Employees of SpaceX have formally filed a petition to incorporate a new municipality called Starbase in coastal South Texas, where the company’s rocket launch facilities are located. The proposed city’s first mayor would be a SpaceX security manager. Over the years, Musk has shifted his operations from California to Texas, developing facilities across several counties. Musk has been envisioning the Starbase town for years, but recently progress accelerated as SpaceX employees started moving into nearby homes and temporary housing near the launch site. According to a report by the New York Times, residents working for SpaceX filed an official petition with Cameron County to hold an election on incorporation this month. The document (seen by NYT) reveals initial plans for the city. If this city comes into existence, Musk will create history by doing something that no other company or business leader has ever done. What happens when Starbase comes into existence The Starbase plan remained stalled for years, partly due to Texas laws requiring a minimum number of residents and majority voter support to establish a new municipality. However, SpaceX employees have started settling into refurbished homes and temporary housing near the company's rocket launch site, the report claims. This month, these residents took a step toward creating a new city by filing a petition with Cameron County to hold an election, revealing initial details about Elon Musk's vision for the proposed municipality. If approved, the election would allow voters to select three city officials, including Gunnar Milburn, SpaceX's security manager, as the proposed first mayor. The petition outlines a community of roughly 500 residents, including 219 primary residents and over 100 children, located near Boca Chica Beach at the end of State Highway 4. Covering about 1.5 square miles, the proposed town is small by Texas standards. Most residents are renters and work for SpaceX. However, the petition does not mention why Musk and SpaceX employees are pursuing the creation of Starbase or what benefits they aim to achieve. The proposed town could establish its own police or fire departments or enact its ordinances. Apart from this, Musk may also be looking into the possibility of housing employees in a development outside the town of Bastrop, near Austin. The area is home to a growing campus for Musk companies, including a manufacturing plant for SpaceX; the headquarters of the Boring Company, which is creating tunnelling technology; and, soon, offices for the social media platform X (earlier Twitter).

Things are off to a heated start between Ryan Garcia and Rukiya Anpo. Garcia and Anpo are set to face each other in an exhibition showdown at RIZIN’s Decade event on Dec. 30, and on Tuesday, the first press conference for the event took place in Los Angeles. And while Garcia press conferences often have a potential to turn wild, it was Anpo who brought an aggressive energy to the proceedings. After initial statements to open the press conference, Anpo took to the podium with a pre-written speech that the Japanese kickboxer delivered to Garcia before crumbling it up and throwing it at the former WBC interim lightweight champion. “We all know Ryan Garcia’s issues,” Anpo said. “Missing weight, alcohol, ... lack of professionalism, no sportsmanship, no respect. Yet he dares to call himself ‘King.’ On fight day I’ll show him the true code of bushido. We fight for honor and legacy. I’ll bring the real Japanese samurai spirit and show him exactly where he belongs. “F*ck you! F*ck you!” Anpo’s aggression seem to catch Garcia off guard, who admitted that he was not taking this event too seriously. “It’s waking me up,” Garcia said. “I just kind of looked to this like, it’s going to be a little exhibition, I’m going to enjoy the ride, enjoy the festivities in Japan, it’s New Year’s, but now it’s kind of waking the dragon up. It’s not anymore.” Garcia and Anpo continued to trade words back-and-forth as the press conference continued with both men making threats to one another before ultimately facing off for the first time. And given the tenor of the presser up until then, it’s no surprise that things got a little heated during the face off, with Garcia pretending to hit Anpo, and Anpo responding with a shove of his own. Garcia is currently serving a one-year suspension for the failure. The 29-year-old Anpo is a former K-1 champion who most recently had an impressive performance against Manny Pacquiao in a three-round exhibition boxing match back in July. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Joel Embiid sounded off after details from the 76ers’ lengthy team meeting Monday night — including that teammate Tyrese Maxey called out the 2023 NBA Most Valuable Player for tardiness — surfaced through multiple reports citing anonymous sources, saying “whoever leaked that is a real piece of [expletive].” “We talked about a lot of things [during the meeting],” Embiid said Wednesday after the Sixers’ 117-111 loss to the Grizzlies. “I don’t want to get into the details, but that whole thing [with Maxey] probably took 30 seconds. But then again, it’s Joel Embiid, so we’ve got to make everything blown out of proportion. “It’s whatever. I’ll take it all. I’m the reason for everything, so I’ll take the blame for everything.” Embiid’s answer was triggered by a question about why his relationship with Maxey — which has developed into a well-known close friendship during their four-plus seasons as teammates — is strong enough to have those difficult, candid conversations. For Wednesday’s game in Memphis, Embiid and Maxey were situated in the same corner of the visitors’ locker room, and spent the bulk of the postgame period open to the media chatting with no noticeable tension. Even in the immediate aftermath of Monday’s meeting, which followed the Sixers’ loss at the Miami Heat, Embiid walked over to Maxey for a quick talk during the period when reporters were present. “That’s the relationship we have — nothing malicious,” Embiid said. “I like when people are telling me what I’m not doing good, what I need to do better. All I try to do is focus on basketball, and trying to make the best living for my family, on and off the court. “But it’s unbelievable. It just feels like negativity keeps following us, which I don’t understand why. But it is a shame, but it doesn’t change the fact that we’ve still all got to be better.” Embiid’s comments Wednesday occurred after his best game of the season, as he finished with 35 points and 11 rebounds in 35 minutes. It was supposed to be the Sixers’ first game that their three All-Stars — Embiid, Maxey, and newcomer Paul George — played together, but George left early in the third quarter after hyperextending his left knee. “We talked about a bunch of stuff [in the meeting],” Embiid said. “At times, we executed what we talked about, and at times, we didn’t.
