Chetus Jetus. A name that rings true in my heart and soul, and one that I was completely unware would change the course of history for me. After creating my character in Final Fantasy XIV and logging on for the first time, I had to think of a name. Something creative, memorable, and most importantly; funny. Little did I know that little Chetus Jetus would help me understand a completely unfamiliar realm of the online world, and would become a piece of my psyche. A Tiny Little Guy With the Heart and Soul of a Gremlin Before finally embarking into the world of Final Fanasty XIV , I was told by countless coworkers how good it was. I was hit with the copypasta more times than I would like to admit, but never gave it the proper time of day. I never understood the hype behind MMOs. A game where you run around and collect soil for quests? It didn’t sound appealing to me in the slightest. That’s why I was surprised after creating my little Dunesfolk Lalafel in FFXIV that I was almost immediately hooked. Videos by VICE Before this, my main muse for online gaming was Maplestory . Yes, the game that we all played when we were around 14 years old because the chibi art style was extremely appealing. At least to me, anyway. Growing up in rural WIsconsin, we didn’t have a great internet connection, and I never had a proper gaming rig until I finally built one for myself during the COVID pandemic. Even then, I still couldn’t bring myself to download an MMO. I always had a particular image in my brain of people that played them. An image that also recently rocked my world after watching The Remarkable Life of Ibelin on Netflix, as well. But once I finally did download it, I learned that I was quite wrong. Final Fantasy XIV offers a community to a number of different folks. And I think it was after logging in on Christmas Day to see people celebrating with one another and having the time of their lives with strangers that they’ve likely never met that I realized how important a game like this is. And how important Chetus Jetus is to me. Chetus Jetus Is Apparently My Second Life at This Point When I first started playing, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with Chetus Jetus. I didn’t know if I was going to be drawn in back in 2023 when I first strapped on my boots and headed into the lands of Ul’ Dah for the first time. While his hairstyle may have changed multiple times since his inception, originally rocking the massive pompadour for good measure and the ultimate hilarity level, I’ve settled on this hair for quite some time. Joining up with a Free Company also showed me nice of a community these games have. It’s a group of people looking out for each other. Ready to help with a raid or a dungeon at the drop of a hat. Willing to give up some of their hard earned spoils from battle for those that may need a specific item. And ready to just hang out during a boring night. To me, at least, it feels like the opposite of most social media websites at the moment. Rather than losing their mind at the smallest thing, people are... kind to one another? If someone is watching a cutscene, rather than rushing them through or cussing them out, most players will just wait for it to be done so new players can experience the story as it’s meant to be? It’s a weird vibe, but honestly? I love it. ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ is Also a Great Way To Spend Time With Friends I finally got convinced to give Final Fantasy XIV a try by someone that lives halfway across the world from me. One of my best friends loves the game and has spent hours carefully creating the character of his dreams. And so, that was the final nail in the coffin for me before finally trying this one out. And after conquiring dungeons, raids and everything in between, I finally understand it. It’s more than a game; it’s a second life in a digital world. I think the reality of the situation finally hit when I caught myself browsing through Etsy to try and find someone who could Resin Print me a small Chetus Jetus for my desk. I had never thought of doing that with any other character before, but after spending nearly if not over 300 hours with him, I guess he’s part of the family now. And it’s a great feeling, because I’ve finally come to understand why people love this game and what it has to offer. So, as I page through the digital scrapbook of images that I’ve collected of Chetus Jetus and his growth, I’ve come to a realization. Final Fantasy XIV is much more than a game to a lot of people, and I finally get it.Liverpool head coach Arne Slot continued to play down the significance of their place at the top of the Premier League despite it being strengthened by their 3-1 win over Leicester. Chelsea’s surprise defeat by Fulham meant victory over the Foxes stretched their lead to seven points, with a match in hand, with the halfway point of the campaign fast approaching. But Slot is maintaining his level-headed approach despite the clamour growing around their chances of adding another title to the one won in 2020. Tonight's goalscorers 💪 pic.twitter.com/xn9sfZbVow — Liverpool FC (@LFC) December 26, 2024 “If you are in this game for a long time like the players and I am then 20 games before the end you don’t look at it as there are so many challenges ahead of you,” he said after Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah scored to turn around an early deficit following Jordan Ayew’s strike. “Injuries and and a bit of bad luck can happen to any team, it is far too early to be already celebrating – but it is nice for us to be where we are. “I don’t think there was any easy win for us in any of these games; it could have been an easy win against Tottenham but we conceded two and it was then 5-2 – that tells you how difficult it is to win even when you have all your players available. “That is why we have to take it one game at a time. The league table is something of course we are aware of but we always understand how many games there are to go.” Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy felt his side held their own until Salah scored in the 82nd minute. “I think we were in the contest for a result for a long time,” he said. “Three-one was the turning point in the sense the game was done there to get a result. “I think the 60th minute I remember a chanced for Daka to score the equaliser so we were in the game to get a surprising result. “We did well, we did what we could: a good start with the goal but if you speak of a turning point, 3-1 with Salah, the game was done.” Van Nistelrooy left goalkeeper Danny Ward out of the squad after he struggled in the defeat to Wolves and was jeered by his own fans. “The change in goal was one to make and the conversation with Wardy was impressive, the way he was thinking of the team and the club,” added the Dutchman. “I insisted on a conversation and of course it is a private conversation but what I want to share is the person and the professional he is. “I was impressed with that and his willingness for the team and the club to do well. “Really tough what happened for him. We are professionals but human beings as well, when frustration is being directed towards one person that is difficult.”

Edgewell Personal Care's chief supply chain officer sells stock for $165,266on Sunday shared a copy of a cease & desist notice sent to by her legal team, demanding a public apology from The 1975 singer, as well as a request for a $1 million settlement. The letter comes after swirling tension between the two singers which began earlier this week when Healy reactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account. In response to Banks’ tweet saying Charli XCX “used to be soooo pretty,” Healy wrote that “All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro.” Banks responded to Healy’s insult by writing that he and his fiancée, model Gabbriette, “both look like you share needles,” to which Healy threatened to “fucking slap you so hard I’ll get a Guiness world record for the highest a rat some bitch calls a wig has ever flown.” Healy then apologized for the threats in a statement online and deactivated his account. Banks has a history of throwing insults on social media. Healy does as well, including many documented instances of racist comments. The cease & desist letter, and dated Saturday Dec. 7 from Wallace J. Collins III in New York City, notes that its demands are in response to Healy’s “threats of violence.” Collins confirmed to on Sunday that his office sent the letter to Healy on Saturday night. “Your attacks against my client’s professional reputation, your overt racial epithets and your most recent threats of physical violence against my client have been well-documented since you published them worldwide online,” Collins wrote, noting that Banks saved screenshots of the posts Healy has since deleted. He called Healy’s actions “wrongful, bad faith and malicious” and said they have “seriously damaged and will continue to damage my client.” The letter continues, “Your removal of the damaging attack posts and your acknowledgement that your reaction was inappropriate does not undo the damage, but rather constitutes evidence of an admission of guilt by you.” He went on to note that he had drafted a summons and complaint per Banks’ request, but that “I have usually found it beneficial for all parties to try to resolve such matters amicably without the need for court intervention.” The note ends with a demand that Healy immediately cease and desist from making any further or defamatory statements against Banks and that he make a prompt and public apology to her. He also demands compensation in the amount of $1 million for “full settlement of this matter.” reached out to reps for Healy and Banks for further comment on the matter. Too early to celebrate – Arne Slot keeps leaders Liverpool focused
The Samajwadi Party MLA, Rais Shaikh, has moved a private member bill, seeking penal provisions on the lines of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to stop defamation of eminent personalities. A bill moved by an individual elected representative is called a private member bill. The opposition uses it as a legal weapon to introduce reforms or press for certain demands. Shaikh, who represents the Bhiwandi East seat, has named the proposal as the Maharashtra Defamation of Revered Leaders and Iconic Figures (Prevention and Punishment) Bill, 2024. It aims to control the increasing incidents of defamation and objectionable comments against religious leaders, historical figures and national icons. The bill will be vetted before allowing the legislator to introduce it in the house. Outlining the objective behind the proposal, Shaikh said in the bill's draft that the idea is to curb the rising trend of whipping up sentiments by posting derogatory content against eminent personalities on social media. Such incidents have often led to public unrest, social tensions and violent protests in some cases, Shaikh added. He pointed out that the existing sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita are inadequate for punishing such offences hence a MCOCA-like law will help deter such miscreants.

More info The suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare ’s chief executive struggled with deputies and shouted on Tuesday while arriving for a court appearance in Pennsylvania, a day after he was arrested at a McDonald’s and charged with murder. Luigi Nicholas Mangione , 26, emerged from a patrol car, spun toward reporters and shouted something partly unintelligible, yelling “insult to the intelligence of the American people” while deputies pushed him inside. Prosecutors on Tuesday were beginning to take steps to take Mangione back to New York to face a murder charge while new details emerged about his life and how he was captured. The Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland family was charged with murder hours after he was arrested in the killing of Brian Thompson, who led the United States’ largest medical insurance company. Local defence lawyer Thomas Dickey, who is expected to represent Mangione, declined comment before the Tuesday hearing at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg. Mangione was likely motivated by his anger with what he called “parasitic” health insurance companies and a disdain for corporate greed, a law enforcement bulletin obtained by The Associated Press said. He wrote that the US has the most expensive health care system in the world and that profits of major corporations continue to rise while “our life expectancy” does not, according to the bulletin, based on a review of his hand-written notes and social media posts. Mangione remained jailed in Pennsylvania, where he was initially charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police. Manhattan prosecutors have obtained an arrest warrant, a step that could help expedite his extradition from Pennsylvania. Mangione called “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski a “political revolutionary” and may have found inspiration from the man who carried out a series of bombings while railing against modern society and technology, according to the police bulletin. Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania — about 230 miles (370km) west of New York City — after a McDonald’s customer recognised him and notified an employee, authorities said. Officers found him sitting at a back table, wearing a blue medical mask and looking at a laptop, according to a Pennsylvania police criminal complaint. He initially gave them a fake ID, but when an officer asked Mangione whether he had been to New York recently, he “became quiet and started to shake”, the complaint says. When he pulled his mask down at officers’ request, “we knew that was our guy,” Officer Tyler Frye said. Images of Mangione released on Tuesday by Pennsylvania State Police showed him pulling down his mask in the corner of the McDonald’s while holding what appeared to be hash browns and wearing a winter jacket and beanie. In another photo from a holding cell, he stood unsmiling with rumpled hair. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Mangione was carrying a gun like the one used to kill Mr Thompson and the same fake ID the gunman had used to check into a New York hostel, along with a passport and other fraudulent IDs. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Mangione also had a three-page, handwritten document that shows “some ill will toward corporate America”. A law enforcement official who was not authorised to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity said the document included a line in which Mangione claimed to have acted alone. “To the Feds, I’ll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone,” the document said, according to the official . It also had a line that said: “I do apologise for any strife or traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming.” Pennsylvania prosecutor Peter Weeks said in court that Mangione was found with a passport and 10,000 dollars (£7,839) in cash, 2,000 dollars of it in foreign currency. Mangione disputed the amount. Mr Thompson, 50, was killed on Wednesday as he walked alone to a Manhattan hotel for an investor conference. Police quickly came to see the shooting as a targeted attack by a gunman who appeared to wait for Mr Thompson, came up behind him and fired a 9mm pistol. Investigators have said “delay,” “deny” and “depose” were written on ammunition found near Mr Thompson’s body. The words mimic “delay, deny, defend,” a phrase used to criticise the insurance industry. From surveillance video, New York investigators determined the gunman quickly fled fled the city, likely by bus. A grandson of a wealthy, self-made real estate developer and philanthropist, Mangione is a cousin of a current Maryland state legislator. After his elite Baltimore prep school, he went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science in 2020 from the University of Pennsylvania, a spokesperson said. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” Mangione’s family said in a statement posted on social media late Monday by his cousin, Nino Mangione. “We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved.” From January to June 2022, Luigi Mangione lived at Surfbreak, a “co-living” space at the edge of Waikiki in Honolulu. Like other residents of the shared penthouse catering to remote workers, Mangione underwent a background check, said Josiah Ryan, a spokesperson for owner and founder RJ Martin. “Luigi was just widely considered to be a great guy. There were no complaints,” Mr Ryan said. “There was no sign that might point to these alleged crimes they’re saying he committed.” At Surfbreak, Mr Martin learned Mangione had severe back pain from childhood that interfered with many aspects of his life, from surfing to romance, Ryan said. “He went surfing with RJ once but it didn’t work out because of his back,” Mr Ryan said, but noted that Mangione and Mr Martin often went together to a rock-climbing gym. Mangione left Surfbreak to get surgery on the mainland, Mr Ryan said, then later returned to Honolulu and rented an apartment. Mr Martin stopped hearing from Mangione six months to a year ago. Eagles place veteran on IR and claim edge rusher off waivers whom they could have drafted in 2017Inflation is predicted to average 2.5% this year and 2.6% next year, according to forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility. The British Medical Association said the Government showed a “poor grasp” of unresolved issues from two years of industrial action, and the Royal College of Nursing called the pay recommendation “deeply offensive”. The National Education Union’s chief said teachers were “putting the Government on notice” that the proposed increase “won’t do”. The pay recommendations came after Chancellor Rachel Reeves called for every Government department to cut costs by 5%, as she started work on a sweeping multi-year spending review to be published in 2025. Independent pay review bodies will consider the proposals for pay rises for teachers, NHS workers and senior civil servants. The Department of Health said it viewed 2.8% as a “reasonable amount” to set aside, in its recommendations to the NHS Pay Review Body and the Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration Board remit groups. A 2.8% pay rise for teachers in 2025/26 would “maintain the competitiveness of teachers’ pay despite the challenging financial backdrop the Government is facing”, the Department for Education said. The Cabinet Office also suggested pay increases for senior civil servants should be kept to no more than 2.8%. Paul Johnson, director of the influential economics think tank the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), said it was “not a bad ballpark figure” and feels “just about affordable” given the Government’s public spending plans. The downside, he said, is that public sector workers have lost out since 2010 and unions will be upset that this is not making up the gap, he told Sky News’ Politics Hub with Sophy Ridge. “But given the constraints facing the Chancellor I think it’s pretty hard to argue for more for public sector pay when public sector services ... are under real strain,” he said. Unions expressed their disappointment in the recommendations, with some hinting they could be willing to launch industrial action. The Royal College of Nursing general secretary and chief executive called for “open direct talks now” to avoid “further escalation to disputes and ballots”. Professor Nicola Ranger said: “The Government has today told nursing staff they are worth as little as £2 extra a day, less than the price of a coffee. “Nursing is in crisis – there are fewer joining and too many experienced professionals leaving. This is deeply offensive to nursing staff, detrimental to their patients and contradictory to hopes of rebuilding the NHS. “The public understands the value of nursing and they know that meaningful reform of the NHS requires addressing the crisis in nursing. “We pulled out of the Pay Review Body process, alongside other unions, because it is not the route to address the current crisis. “That has been demonstrated today. “Fair pay must be matched by structural reform. Let’s open direct talks now and avoid further escalation to disputes and ballots – I have said that directly to government today.” Professor Philip Banfield, chairman of the British Medical Association’s council, urged the sector’s pay review body to “show it is now truly independent”. “For this Government to give evidence to the doctors’ and dentists’ pay review body (DDRB) believing a 2.8% pay rise is enough, indicates a poor grasp of the unresolved issues from two years of industrial action,” he said. He said the proposal is far below the current rate of inflation and that the Government was “under no illusion” when doctors accepted pay offers in the summer that there was a “very real risk of further industrial action” if “pay erosion” was not addressed in future pay rounds. “This sub-inflationary suggestion from the current Government serves as a test to the DDRB. “The BMA expects it to take this opportunity to show it is now truly independent, to take an objective view of the evidence it receives from all parties, not just the Government, and to make an offer that reflects the value of doctors’ skills and expertise in a global market, and that moves them visibly further along the path to full pay restoration.” The NEU’s general secretary, Daniel Kebede, said teachers’ pay had been cut by more than one-fifth in real terms since 2010. “Along with sky-high workload, the pay cuts have resulted in a devastating recruitment and retention crisis. Teacher shortages across the school system hit pupils and parents too. “A 2.8% increase is likely to be below inflation and behind wage increases in the wider economy. This will only deepen the crisis in education.” In a hint that there could be a return to industrial action he added: “NEU members fought to win the pay increases of 2023 and 2024. “We are putting the Government on notice. Our members care deeply about education and feel the depth of the crisis. This won’t do.” The offer for teachers is the “exact opposite of fixing the foundations” and will result in bigger class sizes and more cuts to the curriculum, Pepe Di’Iasio, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said: “The inadequacy of the proposed pay award is compounded by the Government’s intention that schools should foot the bill out of their existing allocations. “Given that per-pupil funding will increase on average by less than 1% next year, and the Government’s proposal is for an unfunded 2.8% pay award, it is obvious that this is in fact an announcement of further school cuts.” Paul Whiteman, general secretary at school leaders’ union NAHT, said: This recommendation falls far short of what is needed to restore the competitiveness of the teaching profession, to enable it to retain experienced professionals and attract new talent. Unison head of health Helga Pile said: “The Government has inherited a financial mess from its predecessors, but this is not what NHS workers wanted to hear. “Staff are crucial in turning around the fortunes of the NHS. Improving performance is a key Government pledge, but the pay rise proposed is barely above the cost of living.”
