The billionaire hip-hop artist is now being accused of sexually assaulting and drugging a 13-year-old girl with Sean "Diddy" Combs at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000 — allegations Jay-Z vehemently denies. The rapper, born Shawn Carter, and his team called the amended lawsuit, filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee , a "blackmail attempt." According to a new court filing , Jay Z is asking that the woman accusing him of rape to be required to reveal her identity or for her lawsuit against him to be dismissed. In a statement , Jay-Z lamented that he and Beyoncé would need to explain the accusations to their three children . Amid the swirl of legal questions , Jay-Z and Beyoncé's relationship is now under an intense microscope, one that the famously private couple may have to now navigate publicly. In a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé said, "We were friends first for a year and a half before we went on any date, on the phone for a year and a half, and that foundation is so important in a relationship. Just to have someone that you just like is so important, and someone that is honest." (Bloomberg) — Donald Trump said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau committed to working to address the border and fentanyl smuggling, key issues that have led the incoming US president to threaten massive tariffs. Trump, in a Truth Social post on Saturday, called their dinner Friday night at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida a “very productive meeting” and made no mention of his earlier 25% tariff threat. “I made it very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic, caused mainly by the Drug Cartels, and Fentanyl pouring in from China,” he said. “Prime Minister Trudeau has made a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation of US Families.” The dinner included incoming Commerce Secretary and trade czar Howard Lutnick, incoming Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and incoming National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. Trudeau’s delegation included Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Chief of Staff Katie Telford. Trump has threatened tariffs on both Canada and Mexico while demanding action on the border. Trudeau, speaking briefly to press as he left his West Palm Beach hotel Saturday, called it “an excellent conversation.” The dinner lasted roughly three hours, with discussion of trade, border security, fentanyl, Ukraine, NATO, Arctic icebreakers, China, pipeline projects and the Middle East, officials with knowledge of the meeting said. They described the meeting as positive. Trump gave no specific indication at the dinner of whether he’d proceed with his tariff plans, one official said. At one point, Trump began choosing a playlist, offering two versions of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah — a nod to the Canadian delegation — and playing other songs that were common at his rallies. Trump and Trudeau ate steak and mashed potatoes, while other menu options included meatloaf from a recipe by Mary Trump, the president-elect’s late mother. An online debate over foreign workers in tech shows tensions in Trump’s political coalitionSTARTING GRID | YOUR GUIDE TO THE WEEK ON THE NASCAR CIRCUIT It seems everyone except champion Joey Logano is eager to see to a change to the NASCAR playoff format. How to fix it remains up for debate. Logano won his third Cup Series championship earlier this month, re-igniting the conversation about whether the current playoff format is the best way to determine a worthy champion. Logano wound up winning four races this season, but only had 13 top 10 finishes in 37 races and clearly didn't have one of the best cars over the course of the season. Logano, it seemed, did just enough to get by. He got his share of breaks, too, using what amounted to a Hail Mary win in Nashville — stretching his empty fuel tank through five overtimes — to qualify for the postseason. He was actually eliminated from playoff contention in the second round, only to be reinstated after a competitor's car was ruled to be illegal. Logano's run to the title has left some drivers wanting to see the system altered, with suggestions ranging from minor tweaks to major changes. "I think the message we are trying to send is: Make the regular season matter more," said Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 car for Joe Gibbs Racing and a co-owner of the 23XI Racing team. He suggested increasing the bonus points a driver gets during the regular season. "The (Christopher) Bells, (Kyle) Larsons, they deserve to have a really good buffer there to make it through the (playoff) rounds," Hamlin said. "We're in a sport where you can get caught up in so many wrecks and different things that can happen. ... There are 26 (regular season) races and they are proving to be not that substantial to winning a championship and that's not something you want." Hamlin suggested that over the past three years the Team Penske champions — Logano twice and Ryan Blaney once — "didn't have to do much" during the regular season. "And that's probably not good," Hamlin added. NASCAR likes the current playoff system because of the emphasis it places on each race heading down the final stretch of the season in its never-ending quest for Game 7 moments. Stock car racing's governing body remains open to tweaking the format — if it improves the sport. "I love that aspect of it," Bell said of the emphasis on the playoff races, "but maybe adjusting the points systems to make sure we get the right cars into the championship event would be awesome." Blaney said it's up to drivers to adapt the rules in place. But he said in his "ideal world" he'd like to see the top 16 drivers on points in the regular season qualify for the playoffs. He said race winners should get 10 or 15 points instead of five, and that the regular-season champion should get an additional 30 points. Blaney's final suggestion involves fewer elimination races. He suggested the 16-car field should be cut to eight after five playoff races, with the remaining eight drivers competing over the final five races for the championship. "I would like to see a group of races to end the year where you are not going to have anyone run away with it and you're going to have three to five races and you're still going to have some really good competition going on," Blaney said. Logano just shakes his head and offers a sarcastic smile at all the tweak talk. He was emphatic about the system not needing to be changed after his clinching win at Phoenix and didn't stray from that conviction at last Friday's annual awards ceremony in Charlotte. When asked if there are any changes that need to be made, Logano replied, "Nothing, personally. I wouldn't change a thing," adding that he thinks the format is "super entertaining." Of course, if you've won three championships since 2018, why would you want to change? "I think we all need to understand why we changed it in the first place, it's because the fans said they didn't like the way it was, so we changed it," Logano said. "And then everybody loved it. And it was great. And now, oh, we're going to complain about it again? C'mon, guys. Geez." Get local news delivered to your inbox!

Arizona (7-4) hosts CSU Bakersfield (0-8): Beh is back, buying in, Barnes' radio showEuropean countries suspend Syrian asylum decisions after Assad's fallCrypto entrepreneur Justin Sun on Friday fulfilled a promise he made after spending $6.2 million on an artwork featuring a banana duct-taped to a wall - by eating the fruit. At one of Hong Kong’s priciest hotels, Sun chomped down on a banana in front of dozens of journalists and influencers after giving a speech hailing the work as “iconic” and drew parallels between conceptual art and cryptocurrency. “It’s much better than other bananas,” Sun said after getting his first taste. “It’s really quite good.” Titled “Comedian”, the conceptual work created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in New York last week, with Sun among seven bidders. Sun said he felt “disbelief” in the first 10 seconds after he won the bid, before realizing “this could become something big”. In the 10 seconds after that, he decided he would eat the banana. “Eating it at a press conference can also become a part of the artwork’s history,” he said Friday. The debut of the edible creation at the 2019 Art Basel show in Miami Beach sparked controversy and raised questions about whether it should be considered art - Cattelan’s stated aim. And Sun on Friday compared conceptual art like “Comedian” to NFT art and decentralized blockchain technology. “Most of its objects and ideas exist as (intellectual property) and on the internet, as opposed to something physical,” he said. ‘Apolitical’ investment Sun this week also became an advisor to World Liberty Financial, a crypto initiative backed by US president-elect Donald Trump, following a $30 million investment. He earlier wrote on social media platform X that he was “excited to help make crypto great again in the US” with Trump’s leadership. On Friday Sun denied that the investment - which made him the largest investor in the project - was an attempt to influence Trump or American politics. “We are apolitical,” Sun told AFP in an interview. “Me (serving) as advisor also contribute a lot of value... I can be a great bridge for traditional financial and the (decentralized finance) industry.” The 34-year-old crypto businessman was last year charged by the US Securities and Exchange Commission with fraud and securities law violation in relation to his crypto project Tron. Sun has rejected the allegations and the case is ongoing. At a function room at the Peninsula hotel in Hong Kong, two men dressed as auction house staff stood in front of a featureless wall with the yellow banana offering the only splash of color. Sun said he only recently decided to bid for the artwork, adding he had “dumb questions” such as whether the banana had decayed and how to value the work. The artwork owner is given a certificate of authenticity that the work was created by Cattelan as well as instructions about how to replace the fruit when it goes bad. Sun told AFP that his artwork may well benefit from the same kind of speculative craze usually associated with crypto. “I think (the price) probably is going to go up even more in the future, just like Bitcoin,” he said. — AFP

After the postponement of their Boxing Day League Two clash against Accrington Stanley, Tranmere Rovers welcome Barrow to Prenton Park for their matchday 24 encounter. Thursday's fixture was called off due to foggy weather over Merseyside, with the match scheduled for 3pm but cancelled about an hour before kickoff. Tranmere's last league outing was a 3-1 away loss to Doncaster Rovers on gameweek 22, leaving them 19th in the standings with 21 points from 20 games, four points above the drop zone, though they have two games in hand over 23rd-placed Morecambe. In that match, Tom Davies was sent off as Doncaster took control with goals from Joseph Olowu , Patrick Kelly , and substitute Kyle Hurst , before Sol Solomon pulled one back for Nigel Adkins 's side with an 83rd-minute strike. That defeat was a setback for Rovers, especially after they had ended a five-game winless run the week before with a 2-1 victory over Harrogate at Prenton Park. Back on their ground this weekend and with fresh legs, Tranmere will aim to avoid another prolonged spell without a win, with their strong home record against Barrow – having won seven of the last eight meetings – offering encouragement. Tranmere's underwhelming performance in the first half of the season has been largely due to their struggles in the final third, with the Super White Army managing just 15 goals so far – the joint-fewest in the division – and averaging less than a goal per game in their home matches. Meanwhile, Barrow, buoyed by their recent successes against the hosts, winning the last two meetings between the sides, will be looking to put an end to their disastrous run on the road, having failed to win any of their last 10 away games across all competitions, including eight in the league. The Bluebirds, under former head coach Pete Wild , missed out on a playoff spot by just one point last term, failing to secure a win in any of their last seven games in the fourth tier, with their record on the road even worse, as they ended the campaign without victory in their final 10 trips. The departure of Wild at the end of the season by mutual consent ushered in the arrival of current boss Stephen Clemence , and while Barrow have managed to break that winless streak in this campaign with back-to-back victories against Harrogate and Grimsby Town, they have not tasted an away triumph in the competition in over three months. Their two wins, two draws, and seven defeats in 11 away matches have left them with the second-worst away record in the division, ahead of only Sunday's opponents. The Bluebirds head into the weekend encounter on the back of a humbling 3-0 defeat to Salford on Boxing Day, leaving them in 17th place with 26 points from 21 matches, eight points adrift of the playoff spots. While a win could revive hopes of surpassing last season's position, their meagre five goals on the road – the lowest away tally in the league – offers little cause for optimism. Tranmere will be without Davies for the match, as he serves a suspension following his red card against Doncaster. With the 32-year-old defender sidelined, Declan Drysdale will likely step into the starting lineup, partnering Lee O'Connor , Jordan Turnbull and 28-year-old Connor Wood in the back four, while Luke McGee will continue in goal. In terms of injuries, Tranmere are still missing midfielders Brad Walker , Regan Hendry and Saidou Khan , who remain unavailable, while 31-year-old forward Luke Norris will miss his seventh consecutive game. Barrow's Sam Foley , back from a muscle injury sustained in early November, returned to the starting lineup in their last outing and is expected to retain his place this weekend. Emile Acquah , who has started Barrow's last three league matches, will aim to add to his three goals this season as he looks to continue his impact in attack. Tranmere Rovers possible starting lineup: McGee; O'Connor, Drysdale, Turnbull, Wood; Finley, Merrie; Dennis, Jennings, Patrick; Saunders Barrow possible starting lineup: Farman; Feely, Vassell, Stokes, Jackson; Foley, Gotts; Spence, Mahoney, Newby; Acquah Both sides have struggled this season, with their inefficiency in the final third hindering the prospect of a high-scoring encounter. Although the hosts have enjoyed more success in this fixture recently, their home record of just three wins from 10 games offers little assurance of securing all three points. Denis Humberto Navarette Romero, 31, was arrested and charged for the November 18 attack and rape of a woman he allegedly encountered on the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Trail in Herndon. The attack was termed a “stranger rape” because the attacker and the victim did not know each other. “We haven’t had a stranger rape in over 12 years that I’ve been here as chief,” Chief DeBoard said. “There should be full prosecution, so this never happens again.” The attack, though, should not come as a surprise. Authorities discovered that Romero has been linked to several sexual battery attacks on juveniles going back to 2017, they said after his arrest. There have been other charges as well. A flabbergasted DeBoard was shocked to find that the suspect had already been charged with two felonies, and yet he was still freely wandering around the United States. “He had two felonies from cases we had where we were called, dispatched to investigate a sexual battery, basically where he had grabbed a female,” Chief DeBoard said, “and when we went to investigate the case, we encountered the individual then and he assaulted two of my police officers. One he actually grabbed around the throat, tried to choke him. So he was charged with two assaults on a police officer, felonies.” DeBoard was asked if Navarette Romero was convicted for those felony assaults. “No, because a couple months later, that case was reduced to simple assault, misdemeanor. We weren’t asked to provide input on that,” she replied. “You know, my officers were victims in that case. We would hope that victims would be asked about their input on this, and we certainly wouldn’t have agreed to have that reduced to a misdemeanor.” The chief was also skeptical about deporting Navarette Romero after this latest arrest. “The problem with deporting him right now would be there is a strong chance that he could end up back in this country again,” she said. “The danger is, if he’s not held accountable for his crimes here, and he’s simply deported, we would have no way to keep him from coming back into the country.” How did all this happen? Because of the “sanctuary” policies of the law enforcement agencies he met previously. This latest incident of an illegal alien causing serious injury to an American caused Andrew R. Arthur, resident fellow in law and policy for the Center for Immigration Studies, to explain: Why are serious alien criminals who beg to be deported released into the community to reoffend? Because local – and federal – officials interpose themselves between those criminals and ICE in a misguided and senseless attempt to ‘protect’ the very victims who end up paying the price. The price for Joe Biden’s border crisis has been high, indeed. It seems as if not a month goes by when there isn’t a rape or murder perpetrated by a migrant who entered this country illegally. Victims abound across the nation. Young Jocelyn Nungaray, the 12-year-old girl from Houston, paid with her life . The same end befell 22-year-old Laken Riley in Georgia. Patty Morin of Baltimore also paid the ultimate price. And these are just some of the most famous cases. There are many others that have not become national news. There is also a long and growing list of other crimes occurring at the hands of Biden’s border crossers, including sexual assault , drug trafficking , robbery , child rape , and human trafficking , not to mention the criminal activities of dangerous gangs, including Tren de Aragua . All these cases add up into the tens of thousands and many of the perpetrators are repeat offenders who were in the U.S. justice system previously, but then simply let go right back into our population with no coordination or cooperation with ICE.
