India’s demolition of Australia in Perth was no outlier, but simply an extreme example of the dominance the subcontinental giants have enjoyed down under for seven years. The Indians have won three of their past four Tests in Australia, drawing the other. Further, they have only lost two of their past nine on these shores, winning five and drawing two. Going back to the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, when India won in Australia for the first time, the touring batters have comfortably had their hosts covered, averaging 31.31 against just 25. Logically, it’s similar dominance on the bowling front – India’s attack averaging 26.01 to Australia’s 33.27. Virat Kohli celebrates reaching his century – just one area that highlights India’s dominance. Picture: Getty Remarkably, they’ve scored eight centuries across those nine games, to just two from the Australians – one to each of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in the 2020/21 series. Unsurprisingly, Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout bowler in that period, taking 40 wickets at 18.80. Pat Cummins is the next highest wicket-taker with 38, but with an average of 25.34. Among bowlers with more than 10 wickets in Australia in Border-Gavaskar Test since India began its winning run, Ravindra Jadeja boasts the next best average – 21.78. The fact Jadeja didn’t even play in Perth epitomises one of Australia’s biggest worries heading into the second Test. Ravindra Jadeja (L) talks with India head coach Gautam Gambhir. Picture: Getty India won in Perth by 295 runs and that was without either of Rohit Sharma or Shubman Gill. Sharma was back home for the birth of his second child, but was in the nets in Perth on Monday, while Gill is expected to return for the second Test. They’re two instant upgrades on rookie duo Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel. All-time greats Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will also be pushing for selection after a so-so game from Washington Sundar (4 and 29, 0-1 and 2-48). “I think there will be two changes for sure, both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill coming back into the 11,” Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar told Channel 7. “My feeling is that the batting order will change – where Rohit Sharma will replace Rahul, Shubman Gill will bat at three, Padikkal and Jurel will go out of the team, Rahul will bat at six. “One other change that could happen is that Jadeja comes in in place of Washington Sundar.” Stand-in captain Bumrah also hinted Mohammed Shami could be back in time for the Adelaide Test. If fit, Shami will take India’s attack to the next level, forming a daunting pace triumvirate with Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Yes, it was that time again. Time for the great COP cop-out extravaganza as a bunch of talking heads get together for an elaborate greenie shindig that usually achieves absolutely nothing. If you or I were to put a foot wrong by saying something clumsy about ‘climate change’ or ‘global warming’ - we'd soon be branded “deniers” or wicked right-wing enviro-bigots. But, any layperson’s suspicions or eco-misdemeanors pale into insignificance compared with the wasteful, self-indulgent, virtue-signaling non-event that has come to epitomise COP gatherings. I will never forget the Cop26 meeting which took place in Glasgow in 2021. Freshly elected US president Joe Biden crossed the Atlantic to attend the G20 summit in Italy, closely followed by the Cop26 swaray in Glasgow. To attend these gatherings, the US presidential circus needed a fleet of no fewer than five enormous military cargo planes as well as the president’s own “oval office on wings” (Air Force One - Boeing 747). The whole job lot is said to have produced in excess of 2.2 million pounds of planet-shriveling carbon on a single trek across the pond. One aircraft was assigned specifically to carry special stairs for the president to board and disembark the mighty Air Force One because there was nothing available to marry up to such a gigantic aircraft at Edinburgh Airport. As a “security measure” the presidential fleet consisted of decoys as well as “in-service” C-17 Globemasters (huge military transportation aircraft) which ferried an 85 strong presidential motorcade as well as a number of helicopters, including Marine One. Amidst the road vehicles was the heavily armoured presidential Cadillac limousine known as 'The Beast'. Not just one, but two, as a spare ‘Beast’ also made the trip just in case there was a fault with the first. All that, just to bring an aging American president to the table. What did that achieve? Well, precisely nothing. And even if it did, Trump is about to go wild on fossil fuels. “Drill baby - drill” says America’s latterday JR Ewing. Back at the Ranch, we've all heard Keir Starmer’s endless rhetoric about Britain’s commitment to net-zero. Yet his party sent a 470 strong delegation to this year's Cop29 meeting in Azerbaijan. A 5000 mile round trip to attend another lavish, taxpayer-funded jolly. Sadly, it transpired to be little more than a fashionably left-wing virtue signaling fest, coming from a government representing a country that produces less than 1% of global greenhouse emissions. If every single Brit switched off every electrical appliance, extinguished every central heating boiler and binned all our cars - our sacrifice would barely be noticeable in the grand scheme of things. But, Labour have achieved one thing. They have left many people questioning the true priorities of a government that claims to be focused on “saving the planet” whilst they themselves leave a massive carbon footprint just to show us how “green” they actually aren't! The UK government delegation at Cop29 was far larger than that of any other European country. Official figures reveal that the UK sent a staggering 354 government officials and ministers to the summit along with an additional 116 representatives from Crown dependencies, overseas territories as well as private sector interests. This was all at the taxpayer’s expense, naturally. Among the attendees were Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Ed Miliband who leads Labour’s climate crusade. While Labour preaches austerity and levies ever higher taxes on ordinary families, its own ministers stay in luxury hotels where suites cost up to £800 a night. All this extravagance comes amid reports that COP meetings are increasingly regarded as no more than glorified talking shops. So much so that many of the most influential world leaders opted to skip the latest Cop29 event altogether. Let's be candid. Labour is a party that constantly lectures the public on the urgency of reducing emissions. The party has banned new UK oil and gas licenses, stopped steel manufacturing and is keen to roll out ULEZ expansions. Meanwhile, the environmental impact of Labour’s own Cop29 delegation is crazy. It's estimated that the British contingent racked up a staggering 2.3 million air miles, contributing at least 338 tons of CO2. Hardly the perfect portrayal of eco-friendliness? The general hypocrisy was blatant because, for starters, a whole squadron of private jets as well as a host of large commercial jets headed for Baku at the start of Cop29. This makes the whole COP thing a complete waste of time, a towering pile of nonsense for all to see. When it comes to ordinary citizens, Labour shows no mercy. Starmer’s pledge to slash emissions by 81% by 2035 sounds impressive, until we examine the details. What they reveal are much higher costs for homeowners facing forced upgrades to existing gas boilers. Even our diets are being scrutinised as we're told to cut back on meat consumption. UK taxpayers will also be funding Labour’s net zero projects abroad under Ed Miliband’s latest proposals. It wasn’t just the sheer scale of the British delegation that raised eyebrows at Cop29. UK representatives, including Keir Starmer’s own media team stayed in luxury suites at the Qafqaz Baku City Hotel where even standard rooms start at £400 a night. Some even splurged on caviar, costing up to £63 an ounce as our contingent of champagne socialists rubbed shoulders with Azerbaijan’s elites. A total of 66,778 delegates descended upon Baku this year, yet former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently declared that the whole COP process is “no longer fit for purpose.” When you think about it, was it ever wise to leave environmental issues in the hands of politicians? Let's be honest, when it comes to COP, how many different agendas could there possibly be in one place? Think about it. Some politicians believe they can use environmental issues to win votes by banging the fashionable climate drum. Others arrive at these summits from oil and gas rich countries, keen to sell as much of the stuff as possible. Not surprising, because many regions rely almost solely on their oil wealth to keep their dynasties living in luxurious palaces and enjoying multi-billionaire lifestyles. In all honesty, do politicians REALLY believe they can alter the climate simply because they decree that this world of ours ought somehow adhere to disingenuous policies dreamt up in places such as dusty Westminster backrooms? All I can say to that is - get real. Let's not mince words, our political leaders are taking the public for fools. At a time when families are struggling, the UK government's decision to send a bloated 470 strong delegation to a lavishly pointless climate summit reeks somewhat of arrogance. People deserve better than governments who constantly preach austerity and force tax hikes whilst they themselves put in the ritz at our expense. As the economy continues to wobble, it's ordinary families who bear the brunt of rising prices. It’s clear that some governments’ priorities lie not with the people they claim to represent, but with burnishing their own image on the global stage. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Any Texas or Texas A&M player has heard the lore of the rivalry between the two schools, a grudge match that dates to 1894. But for more than a decade — two generations of college football players — that's all it has been: Ghostly memories of great games and great plays made by heroes of the distant past. That changes this week when one of college football's great rivalries is reborn. Third-ranked Texas (10-1, 6-1) and No. 20 Texas A&M (8-3, 5-2) meet Saturday night for the first time since 2011, with a berth in the Southeastern Conference championship game on the line . “Guys that have been in my position and bleed burnt orange, they have not gotten to play this game,” said Texas fourth-year junior safety Michael Taaffe, who grew up in Austin. “Remember them when you step on Kyle Field.” For Aggies fans, who have carried the misery of Texas' 27-25 win in 2011, getting the Longhorns back in front of a frenzied crowd in College Station is a chance for some serious payback. “I was born and raised an Aggie, so I’ve been dreaming about playing in this game my whole life,” Texas A&M offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III said. Zuhn played high school football in Colorado, but his parents and grandparents attended A&M. At SEC media days back in August, Zuhn said his family would turn Texas gear upside down in stores. He keeps a picture of a longhorn in his room, hanging upside down, of course. “It should be the most amazing atmosphere that I’ve ever experienced,” Zuhn said. "I can’t wait for that, and I feel bad for Texas having to play in that." Texas players said they are ready. “That place is going to be rocking,” Texas senior cornerback Jahdae Barron said. “It's good to go on the road and play in hostile environments.” The Longhorns have overcome big and loud road crowds before. They won at Alabama in 2023. They won at Michigan and Arkansas, another old rival, this year. The Longhorns have won 10 in a row on an opponent’s home field. “When the hate is on us, we love it. We enjoy it,” Taaffe said. But some former Texas players say the current group has faced nothing like what awaits them in College Station. Playing at Texas A&M is more than just noise and a lot of “Horns down” hand signals. The “Aggie War Hymn” fight song calls for Aggies to “Saw varsity’s horns off." Beating Texas is their passion, said former Longhorns All-American offensive lineman Dan Neil, who won at Texas A&M in in 1995. He calls that win one of the best of his career. “I was done showering and getting ready to leave, and their fans were still standing outside the locker room screaming and throwing things,” he said. “The (Texas) players have no idea what they are walking into. They have no clue. No one on that team has walked into that stadium in burnt orange.” The rivalry broke up when Texas A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012. The Aggies have twice finished tied for second but have otherwise found little success there. Texas is in its first year in the SEC and has smashed its way to the top. Texas is the only SEC team with one loss this late in the season, which would make beating Texas that much sweeter for A&M. “The hype is definitely saying it's a rivalry. History says it's a rivalry, but for us, it's the football game we have this week,” Texas senior center Jake Majors said. “It's important for us to not let the environment, the game, get the best of us. ... I get to go out there and play not only for me and my team, but for the guys who came before me, so that's a true honor to have.” Even though the game hasn't been played since 2011, there has always been an element of the rivalry simmering under the surface, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said. Elko is in his first year as the Aggies' coach, but he was the Texas A&M defensive coordinator under Jimbo Fisher from 2018-2021. “Even though it hasn’t been played, it just doesn’t feel like it’s ever really left the fabric. I really don’t think it’s as removed from the psyche as maybe it feels,” Elko said. “I think our kids are very much aware of what this is all about.” Rieken reported from College Station, Texas.
