There is always a team shopping and hanging out in the trade market. In the NBA, that team is the Los Angeles Lakers (10-7). The Lakers are always a team that looks to improve their roster with the possibility of trading for a superstar or a key role player. This year is no exception based on how NBA trade rumors they are consistently in. They are reportedly shopping around the expiring contracts of point guard D’Angelo Russell and guard Jalen Hood-Schinfino to another team between now and February between the NBA Trade Deadline ends. Lakers may want to move on from Russell Russell’s second stint with the Lakers has been a roller coaster with the ride set to reach a disappointing conclusion. He came on after the Lakers decided to move on from their previous failed experiment at point guard in Russell Westbrook before the trade deadline in the 2022-2023 season. In the 17 regular season games played after traded to the Lakers, Russell was a high-volume and efficient shooter. Last season, Russell had good performances, but was terrible defensively and often played with poor effort. He was given coaching by first-year J.J. Redick and was called out publicly for lack of full effort. He is also having his worst season with the Lakers since re-joining the team. Russell is averaging 11.5 points shooting a field-goal percentage of 38.2% and a three-point shooting percentage of 28.1%. He is in the last year of a two-year; $36 million contract. What moves could the Lakers make? Russell will be a good pitch to a team that needs a tenacious shooter needing a new environment and an expiring. Russell would likely be paired with Hood-Schifino. He is in the final year of his contract after the Lakers declined his $4.06 million option for next season. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, and has only played one game this season. The biggest is who would the Lakers be interested in? The team has been in the rumor mills of a potential trade with the Atlanta Hawks for young star point guard Trae Young for the longest time. Young has been rumored to go to the Lakers to play with LeBron James for so long that it feels forced. The Lakers have tried different times to get James the perfect point guard, but have failed because he is the point forward. Other potential moves could be with the Chicago Bulls for either guard Zach LaVine or center Nikola Vucevic. LaVine would be a great off-ball fast player to match with James. Vucevic, on the other hand, would Anthony Davis happy as Davis would rather play the power forward position than at center. These two teams have been at the discussion the most with the Lakers as it could finally happen this season. This article first appeared on NBA Analysis Network and was syndicated with permission.
