It would appear that Bill Belichick is heading to the college game after all. The legendary head coach is reportedly filling the vacancy at North Carolina, per multiple reports, after rumors had linked him to the Tar Heels for the past week. According to Ralph D. Russo of The Athletic, the deal is for three years and worth $30 million. And that had fans and pundits alike at the NFL and college levels fairly stunned: There are countless questions about the fit between Belichick and North Carolina. How will a coach who worked in the NFL for parts of five decades adjust to the college game or the demands of recruiting? Will his coaching methods translate with kids in the same way they did with professionals? Will North Carolina be able to compete with other major football programs on the NIL front, given the resources that go to the men's basketball team? There's no doubt that he's a major splash as a hire, and his name-brand appeal and the pedigree of being a six-time champion as an NFL head coach should aid in recruiting. More than likely, he'll delegate many of the recruiting obligations to his staff, instead focusing on program-building and Xs and Os. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show earlier in the week, he laid out his vision for leading a college program. "If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL," he said. "It would be a professional program—training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would transfer to the NFL." Belichick now becomes the most intriguing and high-profile college coach outside of Deion Sanders. While it's unlikely he'll turn North Carolina's sideline into a celebrity sighting bonanza like Colorado, the Tar Heels are now a team to watch going forward, if only to see if Belichick can come anywhere close to replicating his NFL success.

Trudeau flew to Florida Friday evening to attend a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump’s transition team is based. The in-person meeting came at the end of a rocky week in which Trump threatened to impose stiff tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, unless the two countries stop illegal border crossings and prevent illicit drugs from entering the U.S. In a post on Truth Social, Trump says he and Trudeau discussed the drug crisis, particularly fentanyl, illegal immigration, as well as trade, energy and the Arctic. Trump’s post did not directly mention tariffs. Trudeau told reporters in West Palm Beach Saturday morning that he had an excellent conversation with Trump’s transition team.
In another at-times ugly, grind-it-out game, the Minnesota Vikings once again found a way to come out on top, beating the Chicago Bears 30-27 in overtime on Sunday at Soldier Field. Ex-Missouri defensive end Williams Nwaneri committed to the Huskers on Thursday afternoon after entering the portal earlier that morning. He has four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting his first college season — he appeared in four games and logged 38 defensive snaps and two tackles this fall. The 6-foot-7, 255-pounder from the Kansas City area held offers from most top schools in college football as the nation’s No. 1 edge rusher in the 2024 class. Nebraska’s connection begins with senior football assistant Jamar Mozee, who was Nwaneri’s high school coach at Lee’s Summit North. Mozee convinced the teenager to play football as a freshman and his stock soared soon after while playing for one of the area’s top programs. Nwaneri as a prep senior logged 50 tackles (13 for loss) in 11 games with 23 quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles. Mozee — who once went through the recruiting process as a K.C. high-school star running back and was part of Oklahoma’s 2000 national-title team — served as one of Nwaneri’s central advisors during his recruitment. Georgia and Oklahoma were the prospect’s other finalists then. Being close to home and an extensive family of supporters was key in his evaluation. “I feel like he wasn’t biased in any way,” Nwaneri said of Mozee a year ago when he signed with Missouri. “He was coming from a place of caring about me. I thank him a lot.” Mozee celebrated with Nwaneri at the time before leaving to join UCF in February 2024 as an off-field staffer. Nebraska coach Matt Rhule hired Mozee in July. At Nwaneri’s signing ceremony last year, Mozee said the player had “pro talent” he flashed daily. “You’ve got to be careful to say that as a high school coach but there’s just not many kids like him, just being honest,” Mozee said. “Physically, the way he’s made, the way he’s built. He’s different than everybody I’ve ever seen.” Nwaneri also played multiple seasons at Lee’s Summit North with incoming Nebraska receiver Isaiah Mozee, Jamar’s son. The younger Mozee has said he leaned on Nwaneri at times during his own recruiting process that included navigating 40-plus offers. Nwaneri drew national headlines as a prep senior when the state of Missouri passed a law allowing high schoolers to earn name-image-likeness benefits once they’ve signed with a school. The legislation applies only to Missouri residents. Rhule this month praised Nebraska’s formidable financial resources made available through its 1890 collective and what’s coming with revenue sharing. It allows the Huskers to be competitive with anyone for any player, he said.
