Week 12 TNF: Steelers-Browns Preview, Props & PredictionMANILA, Philippines — Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte said Saturday she has contracted an assassin to kill the president, his wife and the House of Representatives speaker if she herself is killed, in a brazen public threat that she warned was not a joke. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin referred the “active threat” against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to an elite presidential guards force “for immediate proper action.” It was not immediately clear what actions would be taken against the vice president. The Presidential Security Command immediately boosted Marcos’ security and said it considered the vice president’s threat, which was “made so brazenly in public,” a national security issue. The security force said it was “coordinating with law enforcement agencies to detect, deter, and defend against any and all threats to the president and the first family.” Marcos ran with Duterte as his vice-presidential running mate in the May 2022 elections and both won with landslide victories on a campaign call of national unity. The two leaders and their camps, however, rapidly had a bitter falling-out over key differences, including in their approaches to China’s aggressive actions in the disputed South China Sea. Duterte resigned from the Marcos Cabinet in June as education secretary and head of an anti-insurgency body. Like her equally outspoken father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, the vice president became a vocal critic of Marcos, his wife, Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the president’s ally and cousin, accusing them of corruption, incompetence and politically persecuting the Duterte family and its close supporters. Her latest tirade was set off by the decision by House members allied with Romualdez and Marcos to detain her chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez, who was accused of hampering a congressional inquiry into the possible misuse of her budget as vice president and education secretary. Lopez was later transferred to a hospital after falling ill and wept when she heard of a plan to temporarily lock her up in a women’s prison. In a pre-dawn online news conference, an angry Sara Duterte accused Marcos of incompetence as a president and of being a liar, along with his wife and the House speaker, in expletives-laden remarks. When asked about concerns over her security, the 46-year-old lawyer suggested there was an unspecified plot to kill her. “Don’t worry about my security because I’ve talked with somebody. I said, if I’m killed, you’ll kill BBM, Liza Araneta and Martin Romualdez. No joke, no joke,” the vice president said without elaborating, and using the initials that many use to call the president. “I’ve given my order, If I die, don’t stop until you’ve killed them. And he said yes,” the vice president said. Under the Philippine penal code, such public remarks may constitute a crime of threatening to inflict a wrong on a person or his family, and is punishable by a jail term and fine. Amid the political divisions, military chief Gen. Romeo Brawner issued a statement with an assurance that the 160,000-member Armed Forces of the Philippines would remain nonpartisan “with utmost respect for our democratic institutions and civilian authority.” “We call for calm and resolve,” Brawner said. “We reiterate our need to stand together against those who will try to break our bonds as Filipinos.” Our website is the place for the latest breaking news, exclusive scoops, longreads and provocative commentary. Rahul Gandhi NEW DELHI: BJP on Tuesday lit into Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for resuming his attack on Veer Savarkar after keeping mum on the Hindutva ideologue during the poll campaign in Maharashtra where he is revered as a social reformer and nationalist. The party cited PM Narendra Modi 's remarks during the Maharashtra campaign that Rahul'' silence was tactical and that he would go back to deriding Savarkar as soon as the elections were over. "How can one be so predictable?" asked HRD minister Dharmendra Pradhan as he emphasised that PM Modi had been validated. "PM was absolutely right. By attacking a nationalist, Rahul has confirmed that he is a hard-baked pseudo-secular and an appeaser. Have no hope from Uddhav ji, but am sure that members of his party are watching," he added. In his meetings during the Maharashtra campaign, Modi had attacked Shiv Sena (UBT) which counts Savarkar as among its heroes, and Congress for their "opportunistic" tie-up. He challenged Uddhav Thackeray to get Rahul to say "two sentences" in praise of Balasaheb Thackeray, a Hindutva hardliner and a source of inspiration for Shiv Sena, while predicting that the Congress leader would start mocking Savarkar as soon as the Maharashtra campaign was over. Rahul fired his latest salvo at Savarkar while addressing a Constitution Day event Congress had organised at Talkatora Stadium. Holding up a copy of the Constitution, Rahul asked whether it reflected Savarkar's views or his advocacy for violence - remarks which BJP leaders described as "derogatory" towards the freedom fighter. BJP's chief spokesperson Anil Baluni accused Rahul of diminishing the contributions of all but his own forefathers to India's freedom struggle. He labelled Rahul's approach as that of a "seasonal politician" whose ideology shifted with electoral tides. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, revenue minister in Maharashtra's outgoing govt, also condemned Rahul's statement, asking how Congress's new political allies would react to these perceived insults to Savarkar's legacy. BJP's IT department head Amit Malviya said in a post on X, "Rahul Gandhi is vile and predictable. He didn't mention Veer Savarkar even once throughout the Maharashtra election and started spewing venom soon after the rout. PM Modi had predicted this. Credit to the people of Maharashtra for showing the abusive dynast his place."

Traffic citations against Dolphins' Tyreek Hill dismissed after officers no-show at hearingNetflix will have one of its biggest days Wednesday since the site launched in 1998 when it airs two NFL games for the first time. “NFL Christmas Gameday on Netflix” begins with a two-hour pregame show at 11 a.m., before Pittsburgh hosts Kansas City. Baltimore faces Houston in the second game. The streaming giant agreed to a three-year contract in May to carry Christmas Day games. Netflix’s 282.3 million subscribers in over 190 countries will be able to stream the games, marking the first time one outlet has distributed an NFL game globally. Netflix will have the games available in five languages — English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German. The games will also air on CBS affiliates in Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Houston. NFL policy dictates that games on cable or being exclusively streamed must also be on an over-the-air station in the competing teams’ markets. It will also be available on mobile devices in the U.S. for those who have NFL+. The biggest reason is money. The league is getting $150 million from Netflix for the two games this season. It also continues the NFL’s moves into streaming — Thursday night games are in their third season on Amazon Prime Video and the “Sunday Ticket” package moved to YouTube TV last year. That’s true, but the league wasn’t about to give up Christmas after seeing the ratings. Last year’s three games averaged 28.68 million viewers. The early afternoon contest between the Las Vegas Raiders and Chiefs led the way, averaging 29.48 million. The Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens and Texans played on Saturday, giving them the same turnaround they would have if they played on Sunday and then Thursday. All four have clinched playoff spots in the AFC, but seeding remains up for grabs. Kansas City (14-1) can clinch the top seed — which would mean a first-round bye and home field throughout the playoffs — with a win over the Steelers. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are tied atop the AFC North at 10-5, with the Steelers holding the tiebreaker due to a better conference record. Houston (9-6) has wrapped up the AFC South and holds the fourth seed. Netflix hopes so. Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series and sports, said the system was stress tested, and then some, during the Nov. 14 bout, along with internet service providers reporting they were also overwhelmed by the surge that occurred before and during the fight. The bout peaked at 65 million concurrent streams, including 38 million concurrent streams in the United States. According to the website Down Detector, nearly 85,000 viewers logged problems with outages or streaming leading up to and during the fight. Possible? Yes. Likely? No. The largest audience for a streamed-exclusive NFL game was 23 million on Peacock for last season’s AFC wild-card game between the Miami Dolphins and Chiefs. Nielsen will measure the ratings for the Christmas Day games, with early numbers expected late afternoon on Thursday. It will probably beat kickoff for both games, but especially around 5:45 p.m. EST. That would be near halftime of the Ravens-Texans game, and when Beyoncé will be performing. Mariah Carey will kick off the day with a taped performance of “All I Want for Christmas is You.” There is no word if Taylor Swift will make the trip to Pittsburgh to watch her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift has been spending time in Kansas City since she wrapped up her Eras Tour two weeks ago. The NFL will have at least two games on Dec. 25 in 2025 and ’26, with Netflix slated to have at least one each year. Amazon Prime Video will have a night game with Christmas on a Thursday next year. Netflix’s worldwide partnership with World Wrestling Entertainment will begin on Jan. 6 when “Monday Night Raw” moves to the streaming service. On Friday, Netflix secured the U.S. rights for the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl
