They’ve often said that Americans should take him seriously, but not literally. While it’s true President-elect Trump often engages in figurative rhetoric that’s best to ignore, we believe that Americans should take his plan for mass deportations both literally and seriously, given its prominence in his campaign. It’s real cause for concern. The “Mass Deportation Now” placards held by Trump supporters at his rallies were literally a sign of his intentions. Trump’s and Vice President J.D. Vance’s rhetorical attacks on Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were another — even though most of them are here legally and definitely were not eating pet cats and dogs. Then there’s this doozy. Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton posted the following on Truth Social: “GOOD NEWS: Reports are the incoming @RealDonaldTrump administration prepared to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the Biden invasion through a mass deportation program.” Trump responded to the post by writing “TRUE!!!” ABC News noted that Trump, at his Madison Square Garden rally at the end of his campaign, promised, “On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out.” That statement includes wiggle room given its focus on criminals — and it’s still unclear how he might deploy military assets toward that end. The military has long provided operational assistance to border authorities, according to CBS News. “(L)ongstanding federal law generally prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement,” it noted, but exemptions exist. CBS quoted incoming border czar Tom Homan suggesting a more limited military role with Trump adviser Stephen Miller saying they might deputize the National Guard. Even if the Trump team finds some legal justification, the proposal raises serious constitutional and practical concerns. We’re most concerned by the idea of declaring a national emergency. That tactic is rarely used in this country because it gives the federal government limitless powers to conduct raids and is distinctively un-American. There’s also talk of creating large detainment facilities. This would entail invoking the Insurrection Act, which allows the feds to deploy the military in the face of “unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion ... (that) make it impracticable by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings.” Presidents rarely use such martial law-like powers and only for targeted situations — not for nationwide operations. Anyone who believes that only criminal aliens have reason to fear such an approach are forgetting why our nation’s Founding Fathers included myriad checks and balances in the Constitution, were so concerned about due-process rights and so intent on limiting the unilateral power of the federal executive branch. American citizens — and non-criminal illegal immigrants — almost certainly will get caught up in any dragnets. Conservatives who were rightly appalled at unilateral COVID-19 restrictions on our liberties should also oppose this type of power grab. The Orange County Register remains proud of its opposition to the Japanese-American internment during World War II. This editorial board will likewise oppose any similar abuses now. It’s too early to know the details, but we take the threats literally and seriously.Fulks puts up 26, Milwaukee defeats IU Indianapolis 88-81NEW YORK — Stoli Group USA, the owner of the namesake vodka, has filed for bankruptcy as it struggled to contend with slowing demand for spirits, a major cyberattack that has snarled its operations and several years of fighting Russia in court. The company in its bankruptcy filing said it is “experiencing financial difficulties” and lists between $50 million and $100 million in liabilities. Stoli vodka and Kentucky Owl bourbon will continue to be available on store shelves while the company navigates the Chapter 11 process, which only pertains to its U.S. business. Until 2022, Stoli was sold as Stolichnaya in the United States, which loosely translates to “capital city” in Russian. The company shortened its title following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and boycotts against Russian-branded vodkas. Stoli Group’s founder, Russian-born billionaire Yuri Shefler, was exiled from that nation in 2000 because of his opposition to President Vladimir Putin. People are also reading... Dallas Cowboys star guard Zack Martin is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders due to ankle and shoulder injuries. Martin didn't practice at all this week. He also physically struggled during Monday night's loss to the Houston Texas. Martin, who turned 34 on Wednesday, has started all 162 games played in 11 seasons with the Cowboys. He's a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and a seven-time first-team All-Pro. Tight end Jake Ferguson (concussion) and safety Markquese Bell (shoulder) have been ruled out. Neither player practiced this week after being hurt against the Texans. Cornerback DaRon Bland (foot) practiced in full this week and will make his season debut. He was injured in August. Star wideout CeeDee Lamb (back/foot) was a full practice participant on Friday and is good to go. Cornerback Trevon Diggs (groin/knee) and receiver Brandin Cooks (knee) are among six players listed as questionable. The others are offensive tackle Chuma Edoga (toe), guard Tyler Smith (ankle/knee), defensive end Marshawn Kneeland (knee) and linebacker Nick Vigil (foot). --Field Level Media
The BC SPCA Kamloops animal centre has recovered several adult cats and kittens from a property, and is getting ready to receive between 15 and 25 more cats from the same property over the next few weeks. The animals were prioritized for recovery, with a female cat, her four kittens, and five other adults in the first intake. Sadly, two of the adult cats needed to be euthanized, while the kittens tested positive for coccidia and one of the adult cats tested positive for giardia. All the cats immediately went into quarantine and were treated. “This happens all too often when a kind person feeds a stray cat,” says Daria Evans, manager of the BC SPCA’s Kamloops animal centre. “In this case the finders began feeding stray cats in their community during the pandemic, and in no time at all the number of cats in their home more than doubled. “They became overwhelmed and reached out to us, and we are currently in the process of bringing all the cats into our care.” Evans adds that it’s likely that all of the cats in the home will require treatment, so the Kamloops centre is preparing for that. Coccidia and giardia are parasitic infections of the intestinal tract and are typically treated with oral medications and intravenous fluids if required. Although quite common and very treatable, they are both contagious. Once the cats clear quarantine, they will be placed with a BC SPCA foster carer or — if they are ready — made available for adoption. “Our goal is to bring all these babies into our care and treat them as soon as possible,” says Evans. “The kittens are very playful and sweet. They were a little grumpy when we gave them their coccidia baths, but that is to be expected. They now seem to be much happier and content.” The adult cats appear to be a mixture of indoor and outdoor animals. Staff at the centre have been pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the cats are around people, even though some may not have had as much human socialization as others. “They are very affectionate and love it when staff comes around to feed and care for them," says Evans. She notes that this case is a reminder that people should reach out if there are stray cats in their area, and the earlier the better. “It is amazing how quickly a cat population can explode.” The cats and kittens currently in care will be available for adoption later in December. MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Although Kevin De Bruyne's return to Manchester City's starting lineup was key to a 3-0 Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday that ended their winless run, manager Pep Guardiola warned that he needs to look after his midfielder. The oft-injured Belgian was brilliant in scoring one goal, helping set up another, and taking or creating most of City's shots in his first start in more than two months, guiding City to their first victory since late October. "We'll see how he recovers after a long time injured," Guardiola told reporters. "The reality is he played few games last season and this season." The gruelling December schedule compounds the concern, with City heading to Crystal Palace on Saturday. "Three days, three days - we'll see how does (De Bruyne) feel through this," Guardiola said. City's win lifted the champions to fourth in the league table, still nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool. It also ended the worst string of results in Guardiola's glittering managerial career -- seven consecutive games without a win, including six defeats. "We needed it," said Guardiola. "The club and the players, everyone needed to win. After what happened in the past we were not relaxed until the referee's whistle at the end." The victory might have come at a cost, however, as defender Nathan Ake was forced off late in the game holding his hamstring, an injury that saw him sidelined for five weeks earlier this season. "Nathan doesn't look good. We will see tomorrow," Guardiola said. "He could not continue and we will see in three days what will happen. I am sad for Nathan." An injury also kept Manuel Akanji out for the second half, although the manager said his is not as serious. "We'd love to have Manu and Nathan and two defensive midfielders. They are fantastic human beings and fantastic players," Guardiola said. Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo said City were definitely more dangerous with De Bruyne on the pitch. "It's very difficult (to stop De Bruyne), very difficult because of the quality," he said, "And it's not only Kevin de Bruyne, their quality all over the pitch, in the wide areas, it's very difficult to individually control these kind of players. "No one ever doubts the quality of City players and their manager, so we know that we had a hard task ahead of us. But honestly, we went for it. We lose, okay, that can happen in football, but we challenged ourselves and that can reflect on the next games I hope." (Reporting by Lori Ewing, editing by Ed Osmond)

Strengthened cash position: The Company maintained a cash balance of €2.2 million as of June 30, 2024, which was further enhanced by receipt of the second tranche of funding from YA II PN, Ltd. ("Yorkville") in September 2024 in the amount of €3.0 million. This funding reinforced the Company's financial stability and supported its operational growth. Six-Month 2024 Milestone Achievements Exiting insolvency: The Company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Sono Motors, successfully exited its self-administration proceedings in February 2024, marking what the Company believes is a crucial step towards the financial and operational stability of Sono. Additional funding: In H1 2024 Sono received funding commitments of up to €9 million, of which €4 million were received in February 2024 and €3 million in September 2024. Subject to compliance with the terms of the investment, the Company expects the commitments to position it to obtain sufficient funding for its business strategy and operations through June 2025. These innovative solutions are designed to help fleet operators reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and cut operational costs, showcasing Sono's commitment to sustainable and versatile solar applications across various vehicle types. Progress Toward Planned Nasdaq Uplisting: On November 7, 2024, at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders, key measures to advance Sono's planned uplisting to the Nasdaq Capital Market were approved. These included appointing Owen May to the Supervisory Board, approving amendments to the Articles of Association to meet Nasdaq requirements, and authorizing preferred shares intended to enable potential future conversion of debt into equity. Debt-to-Equity Conversion Term Sheet Signed: Sono has entered into a non-binding term sheet with Yorkville to convert approximately $32 million in outstanding debt into equity through the issuance of preferred shares. This initiative, pending the signing of definitive agreements, strengthens Sono's balance sheet, reduces default risk, and marks significant progress towards the Company's planned Nasdaq uplisting. Looking Ahead Managing Director, CEO and CFO George O'Leary said, "We believe our results demonstrate the resilience of our business model and the effectiveness of our strategic pivot to solar retrofit solutions. We see the €60.6 million profit and successful exit from insolvency mark as a key turning point for Sono, setting the stage for sustainable growth." In this interview for The Republic Ponce speaks candidly about his experiences in the world of acting, his love for music, and his most recent projects. From his work with ‘Dad in trouble’ until his participation in the soap opera ‘Poor boyfriend’ Nico continues to demonstrate his versatility as an actor. In the midst of his growing popularity, the actor continues to pay attention to what is happening in the industry, and that includes the competition strategies that television channels use to keep the audience captive. Recently, the premiere of ‘Poor Boyfriend’ coincided with that of the new América Televisión series, ‘Nina de Sugar’, which generated great expectations in the media. Here, Ponce offers his perspective on this competition between channels and how he handles the situation. Coincidence in both premieres Nico Ponce spoke about the coincidence of the premieres of ‘Poor Boyfriend’ and ‘sugar girl’ two series that air on the same day, creating great competition between the channels: Latina and América Televisión. For the actor, this situation is nothing new. “It’s the old trick, right?” Ponce said with a smile. “Competition strategies that are valid, but honestly, I don’t work thinking about competing. My focus is on giving my best in each project: soul, heart and life,” said the actor. ‘Nina de Azur’ and ‘Poor Boyfriend’: what it’s about, trailer, characters, and everything about the new soap operas from America TV and Latin America. Although the coincidence of the premieres generated great media attention, Ponce made it clear that he does not feel pressure from the competition. “My focus is on the work I do and on the character of Santiago, which is what really matters,” he added. For the actor, the important thing is to continue working with commitment and dedication in what he does, regardless of the tactics other channels use. Ponce also expressed his admiration for the work done by Latina, the channel that produces ‘Poor boyfriend ‘. “Latina is clear about her path and continues to follow a defined line, without deviating from what other channels do. That clarity is essential for success,” said the actor. In this way, he made it clear that he feels supported by the channel and his work team, which allows him to focus on his character without distractions. Nico Ponce’s opinion on the panels of “Pamela...you were unfaithful to me” A topic that generated a great stir at the time were the “Pamela... you were unfaithful” panels, used to promote the soap opera, in which a situation of infidelity is shown that has provoked multiple comparisons with media reality, especially after that many users linked it to the cases of Christian Cueva and Pamela Franco. Regarding this phenomenon, Ponce shared his opinion: “I thought it was spectacular that it went viral because the novel talks precisely about how social networks turn everything into something viral. It was fun to see that the unfaithful Pamela thing also went viral in real life. “I think fiction mixed with reality a little bit, and that’s great,” he said. The actor also highlighted how the soap opera reflects the impact of social networks and the immediate consumption of information today. “Latina is doing a great job with communication and support for its artists. That motivates me a lot to get involved and collaborate, because I know that there is support from the channel,” said Ponce, who feels supported by the production team. . The evolution of ‘Pobre Novio’ and the change in his career Nico Ponce He not only talked about the competition, but also about the technical evolution of ‘ poor boyfriend ‘. According to the actor, the series has an impressive level of quality, especially in the first chapters. “The technical quality is incredible. The first chapter has a very strong dramatic charge, full of emotions and twists that will surprise the audience,” he said. For Ponce, ‘Poor Boyfriend’ is a series that not only talks about love, but also about family, personal relationships and improvement, elements that make it attractive to a diverse audience. Furthermore, Ponce highlighted the differences between his character ‘Poor boyfriend ‘, Santiago, and the one he played in ‘ Dad in trouble ‘, Matías. According to him, while Matías was a stronger and more confrontational character, Santiago is calmer, tender and positive. “Santiago is a guy who is always there for his family and friends, and although he feels that what happens to him is to blame, he always works from the heart,” Ponce explained. Nico Ponce’s connection with his character Santiago García Nico Ponce reflected on the similarity between his character ‘Poor boyfriend ‘, Santiago, and himself. “I always try to put something of myself in my characters. Santiago is a simple, humble, familiar boy, who loves his mother very much and hates lies. I share those characteristics,” he commented. Throughout the series, Santiago faces complicated situations, but always acts from the heart, which Ponce finds close to his own personality. Furthermore, the actor acknowledged that, like him, his character is also sensitive: “I am very sensitive. I compose songs, I play guitar at dawn, and I have come to write albums inspired by my ex-partners. That sensitivity is something that I have also put into Santiago,” he explained. However, Ponce highlighted some differences. “I think I’m more extroverted than him and I’m more used to being in front of cameras. Santiago, on the other hand, is not like that, but the similarities between us are in sincerity and aversion to lies and double-faced people,” he added. Nico Ponce reveals his love for music Outside of acting, Nico Ponce He is passionate about music. Although his career is focused on acting, Ponce has composed songs and even written albums inspired by his personal experiences. “Music has always been with me. It is something that connects me with my emotions and allows me to express myself differently,” confessed the actor. Although music is an important part of his life, Ponce made it clear that his main focus remains acting. “I don’t see myself dedicating myself exclusively to music, but I would definitely like to compose for other artists or productions,” he said. The actor also said that his songs are usually romantic, inspired by love and the emotions he goes through. Her love life and her rejection of reality shows Regarding his love life, Ponce seemed relaxed and optimistic. “I don’t think I’m unlucky in love, I just think the right person hasn’t arrived yet,” he commented. For him, the most important thing is to focus on his own growth and being the best version of himself. “I once heard someone say something wise: become the person who deserves the person you seek.
