Mustafa Ali recently looked back at his release from WWE, his near-win of Money in the Bank and more. Ali was a guest on Insight With Chris Van Vliet and the show sent us along some highlights, which you can check out below: On his WWE release: “Not surprised that it happened. Surprised when it did happen? Yeah. I was in NXT at the time, and I actually had a pay-per-view match scheduled that weekend with Dominik Mysterio for the North American Championship.” On if he was going to win the North American Championship if the match happened: “I don’t believe anything until it happens. But yeah, I don’t mind sharing. I think that was the plan. But mind you, the plan was actually to put the North American Championship on me months prior. But WWE is so smart with advertising and contract negotiations. So NXT, the network deal was coming up. Shawn Michaels in NXT is awesome. He explains to me, ‘Hey, we’re gonna put the North American Championship on you.’ What happens is the network deal is coming up and this is when Judgment Day, specifically Dom, is just white hot. I mean, they’re still white hot right now, but Dom was next level right there. So they were like, ‘Hey, everyone in Judgment Day has a championship. We want to put a championship on Dom, and we want to spike the ratings for NXT.’ Because the idea is if you spike the ratings with the contract negotiations this helps you. So this is when Seth was coming and Becky was coming. So I get a call from Shawn, ‘Hey, we’re actually putting the championship on Dom, and here’s a reason...’ I go yeah, that makes total sense, awesome, do it. I didn’t expect it coming. Dom’s gonna come and challenge Wes Lee and beat him, great. So we do that. Then we do a three-way match, which was super fun with Dom, me and Wes Lee. And then [Shawn] is like Hey, Dom is needed back on the main roster. Poor guy was working six days a week. So I think that was a plan. Was it a surprise? No, because I saw WWE stock and WWE in general going this way [up], and my stock just going this way [down].” On Money in the Bank: “So yeah, I show up to Money in the Bank, and they’re like, ‘Hey, you’re winning it.’ I go what?! Okay, cool. So this is so funny because I’m one of the shorter guys in the match. So they actually had me climb up the ladder so they could adjust the briefcase so it was within grabbing distance of me. All day we’re putting this match together. Everyone’s like, ‘Hey, man, Congrats.’ [I’m like] Yeah, this is awesome. I was like maybe I can get this briefcase to light up, because I was wearing the light-up stuff at the time. I’m thinking this is one of those cloud 9 moments, I can’t believe this is happening, because it’s not happening. “So the match is about to start. Entrances have started. I want to say Baron Corbin is making his entrance. I don’t know why, I just have his music in my head. I have a very funny visual for you. So I’m wearing this light-up mask and I’m wearing this jacket that lights up and I have a glove, and they all kind of pulsate with lights, obviously. Jamie Noble comes up ‘Hey, boss man wants to talk to you. Go talk to the boss.’ I was like, Okay. The entrances are happening. Vince is looking up and I come over. Now mind you Gorilla is completely dark, so I just have these red lights that are flashing on Vince’s face and he’s all shadowy. So you can see the picture that I see. He goes ‘Change of plans. Do the match, everything you called. When the time is right I want you to climb up the ladder and grab the briefcase. Someone’s going to come out. I want you to hold the briefcase and just have shock on your face. He’s gonna run down, tip the ladder over, and you stay down. Do you understand?’ And again, my lights are just flashing on his face, so I see what he’s saying but there’s a moment where he goes black and it’s red, black and it’s red. I’m like, ‘Copy that, sir.’ I just walk away I’m like, It’s Brock. Who else could it be? I’m walking, I’m like, whatever. My music is hitting. So he literally told me [right before]. None of the guys in the match know. Finn didn’t know. Randy didn’t know, Baron Corbin is in the match, Drew McIntyre, Andrade. No one knew. I’m the only guy that knows. I’m walking down, I’m just focused on the match at this point. The match happens, climbing up the thing and man, it’s just like, I know everyone’s like well why didn’t you just grab the briefcase? I want to be like, because my boss told me.” “So I climb up, I grab it. Brock’s music hits. They cut to him. I do the slip. You don’t see it, but when I’m looking down Brock hits a ladder out of the way, and it just completely annihilates a cameraman named Rico. Just hits him in the head. He goes down, he needs stitches. I’m watching this and I’m like he’s gonna murder me! I hope I’m not destroying the mystique of Brock here, but what a pro. Gets in the ring, grabs me, looks up to me. He’s like, ‘Hey, kid you ready?’ And I’m like yeah? He goes ‘Okay, nice and easy, one, two.’ And the thing is, he was so nice about the push that I was expecting this violent thing that I hurled myself off the ladder and I ended up hitting the top rope with my mouth, cutting my mouth, completely my fault, hurting myself, and I go down. He’s just pros pro man. I’m saying that, but you can see if you watch it back, if you cut to the clip of the guys on the floor selling, they’re all very unamused that this match happened that way.” On being eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Nia Jax: “So that spot wasn’t originally for me. I don’t know who it was for, but someone was not very much okay with getting eliminated by a woman. And I’m at this point where I’m trying to prove that I’m a pro’s pro. I’m down for whatever. I can kind of see, I think it was Jamie Noble because it was some sort of frantic search. I looked at Jamie and I was like, ‘What’s the spot?’ He looked at me and he goes, ‘Would you be okay with it?’ I just go, ‘Yep. What is it?’ He goes, ‘Well, Nia is gonna beat up R-Truth and then she’s gonna take everyone’s finisher. But before she does that I just need her to throw somebody [out].’ I don’t know who the original person is. I really don’t know. But I remember going it’s a scripted show. It’s fine. Me and Nia are homies. “So I remember I told Nia hey, I’ll do it. And she was so like, thank you. I could see the sense of relief. So I could see why some people were like, oh man, that made you look weak. I go Nia is shoot strong as hell and could pick up anyone in this room right now, and she tossed me over. So we did the thing with Nia. I do the whole [thing] I’m not gonna hit you. I did this thing and then she head-butted me, picked me up. Gets talked about to this day. Actually, I think the RKO and the 619 she took in the Royal Rumble gets talked more. But yeah, it was a moment. I could see how some of the guys were like I wouldn’t have done that. But one, I didn’t have a problem with it and two, I was looking like, I think that goes a long way to like Vince and to like Bruce. This guy didn’t have a problem getting the spot over because that’s a moment. That’s what we want to do. We want to create moments. That was the honest intention behind it. So yeah, it wasn’t originally designed for me from what I understand.”
Man arraigned on murder charges in NYC subway death fanned flames with a shirt, prosecutors sayAllowing the use of WhatsApp and Google Play is the "first step in removing internet limitations," according to Iranian officials. The country still enforces draconian internet controls. Iranian authorities have lifted a ban on Meta's messaging platform WhatsApp and Google Play app purchasing service as a first step towards scaling back internet restrictions, state media reported. "A positive majority vote has been reached to lift limitations on access to some popular foreign platforms such as WhatsApp and Google Play," Iran's official news agency IRNA said, referring to a meeting headed by President Masoud Pezeshkian . The agency also quotes Iran's Minister of Information and Communications Technology Sattar Hashemi as saying the move is "the first step in removing internet limitations." The country has some of the strictest controls on internet access in the world. These include embargos on US-based social media networks such as Facebook , X and YouTube . Messaging service Telegram was also banned by a court order in April 2018. However, these restrictions are routinely bypassed by tech-savvy Iranians using virtual private networks (VPN). Social media platforms were widely used in anti-government protests in Iran . In September, the US called on big tech companies to help evade online censorship in countries that heavily censor the internet, including Iran. ftm/dj (AFP, Reuters)Asking Eric: Can I tell the server that her little game isn’t amusing?

New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS): After a video of former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu surfaced in which he described his wife's treatment for her breast cancer as "starving the cancer by not eating dairy products and sugar", Tata Memorial Hospital doctors on Saturday warned that diet alone is no cure for the disease, which requires a range of medical interventions. Oncologists at Tata Memorial Trust, in a post shared on X, said: "Diet alone is not a cure for cancer. While it plays a crucial role in supporting treatment and improving outcomes, cancer cure typically requires medical interventions like surgery, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies. Nutraceuticals and dietary changes can enhance the effectiveness of these treatments by targeting cancer pathways and improving the patient’s overall health. However, claims of curing cancer through diet alone lack scientific validation. Treatment plans should integrate diet as a complementary approach rather than a standalone solution, tailored to the individual’s cancer type and overall condition." Sidhu in a video, widely circulated on social media, had said that his wife starved the cancer by not eating dairy products and sugar and consumed haldi (turmeric) and neem which helped cure her "incurable" cancer. He said she ate her first meal of the day at 10 a.m. and the last meal of the day at 6.30 p.m. To this, the Tata Memorial doctors said: "These statements have no high-quality evidence to support them. While research is ongoing for some of these products, there is no clinical data currently to recommend their use as anti-cancer agents. We urge the public to not delay their treatment by following unproven remedies, but rather to consult a doctor, preferably a cancer specialist, if they have any symptoms of cancer. Cancer is curable if detected early and proven cancer treatments include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy." At least 262 oncologists (present and past, from Tata Memorial Hospital) signed the statement. “Make this go viral. We have to keep fighting misinformation,” the Tata Memorial said.

It’s frustrating, but not life-threatening. She enjoys it. I hate it. If I were to object, it would force her to make the choice of being herself — doing something she likes doing — or appeasing me so I can order the way I want to order. I don’t know if this is a big enough problem to have a “high road.” The answer will not change my life. She can easily change, and I can easily suffer. The question is who gets to be themselves? – Speaking Up Dear Speaking Up : I worked in the service industry for more than a decade. I loved it. I loved seeing regulars, meeting new people and carrying a lot of beverages in my hands at one time. The whole bit. I also loved knowing what people wanted, but I would always ask and confirm. That’s part of the job. Your server may think you’re a regular who likes to be known in this way. So, informing her that that’s not the case won’t be keeping her from being herself. It will be helping her to do her job better. You may not have the kind of temperament that easily or comfortably course-corrects in social situations. That’s just fine. But know you won’t be causing her suffering by saying something like “I’ve already decided on my meal. Let’s skip the guessing today and I’ll just tell you.” This also clears the path for the two of you to talk about something else, if you want. Ideally, it’s a conversation that you’ll both enjoy. Dear Eric: My husband and I live on a lake and love hosting our grandnieces and grandnephews on school breaks and the entire family on vacations. We have no children. Our nieces’ families are dear to us. Our 11-year-old grandnephew has been gaming now for about a year. When he comes to visit, instead of reading or playing cards or board games with us, like in the past, he wants to disappear with his video games. We feel vacated. How do we navigate this with his parents, who think his being on a video gaming team at school is awesome (I think it is a bad omen)? What is a fair place of compromise and balance? – Game Off Dear Game Off : Let his parents parent their child. The other night I rewatched the movie “Network” from 1977 (stay with me here; it relates). In it, a character in his 60s dismisses a character played by a mid-30s Faye Dunaway by saying, “She’s the television generation. She learned life from Bugs Bunny. The only reality she knows is what comes to her over her TV set.” Every generation has anxieties about the ways that technology is changing social interactions or altering the minds of the generations below. While some of those concerns are valid, those of Faye Dunaway’s generation (now in their 70s and 80s) would argue that they’ve managed to stay quite well-rounded, despite (and often with the aid of) TV. In moderation, video games have been shown to improve a child’s cognitive function and working memory. While your grandnephew’s gaming might not be your choice, it’s important that you not seek to undermine the research and thinking that his parents have done about it. What you’re really yearning for is a sense of togetherness as a family, so try talking to your niece and her spouse about group activities you can plan to meet your grandnephew where he is. And don’t be afraid to pick up a controller and ask him to show you the ropes. Dear Eric : I’m not sure if the letter from “Invisible Dad” about his wife buying trinkets for their adult kids and having more close conversations with them is related to my better half and myself. I think it could be, but I can’t be sure so don’t want to ask him. I never really thought about it all the time but assumed kids knew that gifts were from both of us. If this question does relate to us, and even if it doesn’t, I will be mindful of what I haven’t been mindful of. My heart is melting if he does really care that much about the kids. Thank you for listening. – Daily Reader Dear Reader : Thanks for your thoughtful note and your openness. Please also reconsider talking to your husband about the ways you interact with your kids. It could be really healing and productive. Send questions to R. Eric Thomas at eric@askingeric.com or P.O. Box 22474, Philadelphia, PA 19110. NoneImmigration measures announced as part of Canada’s border response to president-elect Donald Trump’s 25 per cent tariff threat are starting to be implemented, beginning with a ban on what’s known as “flagpoling.” This is when someone who was in Canada on a temporary visa leaves for the U.S. then quickly re-enters Canada to access immigration services at a port of entry. The restriction on providing work and study permits to flagpolers takes effect today. Last week, Immigration Minister Marc Miller said that going forward temporary visa holders will have to apply online to extend their stay in Canada. The Canadian Border Services Agency processed more than 69,300 people who engaged in flagpoling in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. There are still rare exceptions where a person will be granted a work or study permit even though they meet the definition of flagpoling, including international truck drivers with a work permit, professionals under certain free trade agreements and American citizens. Miller first announced the plan to ban the practice on Dec. 17, alongside Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc who promised a border control package worth $1.3 billion. This includes removing the point value for having a job offer in Canada’s express entry immigration system. The stated goal of this change is to reduce and prevent immigration fraud. In a social media post, Miller said this will take effect in the spring and that it will be a temporary measure. A broader review of the express entry program is being conducted, and a future decision on the value of a job offer in that system will be made at that time. A labour market impact assessment, a key document required for an employer to hire a foreign worker, is currently worth 50 to 200 points in the express entry system. Applicants are not supposed to pay for these, but a black market has emerged where people are charging tens of thousands of dollars for these documents. Applications that are already in progress won’t be affected once this change takes effect. Miller also said the government is looking at ways to streamline Canada’s asylum system at that Dec. 17 press conference. This includes exploring options to “quickly deal with” illegitimate claims. The government’s broader border measures plan to respond to Trump’s 25 per cent tariff threat also includes enhanced aerial surveillance and drug detection efforts.
The many faceted character of Sirimavo BandaranaikeNEW YORK (AP) — The man accused of burning a woman to death inside a New York City subway train used a shirt to fan the flames, causing her to become engulfed in fire, a prosecutor said Tuesday at his arraignment on murder charges that could put him in prison for life. Sebastian Zapeta, 33, who federal immigration officials said is a Guatemalan citizen who entered the U.S. illegally, was not required to enter a plea and did not speak at the hearing in Brooklyn criminal court. Zapeta, wearing a white jumpsuit over a weathered black hooded sweatshirt, will remain jailed and is due back in court on Friday. His lawyer did not ask for bail. Zapeta is charged with two counts of murder, accusing him of intentionally killing the woman and killing her while committing arson. He is also charged with one count of arson. The top charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez called the attack a “gruesome and senseless act of violence” and said it would be “met with the most serious consequences.” The apparently random attack occurred Sunday morning on an F train that was stopped at the Coney Island station. Police said Tuesday the victim's identification is still pending. Authorities say Zapeta approached the woman, who may have been sleeping in the train, and set her clothing on fire with a lighter. Zapeta then fanned the flames with a shirt, engulfing her in fire, Assistant District Attorney Ari Rottenberg said in court Tuesday. Zapeta then sat on a bench on the subway platform and watched, police said. According to Rottenberg, Zapeta told detectives that he didn’t know what happened but identified himself in images of the attack. Zapeta's lawyer, Ed Friedman, did not speak to reporters after the arraignment. Video on social media appears to show some people looking on from the platform and at least one police officer walking by while the woman is on fire inside the train. NYPD Transit Chief Joseph Gulotta said Sunday that several officers responded to the fire and one stayed to keep the crime scene “the way it’s supposed to be" while the others went to get fire extinguishers and transit workers. “Officers who were on patrol on an upper level of that station smelled and saw smoke and went to investigate. What they saw was a person standing inside the train car fully engulfed in flames,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. They eventually put the fire out, but “unfortunately, it was too late,” Tisch said, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Zapeta was taken into custody Sunday afternoon while riding a train on the same subway line after teenagers recognized him from images circulated by the police. A Brooklyn address for Zapeta released by police matches a shelter that provides housing and substance abuse support. The shelter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Federal immigration officials said Zapeta was deported in 2018 but later reentered the U.S. illegally. The crime deepened a growing sense of unease among some New Yorkers about the safety of the subway system, amplified by graphic video of the attack that ricocheted across social media. Overall, crime is down in the transit system compared to last year. Major felonies declined 6% between January and November compared to the same time period last year, according to data from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. But murders are up, with nine killings this year through November compared to five during the same period last year. Earlier this month, a Manhattan jury acquitted former Marine Daniel Penny in the chokehold death last year of an agitated subway rider. The case became a flashpoint in debates over safety, homelessness and mental illness on the system. Policing the subway is difficult, given the vast network of trains moving between 472 stations. Each stop contains multiple entry points and, in many stations, multiple floors and platforms.

She officially returned to work last month when she joined William for the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington, London . Then earlier this month she met Qatar's Royal Family during a two-day state visit to the UK. Her heartfelt message was included in a letter handed out to every guest during the concert on December 6, before being shared as a video clip ahead of the Christmas Eve broadcast. It played as a voice over at the beginning of ITV's coverage this evening. Kate said: "Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year, it is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it's also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all. "It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life, that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness, so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about. "The Christmas story encourages us to consider the experiences and feelings of others. It also reflects our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy, as well as just how much we need each other in spite of our differences. Above all else, it encourages us to turn to love, not fear." Kate continued: "The love that we show ourselves and the love we show others. "Love that listens with empathy, love that is kind and understanding, love that is forgiving, and love that brings joy and hope. "It is love which is the greatest gift we can receive, not just at Christmas but every day of our lives." The service is featuring a narration by Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald - known for films Trainspotting and No Country for Old Men. It will also "feature three special community films which bring to life the stories of people and organisations who have inspired, counselled and comforted others in their times of need". Kensington Palace said: "In each of the films, the groups are seen receiving letters from the princess inviting them to attend – and in the case of the Sankofa Songsters sing at – the service at Westminster Abbey." The films will showcase the Worcestershire Gingerbread Group, Go Beyond and intergenerational choir the Sankofa Songsters. The first highlights a single mum based in Worcestershire, who set up the group to tackle loneliness. Go Beyond sees six young carers, aged between eight and 13, who "go above and beyond every day to show empathy and support to their families". Sankofa Songsters features an intergenerational choir which brings together care home residents and their young friends. Kensington Palace said the choir has "enhanced the lives of everyone, strengthening relationships between all ages by spreading kindness and love, with members aged from two to 100". HELPING HAND Kate reached out to grieving Lady Gabriella Windsor, 43 - daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent - for help in planning the concert. The princess made contact over the summer after Lady Gabriella's husband Thomas Kingston, 45, died in February. She went on to play a major role in putting on the service. One of Lady Gabriella’s personal touches was helping to engage youth charity Restore the Music, who played to guests as they queued to enter the service. Polly Moore, CEO of Restore the Music, said: "Lady Gabriella is incredibly passionate about music and helping young people find their voice. "She has been an ambassador for us for the past five years and often attends our events. When she messaged to ask if I would be interested I said, 'Are you kidding, of course!' Every year brings its fair share of shows that are dead-on-arrival, and I’m sharing my least favourite shows of 2024. What’s worse, though, is when a favourite show veers off course – I have also shared some shows I’ve loved that just haven’t stuck the landing this year. Orphan Black: Echoes This futuristic show set in the same universe as the hit Canadian sci-fi Orphan Black is a pale imitation of a beloved property. Everything about this show just doesn’t stick the landing, and it was rightfully cancelled in September 2024 after just once season. Krysten Ritter is a fantastic actress, but couldn’t save this one. Perhaps if they hadn’t tied themselves to Tatiana Maslany show Orphan Black, this could have differentiated itself. As it stands, it’s not even a fair comparison. The Regime The Regime was a rare HBO MAX miniseries that failed to meet expectations. It both failed as a satire and a political drama, much to the dismay of audiences. Kate Winslet is fantastic as usual – she earned a Golden Globe nomination recently for the turn – and the supporting cast includes stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Matha Plimpton, Hugh Grant and Andrea Riseborough. It unfortunately just didn’t connect, and the story of a crumbling authoritarian government didn’t have the strength to set itself apart. The Acolyte A show that began in a promising fashion soon became a farce too boring for regular audiences and alienated Star Wars faithful. It was one of the most derided shows of the year, and was cancelled quickly. While some of the risks the show took were appreciated by critics, the show’s quality continued to drop through its run. The cast, however, was fantastic. Amanda Stenberg, Lee June-jae, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss and Manny Jacinto are all capable actors, even if the material let them down. This wasn’t so much a terrible show as one that definitely didn’t meet lofty expectations. Grey’s Anatomy Someone please – for the love of God – pull the plug on this show. I could not be more bored with the revolving door of doctors who have come and gone over 20 years, and the deaths and departures are no longer shocking. It’s been a good decade since this show was good, and while it had some great glory days, it’s time for it to be put out to pasture. They’ve run out of ideas, and it’s clear to see. Fraser I love Kelsey Grammar, but his schtick as the curmudgeon, smart-aleck Dr. Crane has worn thin. In fact, it was pretty much a wash when the original Fraser ended in 2024. Now – two decades later – we have to watch this self-absorbed character continue to alienate people in his life under the “hilarious” guise of being quirky. This second season following Fraser as he tries to develop a better relationship with his son is just as insufferable as the first. The Bear Oh, how the mighty have fallen. It racked up another four Golden Globe nominations, but the third season of this show was slow, poorly paced, and altogether messy. The acting – especially from star Jeremy Allen White – was superb. Kudos also to supporting turns from Ayo Edebiri, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, but save for a smattering of episodes with really cool guest stars, this was a bust. With a ton of filler episodes, less immediacy to the proceedings and an overall huge drop in quality, this is the most disappointing season of television I saw this year. I can only hope The Bear returns to the glory it’s achieved before with season four. About The Author: Jordan Parker is a freelance journalist and runs entertainment firm Parker PR.
