of peace, and Chinese culture is characterized by deep-rooted ideas about harmony. The Chinese people have always harbored sincere aspirations for a better, peaceful world, and have been practitioners of "beating swords into plowshares" for thousands of years. The Chinese phrase "beating swords into plowshares" expresses the people's desire to lay down their weapons in pursuit of peace and serves as a warning to mankind not to bring about war again, as maintaining peace is what truly deserves our efforts. Gunpowder was first invented by the Chinese. It was originally used for fireworks to honor the gods rather than for making bullets for warfare, unlike in Europe. China has demonstrated to the world that technological advancement is meant to foster a safer world rather than to inflict harm. Why was gunpowder, invented in China, not used for warfare? This stems from the Chinese nation's values and ideals of peace, harmony, and coexistence, which are manifested in China's Hehe culture. The Chinese nation does not have a genetic predisposition for invading others or seeking hegemony; rather, the quest for peace is the enduring aspiration of the Chinese people. The ancient Chinese military treatise The Art of War states, "The art of war is of vital importance to the State. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected." Its core message is to approach war with caution and, whenever possible, to avoid it altogether. The concepts of "harmony is to be prized" and "harmony in diversity" have been passed down through generations, becoming deeply ingrained in the spirit of the Chinese people and reflected in their actions. Historically, China was once one of the most powerful countries in the world, yet it did not leave behind any record of colonization or foreign invasion. In modern times, the Chinese people have suffered greatly from invasion and war, leading them to deeply appreciate peace and recognize the urgency of development. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the country has never initiated any wars or conflicts and has never occupied even a square inch of another's land. Following the reform and opening-up, China has dedicated itself to promoting world peace, significantly reducing its military personnel by over four million. China's development from poverty to becoming the world's second-largest economy was not built on charity from others, much less on military expansion or colonial exploitation, but rather on the hard work of its people and the maintenance of peace, which has contributed stability and positivity to a tumultuous international landscape. The increasing strength of the Chinese military represents a growing force for world peace. As Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed, China is "a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order." The Chinese military not only provides strategic support for safeguarding overseas interests but also increasingly takes on the mission of maintaining world peace. The stronger the Chinese military becomes, the more effectively it can deter war and bolster peace, thereby reinforcing global stability and development. China has become the largest troop contributor to peacekeeping operations among the permanent members of the UN Security Council and the second-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping assessments. From 2008 to 2024, the Chinese military has dispatched 46 escort task forces to the Gulf of Aden and the waters off Somalia, actively participating in international disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. Whether on the front lines of disaster relief or in defense of peace, the presence of the Chinese military is prominent in many issues of shared concern within the international community. China has the best track record with respect to peace and security, and is the only country in the world that has pledged to "keep to a path of peaceful development" in its Constitution. A large nation with over 1.4 billion people that adheres to a path of peaceful development itself constitutes a stable and powerful force for maintaining world peace. What the Chinese military offers on the world stage is security rather than threat, and opportunity instead of challenge. It has faithfully implemented concepts such as the Global Security Initiative and the idea of a community with a shared future for mankind. The Chinese military seeks its own security while championing collective security, promoting the establishment of multilateral security cooperation mechanisms, and putting into action a new vision for common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. From bilateral to multilateral engagements, from regional waters to distant seas, and from "going out" to "bringing in," China has hosted a number of military diplomatic events, including the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, the Western Pacific Naval Symposium, and the China-Africa Peace and Security Forum. In this way, China has maintained frequent exchanges with high-level militaries from different countries, established defense and security consultation mechanisms with neighboring countries, and collaborated with all parties to address various international and regional security challenges. Moreover, the Chinese military is taking on increasingly significant responsibilities and playing a more vital role in maintaining global peace and regional stability. Regardless of how times change, the Chinese military will always be standing fast as a disciplined force for peace and justice. It will actively fulfill its responsibilities and obligations commensurate with China's international standing, provide more public security products for the world, and contribute to building lasting peace and universal security for a better future. The ability to fight enables one to prevent war. Without the pursuit of conflict prevention, the capacity to engage in combat could easily devolve into militarism and external aggression. Conversely, without the strength to fight, the desire to halt war becomes nothing more than wishful thinking. Hence, it is crucial to maintain strategic clarity regarding the potential risks of warfare and to leverage military strength in crisis management and war deterrence. Only through this can we effectively deter war and decisively prevail in any potential conflict. New Delhi, Nov 24 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Sunday that his government considers India’s eastern region as the country’s growth engine, while the area was considered backward earlier. Addressing a gathering at the “Odisha Parba” event here, the prime minister said investments of Rs 45,000 crore have been approved within 100 days of the formation of a new government in the state. “Odisha has always been a land of seers and scholars. The way the scholars there took our religious texts to every household and connected the public with those, it has played a crucial role in the cultural prosperity of India. “There was a time when India’s eastern region and the states there were called backward. However, I consider the eastern region as the country’s growth engine. That is why we have prioritised the development of the region,” he said. “The budget that we now allocate to Odisha is three times higher than what it was 10 years ago. We are working rapidly in every sector for Odisha’s development and the budget has been increased by 30 per cent this year,” Modi added. The prime minister said the Centre is committed to promoting ease of doing business in Odisha and added that investments of Rs 45,000 crore have been approved within 100 days of the formation of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state. “Last year, the G20 Summit was held in India. During the summit, we showcased the photo of the Sun Temple (in Konark). I am also glad that all four doors of the Jagannath temple (in Puri) are open now. Besides, the Ratna Bhandar of the temple is also open,” he added. “Odisha Parba” is a flagship event conducted by the Odia Samaj, a Delhi-based trust engaged in providing valuable support towards the preservation and promotion of Odia heritage. This year, “Odisha Parba” was organised from November 22 to November 24 to showcase the rich heritage of Odisha, displaying colourful cultural forms and exhibiting the vibrant social, cultural and political ethos of the state. Noting that cashew, jute, cotton, turmeric and oilseeds are produced in abundance in Odisha, Modi said the government’s effort is to ensure that these products reach big markets and thereby, benefit the farmers. “There is also a lot of scope for expansion in the seafood-processing industry of Odisha and the government’s effort is to make Odisha seafood a brand that will be in demand in the global market,” he added. Modi said by channelising Odisha’s potential in the right direction, the state can be taken to new heights of development. Emphasising that Odisha can benefit from its strategic location, he said access to domestic and international markets is easy from the state. “Odisha is an important hub of trade for East and South-East Asia. Odisha has immense potential to promote urbanisation,” the prime minister said, adding that his government is also creating new possibilities in the tier-two cities of the state, especially in the districts of western Odisha where development of new infrastructure can lead to the creation of new opportunities. Touching upon the abundant heritage of architecture and science of Odisha, Modi said science, architecture and the vastness of ancient temples like the Sun Temple, the Lingaraj and Mukteshwar temples amaze everyone with their exquisiteness and craftsmanship. Set to co-host the festive musical event alongside David Campbell, Abo was absent from the festivities on Tuesday evening and instead watched it from her hospital bed. In a social media post, Abo said hospital was not where she thought she be, but her “appendix had other ideas”. “Unfortunately surgery has kept me from being at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl sharing this magical evening with you all,” she wrote to her almost 50k followers. “Doctor’s orders!! “Thankfully all is good and I’ve been very well cared for by an incredible team of doctors and nurses.” Abo said she would watch Carols By Candlelight from her bed, calling the special evening a “beautiful cause” which helped support the work of Vision Australia. Campbell told the crowd of 10,000 people his host had been struck down by appendicitis and had been told to stay home to rest. “Apparently hosting a three hour national TV show is not taking it easy,” he said. “I have seen her (Sarah) host the Today show in her sleep but this – too much. “I just want to say Sarah, get better. I miss you pal, right here.” Campbell then rallied the thousands of people in the audience to wish his bedridden co-star a Merry Christmas. “We miss you a lot,” he said.
